"Tween" Birthday!

2011-02-27T22:37:00.000-08:00

We have a "Tween" in the house!! My oldest baby has officially entered the double digits............YIKES!

We began her day with breakfast in bed.

YUM!!

My daughter is into Orange this year...........and since I had those fabulous lemons around the house :)...........I decided to use them as my inspiration too.

I used scrapping paper as placemats and hung some ribbon in bows from the chandelier.

Name Cards were made from some mini staitionary found in my scrapping drawer.

I used the same ribbon to make a runner and added the lemons and daisies with the centerpiece of cupcakes, to the middle of the table.

There were chocolate and vanilla cupcakes for everyone's liking.

And the birthday girl made sure she made the right wish!!

When life gives you lemons............

2011-02-26T08:52:00.000-08:00

I got a bag of lemons from my folks garden. I came home and washed them and added a touch of color around the house.

I put them in three containers, one for each room.

A little bowl of lemons added some color to the sofa table in the family room.

I love the yellow in the kitchen!

And I added the large bowl of lemons in the dining room with some branches from my magnolia tree.

I'm so ready for spring!!!

Hiding the annoying TV Cables

2010-11-10T20:16:00.000-08:00

So...........we used to have the TV cables tucked away in the wall, it was so nice! But than..........we got HDTV, which meant another cable..............and than we got the Wii, yet again, another cable. Why couldn't we just tuck these new cables in the wall? Well, here's why.
When we had the TV placed on the wall we thought we were so cool and tie-wrapped all the cables neatly in the wall, prior to the drywall/texture (closing up the wall). Problem with this, is that we cannot pull a cable from one end to the other, (behind the TV to behind the shelves). This also means we cannot feed a new cable through the wall, not knowing where it will end up.
So, long story short, if you need to install a plasma to the wall, make sure you add a "smurf tube" in the wall, prior to closing up the wall. It's basically tubing inserted in the wall, which will allow you to easily slide cables from one end to the next.

This is what it looked like with the annoying cables on display.

My options to hide the cables were the following:

1) Hire a contractor to come and insert cables properly with a "smurf tube" ( $$+$$)

2) Paint the cables to match the wall color and staple them to the wall

3) "THINK, THINK, THINK Lisa, you can come up with something."

So, I went with my third option, and came up with this.

I purchased two painting canvas' and painted them with the same color as my wall color.

I put one on either side of the mantel, just because I'm symmetrical like that ;) And voila..........the cables are nowhere to be seen. However, I still would like to go with Option #1. At this point I will just add it to my list of things to do in our nest :)

Looks cool, right? I'm pleased with it for now :) I do like how the vases kind of look like they're popping out of the canvas'.

I still haven't figured out what I want to put on top of the shelves.......if anything at all.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

2010-10-24T22:53:00.000-07:00

It was like Christmas morning.............the kids came to wake me up and we all snuck downstairs to make a birthday breakfast for Daddy. Banana pancakes with milk and white chocolate chips, daddy's favorite!

.................and than Mommy and Daddy got some R and R :)

Sports came with us................for just a brief moment ;)

and this little guy was welcome!

ah..............complete beauty!

...........and we sipped hot cocoas while watching the sunset.

Less than $3 of brightness!

Little things that make us smile

Flowers

The gardner was out trimming away as I was leaving to pick up the kids from school. These were on the ground. I quickly picked them up and brought a little bit of sunshine to the kitchen table.

Kate's "tween" room makeover

2010-09-12T20:36:00.000-07:00

For my daughter's 9th birthday , we surprised her with a room makeover! She was quite pleased with it. It was months in the making. I purchased items and stuffed them in the closet in preparation for the big day. I had two days to complete the mission, as I sent her away to "vovo's house (my mom's) for the weekend, and her Daddy and I got to work.

BEFORE

AFTER

The inspiration piece began with the polka dot bedding from Target! At one of our many trips to Target, my daugther pointed to this comforter and said, "MOM, I LOVE this, I wished I could get this for my room!" Done! The following day, I went back to find that they were out of twin size, so I went to two other targets and finally came home with a twin :) Soon after, I continued to buy things and stored them in the shed until the big project weekend came. The Desk/Orange Chair/Lamp are all from IKEA. Pillows are from Home goods, except for the orange ones. "Vo-vo", made those to match the curtains that replaced the mirror closet doors.
