Today, my grandfather passed away. My husband and I were able to be there to spend Christmas with him yesterday. Pawpaw was so happy to be home and have his family there. We all know he loved good food and he had it on Christmas day too! The family just moved him home to be on hospice. All he really wanted was to go home. He was truly happy and told us so. I'm so glad he died happy.
I know that one day, I'll see him in Heaven again. That is the ultimate comfort, I suppose. He was a great grandfather. I spent much of my childhood at his house. As the oldest grandchild, he always wanted to make sure the boys didn't come around and steal his grandbaby. He was okay with Greg, though. He loved that Greg was in the Navy. He was very proud of that and had many Navy memories to share. He also told me not to eat too many pickles or I'd turn into one and to stay sweet like him.
I would be lying if I said that I didn't miss him. I do. But I am so very glad that he is not hurting anymore. He has been in poor health for a very long time. So it wasn't unexpected, but it still hurts.
Some may say a death this close to Christmas would spoil the holiday. But in our case, I think it just made Christmas all that more special. We spent a memorable day enjoying Christmas with Pawpaw. He was happy and we loved making him happy. I will always remember him around Christmastime in a happy way.
Please pray for my family right now. I know some members of the family are taking it especially hard. Pray for comfort for them. I know Pawpaw joins many family and friends' relatives this year. It seems that 2009 has been a hard year for many. I think of and pray for all of those I know personally who have lost a loved one. May 2010 be so much better!
As far as I know, the funeral will be held at Trident Baptist Church on Wednesday at 2 pm. For anyone who knew him, you are welcome to come. Should things change, I will update.

Today I am joining several carnivals and showing off my Christmas decorations for this year. We change our colors every year and this year it is purple, white, and silver. I love it! It feels so elegant. :)
We also had a lot of fun putting it up. It's always nice to have the hubby home and able to help decorate! It makes a fun date night. :) I'm warning you now, we are total goofballs! Enjoy!

Why I love my Husband!

For this Thanksgiving, I wanted to concentrate on how thankful I am for my husband. He is the greatest man on earth! :) I took some time to create a list of 100 reasons I love my wonderful hubby. It is in random order. This list is very specific to our marriage. So some of the things I list may not make sense or mean much to someone else, but they mean the world to me! Honey, I love you and am very thankful God put you in my life!

1. He warms me up! Especially my cold feet.

2. He is completely trustworthy.

3. He tries new things for me!

4. He fills my gas tank for me.

5. He sticks close to me in a crowd.

6. He helps me cook.

7. He plays with the dogs.

8. He kisses me before leaving every morning.

9. He brings me stuff from the kitchen when I’m too lazy to get out of bed to get
it myself.

10. He buys me jewelry from every port.

11. He spoils me ROTTEN!

12. He pops my back when it hurts.

13. He gives me massages.

14. He indulges my need to decorate for the holidays. A different

bands with the diamonds on it!

dorks!

68. He pays for things in the store so I don’t have to carry around
my heavy purse.

69. He plays his DS in the car if I’m driving, so he doesn’t comment
on how wild a driver I am.

70. He cleans up dog messes without complaint.

71. He drives in high traffic areas and downtown places that I
hate to drive in.

72. He always tells me what is going on at work and what to expect
as soon as he knows something.

73. He loves his video games, but he always makes sure I am doing
something else and not feeling ignored.

74. He sleeps so peacefully. I love to try and tickle him when he’s
asleep and see what he remembers in the morning! :P

75. He is not opposed to doing dishes.

76. He knows my little preferences. For example, I love roses, but I
really don’t care for red roses.

77. He will take the time to just relax outside on the hammock
with me.

78. He sometimes will take a dare from me. I’m pretty adventurous
and encourage him to be. lol

79. He knows everything there is to know about me and still loves
me!

80. He never complains!

81. He loves to bowl with me.

82. He loves to play pool with me. And even lets me win sometimes.

83. He bought me my lovely yellow car.

84. He likes mostly the same things I do. That creates a beautiful
harmony in a marriage. And we both have fun!

85. He trusts me. In our deploying world, that’s really something.
He completely trusts me to be faithful and to handle money
well and I honor him by doing so.

86. He makes me laugh…hard sometimes!

87. He totally makes fireworks dance around in my head!

88. He loves my hair and doesn’t mind whether I want to cut or let
it grow out. He loves it both ways and it’s totally my decision.

89. He is very comfortable to be around. He feels like home.

90. He loves the same types of music that I do. We can rock out in
the car and have a good time! ;)

91. He lets me vent and understands that I just need to get it all
out to feel better.

92. He listens to me…when there isn’t flashing objects around! :P

93. He does his own ironing and sometimes mine too!

94. He is honest.

95. He is strong! He can outlast me by a lot when we exercise!

96. He gives me his sweet corn when we go to Chili’s. Yum!

97. He is always willing to help me make our bed. The duvet covers
are so hard to do by ones’ self! He makes it easier.

98. He kisses me right after he shaved. He knows I love it and the
smell of his shaving cream.

99. He loves to help me count pennies! :D

Senior Shoot out

For our seniors on the go activity in October, we had a shoot out and pumpkin carving contest. It was a really fun day. :) We have been having more and more people come to our meetings and that is so encouraging. I started doing activities with the senior citizens right after I graduated college. For the longest time we only had 4 or 5 come. When I moved to GA, I wasn't sure I could keep doing it. But my mom stepped in and helped. She's a fantastic people person and she keeps up with paperwork so well. She has built it up to about 20 people coming to regularly! She's awesome! I prefer doing background work, like cooking and decorating for dinners. That's just me! Anyway, here's the pictures.

Greg's 30th Birthday Blowout!

Greg finally got some time off and we went to Orlando for almost a week. It was so much fun! I invited all of our family members and some friends to come down to join us for the weekend. We celebrated Greg's 30th birthday at Aquatica with everyone. This was my first time ever going to Disney World! Of course, I have pictures! We went to 5 parks in 3 days! It was certainly a whirlwind!

We started with the Magic Kingdom. It was really hot for October, but we had fun.

Thanks to the miracle of Dramamine, Greg went on EVERY ride with me! I was so excited to share the thrill of the rides. Here, we tested the abilities of the drugs on the twirling teacups!

The park was gorgeous! It was decorated for the fall and Halloween. I really enjoyed it. There's just something about the start of the holiday season that makes me feel giddy and as excited as a little girl again. :)

Then we went to Epcot.

We got to try out the segways. They are awesome! I enjoyed riding it.

We went to Animal Kingdom the next day. I love me some animals! We went on a safari and I took some pics of my favorite animals. :)

The next day, we went to Universal's Island of Adventure. We rode sooo many rides! This is the Dr. Seuss carousel. It's so colorful!

Since it was October, we also celebrated Mark's 23rd birthday.

We went to Aquatica on that Saturday, but we took pics with an underwater camera. So I haven't gotten that developed yet. On Sunday, we went to Seaworld before we headed home. It was awesome! I loved playing with my camera during the shows. I love to see how fast I could capture a jump. :)

It's been quite awhile since I've blogged. Ugh. I have itty bitty things to blog about but nothing screams blog post! lol So I've gathered everything to put in this post.
First we'll start with what else I've not been keeping up with. I think I may have a few too many magazine subscriptions or it may be that I just don't read enough.

Next, it's been raining a lot here in GA. One day it got really dark in the house. So I peeked out the back door. The sky was really red cast. There was a huge full rainbow! I tried to capture what I could with my camera. I lightened the full bow so you can see the whole arch. The other pic is how the sky actually looked. It was beautiful.

I got a new nightstand a couple of days ago. I had a fun 2 1/2 hours putting it together. :D It's always a challenge to put together stuff, but the parts on this thing were not labeled! I managed with pictures, though. I love how much extra space it gives me. And it matches the rest of our furniture at a third of the cost!

Lastly, Greg and I have taken up a new hobby. Tennis! We went for the first time a week or two ago. We had a great time and really enjoyed laughing at ourselves. The first serve I made was like I was hitting a baseball out of the park! I slowly learned the weight of the ball and how hard to hit it. We are waiting until it gets cooler to go again because I almost passed out from the heat. But we did manage to take pics. :)

We are going to be taking family pictures really soon. So I'll be sure to share with you!

Happy 30th to my Hubby!

Last Thursday, my wonderful husband celebrated his 30th birthday. We had a small party with the few friends that were in town. Greg was able to get off a couple hours early (during the daylight!). Whoo Hoo! We went swimming and then had the traditional birthday pizza. Greg wanted mint chocolate brownies for his birthday cake. So a good time was had by all. We plan to have a much bigger celebration in October, when Greg will have a little vacation time...or at least a weekend free of work! We've invited friends and family to go to Aquatica with us. That's where Greg really wants to go! I can't wait to go and have fun with everyone. :)

A couple of weeks ago, Greg and I had the privilege of attending my cousin Ricky's wedding. It was very beautiful. I really enjoy weddings. I especially enjoy taking pictures at weddings. I always hope to capture one or two pics that the bride and groom would love. I like to try to get some pics that the hired photographer might not have caught. My Nephew's Visit

A couple of weeks ago, my 7 year old nephew visited us for a week. We thought it would be a good experience for us and fun for him. I will be honest, I was not prepared for the hours! Whew! I don't want to be a mamma anytime soon. I have to get used to being up early first. Greg did a wonderful job of keeping him entertained! They were buddies all week. Thankfully for me, Greg was off.
We discovered that Sean likes water parks and loves to learn how to make stuff in the kitchen. We made a rainbow cake and had so much fun. We went to a water park four days in a row. I do think that is the most Greg and I have been in the sun in about a year! We all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly! You know I have pictures!

Sean loves music and he loves to sing. He entertained himself during the car ride and amused Greg and I. :)

Overall, it was a good visit. We learned a lot of things about ourselves and kids. We enjoyed thinking up ways to have fun. And Greg and I got out of the house a lot more during the week. I will probably be willing to do another visit during a summer. The only rule is that Greg must at least be in the States for our visit. :)

Mrs. Brown celebrated her 80th birthday the same day as my birthday. We decided to celebrate big by taking her to California Dreaming. She is such a sweetheart to be around and such a happy person. I can only aspire to be like her when I'm a senior citizen! :)

Tea Plantation

Okay, so we all know that summer is super busy. Even though I don't have kids, somehow my summer still speeds up. Since I'm struggling to keep up with reading my blogs, I'm sure many of my readers are too! But if I don't document some of these, they won't get into my book at the end of the year. :)
Last month, we took our senior citizens' group to the American Tea Plantation. A great time was had by all! I was just enjoying having Greg home. We have several pics and took advantage of the lovely scenery.

New Car

Happy Birthday, Anniversary, and Merry Christmas to my wonderful hubby! We finally found him a Ford to replace his Grand Am. I think my family finally considers him part of the family now! lol :)

This is the beauty that we bought. And yes, it's his car. I love it a lot, but he was the one we were buying it for. We drove up to Charleston last weekend to get it.
It's a 2005 Ford Mustang in Metallic Mint Green.

I'm so excited! Greg even lets me drive it! Speed Demon and all! lol :)

On a side note, this is my 100th post. What an exciting life!

Birthday

Today is my 25th birthday! I was so spoiled this year. :) My wonderful husband decided to give me a spa day since I loved my anniversary day so much. I got my hair trimmed up, a mani/pedi and a couples massage. It was wonderful!
Then I got a how to book for my camera. I hope this will help me understand how to manually use my camera. My camera works really well on automatic, but I want to expand my knowledge.

Greg also bought me Corel Paint Shop Pro for my photo editing. I'm not even close to figuring out all the elements in this program! But there are a lot of wonderful things to do with pics in it.

My parents totally surprised me with this for my birthday! They said they didn't want me to forget that, even though I live in Georgia, I'm still a Carolina girl!

Lions, Tigers, and Bears...Oh My!

Going to Busch Gardens and the zoo are two of the greatest joys in my life! I absolutely looooove animals! It's a passion that I will one day work with. But for now, I am content being a military wife. If you haven't been to Busch Gardens, you must go! They have the best animal enclosures and they interact with their animals during park hours. What's more...they have roller coasters there too! What's not to love?
While we were on vacation we went to Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, and parasailing in the Isle of Palms, SC. It was a fabulous mini vacation!

You know I have pictures to share! Here they are in the same sequence we experienced them. :)

First we visited the Gorillas and Monkeys at BG.

Since there were a lot of kids in the monkey place, we decided to go back later for more pics. We moved on to the Flamingos! They are so tall!

Since it was springtime, there were a lot of animals getting their "spring" on. Like these two reptiles. lol

We visited the hippos. Hippos are my absolute favorite! They are so very graceful in the water and cute too! We posed with these replicas, since it was quite hard to get a pic of the real thing. There were a lot of people there!

We caught the elephants just as the trainers started working with them. I was able to get some pics of them doing tricks. So adorable!

There is just something about white tigers that is magical. They're beautiful.

Look at those paws...they're huge! We were actually able to get this close. BG had a glass enclosure that you could pop your head into to look at the "baby" tigers.

I'm back! The last two weeks have been absolutely amazing! Greg and I have done a lot of traveling and had a lot of adventures. I'll post about them as soon as I organize the pics.

When Greg was on deployment, they had a port call in Greece. My hubby has made a habit of buying me a necklace and a set of earrings from every country he visits. This time he picked up this gorgeous set of silver. He has such good taste and I love wearing what he picks for me! So here's my pics. :)

How cool is that? The Navy decided to return my wonderful hubby on Military Spouse Appreciation Day! Whoo hoo! The boys and I are thrilled to finally have him home! :)

My Deployment Project

Every time Greg goes out to sea, I work on a deployment project. This time it was painting my kitchen. It doesn't look too bad, but it's not my favorite room. The design plan kept changing because I wasn't sure what I wanted. All I knew is that I wanted a green kitchen. So without further ado...here's my pics.

Strawberry picking

Our church's Seniors on the Go ministry went strawberry picking and to a bbq lunch last Saturday. We had a great time! There were a lot of strawberries and we really enjoyed the bbq. Here's some pics from our outing.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I thought I didn't have anything to post about, but I found several sets of pics that I've neglected to write about. So I will be catching up in the next 2 weeks.

Today's post is about my post deployment dress. I have been looking for that perfect outfit to greet my wonderful hubby in. I found this one at JCP. I actually paid $25 for a dress! I wouldn't have if it weren't a special dress. :) I am very, very excited.

Let me know what you think! Should I wear this necklace with it or something else? I also think I'm going to cut the tulle at the bottom off. It's itchy and if I'm sweating in the GA heat, it won't be comfy. What do you think?

Hoppy Easter Sonday!

Hello all! I hope you guys had a fabulous Easter. Although from what I've been reading lately, a lot of you are sick! I'm trying to stay healthy in the home stretch. It would me my luck I'd get sick the last week in SC, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
The boys got smaller easter baskets this year. With Greg gone, I guess I just wasn't in the spirit. But I did dress up, go to church, and take pictures. Daddy likes pics of the boys. I'm thinking about getting Montgomery and Melbourne shirts that say "Welcome Home, Daddy" on them. I think Greg would laugh! He's cool with me dressing the boys up as long as I stay away from the bows!
Anyway, here's the pics from yesterday. It was a lot harder to get them organized for the pics this year. Usually they will listen to Greg better. We had quite a few out takes! :)

First, we went to see my grandpa in the nursing home after church. He broke his leg a few weeks ago, so he's just waiting on it to heal and go home.

Our Second Wedding Anniversary

Today is our wedding anniversary. My baby is still out to sea, but he sent me an email! I love his emails! That was the best present I could get right now! Despite my wonderful husband being gone, I had the best day ever! The only way it could have been better is having my husband's boat come in. :) A girl can dream, can't she?

Today I had a:

Well my day started off with sleeping in and cuddling with my boys. It was a cold night last night and they slept right next to me, keeping me warm! Then I went to get my hair cut. I got it highlighted a year and a half ago. I've been growing it out enough to just cut it out. I don't want to mess with my overall color. It's definitely short!
Here's a few before pics. In the green, my hair is mostly straight and you can see how long it was. In the black, it's styled like normal-curly.

Here's the result! I'm still getting used to it. I'll have to play with it to figure out the best style.

Then I went to the thrift store. Y'all, it was a special day...I HAD to go to the thrift store! ;) Here's what I got.

Then I went to my favorite restaurant for my favorite meal:

After finishing a fabulous meal, I went to get a massage. Ohhhhh, how relaxing. I felt like melted butter afterwards. Everyone should get a professional massage!

After that, I went to get a manicure and pedicure. I went back and forth trying to decide whether I wanted a color or a french polish. Since I could do a color myself, I went with a French mani/pedi. It's so wonderful to be pampered. :)
