Saskia is a gorgeous, talented woman who has creative gifts galore and a wonderful flair for style and design. I just knew her wedding day would be full of all things stunning and I wasn’t disappointed! To add to this though, creative genes clearly run in Saskia’s family. Her mother made her amazing dress and her sisters did all their own hair and make-up as well as putting together the bouquets. They also made delicious treats to eat after the ceremony and decorated the day just perfectly. One rather impressive family if you ask me!

So, here are some pieces from the morning of this wonderful day as well as some moments from the afternoon. And if you want to see more of this gorgeous wedding (…and trust me you do!). Mark proposed to me when I was still nineteen and studying at University. We had been ‘going out’ for a couple of years and at the time were carrying out a semi-long distance relationship, with Mark living in Hobart and me residing in Launceston. We had known eachother for quite some while. We went to the same school, the same church and shared mutual friends. Mark reckons I caught his eye even when I was in primary school and barely knew who he was. Which is very sweet but hard to believe, given that I was a very daggy, ‘four eyed’, third grader! Nonetheless, some years later and when we were both in our final years of school I developed an affection for this cute, funny, smart, musical and creative boy who made me smile. We spent late nights chatting in the church carpark just behind his house, sitting on the cold bitumen until our bums went numb. Then, on the evening of March 25th 1999, he finally got the nerve to ask me out. We held hands and he walked me home where we shared a majorly awkward first kiss…..it still makes me grin (and cringe) when I think about it now : )

A small time later and with a few minor obstacles in between, we knew we wanted to get married. Mark popped the question after first sending me on a clue driven, note finding, boyfriend hunt! He hid notes all over the place! Beginning in the granny flat just behind his parent’s house (where I spent most weekends and holidays), then up at the local supermarket, over at our old school and in someone’s letter box! I walked to each destination with a torch, fuelled with excitement and giddy anticipation! Then, when I finally found him, he was waiting with a ring, a huge smile and an evening picnic which we happily devoured after I said ‘yes’….of course!

I have since kept all the notes/clues that Mark wrote (as you can see below). I am terribly sentimental and hope to keep them for as long as I live. They are handwritten pieces of gold as far as I’m concerned.

Anyways, I am so happy that we have reached this milestone in our marriage. Mark is my best friend beyond a doubt and a wonderful husband. He puts up with all my annoying habits and still gives me foot rubs when I have been nothing but total pain! I feel very blessed to be in relationship with someone whom I love so dearly.

So this is us on the evening of our anniversary. We look tired but happy….which pretty much sums us up most of the time. ; )
