Here is where I got my design idea. The strip is supposed to signify the helmet stripe for the Saint's. One of my nails is smudged and a little messed up but who cares, right. :) Now I have some balloons to blow up!

Nail polish called 'unplugged'

Here is another nail pic. I need to get a life, all I seem to do is work and do my nails, haha. Anyway, this color is called unplugged and I used some silver sparkly polish with it. Then I added some rhinestones to the thumb nail because I can ;) I guess you can't see it very good in the pic though.

I also bought some new pillows for my bed this week.......oooooh that's living life on the edge, lol.

Shave and a hair cut

Hi Everyone,
Coco got a shave and a hair cut this week. She was totally matted so I had to take her to the groomer. It it short but I totally love it, she is so cute.

She hates having her picture taken. She didn't even want to look at me. I had to trick her and be really quick...haha.

I did put her little coat on today too. She was a little cold. Sorry, I didn't get a pic of her wearing her coat.

I stopped at Walgreen's today and got some super deals. First I got a Colorsilk hair color that was on sale for $1.99 with the coupon from the weekly ad. Sometimes I get dark brown (like this one) and other times I get soft black. Depends on my mood, I guess.

Then I was looking for some cuticle oil for my nails and I found these on sale for $1. 79 (reg. $5.99) so I got three of them...super deal!!!!

I also picked up some Wet Ones for the car. These were on sale for $2 each, then I used two $1.50 coupons, and also a $1 coupon printed that I will use on my next shopping trip. Awesome! So i basically got these for .50cents each and a cool coupon for my next shopping trip. So that's like free stuff.

Here is the coupon that printed out for $1 off my next shopping trip....I can use it on pretty much anything I want. :)

Well, that's it for my good deals. I didn't want to spend too much and I am doing very good with sticking to my budget. These are things I would buy anyway, so I just try to buy them when they are on sale.

Painted my nails red/gold/black

Check it out!!! ...here is my design inspiration for this week. I may have gotten a little carried away but I can still type (slowly) so it's all good, haha. I will probably file them to make them shorter in a few days. :)

Wow, I just noticed all the dirty fingerprints in the background, sorry...too lazy to take new pics. That is the top of my laptop in the background. lol

And here is what I used: base coat to prevent staining, China Glaze ruby pump, gold striper, black (I didn't have black striper so I used black with a thin paint brush made for use with acrylics), and speed dry top coat. :)

And here is the stuff I use to do my acrylics. There's a pic of the thin brush I used for the design also.

And my handy-dandy electric nail file kit. :)

And, of course, a little rhinestone for some extra bling.

I do my own acrylic, I know it's bad for your nails but I do it anyway. This one really snows how much my real nails have grown out.

I apologize for the blurry pictures. It seems my camera does not like to take close-ups.

I just picked up a bottle of China Glaze too....it's ruby pumps. I hope they never stop making that color! Tommy over at the salon is going to be mad when he finds out I got that color....so I don't need him anymore, lol. He's still the best. ;)

Are your window blinds safe?

I put the window blinds back up today. I took them down a while back because I needed to fix them and figured I would do it when I got the repair kits for them. The sun shining in those two windows was getting almost unbearable. I have now fixed them so they are safe according to daycare licensing standards. Here is a link if you want to find out more about the safety of your own window blinds. Good information to know even if you don't have a home daycare or small kids at home.

Mead Johnson, Maker of Enfamil, Loses Multi-Million Dollar False Advertising Case Against Store-Brand

GORDONSVILLE, VA., December 2 , 2009—PBM Products, LLC, a leading infant formula company that supplies store-brand infant formulas to Walmart, Sam's Club, Target, Kroger, Walgreens, and other retailers, has received a favorable jury verdict and a $13.5 million damages award in its false advertising lawsuit against Mead Johnson & Co., the operating subsidiary of Mead Johnson Nutrition Company (NYSE: MJN) (“Mead Johnson”), the makers of the national-brand Enfamil® LIPIL® Infant Formula. Mead Johnson is 83 percent-owned by Bristol-Myers Squibb.

PBM’s lawsuit claimed that Mead Johnson engaged in false and misleading campaigns against PBM’s competing store-brand of infant formulas, suggesting they do not provide the same nutrition as Mead Johnson’s brands. PBM’s store-brand infant formulas cost up to 50 percent less than Enfamil® LIPIL®. The $13.5 million in damages awarded by the jury in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia is one of the largest damages awards ever for a false advertising case.

“This decision by a jury of the people confirms that Mead Johnson’s ads have been false in suggesting that there is a nutritional difference between our store-brand formula products and their products, when in fact the only major difference is price,” said PBM CEO Paul B. Manning. “Despite Mead Johnson’s scare tactics, parents are assured that PBM’s formula products are as high quality and nutritious as Mead Johnson’s.”

U.S. District Court Judge James R. Spencer issued his written rulings yesterday following the November 10^th jury verdict. Judge Spencer’s written rulings permanently enjoined Mead Johnson from making any false statements concerning PBM's infant formula, including the claims Mead Johnson previously made in Enfamil advertising that "It may be tempting to try a less expensive store brand, but only Enfamil LIPIL is clinically proven to improve brain and eye development," and "there are plenty of other ways to save on baby expenses without cutting back on nutrition." The Court also ordered Mead Johnson to retrieve from the public domain all advertising or promotional materials containing these or any other false claims about PBM's store brand infant formula.

The nutritional supplements under examination in the case are two fats, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid), which Mead Johnson calls “LIPIL®” solely for marketing purposes and touts as promoting infant brain and eye development. PBM’s claim focused on Mead Johnson’s direct mailing to more than 1.6 million parents of an alarming blurry picture of a child’s cartoon duck next to a clear picture of the same image which suggested that anything other than the Enfamil LIPIL® blend of ingredients is inferior and will result in poor eye and brain development. Other parts of the false advertising campaign consist of statements that only Enfamil LIPIL has been proven to confer visual and mental benefits on infants, and store-brand formulas are a “cut-back in nutrition” compared to Enfamil.

PBM successfully argued that these advertisements were false and misleading especially since PBM store- brand infant formulas have the same nutrients at the same levels as Enfamil. PBM infant formulas are formulated to contain DHA and ARA, and are sourced from the same supplier in amounts which equal or exceed the DHA and ARA in Mead Johnson’s Enfamil LIPIL®.

This decision marks the third time PBM Products has sued Mead Johnson for false advertising claims. On the prior occasions Mead Johnson admitted that it made false claims about PBM’s products. It is also the first false advertising case to focus on the issue of DHA and ARA nutritional ingredients in formula, which were introduced into the market in 2003 and have become a staple in recent years by many brands as key components for infant development.

“This jury verdict should send a significant and clear message to Mead Johnson about the way it conducts marketing and advertising for its brands,” said Manning. “This lawsuit also demonstrates our complete commitment to defending our products and the valuable brands of our retail partners.”

“As a parent and supporter of children’s medical research, I take a personal responsibility in assuring our customers that the products we produce are healthy and nutritionally equivalent to brand names like Enfamil® LIPIL®. It is important, especially now, for parents to know that there are lower priced yet highly nutritious store-brand formulas that will provide the same benefit to their children as any national brand name formula product,” Manning added.

The U.S. infant formula market is estimated at $3.4 billion and the global market is estimated at $7.9 billion.

This legislation vested FDA with the authority to ensure that all infant formula products sold in the United States provide the necessary levels of identified nutrients required for the growth of healthy babies. Christmas Nail Design :)

I did my nails and they turned out great. First I did an acrylic fill....yes, I did my own. I don't have the time or money to keep going down to see Tommy, haha. He hates it when I do my own, so don't tell him, lol. Anyway, the kit was only $6 and I watched a few how-to videos on youtube. It wasn't that hard and they turned out really nice.

Then I painted them gold, sooooo pretty by itself but I had to add stuff. You know it! So I painted some cute holly designs on them and added some tiny gold beads for a little extra bling ;)

So that's what I have been up to....how about you?

Furnace Repair :(

This pic is actually the neighbors' house. Mine is the same floor plan, same color, same street, haha. I just couldn't find a pic of ours. :)

Well, in this lovely land of homeownership I had to call a repair man for the furnace. It was lighting but now blowing, so it was not heating the house. I ended up needing a new motor for it. The repair man was very nice and quick. The bill was large :( ...so much for catching up and having extra money in the bank. What a bummer.

The repair man told me that they service these furnaces every year and this could have been avoided....good to know, but a little late. So I guess I should have it serviced and cleaned each year so this doesn't happen again. Plus he said the kind of filters I was using cause the motor problems. So he showed me what kind of filter would keep it in top condition, and even gave me a free one to get me started until I can get over to Home Depot to grab some more. And they will give me a little reminder each year when it is due for service (which is soooo much cheaper than a new motor).

This was my attempt to do a Christmasy design. I didn't really have a plan, I was just winging it....as they say. I think I failed, this looks more Eastery to me. Oh well, I'm still gonna sport it for two or three days.....cuz I can!!!! LOL

Daycare parents annoyed me today

Today I had the privilege of watching the sun rise over Mount Rainier (see pic). As pretty as it was, I would have rather been under the covers still even though I can't sleep, but I had two daycare kids scheduled to start at 6am and 7am...so up I got. Well, needless to say, I was more than annoyed that nobody showed up OR called!

So both of them called me eventually.

The 6am person called at 11:50am...she has been removed from my schedule. I'm sorry, there is no excuse for that. Bye bye...please find alternate childcare for tomorrow, thanks.

The 7am person called at 8:30am, which I did not appreciate either after it sounded like she knew the night before that she wouldn't be coming... but I would like to keep this one as a client. So I politely told her that she is required to call within a half hour next time, as it is my policy to remove no call/no shows from my schedule without further notice.

I get very attached to the kids, but I don't plan on being a door mat for the parents. Am I being too hard on these people??? Is it that hard to call if you will not be showing up???

I am thankful to be spending the day chillin' at the house with the kids. We popped the turkey in the oven, made the cherry cheesecake, got all the other goodies ready to go, and we are all set for an afternoon of loafing around the house watching movies and playing games. :)

Vanessa went to a David Choi concert

My little girl is getting all grown up. Vanessa recently went to her first concert, she went to see David Choi with some friends. He plays guitar and sings. She met him and had her guitar signed. I thought that was very cool.

So this week I gave the kids a wish book from Sears and asked them to cut out some pictures of things they might like for Christmas so I can get started early this year. Then I can just get a few things here and there. :)

Surprising how much you don't know about your kids until you ask...

Mark Jr likes to play guitar with Vanessa. She got one for her birthday last June and really likes to play it and make up songs. They sang me a song they made up the other day called 'clam chowder'. :) Vanessa taped it...I should see if I can load it on here, haha.

Leah is a little artist and avid reader. She likes to watch 'chick flicks' haha. She is always busy creating something for someone. :)

Awesome Halloween!!!

We had an awesome Halloween. This is Vanessa and her pumpkin :)

She stayed home to hand out candy this year, but she had so much fun carving up her pumpkin.

I took the other kids (pics are coming soon) to a Halloween party. Then we trick-or-treated around their neighborhood...we got rained on, we got HAILED on, but we kept going...they had so much fun. Then we had a little after party for the kids and they had cupcakes. After that we headed back to our neighborhood and trick-or-treated some more! Then, when they had enough running around we headed back to the house for hot chocolate and turned on the fireplace.....aaaahhhhhh :)

The kids were making piles with candy, sorting candy, trading candy, eating candy, LOL. I think they will have a supply of candy for a very long time. I am so glad they had fun. We will be ready to do it all again next year! :)

Daycare Parents

When I first started the daycare they told me that the hardest part would be working with the parents. So far I have been very lucky to have super great parents to work with that appreciate and understand what I do for them. They pay on time...they do not make me remind them.

.....BUT today I found out what that statement was all about. I have a contract that officially states my policies on when payment is due and I have a parent that thinks she can slide by without following the policies that are clearly stated in the contract. So I have talked to the State Licensor about this, she came to the house to talk with me, and I did give this parent a letter. We will see how it turns out.

I really don't expect her to show up tomorrow because she was NOT happy. She is going to call the referral service back and talk to them, but that will not change my policy. The referral service has nothing to do with policies set by home daycare owners... And I already talked to the State Licensor so I know my options.

It's too bad, really. The little boy is a doll ...AND he eats his veggies. I will hate to see him go because he is such a good little guy, but I will not deal with parents who don't follow my policies and don't want to (or can't) pay their bill on the designated day...then get angry about the late fee which was also clearly stated on the contract.

...so today I am sad, worried, annoyed, and almost ready to yell NEXT!!! But I did leave it up to her wheather she wants me to take him off the schedule. Time will tell, I guess.

Saw the movie: Jennifer's Body

Vanessa and I went to the movie "Jennifer's Body" tonight. I love scary movies and this one was great. The listing says it's a horror/comedy but it was more horror...I'm not sure I would call it a comedy. Either way, we both enjoyed it.

Last month we saw "Drag me to hell". That one was so scary/funny I think we will buy the DVD. lol ....here kitty, kitty, kitty ....hahaha

Trip to Chuck E Cheese

Well, we made a few bucks at the garage sale. And we used the loot for a fun trip to Chuck E Cheese. The kids had a great time and I got to relax a little while they were off playing games. I watched the Packers game while I was there....my team won....yeah! I an not a huge fan, it was just something to watch while I was relaxing.

We all tried out a new machine they have that makes cute ID cards with your picture on them. Then we had one extra token so we all squeezed in for the last one and the hip hop dancer card came out...lol

Gearing up for a garage sale

School has started for us here and I have been cleaning out closets and getting things organized. We have a lot of stuff I don't need anymore, so I have decided to have a garage sale. Usually when we do a garage sale we use the money for a trip to Chuck E Cheese. So it should be a fun sale, the kids said they would help with setup and take turns being cashier.

I will let you know how it goes. :)
