Heavenly Hug!

I love this verse. What a beautiful picture of our loving God. Not only does He keep us safe and close, He is gentle with those who are with young. Our God is a tender, compassionate God. What comfort to know He specializes in personal attention. He knows if you are weak and need extra care.

You are in His arms and always close to His heart. So my friends, enjoy your Heavenly Hug.

Put down the flesh and back away quickly!

I have a confession. I have flesh. Yes, I am a fleshly creature. And the older I get, the more my flesh is losing it's once tight texture. My flesh is falling. Bummer.

But ya know, that might not be such a bad thing. My flesh is temporary, and my flesh gets in the way of living an abandoned life for God.

Paul makes some great points in Romans 8, “Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. If you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:5-9,13-14 ESV).

I want to please God and live in the Spirit, not please my failing and falling flesh.

So my friends, I'm putting down the flesh and living in the amazing, wonderful, fulfilling joy of God's presence.

In 1991, at 20 years old, Natalie Nichols was a senior honor student at Baylor University, a talented musician, and a gifted motivational speaker. But then her life turned into a nightmare… in a matter of weeks, an undiagnosed illness suddenly progressed, taking her on a downward spiral. What began with a flu, fatigue, stiffness, and pain had progressed until she was confined for over seven years in a wheelchair, a bed, and then within her mind, as the infectious disease caused severe cognitive destruction.

“If I could only find enough pills to swallow – I wouldn’t have to do this anymore!”

There was little left that resembled the teenager who had begun the journey. Finally in 1996, a correct diagnosis was made – late-stage Lyme disease.

God’s grace carried Natalie through this ultimate test of her faith. His Word literally became her sustenance from day to day. As with Job, the Lord brought her through her trial with His love and grace.

“I would do it all again,” Natalie says, “because of how deeply I now know Christ!”

Even though she still has many recurring challenges, Natalie takes God’s grace to audiences across the country and around the world through TV and radio appearances, conferences and speaking engagements, proclaiming the truth and power of God’s life-changing Word.

Leaning into Life

Have you ever been in a body of water completely panicked, with arms flailing, thinking you’re drowning, when in reality all you had to do was lower your feet and stand?

I’ve been there, done that. Rather embarrassing, but very comforting when those toes touch terra firma or sand.

Which got me to wondering, how many times as Christians do we flounder, flap, and flail in the midst of our circumstances?

How often do we forget that Jesus says, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand.”

Stop, rest, think about, and soak in that wonderful truth.

No matter what difficulties we face, we really are always safe in God’s hands. We are firmly planted in His love. And when we take the time to be still, and know that He is God, remembering that He is in control, our flailing stops.

“Be still” in Hebrew means to sink down, let drop, be quiet, or relax.

How awesome that we can lean back, confident in the palm of God’s Hands. The Hands that formed us and who gave us life, allows us to relax in the life of His loving hands.

The Amazing Cycle of Prayer

May my prayer be set before you like incense.

The Spirit helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. For Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Don't Feed the Monster!

What if on your front porch someone left a deadly, poisonous, ravenous, wicked, rabid, crazed, flesh-eating monster?

Now mind you, the monster does tend to sweet talk and try to convince you that you should just take it in and everything will work out just fine.

I hate to tell you, we’ve all invited in the monster. We’ve all been hypnotized and mesmerized by his subtle soothing voice.

A lie is a monster.

Lies often slither in without us even being aware of its presence.

Remember that lie someone said when you were a kid that you weren’t smart?

Or the lie that said you’ve been used and abused and no one will want you now?
Or the lie that tells you that people and God wouldn’t love you if they knew the truth about you?
Or your too young?

Or your too old?

Or your too fat, too thin, too lazy, too dumb, too late, too early, too ....

Lies come in all shapes and sizes. They hook their slimy claws into minds and quietly wait to pounce when least expected.

Lies cause us to believe things that aren’t true about ourselves, our situation, and about others.
Lies get us to behave in ways we shouldn’t.

Lies keep us from healing.

Lies keep us miserable.

Lies keep us from relationships with people.

Lies keep us from a relationship with God.

So I’ve been wondering… what started the lie?

What lies do you believe about yourself, others, or your situation?

You don’t have to feed the monster.

Kick them out, squash them, starve them, and annihilate them with God’s truth!

And The truth will set you free.
