It will be held on October 9-10, 2021 at the Bethlehem Fairgrounds on Route 61 in Bethlehem, Connecticut (just north of town). Applications for this year’s event are available under the “vendor info” tab. Visit our garlic cooking demonstrations, stay for a live band performance, and learn how to grow garlic at our informative lectures. Many garlic dips, spreads, cheeses, and oils will be available for purchase from our diverse garlic specialty food vendors – most offering FREE samples to try before you buy! Stop by our produce stands for fresh garlic and a variety of other fall produce. When you’re hungry, venture over to our food court. Homemade roasted garlic sausage with peppers and onions, wood fired garlic pizzas, garlic roast pork sandwiches, deep fried garlic, and garlic ice cream are just some of the items you’ll find at our food court! Bring the kids for some fun with our rides and games! We hope that you will join us in 2021!

As we're sure you're aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed almost every aspect of our daily lives. The Bethlehem Fair Board of Directors has been closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation and staying up-to-date with Executive Orders and updates from Governor Lamont.

The Bethlehem Fair is scheduled for September 11, 12, and 13, 2020. At this time, we believe that making a decision regarding the possible cancellation of the 2020 Bethlehem Fair would be premature. The Board of Directors will continue to monitor the situation, and we will be sure to update via Facebook and BethlehemFair.com once a decision is reached. We will be considering the restrictions and guidelines put in place by our government officials as well as the recommendations of the Association of Connecticut Fairs. As always, our top priority is the safety of our patrons, volunteers, and vendors.

First Annual Summer 5K + Music Festival

Proceeds from the Aug. 21 event to benefit Connecticut’s Make-A-Wish Foundation

BETHLEHEM, Conn. — The annual Highly Caffeinated 5K + Music Festival makes its debut on Saturday, August 21, at the picturesque March Farm in Bethlehem.

Hosted by Connecticut’s own Highly Caffeinated Triathlon Team, this all-day, family-friendly event brings together the best of casually competitive outdoor exercise with a celebration of great tunes from some of the top acoustic rock musicians in the country. What’s more: The whole thing is for charity, with all proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Connecticut chapter.

“We started Highly Caffeinated as a way to uplift others and give back to groups we believe in,” said event organizers Corey and Renée Durkin, the husband-and-wife founders of the triathlon team. “Make-A-Wish’s efforts to bring joy to the lives of critically ill children and their families is something we want to support in every way possible.”

The Highly Caffeinated 5K + Music Festival kicks off at 10 a.m. on Aug. 21 with a three-lap course around the rolling hills of the family-owned March Farm. The entry-level race is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Starting at noon, the music heats up from a stage right at the finish line and rocks on through 8 p.m. with performances by eight different acts.

Headlined by The Alternate Routes, the music festival also includes sets from some of the top names in acoustic rock, folk music, and more, including Chris Trapper, Seth Glier, Fast River, Brian Jarvis, Gracie Day, and The Penniless Wild.

“I’m honored to share the stage with such an amazing group of artists,” said Trapper, a prolific singer-songwriter whose songs have been featured in There’s Something About Mary, The Devil Wears Prada, and other major releases. “It feels like we’re bringing the Hotel Cafe from L.A. or Rockwood Music Hall from New York right to the Litchfield Hills!”

Food and drink vendors on-site will include The Mobile Pub, Frankie’s Hot Dogs, Rebel Dog Brewing Co., and other local favorites.

Tickets start at $35 for the 5K only, $45 for the music festival only, and $40 for combined admission while children under the age of 16 are free. Entry fees for 5K participants include chip timing, custom bibs, race awards, and a post-race beer from The Mobile Pub. ANNOUNCING THE 1ST ANNUAL LITCHFIELD HILLS CREATIVE FESTIVAL

August 14, 2021 in Downtown Torrington, CT

NORTHWEST CT, JULY 2021 -- The NWCT Arts Council is hosting the first annual Litchfield Hills Creative Festival on Saturday, August 14th in Downtown Torrington. The festival will include artist vendors at Franklin Plaza, live music at Coe Memorial Park, open artist studios, and many other public activities for all ages hosted by participating organizations and venues.

The Litchfield Hills Creative Festival is sponsored by Torrington Savings Bank, The Matthews Group, Republican-American, WSHU Radio Station, and the Torrington Downtown Partners.

A variety of local artists and artisans will hold booths at Franklin Plaza with art for sale from 11 am to 4 pm.

Live music at the Main Stage in Coe Memorial Park is sponsored by Red Room Sound Studio and the Warner Theatre. The setlist will begin with performances by Mike Cobb, the Write Offs, and the Red Hots, and end with a headlining performance by Corey Glover of Living Color and Friends. The Warner Theatre will hold two early afternoon performances of The Stinky Cheese Man for children and families. Headlining performance sponsored by Flying Key Entertainment, LLC / Red Room sound Studio, Cook Funeral Homes, AKC Fund, and the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation Building Healthier Communities Fund. This coming August, the Podunk Bluegrass Music Festival will celebrate its 24th year with one of its most outstanding line-ups to date. The 2021 festival will run from Thursday, August 12th through Sunday, August 15th.

One Good Thing: The Amazing Tabasco Yellow Jacket Repellant Secret

This tip came from a restaurant upstate that I went to last autumn. They had a really bad infestation of yellow jackets bothering all the dining tables, and one of the staff members had this tip and suggested they try it. It worked. When we sat down at our table we saw a little dish of tabasco on our table and thought it was a condiment of some kind. Not at all. The restaurant had been putting them out for just a few days and all the yellow jackets were staying away. Problem SOLVED!

Simple Things You Can Do This Weekend to Ward Off Pests (And Really Enjoy Your Spring)

This spring has the most new-start-energy of any I’ve ever lived. We’re all itching to clean off our patio furniture, spruce up the porch with vibrant florals, and bask in the renewed hope only warm spring sunshine can coax from our dormant hearts and, this year, honestly, lives.

Being outdoors, in the sun, amongst the trees that still bud and blossom, listening to the birds who sing in blissful ignorance of this past year, and tapping into the general sense that life goes on is just the ticket for emerging from our long, dark winter.

Such a spring like no other is one we want to wash over us completely. But we can’t if we’re swatting at mosquitoes, hopping away from spiders, or fleeing wasps. Let’s take some time to make sure this doesn’t happen.

This Weekend: Prepare your home for pest control.

There are many ways to protect your home from unwanted pests. Since spring is when many bugs emerge from overwintering, it’s just the right time to get ahead of the curve and keep them from encroaching on our human spaces.

Here are a few suggestions, no matter your preferred pest-prevention methods:

Check your stock of pest control supplies. If sprays like Raid help you feel safe, make sure you’re in supply. If you opt for less toxic solutions, make sure your stock of diatomaceous earth is ready to go. And if you prefer to catch and release, get your jar and piece of paper handy.
Seal holes and cracks. Check around your house to block points of ingress. This can include repairing holes in screens or blocking entry points for ants, spiders, or beetles.
Buy citronella candles to ward off mosquitoes or invest in a set of decorative tiki torches that double as pest repellants.
Call your county and ask if they can spray your yard for mosquitoes or concoct your own mosquito yard spray.
Schedule your pest control appointments for termites, spiders, etc.
Spray white vinegar around your windows to deter spiders.
Make sure your kitchen is clean of crumbs that attract critters. Don’t forget the pantry and under the stove!

You don’t have to tackle all of it this weekend, but if you’re able, do one thing to prepare yourself for a pest-free spring.

NORTHWEST CT, APRIL 2021 -- The NWCT Arts Council is hosting the 4th annual Make Music NWCT this summer, Monday, June 21st, 2021. Make Music Day is an international celebration of live music that takes place on the summer solstice of each year. People of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to create music at participating venues all over the region. All performances are free and open to the public.The NWCT Arts Council is proud to host this event in the region again, after three successful Make Music Day events in 2018 - 2020.

Make Music NWCT registration is now open for venues and musicians across Northwest CT at nw-ct.makemusicday.org. Venues are strongly encouraged to register as soon as possible, and start promoting their participation in this event. Musicians can register and begin requesting to schedule performances at participating venues.

Every President’s Day Weekend, the Great Backyard Bird Count takes place, coordinated by The Cornell Lab of Ornithology and The National Audubon Society, among others.

February 11, 2021 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Want to take part in this nationwide citizen science effort? It’s easy! Join us for a brief, family-friendly lesson on how to identify some common birds that visit our yards and feeders during winter. Then, we’ll walk you through how to officially record your observations on the eBird website.

Once you’ve completed the class, you’ll be all set to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, or submit your birding observations to eBird all year long. 2pm. This free virtual program will be hosted in Zoom and simulcast on Facebook Live.
