A large dog can shed 70% of the water in its fur in four seconds. And did you realize furry animals tune the frequency of their shakes to be most efficient? They don’t needlessly waste energy.

Why do we humans hang on to past hurts and past disappointments? Why do we waste our energy on worrying about what happened yesterday or may happen in the future? Why do we continue to replay past events to agonize over them, or mentally rework them and find a solution to something we can’t change?

Let’s shake off the past by giving the past to our eternal God and moving forward into His amazing future. Let’s shake it off!

In the darkness, I whispered the name – Jesus — The Name of my Savior and rescuer.

I prayed for help, and the verses came, and the light shone on God’s truth. God’s Words wrapped around and lassoed those fears.

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” ~ Isaiah 46:4

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” ~ ~ Deuteronomy 31:8

Miralee serves as president of the Portland, Oregon, chapter of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and belongs to a number of writer’s groups. She speaks at women’s groups, libraries, and churches about her writing journey, and has taught a both writers and library conferences.

She and her husband, Allen, live on eleven acres in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge in southern Washington State, where they love to garden, play with their dogs, take walks, and go sailing.

There are days when I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. Those days are a struggle. I want an agenda. For God to say, “Lisa, today I want you to do this.”

The other morning my day started, and I felt the nudge to clean the kitchen floor. The thought struck me as odd since my floor wasn’t dirty. But the pressing continued. So I grabbed a wet rag and went to my knees.

With praise music playing in the background, I started cleaning. And during the project, I realized … oh my goodness … I was having the best time!

Celebrating Change

An incredibly powerful tool for purposeful living is the ability to celebrate and embrace change. “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2)

Our Lord, Our God, is constant, eternal, unchanging. He is the Alpha and Omega: omniscient, omnipotent and everlasting. “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17) 

The essence of this created world, however – with every creature, every flower, every leaf, every bird, every rock – is change. We see clearly that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) 

Life flows in a constant flux, so resistance to the flow of change inevitably causes conflict. Yielding to and flowing with change, however, leads to peace, hope and eager expectation for the future.

When we do not find our joy and peace in the unchanging God, it is easy for us to seek fulfillment through attachment: attachment to things, to people, to relationships, to circumstances. When changes threaten these temporal attachments, we begin to fear; we grow anxious, discouraged and sometimes angry. Yet God created the world in a state of change – with day and night, with summer and winter, with life and death. “My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.” (Psalm 102:11)

The constant movement of daylight and of seasons reflects this natural law and encourages us to embrace the flow of change. God – yes, only God – is the Source of true stability and solidity.

When we allow God to fill us, when we invite God to bring us hope, when we embrace His love, we need no attachments. We can proclaim confidently that “He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:6)  

In doing so, we embrace the changes God allows. We look forward with great anticipation the good things which will come. For we know that “He is the rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” (Deuteronomy 32:4)

Is there any area in your life in which you are not embracing change? Are you clinging to any attachments? As you travel upon your purposeful pathway, I encourage you to embrace the love of God and celebrate the flow of change. Discover firsthand the liberating paradox: by clinging firmly to the Eternal God and standing firmly on the Rock of Truth, you will flow freely and peacefully with the beautiful currents of time and change.

“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.” (2 Samuel 22:31)

How do you keep your heart in Heaven that you may freely embrace change here on earth?

Celebrate change – and having your heart in Heaven – with poetry:

 My heart is in heaven,

 In treasures I have yet to see,

Yes, my heart is in heaven,

 My eyes fixed on eternity.

 My feet are ever moving

 In the direction of Jesus’ way,

 My ears are ever listening

 To the words He does say.

My lips are ever sharing

 The Good News of salvation,

My voice is ever singing

 In joyful adoration.

My arms are ever open

 To all things embrace,

 For I know all happens

 By God’s sweet grace.

 My thoughts are ever full

 Of Jesus and His will,

 Praying my heart

 His Spirit does fill.

So will you join me

On travels Heaven-bound?

 Will you taste what I know

 Since God’s love I found?

 Will you allow Jesus

 To fill your heart and mind?

 Will you release vanities

That true treasure you find?

 Come now with me, friend,

 Let us travel together,

 Traversing this pathway

 No matter the weather.

 Whether the sun shines

 Or the days are gray,

Let us walk faithfully upon

 This sacred way.

  With open hearts and arms

All things let us embrace,

 Marveling in every moment

 God’s amazing grace.

 Yes, our hearts are in heaven,

 In treasures we have yet to see,

 Our hearts are in heaven,

 Our eyes fixed on eternity.

Oh my prayers were good, but her prayers led us into The Throne Room of our Mighty King.

I’ve been in The Throne Room with many prayers. I’ve sat at His feet and marveled. Yet my heart breaks as I realize not every prayer is a Throne Room prayer. At times, in the familiar walk with God, I’ve forgotten His holiness.

And I wonder if our prayers don’t reach higher than the ceiling because we want His blessings without obeying Him. We want His goodness, without living holy lives. We want His ear without having listening ears. We want physical well-being without spiritual wellness. We want His Living Water, yet refuse to drink. We want The Bread of Life, without dining with The Bread of Life. And we wonder why we aren’t in the Throne Room of His Presence.

Heavenly Father, forgive me.
