The White Party

Get ready for the most popular themed party for the next 2.5 months - The White Party. After going to two of them over the past weekend, I know I'm going to have to stock up on some appropriate whites to add into my Black Sea of a closet...luckily, whites are so easy to repeat.

Here are a The Rules for attending The White Party:

It's ok to steal a little attention.

1. If you're going to The White Party, wear white. The only exceptions are the following: 1. Your gay best friend is throwing it - in this case, the only white he will be wearing at most is a pair of super chic Dolce & Gabbana trousers paired with a brightly colored sport jacket, pattern most likely included, bow tie optional depending on his hair., 2. You're crashing The White Party after 1:00 am and are coming from your hot hipster boyfriend's art exhibit opening, who is also moodily tagging along wearing all black.

2. Yes, this means you wear white shoes too. I don't care if you want to add "a pop of color" to your white Marc Jacobs sheath with the huge-white-double-breasted-buttons. If this is an all white party, stick to the paint sample please. I'm willing to bet my vodka soda on it that every other girl would much rather wear this season's neon green Jimmy Choo's rather than last season's white strappy leather Manolos. P.S. If you do randomly choose to wear your white patent leather Louboutin pumps and they just so happen to have "a pop of color" on the sole, this is totally ok and super cool and something I would do...just saying.

3. Speaking of vodka sodas, order one. Why? Because they're clear.

4. On the subject of things not so transparent, don't you dare get a spray tan the day of. Even worse, don't you dare do a D.I.Y. self-tanner the day of. I don't want to see orange streaks on your white outfit, and more so importantly, I don't want to see orange streaks on my white outfit as you brush on by. If I see the latter, I may just bump you into the pool and walk away. Don't worry, white and water are a boy's best friend...you'll recover.

5. Forego the neutral lip. You're already in white, enough with the corpse look. I suggest a bright red à la Marilyn Monroe, a lavender purple à la Givenchy Spring runway, or a fun pink à la Barbie. And as far as fragrance is concerned, definitely spritz up. It will set you apart. However, I beg, do not do some "airy light young prostitute" parfum, you're wafty enough as it is in white, grab onto some substance and musk.

6. Leave your Chanel Effing Flap at home. Just because you have one doesn't mean it needs to be with you everywhere. Unless it's a mini white on a gold chain worn long and not doubled, leave it at home with your dog (in separate corridors, of course, don't let Dina make it into a chew toy). I suggest carrying a delicate Judith Leiber or a hideously ginormous white Birkin that you shouldn't own under the age of 65.

7. If you have a male date in tow, make sure he isn't wearing a white tuxedo button down with pleats and ruffles and further embarrassing details. A plain white button down will do, a white silk V-neck is even better. A white jacket is necessary, and it must not be leather or linen. A different color trim is acceptable as an accessory. As far as shoes go, I love a pair of patent white Pradas with a chunky sole or a pair of white suede Tod's...not to be confused with Tom's. Socks must be white and the only jewelry that can be worn is a watch. No gold chains or pinky rings...we don't want him looking like a Cuban Drug Lord. Save that role for closed doors.

It's summertime and the best time of the year to rock a fun, casual skirt. Looking through style pins, I found some absolute skirt disasters putting themselves out in the open to the public eye. I've chosen three looks that highlight some serious skirt crimes in hopes that you'll learn from them and not create the same catastrophe on the streets.

Don't worry, no faces were exposed...

1. Celibate in the City.

Congratulations. You've officially given a skirt absolutely no sex appeal whatsoever. How the hell did you do it? White linen top with no structure, hemline at the calf, gladiator shoes an actual gladiator would wear. You sure did frigid it up nicely.

2. Patterned Poverty.

There are three things wrong with the skirt. "Three things?" you ask. No darling, more than three things, but we don't have time to go through them all. One, the atrocious print. Two, the tiered skirt layers. Three, the waistband. Case and point: Not all gorgeous models have a brain large enough to dress themselves.

3. My (un)Favorite Martian.

Where did you drop from? Out of space? This look imitates a martian, and definitely not my favorite martian. Your sweater and shoes need a pair of "Audrey" cropped slim trousers and your skirt needs to be burned. P.S. No one wears that shape of sunglasses here on Earth.

Yesterday was Opening Day at the San Diego Polo Club. Ladies in wedges gave the ponies' fancy footwear a run for their money and a number of dapper gentlemen wore their white pants proud. As we await for the pictures to be released for my yearly Best Dressed polo posts (San Diego Polo Club's Opening Day from 2011 and San Diego Polo Club, Opening Day 2012), I thought it'd be fun to do a little "Dos and Don'ts" list to keep in check for the rest of polo season.

1. Do dress up. I get it, there's not a "specifically stated strict" dress code enforced at the Polo Club, but Dear God, try to at least look presentable. Some of you showed up looking like you were out for your Sunday grocery shopping at Whole Foods and on your way back to Fairbanks when you decided to stop by the field to see what was going on. Blue denim jeans and a white zip up jacket from a cheap Dolce & Gabbana track suit are not a good look. Men and women alike are included in this bad example since I saw this outfitted style from both genders yesterday, you know who you are...although you're probably not reading my blog, please start.

2. Don't drink the cheap champagne by the glass. Korbel sucks and you will get a massive headache before the bartender even pops open the bottle...oh wait, it's probably already opened and flat from the previous cheap ass who only bought a glass. Buy a bottle - even if you have to hire somebody to walk around next to you and carry it. Note: Ladies, this is what super nice and hot boyfriends are for.

3. Do bring a pair of sunglasses. Even if they don't fit in your itty bitty clutch, do bring a pair. When you leave your VIP tent to go out for the champagne divot stomp on the field you're going to want them...especially if you're a couple flutes of Dom deep. I made this mistake yesterday thinking that my new Tom Ford eyeshadow palette was too hot to cover up and ended up being blinded by a horrible mix of sun and photographers. Blue eyeshadow got in my eye from all the squinting and soon enough I was crying cobalt blue tears...Allure magazine, where's my close up?

4. Don't match your ex-boyfriend. If you have a gold "H" Hermès belt and he has a gold "H" Hermès belt and it's Opening Day at the Polo Club, what are the chances you will both wear your gold "H" Hermès belts? Pretty much a guarantee. Best way to avoid the situation in the future? Don't buy your next boyfriend such nice matching gifts for Christmas because you will not get it back in the break up bag along with your Neutrogena face wipes and flat iron.

Cheese and Carbs

5. Do order a cheese platter. You didn't eat all day so that you could fit into your sundress or high-waisted trousers (that I beg of you, are not made out of stretchy fabric), you deserve a bite or three of cheese and carbs. Plus this is the only decent appetizer on the menu. If you think browned celery sticks and GMO hummus are healthy, you're on crack. Order the cheese board to share and save yourself an impulse slider later on in the afternoon that you grabbed off the nicely dressed man's plate.

6. Don't wear lip gloss. You are just asking for a Monet in your hair if you do. This is the day to try out a new lip stain. In fact, this is the day that the lip stain was invented for. It doesn't move around your face, and it doesn't transfer to your hair and act like an adhesive when a gust of wind decides to sweep across the field...which is every minute of the afternoon.

7. Do refrain from dancing too much. I know, I know, you had the time of your life at the Polo Club and you just do not want the greatest afternoon of your aged life to end! But please, collect yourself and gracefully leave when it is time to leave. Do not dance after the DJ has packed up his tracks and left, do not dance as the maintenance crew is shuffling sh*t from the porter potties. Better hope your dancing shoes Shuffled off to Buffalo long, long ago.

8. Don't talk loudly about your Bentley waiting in line at valet. Especially if the valet boy brings up a Bentley that was rented by the fake b*tch standing next to you at last week's event. Renting cars is like Rent the Runway, it's hardly (not at all) acceptable and slightly (very) in appropriate. If you're that ashamed of your 2006 BMW, spare yourself the rented humiliation and money and Uber it home.

9. Do find a fun after party to go to. You're dressed way too hot to go on home. If there isn't a spoken of after party that you're interested in stopping by, throw one of your own. I suggest heading over to Rancho Valencia and tasting their varieties of Mescal in the Pony Room. Market is fun too if you want to be le fancy and a tad bit cliché. Avoid L'Auberge or anything over by the Del Mar Plaza because you will end up sitting in traffic due to the crazy carnies caravan-ing to the Del Mar Fair.

The Scenario: You landed in Vegas, little jetsetter you, and you polished off a bottle of wine over a late liquid lunch at La Cave with your girlfriend. You have fancy schmancy dinner plans in 4 hours. There is no way in Sin City hell that you liquid eye liner is going to be able to go on straight, let alone talking your hair into laying straight.

The Solution: Get ready in Vegas baby, my way.

Encore Spa

1. Book an appointment at Dollheads (702-431-4315). It's not the Encore Spa, so you won't be paying over $100 with tip per head. Save your treatments there for tomorrow, trust me, a facial and massage will be just what your Green Machine hangover fueled body will need. Dollheads is only $40 for a basic blow out and they do a fantastic job.

2. Do not, I repeat, do not accept a mimosa upon arriving at Dollheads. They are 99% OJ from something even worse than concentrate. Ask for a water and a bottle of champagne (to share with your girlfriend...lush).

3. Absolutely do not let your girlfriend talk you into buying a wig. I don't care if it's as a funny surprise for your friend's bachelorette party. Your hair will not survive the wig cap, even though the stylist says it will (liar, she's working off commission), and you will look like an idiot. Even a Moroccan princess could not pull this look off.

4. After your blow out, head straight to Neimans. When the make-up artist at Tom Ford is on her "break" do not settle for any other make-up artists sitting around. Go play in the Shoe Salon.

5. If the Valentino flats your friend is trying on look like Tom's, tell her by saying, "Are those Tom's? Super cute." She will put them right down and will thank you in the long run.

6. When the Tom Ford make-up artist is back, feel free to be picky. You waited long enough and probably already spent a pretty penny to shoe...show...for it.

7. If you got an air-brush tan the day before, do not let your make-up artist con you into buying any skincare or face make-up. You don't always look like Ross from Friends during the episode when he gets his spray tan, so don't bother bringing home new palettes to remember it by. Stick to eyeshadows and lipsticks, you're in Neimans, you'll get to your purchase quota.

8. Walk across the street to your suite at Encore at the Wynn, you still have about 3 sips of wine to burn off before dinner, save the cab for later when your feet need a saving grace.

9. Call ahead for your damn luggage that you left with the bellman because you didn't want to wait in your room a hot second. Speaking from personal experience (as with all the other points I've been making...), do not wait until you get up to your room to call for your luggage. Especially if you left the Louis at the Wynn when your staying at Encore. Big difference. You will end up waiting an hour and a half and have eaten half a box of wheat thins in your bed during the process.

10. Slip on that glitzy Vegas dress (Balmain or Versace do the job) and your hooker heels, throw the contents of your clutch together, retouch your newly purchased pout, and head on out the door!

My sister and I were just discussing the Short Guy Hotness Phenomenon. Recently, shorter guys have started to appear hotter and hotter. 1. Never walk up to the club with 5 guys on your arm. The only arm candy you are allowed to wear is a set of Hermès bracelets and a hot girlfriend that the promoters can picture you making out with later if they set you at the right table of successful athletes.

2. For the men: If you're footing the bill at a $15,000 minimum table next to the dance floor and you're wearing Kenneth Cole loafers, you need to check your priorities. The shoe just doesn't fit.

3. Don't spill your vodka cran on the girl in the white bandage dress. If you can't keep your distance, order a vodka soda for God's sake.

9. Never wear a fake Herve Leger bandage dress when standing next to a girl in the real thing. This is especially the case if it's 4:30 AM and you're waiting in line at Secret Pizza at The Cosmopolitan...your fake will not remain a secret, even to the champagne drunken eyes.

It's not a time to be modest, ladies. Memorial Day Weekend is the kick off to showing some serious skin (if you haven't stripped down already) for these warm summer months ahead.

One thing to remember if you want to be tasteful, is to pick what you're revealing and limit it. Want to show off your Brazilian booty? Cover up the boobies. Working on that rowing and have a killer back to show for it? Maybe opt for a serious back display and keep it balanced with a sexy cut out one piece. Did you just pay a visit to Dr. 90210? A triangle bikini is your best friend, just keep your butt cheeks in check with a modest bottom.

Shopping around this season, I've noticed a huge abundance of black still lurking on the racks. No complaints here, black is my signature. However, I got to thinking about black sundresses...is there really such a thing?

When I think of sundresses I picture white linens, pale yellow and pink cotton, some type of "creme de la creme" crochet, etc. Black dresses that are short enough to be called sundresses get filed into the casual L.B.D. section of my closet, but maybe they deserve a second thought when categorizing.

How to Wear Your Isabels.

I'm absolutely in lust with Isabel Marant's wedge sneakers. I think they're trendy, edgy, and hip as f*ck. I just got a pair of all white Isabels this past weekend in San Francisco and they're my newest favorite addition to my shoe closet. Moon shoes or not, on my size-Shrek feet, I'm obsessed. It pays to have big feet when it's the last pair in the company - score!

Isabel Marant's wedge sneakers are rare for a reason, darling reader. She doesn't want just anybody rocking these because I'm not going to lie, there's a lot that can go very wrong, even for the most fashionable of fashionistas.

Before you consider owning a pricey pair, I suggest you take some guidelines to heart...

1. Never rock a fake. If you aren't willing to fork over $665 for a pair of basics, I highly doubt the other pieces of your outfit will be able to keep up. No offense, but if you don't want to invest...don't attempt.

2. Keep your white clean. Unless you've chosen a solid dark color (black, navy, blood red, etc.) prepare your princess a** to keep your white clean - whether it's an all white pair or white and color pair. Out to the club? Avoid the sloppy slut's vodka cran. Roaming the streets? Watch the gum. At your friend's penthouse? Remember, not all penthouse pooches are trained. Moral of the story: be aware. I recommend wiping down your pair after every use, this is not a sneaker to get grunge.

3. Velcro up. I've seen it attempted before, a creative rendition of Velcro strap placement. If you're confused, ask your 3-year old niece to help you out. Velcro-ing up goes in order, left to right, and all the way up the wedge. The only Velcro strap you're allowed to leave undone is the top ankle strap underneath the top part of the shoe tongue.

4. Accessorizing for dummy's. Stick with the trend! These sneakers are hip, not elegant. Don't pair your wedges with a pearl necklace, even (and especially) if it's a classic piece by Chanel. Think Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Usher, or Olsen. Make it trendy and hot. My recommendations: oversized scarves, sick hats, and leather bomber jackets.

5. Mix it up. You don't only have to wear black skinnies and a bomber jacket with these kicks (even though that's my uniform). I love a pair of Isabels paired with shorty short sheer floral dress, a high-low edgy maxi, high-waisted shorts with an over-sized off the shoulder sweatshirt...get creative.

After Chanel's Byzantine Pre-Fall 2011 Collection, I didn't know if I would ever fall in love with their costume jewelry the same way again in future collections. The Byzantine collection was so my style from the boxy shapes to the distressed bronze/gold, and not to mention...Chanel was more on point than ever, personal stylistic matters set aside.

However, this season for Chanel's S/S 2013 line, I'm past lust and on my way to love again for the costume jewelry pieces, especially the baubly bracelets. We're talking straight back to the essence of Chanel with clusters of beautiful pearls and simple chain to logo detailing.

Love it? I'm obsessed.

I'm absolutely full blown bananas for the Louis Vuitton Summer 2013 collection. It's chic, it's mod, and it's so, so bold. The yellow is fabulous and I can't believe we had to wait this long for a designer to throw out such an incredible burst of summer. The checkers are perfectly scaled to the garments and don't give off that horrible "picnic blanket" feel. I'm obsessed.

So I get it, it's so hard to look cool wearing rain gear when you're a man. Especially when you're in Southern California and totally not prepared for a 12-hour downpour in May.

Rain jacket? Only if you drive a Maserati. I swear, men driving a Maserati are the only ones decked out in the waterproof windbreakers...even when it's not raining. I saw three hot shots driving to work this morning, all wearing matching puffers. One of them even had his top down. Show off.

I came across such a chic decor idea on Pinterest the other day...using your empty fragrance bottles to hold flowers! Obviously, most perfume bottles don't have this wide of a brim (unless you got a huge ouncer), but the idea is just fab.

Ignore It; Platform Gone Wrong.

Ok. So, I'm really having a hard time ignoring the chunky low platform "wedge" sandals that are out right now...both in department stores and on the streets...yikes! And when I say I'm having a hard time ignoring them, it's not in a good way.

What were these designers thinking?
Out of comfort? Never a good idea.

Better question...what are these consumers thinking? These are the most hideous shoes, in all shapes and colors...unless of course the shape magically transforms itself into a 5.2-inch red sole of the heel.

Dating Gone Skinny: San Diego Edition.

A date doesn't always have to be Pretty Woman status for it to be a success. There are plenty of places to go that don't involve shopping on Rodeo Drive, flinging escargot across the restaurant, and hooking up on the lid of a grand piano.

Wining and dining is nice (and essential to falling in lust), but you don't have to soak your carbs in truffle oil and wash it all down with a bottle or two of wine...every night. I'm a huge fan of unconventional, health inspired dates.

I mean, you kill yourself at the gym for the guy so you can look good wearing minimal clothing, you might as well leave the date feeling like you're still the skinny b*tch you were an hour ago.

Give your reservation at Mr. A's a rain check while you check out these skinny places to flirt at in San Diego...

1. Head to Trifecta Tavern, located inside of Whole Foods Market Del Mar. Here, you'll find a huge assortment of beer and wine (reds, whites, and sparkling) and "healthy" tavern-esque style bites. I recommend a flute of bubbles & sushi! Ok ok, and the flatbread pizzas are amazing.

2. Get your booty to bBar Superfood Vitality Bar, also located in Del Mar, for a superfood smoothie and a protein bite (2 for $5...meant to be). Show your edgy side by ordering my favorite smoothie, the Rockstar! Super (food) hot.

3. The Belly of the Beast never sounded so sexy as it does coming from Underbelly, located in San Diego's chicly urban hang out, Little Italy. Order your noodles vegan and boost your metabolism with some hot hot spices and attractive people watching.

4. True Food Kitchen is an absolute necessity, located at Fashion Valley Mall (next to Hèrmes). Keep it virgin with a Kale Aid or liven up the fun with a coconut water infused cocktail. Obsessed with the seasonal menu items, get them while they're thriving!

5. Look good naked after leaving The Naked Cafe, there's one located in Point Loma and one in Encinitas. Opt for a variety of protein/carb/fat breakdown options on the menu and enjoy almond milk in your latte.

Coachella Cutoffs; Strategic Distress.

Strategic distress is the best advice I can give you for your Coachella cutoffs. It will make all the difference in the world. How to know if it's right? You've got to spot it. There's no easy guideline, nor is there a perfect fit for everyone. Cutoffs need to be distressed in a way that flatters the contours of your body and are sized perfectly to your proportions.

The best way to get a perfect pair of cutoffs is to distress them yourself.

1. Put on the pair of shorts (or pants, if that's what you're starting with).
2. Grab that scissors and start cutting.
3. Cheese grader, sand paper, bleach - distress it.

Never take your project off your body.
Unless of course you're burning and working with open flames...

If this is too much work, there are a few pairs that I recommend trying on pre-distressed. They are not cheap. Why? You should know this, you're the one not wanting to do the work!

If properly fitted, these dangerous distresses look incredible...go try 'em on...

Festival Season with Child of Wild.

Child of Wild is a huge of obsession of mine this festival season. Cow skulls, bohemian jewelry, Navajo turquoise...love love love! Not to mention, 5% of all Child of Wild Cow Skull proceeds are donated to art programs in local schools all over Southern California, how sick is that? Child of Wild believes in artists and dreamers and is devoted to inspiring the next generation of creators.

Speaking of artists and dreamers, there is no place better than Coachella to find them at play. I spoke with the gorgeous, free spirited Eileen Lofgren, owner and designer of Child of Wild, and she gave me some serious insight (and inspiration) for the upcoming festival season.

Check out the interview below...

LMP: What was your inspiration behind starting your line, Child of Wild?
Eileen: The philosophy behind my business is everything sold or designed is culturally-rich.. I was a Humanities major in college and learned everything there is to know about what makes the human race tick on a personable level. I constantly referred it to the wild abyss of human nature. I find the objects I create or obtain are a product of that wild.. I am a child of “that” wild. I was getting really tired of always seeing all this cheap sh*t from china that people seemed to collect and collect. None of which had any real importance other then its kind of trendy. I wanted a site that sold things with importance and in buying these pieces be contributing to this world. I give artistic credit to my pieces and explain why they hold importance to their respected culture. My Cow Skulls always have an inspiration behind them. Either is the Art Deco movement of the 1930’s or if it’s a painting like Georgia O’keeffe’s “Cow's Skull with Calico Roses." I love the history of things and that really shows in my work.

LMP: What is the vision you have stylistically of a typical Child of Wild wearer?
Eileen: Well first my hope is everyone feel comfortable in wearing Child of Wild… from a normal babe who is jumping on the tribal jewelry trend too a grandma who loves Navajo turquoise. The style aesthetic I envision my clients to have involves a mixture of vintage cloths with high end silks... thrifted combat boots with their For Love & Lemons silk maxi and boyfriend’s shirt...or a beach babe in a cute bikini top, bellbottoms and a vintage Kimono hangin’ around a summer bonfire... I love collected outfits not designed outfits. You should feel depth to your ensemble. That’s what gives my clients the edge.

LMP: I want to stock up majorly before Coachella, what are a few of your favorite Child of Wild pieces to rock at the festival?
Eileen: Anything turquoise is hot. My Native American collection is all either Navajo or Zuni designed and even have some Old Pawn pieces. Layer up that arm candy… If you don’t have an high arm cuff… you’re crazy! I am also in a HUGE Indian jewelry phase… Coachella is perfect because all my Indian jewelry, headdresses and belts were meant for a woman who dances in celebration. Festivals are the only time when you can blur the line of costume and normal outfits.

LMP: How about some styling tips for the festival weekend?
Eileen: Have fun and don’t wear neon. Don’t be that awkward raver in furry boots… Coachella and other festivals may have EDM but its mostly a rock festival so think Woodstock or 90’s grunge. ALSO don’t wear anything you would be sad if it got ruined… sitting on grass, dancing hard, sweaty people out of their mind… leave you precious silks at home.

LMP: What's an absolute must when it comes down to dressing for Coachella?
Eileen: Number one BIGGEST must in the world... is wear boots or booties. Not only is it super on trend to rock the bootie with something short and flowy... but it will also save your feet, lower back and all around well being. Think your going to be running around and dancing for 7-8 hours straight. Number two for this year… layers and layers of jewelry. Lots of rings and necklaces... super boho! I plan to go more simple with solids and casual apparel and let my crazy accessories speak for themselves.

LMP: Now, what about an absolute worst?
Eileen: I love Coachella and festivals in general because there really isn’t a wrong thing to wear. Its about expressing yourself... people come as avatars, fairies and weird rainbows... ive seen it all. And I LOVE IT because it’s those creatures that make the festivals the weird transcendental world that it is… that and the music. But I would stay away from neon.. anything that comes close to a tutu .. fake Raybands with popped out lenses aren’t attracting anyone. Be original.. don’t come hippy because that’s what you think you should be .. come as your favorite Disney princess if that rocks your boat.. just don’t fake it.. we can all tell your trying.

LMP: Do you have any celebrities that you look to for Coachella weekend inspiration?
Eileen: God… always. Vintage: Bridget Bardot, Stevie Nicks, Edie Sedgwick, Françoise Hardy New: Erin Wasson, Kate Moss (duh), Abby Lee.

LMP: Let's talk music for a hot last second, what artists are on your radar this year at the festival?
Eileen: So many… top few though are: Moby (duh), Wild Belle, Beach House, Sigur Ros, Yeasayer, Bookashade, Thee Oh Sees, Purity Ring and Seth Troxer.. so many more but the set times aren’t out yet so I’m holding off.

After reading the interview, I just know you're super excited to be going to Coachella this weekend or next (or both, for the ones who can't get enough).
