Is your email list building looking like a bank with no money? Do you have the perfect lead-capture page but nobody buys from your emails?

It is not your fault. It is not the lead capture page either. The people you’re looking after might not be ready to spend money yet. In fact, they might not be used to, or afraid to order.

A research type article I recently read tells that “Blog Readers Spend More Time and Money Online”

The blogosphere is big like planet Earth… and its readers are encouraged to spend more time and money online than web users who don’t read blogs.

Did you ever think you’re attracting the wrong lead on your list?

Did you ever imagine that some people are used to join lists while others are not?

Let’s take this further. Did you know that some people buy online often, while others are scared to even think about using their card on the web?

What are the chances to make money from your email list building when you’re attracting the wrong crowd [for e.g. people afraid to buy, not used to, or even worse, not having the money]?

Can you imagine learning the “secret” to building lists that add more money in your pocket?

How is your life and business going to change when you have learned how to turn your list into a fully functional ATM machine that you can withdraw cash from even at 3 A.M.?

For most entrepreneurs building an email list is Chinese. They do not understand the list building game, yet they want to play in the pro league and make money.

First of all, if you have an ATM machine, it doesn’t mean it’ll spit cash at you on auto-pilot. You’d need a card that has money on it, then you’d have to type in your PIN to actually get the cash, right.

Then why the so-called “gurus” fools us into thinking that list building makes us money with no effort?

While I can’t teach you how to build your own ATM machine or learn Chinese, here’s a trick to increase your email list building profit, a simple method that guarantees short and long term responses.

Go where the money is. Do not rob a bank. Jump in the blogosphere pool.

Attract the type of people who are used to reading content and buying online:

blog readers – folks who are “trained” to browsing blogs, reading posts and clicking on links.

Why do you think small and big budget advertisers alike will run miles and fight anybody just to get their message out on other people’s blogs?

Most advertisers are throwing money down the toilet – they’re not born skilled copywriters; yet, a few select advertisers and companies know there’s money to be made in the blogosphere. They know how to write the right message for the right crowd. Getting buyers to spend cash with them is easy. Connecting the dots is harder [e.g. matching a product feature with buyers' wants and needs].

So what is the so-called “trick” guaranteed to increase your email list building profit and how can you make sure it works for you when building an email list?

Jump in the blogosphere pool. That means you would have to:

start a blog if you don’t have one yet.

accept comments and interact with your readers regularly.

link to your landing page URL often through your content

integrate “lead capture” graphics such as eCovers and banners in your

blog’s sidebar and re-direct clickers to your landing page

get involved actively on other niche related blogs and share your

feedback by blog commenting on the latest posts

The blogosphere is big like planet Earth… and most of the people who are part of it, are content readers and buyers. You can’t neglect this phenomenon.

Take full advantage of blogging and your list building is going to thrive, even in bad economy times. Probably most of your competitors know this already. Wouldn’t be nice you ride on the big wave too?

Would you like to build a list that pays your debts?

Are you dreaming of making money on the Internet and stop slaving for others?

Sick and tired of working like crazy and get little return and appreciation?

List building might be the solution you are waiting for.

Imagine having a list of 1,000+ friends [aka raving fans], ready to hear from you, and vote with their wallets. For most this is just a dream. But for a few select individuals [yours truly included] cash-getting list building is not a secret anymore.

One of the questions I get often asked about is “How do I build a list if I have little money?”

These low cost list building tips will provide you with the answer you might expect, although due diligence is required.

If something is too good to be truth, then think twice before you make your move and buy an autoresponder.

When the offer is so irresistible, stop for a moment and ask yourself the most important question:

Do I really need these additional features or I can do OK with just the basics of an autoresponder.

Today I want to cover the most important aspects of building a list when you are in financial trouble.

Let’s take a look on how to cut your costs when list building on a budget yet still take advantage of the best autoresponder features out there.

What is your list building main objective?

Why would you want to build your list?

Ok, besides making money online, capturing leads and driving traffic to your site, what is the reason behind list building?

Most people are selfish centered; start a list to make money for themselves, caring less about helping their subscribers and sending good information.

What do you plan to share with your list? What do you know that others do not? What “information” or “skill” advantage do you have over your competitors? How will you make your subscribers life easier, better or happier?

In this article – List Building Tips: What Kind of List Is Best For You? – I shared the 5 type of lists you could build and the one which could make you the most money.

If you plan to offer simple information and pre-sell affiliate products and maybe sell your own stuff, then a web hosting autoresponder might be all you need.

* The problem is that when your host is down, your list is non accessible too. Plus, you won’t get access to “advanced” features and benefits such as analytics, click & open rate tracking, etc.

If you plan to track your opens, clicks, sales and conversion, then Aweber or GetResponse might be ideal.

Tracking is important because you can’t afford to play “shot and miss” with your list. You have to know where your traffic is coming from, how good it converts, why, and more importantly, when.

If you want to know what is the best day to email your list and what is the best time for maximum open rates or clicks, then testing and tracking is the only way to know for sure.

Each niche and list is unique, so you can’t base your guess on what works in other industries or what others are claiming to work the best.

I have read of people building lists of 10,000+ subscribers and making very little or no money at all. I guess that’s because they’re not tracking properly, or at all.

I have also experienced list building death when firstly created a 1,000+ list and almost nobody clicked on my links. Later on I discovered I need to know what makes people click, how to craft subject lines that get open, and more importantly, how to track all this data. Next time, guess work is out.

That is why I think Aweber and GetResponse is the ideal solution for building a list. I am not saying they are the best, just what I know that works for me personally.

It is time for you to comment.

There is no secret, list building is about turning prospects (aka leads) into profit, day and night, on auto-pilot. Aweber and GetResponse helps you with that. But which one is better for you and more importantly why?

Read this unbiased comparison and you will find the answer you are eagerly waiting for.

In the end it is your decision to opt for an autoresponder that meets your needs.

If you are tired of low cost autoresponders that do not deliver, then I have to tell you that both services we are talking about today are dedicated to add more money in your pocket.

You already know that the money is in the list. You probably heard that some marketers [and bloggers] are making a full time living online with small lists, while others are generating thousands in cash at the bush of a button.

While most of these “stories” are made up, there are some real examples of regular folks, just like you and me, making a bunch of money through autoresponder email marketing.

For example, up to 85% of my online income comes as a direct and indirect result of list building. And I am no genius, nor have any magic skills.

But I would like to let you in on a secret – a list is like a true asset. If you know how to use it, it can make you money each month, over and over again. Just imagine one client buying from you $1, $10 and even $100 worth of products, regularly. What would this mean to you?

That is the beauty of autoresponder email marketing. Follow up. Sending content on a regular basis. Turning clients into repeat customers.

This is where AWeber and GetResponse come into play. And here is the most important thing you need to know upfront – both autoresponders have very similar features when it comes to essential email marketing – unlimited lists, unlimited messages and unlimited campaigns.

What makes the difference? What AWeber does that GetResponse does not? Or, what GetResponse has that AWeber do not?

AWeber publishes a content packed blog that makes autoresponder list owners life better. Contrary to GetResponse blog, AWeber rarely talks on recent updates and features and focus prominently on delivering email tips to boost list profitability.

If you are a big fan of html templates and rely on design in your email camapigns you should know that AWeber has 135 HTML email templates. GetResponse has 300.

>>> what GetResponse has that AWeber do not

Online Survey capability – you can capture valuable feedback from your clients to help you improve products, target campaigns and stay ahead of the competition. While AWeber does not have this option yet, I imagine they will add it soon.

The most ingenious feature I noticed at AWeber is its video thank-you page. It is responsible to boosting the sign-up rate over any other method out there. GetResponse seems to get behind on this aspect.

>>> Email deliverability and anti-spam policy

I know this is a big issue on autoresponder email marketing. AWeber seems to put more emphasize on both aspects and have more experience than their competitors.

>>> What about the price?

AWeber and GetResponse are priced almost alike at the time of writing this. Here is a tip – while GetResponse gives you a 18% discount on their yearly plan, AWeber has a 30-day trial for only $1.

As a general rule, GetResponse gets more expensive than AWeber when growing your list seize.

>>> Which is more popular amongst Internet users?

AWeber gets the most traffic (page rank 6, Alexa rank 178) and 33,100 type in Google searches versus 6,600 GetResponse.

It’s your turn now.

Which autoresponder do you use? Or, which one would you like to go with? Why?

This article exposes bloggers why focusing on FeedBurner alone is not a good idea when it comes to list building and how this affects your entire business.

Did you ever ask yourself why there are just a few select bloggers making 10x times more money than the rest of the crowd?

Hint – it is because the majority are suffering from FeedBurner (aka RSS) myopia. Yes, most of the bloggers out there know very little about list building and email autoresponder marketing. They were “trained” to deliver content by RSS. And most, if not all, are taking avantage of Google’s Feedburner service.

I have nothing against Feedburner. It is a good content distributing platform and mailing list system. The negative aspect I cannot neglect is their limit.

Feedburner is not a list builder in the real meaning. It is not a fully featured autoresponder. It helps bloggers send blog updates by email, but it cannot follow-up with their subscribers like a dedicated autoresponder does.

Little hinges swing big doors. Follow-up marketing is the little thing that makes the big difference in list building.

A blog without a list is like a car without wheels. It exists but cannot function. The sad part is that people who relay on Feedburner for list building have no clue they are leaving up to 70% of the money on the table.

Read any email marketing report. Ask any autoresponder list owner. They have come to one conclusion (through trial and error) – follow-up is key. Sending one email to your subscribers is not enough. You have to send at least 7 e-mails to close the sale. List marketing studies show that up to 80% people buy on the 7th follow-up.

If you are smart enough [since you are reading so far, there is no doubt about it] you understand why Feedburner users are getting just 20% of the money they should be making.

As a general rule of thumb – pro bloggers use both. Feedburner and a dedicated autoresponder service.

Sending blog updates via FeedBurner is one aspect of list building. Creating email capture pages for follow-up purposes is the second and more importantly – this is where you giveaway something of value (for e.g. a niche-specific PDF guide) to get your prospect’s email address and send periodical content to make his life better.

The most exciting part of using autoresponders for list building is that you have the option to broadcast stand alone emails to your entire list in advance. If you plan to get on holidays next week and do not have Internet access, all you have to do is schedule your message into your autoresponder and load it weeks in advance.

You have just “hired” an workaholic secretary that makes no coffe but delivers the messages with ease to the right recipient, while you spend time with your family. That is how autoresponders work and why they are so loved by a few select bloggers.

Email broadcasting option is missing completely from Feedburner. And that is why I think your entire business is going to suffer unless you put on your glasses and “see” what I shared with you today.

Your “myopia” is cured now.

What list building plans do you have? What will you change on your blog now that you know this?

List building is about getting more people type in their email into your web form. Here are 3 ways to capture more leads, quickly and easily. List building tips anyone can use, without spending money on advertising or risking their life.

#1 – Ask for less!

The so-called “smarty” marketers love getting into your life. Oh boy! I am not talking about cold calling. Did you ever wanted to join a free newsletter but got stuck when entering your details?

If you are like me, you have seen those “average” web forms with never ending fields such as name, e-mail, address, zip code, etc.

As a general rule of thumb, if you want to capture more leads into your web form, ask for less details. My experience proved that having just the “e-mail” field available on your form increases your subscription rate by up to 5%.

Do you know the psychological explanation behind this? People are hesitant to do business with people they do not know or trust. So asking for any other personal details beside the “anonymous” e-mail is like asking your partner to have intimate relationship on your first date.

A “daring” web form puts people off; heartbeat site exit would be their only solution.

By the way, if you are wondering why most guys do not get girls it is because they are trying to french kiss instead of hand shake.

#2 – Promise less!

The best list building advice I could give you today is to build your own lead capture page. Some call this a squeeze page because it is an offer made on the front screen only – without you having to scroll the page and type in your email address.

I would not go into details on how to build your lead capture page. There is enough material on the web. And there are a ton of software tools out there : either free, low-cost or expensive.

What I want to make you aware of is this – NEVER ever promise the moon. As you will not end up delivering it.

Just picture the “average” marketer. Bribing you with a bunch of “cool” ebooks, plus weekly marketing tips delivered to your inbox. You get instantly hooked, right? This is the unfair game 98% of all IM list builders play just to capture your e-mail. You will soon find that for every “email tips” message they are sending out, two self-promotional will follow. Within 2 weeks, the list gets bombarded with promos, one after another.

This puts a bad spin on the overall list building game and makes the entire Internet marketing scene look “scam”.

If you want to capture more leads, humans that stick with you, then you cannot put your interest over theirs.

Promise less. Give more. That is what over delivering means.

#3 – The Purple Cow

Giving away the same freebies like everybody else would never help you capture more leads. When it comes to effective lead capturing, the mouse trap is everything. Not only your gift needs to improve your prospects life in a way or another [e.g. be practical and useful] but also it has to stand out in the crowd too.

Researching is crucial. What are your competitors offering to capture leads that you do not? How can you offer a better bribe and attract more subscribers?

What if your niche industry is used to giving away PDF reports or audio lessons, would offering a video tutorial make the difference?

You bet! So, instead of offering the same stuff as everybody else, look for unique ways to package and deliver your information to wow the audience you want to attract.

There you have it. 3 easy ways to capture more leads. A simple strategy that works. Yes, it takes time and it requires effort. But guess what? If each subscriber makes you $1 a month [that is the average in most niches], is it worth your time and effort?

It is your time to speak out loud.

Which is your most successful lead capture method, or how do you plan to switch the game?

Everybody talks about building a list, but it seems only a few select individuals know how to do it the right way and more importantly, explain how you can do it too, in easy to understand terms. I’m one of the few.

What kind of list is best for you?

There are at least 5 different type of lists you can build. But did you know that only one makes the most money? I’m talking about a type of list that could put hundreds, thousands and tens of thousands into your pocket, each and every month.

Let’s analyse the 5 type of lists you could build and discover the one which could make you the most money.

List Idea #1 – Free Course

You build this list if you have a free course you want to deliver to prospects. Turning leads into profit is the main reason, but it takes time to nurture the relationship with that list, and you won’t know for sure if the product you promote is the ideal fit.

List Idea #2 – Free PDF

Most affiliate marketers and bloggers would jump on the opportunity to get their name out there and offer a free PDF report, hoping to build trust at light speed with their subscribers and make some bucks in return through affiliate links.

List Idea #3 – Free Video

This would be the ideal list building idea for authors, speakers and coaches wanting to share their knowledge and capture targeted leads.

List Idea #4 – Free Blog Updates

The majority of bloggers have RSS myopia. They can’t see a better way to capture readers and more importantly, do not understand the follow-up game.

A free blog updates list through a dedicated autoresponder service is every savvy blogger’s dream.

List Idea #5 – Product Discounts

This is the #1 reason to building a list. It brings the most money when done correctly.

What you offer is not free stuff, nor blog updates, but special product discounts on products or services you own. You can also make special arrangements with vendors and offer your list affiliate product recommendations. You receive a commission cut when someone buys from your link. All you need to do is write a short compelling product review and add your link. Let your vendor do the selling and handle customer support, while you laugh all the way to the bank.

There you have it. 5 type of lists you can build today. One of them makes you the most money.

List building tips you can take to the bank. No tricks involved.

It’s your turn to comment now.

What kind of lists do you own? Which one is your best money-maker?

P.S. Stay tuned for the next post. I talk about “how to create a free course and capture more leads”. Join the list to get free blog updates!

This week I purchased an eBook written by JoHan Mok. The cost was only $9.95. I read the book well worth the 9.95. Get it here. I did a list response test. My test was to see how responsive an old list that I got from a giveaway event two years ago would do. The list has 800 people on it.

So I decided for this test to promote JoHan’s ebook. I figured in todays economy people can’t afford the $40, $60, or $97 dollar books so let’s give them excellent content for a small price ($9.95).

The results were excellent. You have to purchase the book to be and affiliate Get it here. I turned my $9.95 into $170.00 using an old non responsive list in just 3 days.

Ok so why this test. People keep asking me how much can I make from my list. Well with this non responsive list I know I can make at least $1.00 per person over the period of a month. If I take just the three days I did the test and divide that amount by three that’s about $57.00 a day. So roughly $1700.00 a month.

If I can do this in these hard econonmic times so can you. I suggest you go and buy JoHan’s eBook Get it here. Do a test for yourself.

Being a long time student of Tellman Knudson I can tell you that he has come along way. I have copies of training materials from when he first started and they don’t come close to the updated versions he sells now. They have become so good and garnered such good testimonials that they now attact a price tag 10 times more than when I bought them.

When Tellmans List Building Club was released I had to have a look. I wanted to see if it was something that my members could really benefit from. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found inside of the club.

I expected to find the usual rehash of teleconferences turned into a product and I really entered the club with an attitude you might say. Simply because I had been so burnt by the recent rash of top marketers creating salesletters that were far superior to the actual content they were peddling. But please don’t let me get off on one of those tangets. So, yes I was plesantly surprised.

The site was very well laid out and had content for beginners all the way to the far advanced marketer. I found at that time over 120 video’s that walked you though each of the lessons that were being taught. The qaulity was far superior to any of the redcent membership sites I have reviewed.

Here is some of what I found:

Quality Articles for each of the Lessons.

Quality Video’s for each of the Lessons.

Suplemental Audios

Every month they have a 3 hour marathon call where you can ask any of the staff questions.

Lessons on every form of getting traffic to your site.

These were just some of the features.

The Listbuilding club has three pricing levels and to be honest and the real downside to the whole deal in my opion is that you only get actual contact with tellman in the top levels of the club.

That’s just me though. I always want to talk with the boss.

So is the list building club for you? Well if you a new and looking for an excellent place to get training and start making money faster then yes it’s for you. If you are an intermediate marketer and your looking to expand a little or you have never started building a list then absolutely it’s for you. If you are an advanced marketer and you want to learn more about traffic, social media or any of the advanced marketing techniques then yes it’s for you.

If you are someone who is looking for the magic pill you want to make thousands of dollars without doing any work. Yes you guessed it!! Nope it’s not for you!!

If you are the first group you should click on this link and at least read the page carefully.

Telman Knudson’s List Building Club

In this part of the lesson we are going to go into checking on competition. If you haven’t already read part one on keyword research then you should read that first. When checking on competition we first need to go to Google and in quotes type in our keyword prase in quotes. For example “Dog Training”.

First we look and see what the number of competing pages are Google glady gives us this information of on the right. It will read results 1 of 10 of about 9,500,000 for “Dog Training”. In this example we have over 9.5 million competing pages. This would not be a keyword we would want to try and grab a number one spot on as there are just too many pages.

We want to look for under 10,000 pages and the lower the better. You may be able to break these rules but you need to analyse the pages on the first page of google. Are they reference sites like about.com or wikipedia. If so you will have a very hard time beating those types of pages. You want to see if there are any hubpages, ezinearticles or squidoo pages. If so you may be able to grab a spot by doing some extra to your articles and pages.

In conclusion the king of search is Google and now that they give us the information we need to make good decisions it should become one of your favorite tools for doing keyword research.

Since Google has improved their external keyword tool it has now become my favorite way to do keyword research.

Now when I start my keyword research I’ve generally already selected a product to promote. I do it this way others like to look for the niche first then find a product but I think it’s easier to know I have something I can sell before doing all the keyword research. Of course some will say that you need to know if you can sell it first. Anyway this is how I do it.

First go to Google’s Tool

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

For the sake of an example let’s say we found an ebook on Dog Training.

So we type into the keyword research tool “Dog Training”. You want to use the broadest keyword phrase for this search because we want to discover as many keywords as we can.

When Google has come back with the results I like to click on the Advertiser link at the top twice so that it sorts by the least competition first. Now look down the list and find keywords that have 500 – 5000 searches and the competition bar is small. Now this is just the rule I use you may be able to go with more searches and more competition but I use these as my rule.

Also you want to look for keywords that you can write content about.

If your keyword phrase doesn’t bring back many results I use another trick that helps to gather a larger list. Go to Google Search and type your keyword phrase into the search box. Do not use quotes. Look for the first site that is about your phrase. Copy the link to that site and come back to the external keyword tool. This time choose get the keywords from a website and put that link in the box. Now repeat the keyword research as above this should have brought you other keyword ideas.
