I went to IKEA the other day and decided to use the self checkout.  BIG mistake!  I don’t know if it’s because we’re not practiced at using this kind of system, but it took much longer to execute and was pretty much a pain in the arse.  When there was an error (first caused by me but then complicated by a staff member) and I needed to be credited, correcting it involved leaving the checkout and visiting another part of the store to be refunded.  Quite protracted.

What’s been your experience?  Are self service checkouts are time waster or a time saver?

Kathryn and I recently took a road trip to Adelaide for some sorting.  On the way over, the afternoon sun was hitting Kathryn’s face and causing problems with her vision, so we came up with this novel use of my new post it notes:

It worked a treat!  And being repositionable, we moved it as necessary!

SORTED! has been translated into two languages.  You will find a repackaged version in Italy and Indonesia. Given they are countries both starting with the letter I, I’m guessing Iceland is next.

The cover of the Indonesian version features a quote from Cosmopolitan magazine which I’ve successfully translated with the help of Babel Fish -

“Olivers methods it was guaranteed facilitated your life’”.

I love how bad that sounds!

Ringo Star has similar sentiments.  Some time ago, he called for a stop to all mail from fans.  Peace and Love he said, but please, no presents, no fan mail, no requests for autographs.  Peace and Love, but no more.  The days are short and there is still so much to do.
