The little one is quite curious about the future – especially the one concerning hers and her brother. She once asked: “Do I really have to move out when I grow up?”. Adorable. Oh, and everything’s supposed to happen in order mind you; first her bigbrother, then her.

The Almanac-collection is truly one of my faves from this round of CHA. Along with yuko. And Songbird. And Sun Kiss. And Doodle-Deux, even though I can’t seem to be satisfied with anything I create with this collection which I instantly adored. Hrmf. Yeah. And Fairy Belle and Nature Garden too are on the “like very much”-side as well. Hrm. Got sidetracked, sorry. Love the Almanac collection, and love that it’s the feminine counterpart to Printery (which’s from CHA-S from last year) and thus is great to mix with.

I really like the pink-peach-salmonish hues combined with the harsh blackness in this collection. And spot the pins? Or the bauble? Loves’em.

Even added some stamping directly on the patterned paper! go brave me ;p

Tutorial: Love tag

I love challenges. I truly do.
But sometimes the challenges are ridiculous. Like the Maya Road one where we were only allowed to use seven – 7 – various MR products. Yes. Seven only.
Initially you may think: Oh, seven products. To create one tag? Easy peasy, that’s almost a bit too many products. I know I did when the challenge was presented to us. I mean, you’re supposed to do just a little tag, no? But do not be fooled. It’s such a limitation and I had to be tough and drop a LOT of stuff. No fair! SIGH!

This is what I did:

I gathered a number of MR-products I thought would fit this challenge. We could use a few freebies, like ONE sheet of patterned paper (only one though!), staples, punches – basic tools mostly and hardly any extra product.

After much back and forth & lots of pain and stuff I ended up with these items:

Additionally I used a sheet of paper from Crate Paper, Mod Podge, white and turquoise embossing powder, tulle, staples and white gesso. I *so* wanted to use at least two or three more products, but sigh. A challenge is a challenge I guess!

I so love this technique after seeing Ronda Palazzari demonstrate it for uh, CK or something like that a while ago. Currently I’m using archival ink – jet black – it’s moist enough for this purpose. StazOn, which’s my to-go-permanent-stamp-pad, doesn’t work well for this purpose…at least not the pads I have, maybe it’s too old (like, dried too much??) Dunno. Nevertheless. I’m impressed w/how precise and fine prints you can get even on a surface like canvas. Then again. I’m easily impressed =) Right.

The kids found this Tim Holtz hammer the other day. “Mom, that’s a weird-looking hammer”. Figured I should use it,haven’t used it too much since I bought it. Typical. Not sure why I bought it in the first place either, but hey. Yields fun textures when you remember you have such a tool =).

Right. Dilute the mist w/ a little bit of water and paint the color on stuff. Vary the intensity of the color w/mist & water.

Staple the tulle to the embossed tag, attach stuff, curse that you can’t use more than 7 MR products ‘cause a pin or a ribbon would be awesome to add to the butterfly…

Then figure out an alternative way to have something in the middle of the butterfly..like cutting a triangle of paper,

…add mod podge and roll it into a paper bead and let dry…

Before attaching it to the tag. Once again; a pin would be perfect to have inside the paper bead, sticking out from it, but ahwell. Consider the challenge met!

Thinking inside the box…

This month my challenge over at the 3ndypapir-blog is about the winter; create something that is about/looks/feels winterish. I altered a box which I’m not quite sure what to use for atm…but it sure looks pretty!

I even covered the insides w/patterned paper…maybe I’ll find some kind of gift that’ll fit inside, or I’ll buy a bag of wrapped chocolate so I can fill the tray..whatever – now I have the perfect box for whatever winterish situation.

I used papers from 3ndypapir and embellishments from (mostly) Maya Road bare the rub-ons (old Jenni Bowlin-ones – as smooth as butter still!) & white, fluffy flower from Pink Paislee.

To make the box more wintery I added crackle paint to the chipboards. Look. Pretty, eh?

I have one more that I need to decorate :)

The kids got one each of these googles, and I thought the box looked fairly sturdy and nice.

Covering it with pretty paper’s pretty quick and easy too, just make sure you cover all the surfaces, measure it right & roll on the adhesive (I just used my glue glider w/the perma-tac cartdrige, since I wasn’t going to add any moist to the box…like adding mist and stuff).

Lovely photos and your cards from the last post were beautiful-- very elegant. I'm definitely going to get a d800, just don't know if I want to get the d800e version...

From what I’ve initially read, I think the D800 is a more safe bet for me personally. Will certainly watch the reviews close when they start popping up on the web to learn more about the specifics and how stuff actually works when in use! My big question is whether the D800 is a big enough upgrade for me who has D700 (apart from the obvious: it can do video..and well..it does seem way superior :p). And of course I’m drooling over a D4, but sigh, it IS a lot of money and probably (or well, I know it is!) more than I’ll ever need… atm…but still…you sort of always want the best, no? :p Looking through some older photos today I realized how little I actually photograph these days when not at work, I sorta was like “oh right, I used to be good at this”. UGh! And I interviewed an old-time-photographer the other day, one who’s been a photographer for like 40 years and who now is retired…he said something along the lines of “finally the work has become a hobby/passion once again”…hrm! (oook…I’m starting to feel a bit moody/nostalgic now, sorry!)

You should stroke the paper with pad before stamping - it will prevent powder to stick.

Ooh..yes..that’s the one! Do you have one yourself? Does it actually work well?
I also got an advice saying to just buy a common microfiber cloth, one that you use for cleaning up…but it didn’t seem to work that well..hm…maybe I bought the wrong kind come to think of it, hmm..

Last weekend we dropped by my sis in Oslo (actually, we just wanted to use her Jacuzzi & celebrate my dads bday). Staying with her was just conventional. I love her house. Not only does she have nice taste & manages to keep the house tidy and all, she’s also darn lucky having amazing lightning coming in the huge, nice windows creating the most amazing light making snapping photos (when facing the windows) like a dream. *sigh* I’m jealous!

This is my littlesis and her son. Those eyes! The firm grip he has on her ear! Bwahaha. Cuteness.

This is my oldest son. He loves to read – and am now on the third & last book about The Hunger Games. I’ve read the books myself, and yes indeed – it’s no big literature, but it does what it’s supposed to do – spellbind young (and older) readers, enticing them into reading more. Love such books! He does not really want to watch the upcoming movie though – and I understand him. There might be gory scenes. Like how Katniss reaches for the silver bow (or something like that?)? Bwahaha. We’ll see. I’m gonna watch it for sure! *grin*

Like I said. Gorgeous light. A quick photosession is like, mandatory when having such light!

Add silly kids..

I do wish my sis was sensible enough to have a larger area of white wall built though. I simply do not understand how she did not think about that when they built the house like, two years ago or something like that!?!? *sigh*

Oh, it’s the baby! And my stepfather! He sure loves the ears. The baby, that is.

Did I mention I’m jealous? Sis got a Jacuzzi in the backyard. Nevermind minus fifteen degrees Celsius (like, 5 Fahrenheit) & snow! The latter only makes the whole event more fun when you can snow bathe before rejoining the hot water!

Leaving for party/travel/celebrations shortly, note to self; need to be better at scheduling things for the blog. Leaving the blog empty too long just makes me feel sad, even if you probably don’t notice that :p Nevertheless, here’s two quick & elegant cards in the meantime….will be back soon w/tutorial/inspirationthingie and more of my CHA-creations now that CHA is over!

Card: Base – Scenic Route, bazzill cardstock, tulle, prima flower, glitter splotches (read a nice and easy tutorial on it once inspired by hmm I’m pretty sure it was Ania-Maria – mix glitter w/liquid glue – I used the gold glitter by Maya Road mixed w/diamond glaze and added some pumps of gold glimmer mist…nifty trick, will use more often!), stamp by Craft Origine and the ribbon is one that I’ve had around like forever but can’t recall where’s from.

Another one, pretty much the same stuff/manufs used on this one like on the last card. I like the trend w/messy threads, personally I think it looks cute. Have no idea what people not into scrapbooking/cardmaking might think. Maybe they’ll look at it and think “gosh how silly, is that intentional??”? Shrug. I dunno. Still think it looks cool!

Right. Gotta jet.

OH PS! Know how to get rid of the annoying spots that remains behind when embossing stuff? And which gets embossed along with what you’re supposed to emboss? Dunno if you understand what I mean right now, but if you do and know the solution, please share….:/ I’ll add a closeup of the problem next time, but if you look closer you’ll know what I mean..the small black spots around the embossed imprint!

Altered chocolates & oh gong xi fa cai :)

I visited three awfully cute children the other day (oxymoron, isnt…awful in combination w/cute?), and just had to bring them chocolate. And as I had some time for preparation, I looked to my messy desk & found some scraps and bits and pieces to decorate the chocolate.

The polka dot paper seen here is from October Afternoon, while the flowered paper is from Crate (one of my fave sheets from them…sigh…only have about one sheet left, boo!)…got a new shipment of doilies, so now I’ve started using doilies again (I was almost out of doilies! eeks!). Pins and flowers found on my desk, the large flower is from Prima (I think it’s an old one, but it might very well be one of the new ones too…I’m not quite sure….it looks pretty though..like a fairy sorta)….the smaller are some white ones from Kort & Godt which I colored w/gold mist..oh and I ordered some bakers twine from The Twinery the other day, the {I love you sampler pack}..it looked like a nice assortment of colors and I’ve seen so much praise about their twine..and I have to say I was positively surprised – pretty pretty colors and it’s thicker and “fuller” than the other bakers twine I have (from some etsy-store)…sweet! And addictive, eeks!

I have so many cute chipboard pieces from Crate Paper that I really need to just start using! So I did =)

This paper is from Crate Paper, as well as the chipboards. The stamped letters were made with the new Prima press by the way, love mine!! So fun and easy to use :)

Gong xi fa cai!
Apparently it’s Mandarin for Happy New Year (or well, prosperous new year?).

Thanks to reading about Leena Loh’s preparations and excitement about the Chinese New Year (did you know we’re now into the year of Dragon? I guess you do, even here in Norway the papers have had bits and pieces on the Chinese NY and how this year is a powerful one and stuff…after the NY actually started..and you’d definitely know if you play WoW (think – the annual Lunar festival)) a while ago on her blog (this was the initial post that sparked the idea to see if I could do something on it…well worth the read & her whole blog is so pretty – from pretty photographs to lots of creative bits and pieces and inspiration, tip and great ideas), I got inspired and was able to invite myself to someone locally who’d celebrate that event so I could write about it in the newspaper I work for. And take pretty pictures. And (most important!) sample some of the amazing Chinese cuisine. Real homemade Chinese food! Tasted amazing, in case you wondered. Whee! Thanks Leena! :D

Tutorial: Canvas covered book

So, I had a request all the way from Jamaica (*waves!*) about how to create the canvasbook shown in the last post.

Well, I had actually taken images of the process step-by-step-ish, but wasn’t sure whether there were “need” for me to post such a tutorial or not. Sooo am happy somebody actually asked! :)

Step one – gather some sheets of papers for the content. The papers I used was ledger ones from Prima from last season. Wasn’t sure how to use them otherwise *blush*.
Cut and stack them like, 3-4 sheets together.
(I didn’t measure mine before sending off the projects to CHA I’m afraid. I eyeballed stuff and I *think* they’re like, slightly less than 5x7 inches when folded)

I used the sewing machine to stitch together the middle – but if you don’t have a sewing machine – don’t worry – just use staples :)

Now, take a sheet of canvas (I used the new Poppies & Peonies-collection from Prima) and adhere three rectangles of cardboard like shown above. The rectangles need to be slightly larger than your folded ledgerpapers/contents, and you need to remember to space them out some like shown above so it will fold properly. You can use patterned paper instead of canvas np, you might just want to strengthen the middle part/parts that’ll be folded when done (with either bookbindertape, canvas, extra paper, or cover the whole book in multi medium/sealer, preferably w/two layers...).

Right. Talking too much. Cut the corners like shown.

I used these clothespins to help securing the canvas while the adhesive was drying. A bonefolder to help folding the edges is always appreciated!

Find a proper length of trim or ribbon, adhere to the middleish of the book like this.

Cut another sheet of canvas to cover the insides. More clothespins!

Don’t forget to fold it some too during drying so you’re sure the folds looks pretty and stuff before it dries completely!

Then as for the contents…just add lots of liquid glue in the middle & secure the folded sheets tightly inside. Let it dry “standing”.

Then….decorate stuff….I went for a simple decoration for this one, since the canvas was pretty in itself :)

The canvas shown here are part of the new releases coming out this Spring. To my knowledge you can’t buy directly from Prima, but it should be available in stores some weeks after CHA (which starts next week actually). For online ones you could try Two Peas in a Bucket, Scrapbook.com, or Frantic Stamper – have no idea if they’ll take in this specific canvas, though. And there’s some stores doing preorders too, but I’m afraid I dunno which. Oh and for plain canvas I can recommend Claudine Hellmuths Studio sticky canvases. Hm. I’m not of much help, eh?

Canvas galore!

So,

seen the peeks yet over at the Prima blog? Some more of my stuff has popped up over there, in the Poppies and peonies-post, which means I can share’em here too, yay =)

So. First out is this ATC…we’re doing an ATC-swap in the DT, I’m creating one for Stacey Young, which can be seen above….and I’m getting one from Karola Witczak, whee! I added some gesso on mine, tried to stamp on it and discovered the stamp got smudged and didn’t seem to work well on the gesso (it yielded a crisp and fine impression on the paper – but an utterly sucky one on the gessoed canvas, boo), added some more gesso to cover up the mishap then went on adding some glimmer mist splotches onto it, a canvas butterfly (*loves*), a flower, a wooden pennant, a vintage trinket (*lovestoo*) and a wooden button then called it a day.

So. This Poppies & Peonies collection is a mostly canvas-based (and a few more things too, like some foam stamps and resinflowers and stuff) created by Donna Downey. Mm.. grabbed two canvas sheet & decided I’d make this journal myself (there’s already-made journals and stuff in the collection too…I did however have a number of ledger-papers from last CHA I wasn’t entirely sure what to do with, so I decided to put them to some good use…or something like that).

Looks sorta nice, eh?

The bird-trinket is one of many designed by Marion Smith, as seen in this post. I attached it to the chipboard/canvas with Glue Arts hot glue..been using that more and more lately..! The chipboard is from the Nature Garden collection, and the petal pin bead is just *loves* :) (it’s bendable though, which I assume would be a plus for jewellerymaking, but not so much when it comes to scrapbooking…still looks amazing though!)

First: Thanks so much for your help when it comes to the questions I had in my last post! I *think* I have it down when it comes to the meaning of “Joyeux anniversaire” and “Heureux anniversaire” (although there’s a slight conflicting feedback – so far no French people have elaborated on the finer meanings of these words, so if you have anything to add I’ll be happy to learn more about when to use what).

The ribbon I asked about indeed is seam binding (Julie Blanc: it does not seem to be taffeta to me from what I could see from googling – but thanks for the suggestion!), I even got a direct link from Anne Kristine (also known as Aksh) (who use this a lot – and quite superb at it if I may add…she’s truly amazing with the shabby style!) and have already purchased lots and lots =)

Onwards to more new stuff:

Right now Glue Arts is sponsored by Studio Calico, which meant we got to play with the October kit. Fun fun! It’s been a while since I played with a kit, and I’ve never tried Studio Calico, so yay! I must say I especially loved the products that’s Studio Calico’s own, like the graphic papers (love – I see why they fit well with American Crafts now – what I got seemed in the same gate as their graphic-oriented products).

I’ve elaborated more on the different steps of this layout in this blogpost if you’re interested.

I fell in love with these chipboard-butterflies from Sassafras! Plus this graphic card (which’s really just a note from Studio Calico or something like that)!

On this layout I mixed papers from Sassafras, Studio Calico and Basic Grey :)

This is my daughter and my nephew. Can hardly (can’t hardly??) wait to see him again in two weeks!!

3 questions I really could use your help with!

3 quick things:

1. French speaking people: What’s the difference between “Joyeux anniversaire” and “Heureux anniversaire”? (Yes, I asked google translate, but it just responded “happy birthday” to both).

2. I’ve updated my resume blog into this template called “Dynamic views”. What’s your verdict? Is it just me or does it seem to take slightly longish to load? Is this a good template for a resume blog which sorta have pretty static pages/posts? Or should I just go back to my old plain-ish template, with an old fashioned and pretty linear postageline?

3. Do you know what this ribbon is called? Or where I can buy it? (I purchased mine at Familieskatter a year ago or two, but they don’t have a webstore and I’m like, it’s too silly to email them just because of a ribbon..or is it..?) It’s a bit like twill, but not as thick or crude….more..sheer or organiza, except…it isn’t either (and yes, I’ve searched for all the above on ebay and still haven’t really found this exact kind of ribbon). I love it because you could crumple it or use it straight or mist it and stuff and it was so versatile and amazing and I regret not buying more of it or remembering what it’s called. Waah!

Hmmm.

I think that’s it.

Little boxes on the hillside

The January Prima Product Pick & Color palette is up, and within minutes of seeing this palette I whipped up this little box. Literally. Or well, maybe not, but I did start on this the same evening as the palette was revealed to us (funny sidenote; just read this article on memories which questions whether our memories really are our own/correct…. intriguing piece..esp the hot balloon-experiment).

Nevertheless. This palette:

..was the one that inspired me immensely.

I used prima-products from CHA-S for this one, ie – none of the new stuff. So, sorry if you wanted a peek or two of the new stuff! I must say – I *love* these leaves – they come in both metallic-colors (Aglow) & in felt (Vermont). Sigh. Wish I had more of these!

If you want to make your own box feel free to check out the tutorial here. You need two such boxes (or well, halves) – made from squares measuring approx 8 1/4 x 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches (ie, 1/2 inch diff in size…approx). Don’t forget the circle-punch to create such half-thingies you see pictured above; it’ll make it easier to take these boxes on/off.

I like making such boxes. Personally I think bulky flowers are difficult to work with when it comes to traditional layouts – but for such projects they’re such a perfect match!

The color yellow & a tutorial light

When Wenche announced her January-challenge over at 3ndypapir, I knew I had to join whenever I got the chance. Yellow is a color that I love, but never really actually use. So with her challenge being about using the color yellow, I happily obliged.

I added a number of Prima-flowers to this card (I esp *love* the big one here, the one with the bling in the middle!), some veeerrry old Prima-bling from like 2007 or so (haha! They’ve remained one of my faves thru the years though!) & stuck some Maya Road star-pins in thru the flowers. OH and see the letters? Awesome poolside-thickers from American Crafts – I couldn’t find any R or A’s left in my sheet so I cut this Q in half so it became exactly these two letters I needed. Ahhh, love it when the design allows you to do such stuff and turn out smashing =)

And as for the heart – I have a heartshaped minibook (by Maya Road) that I’ve torn apart & used in layouts and cards instead. I knew I wanted to use it, but at the same time I thought covering it in one sheet of patterned paper sorta would be boring when I hadn’t envisioned doing much else with the card itself.. So this time I simply cut a number of strips (with various widths), taped the one end lightly and started weaving the strips until it was large enough to cover the heart.

Before using the chipboardheart I painted the surface just in case it’d peek out from between the paper…then I covered the heart in adhesive and attached it to the woven mat.

Then all you need is to trace your heart & cut it out. Pwetty, eh?

The woven heart makes it look more “fun” …it’s going to a six year old girl, but the card itself could just as well be given someone who’s turning 60 too.

This Prima-layout was created using the Songbird-collection, along with..hm…well, all-new-stuff for CHA-W. You can find it on the Prima blog here. The picture is from the vacation in Paris we all had last Fall, and hmm.. I think this might be the first picture from that vacation that I’ve scrapped :p

This was also the first time I tried Ingvild Bolme’s craft knife, which I’m happy to report absolutely deserves a stamp of approval (yeah, like it counts for a lot, I know *grin*). Nevertheless..I cut part of the figurines, added another patterned paper as backing and then used small 3d foam squares to make sure the cuttings sorta stayed popup’ed.

Love these graphic tags! And the bling…and the tiny butterflies (whee) and the normal ones, which’s hairy this time. Initially I didn’t think that was a pretty addition (the earlier butterflies from Prima aren’t hairy sorta), but somehow I suddenly started to take a liking to them. Weird.

Lotsa pwetty flowers (adorned with crackle paint)! Oh, and a wooden clock, I truly love these… See the peachy piece of canvas btw? I sprayed golden glimmermist on it first then quick patches of vintage pink and it turned into a perfect blend of color that matched the papers superb. Pure luck that made me go whee! :)

The bare cupcakes tasted amazing - need to make the frosting now. I got a cupcake decorating set from my sister last Christmas, and the kid’s been bugging to use it ever since :)

Sooooo. I do adore making cute, little boxes.

Especially when I feel that everything goes right and there’s no fuzz or pulling of hair while pondering what to do how and where…it’s truly a nice feeling when it comes over you when you create. I savour it – because truth to be told, it isn’t always this easy (noooooo….tic :p).

Nevertheless..one of the interesting things is that combining different materials (here: ribbon, canvas, chipboard, patterned paper, kraft, mist and glitter) contribute to its interesting dimensioned look…I know it’s a pretty much used cliché – but I think you safely can say so about the way this little embellishmentclutter on the top of the box is built – layering the different materials yields such an interesting dimension. So there =)

It was created for Maya Road, as shown in this blogpost (where I also elaborate a bit on how this box was made).

And look! It contents sweets! (big, shocking surprise, I know ;p)

Maybe it’s just all the ones I liked from 2011 and thought deserved they deserved a second 15secs in the spotlight. Sue me. Or just scroll down, click on the next blog, whatever ;p

A pretty plain box – an exploding one – which held cookies. I like prettifying edible gifts.

Doily!! Sigh. I need another batch of these doilies, but I can’t seem to find these anywhere :( Anyone able to help out? They’re 4 inch in diameters..made by Wilton, so shouldnt be difficult finding them around, no… the LSS where I got them at is closing (sadface) and I was there the week before the announcement..and they were like, uh sure we could probably take it in again, check back after NY…but then they announced the closing :( )

I love these minicanvasses – I tried to look for more (they’re like, 4x4x1”) but they didn’t have any at Søstrene Grene downtown in Bergen (what a letdown :( ). Anyone know where they have more of these? Yell out please….I orginially purchased mine in Stavanger (søstrene Grene)…

Had to add this one! Holds my daughters drawings…(reminder to myself: Turn one of these drawings into real life toys!!) Maybe it’s just me, but..imagine..what amazing gift that’d be!?

It’s fairly thick, and is made outta cardstock…I have so much cardstock I have to thin it out some! When I started scrapbooking I had to have all the worlds colors, now I’ve realized I’m not that much of a cardstock-scrapbooker…

My daughter only insisted on one thing: Add Hello Kitty to the book! So I did (this one is taken from an ice cream box :p Scrapbooking at its best, eh?)

Maybe the Superkanin one….although..that’s maybe copyrighted and stuff, since it’s a book and all..

A fun tablestand I created with Crate Paper stuff..gotta admit it turned out pretty pretty!

Especially the top-part =) Creating these are &/%&/& work, but it does turn out pretty….

Finally able to use some of the more dimensional flowers too :p (I’ll freely admit, I love the look of these but think it’s difficult to actually use on actual projects).

When Maya Road approached me asking if I’d possibly like to join their DT, I had to do a tryout first. This card was one of the things I made for that tryout. Still love it! Made with items from Maya Road & papers from Pink Paislee.

There’s something about this colorcombo that makes me really like this one..made for Prima.

Oh, this one’s funny….kiddo came home telling me that he was invited to the birthdayparty of my biggest fan ever…a girl in his class…so he was like, so mom, since she’s your biggest fan ever, please make sure you put an effort into her card…made with stuff from Crate Paper..

New year, new possibilities…or something like that.

Making resolutions for the new year seem popular. Mine’s quite humble; try to be wiser, grow a brain and not be so darn sleepy all the freakin’ time…
(sure, I could put on a straight face and say I’d intend to work out more, like 89% of like, normal people seem to do, but hey, I know that’d be like, snowball’s chance in Hell..)

For my New Year dress I tried to create my own accessory – made with Prima stuff (cuff from Ruby Violet, flowers & baubles from the CHA-S stuff). Hard to get the colors right, the two below ones are more correct in color than the above, which shows my dress as well..ahwell..)

After figuring out what I wanted where, this was surprisingly easy. Not sure what adhesive is best for this kind of activity, I used my Glue Arts hot glue, which seem to work swell.

I tried to chose different materials and colors that complemented my dress – feathers, baubles, satin-fabric and felt.

Sure, the result felt a bit American (like, corsages for prom), but still it looked pretty enough :) )

Had a quiet and nice NY eve – with tapas on the menu and a bunch of sugar-high kids around the house.

It’s useless to try instruct five sugar-high kids aged 6 to 11 to try sign 2012. *sigh*

They rocked the circles, though! :p

They (ok, some of them!) managed to do the heart as well!

The older kids had to try as well :)

Tried to do some firework-shots but the view from the terrace combined with the weather sucked this year :/

Nevertheless…Happy New Year folks, & thanks much for the sweet comments on the last few posts :)

Top Ten Layouts 2011

Waiting for mist to dry is quite boring – on par with watching paint dry (duh) or grass grow…(using the heating gun just makes the paper wrap annoyingly and I find myself unable to do anything else while waiting), so figured I’d just share my top ten layouts from 2011 – in no particular order.

Created for 3ndypapir – love this one because one – I love kraft but must admit I find it difficult to scrap with lots of kraft – and two – LOOK! HAMBLY RUBONS! And not just any rubons – but the robo ones!! LOVES!! :)

My sweet, sweet nephew – this was the very first layout I made with him on it – for Crate Paper. Love this elegant line as well!

Another one for Crate Paper – this time with my youngest niece. Love her to bits! Love this one because it feels quite liberating to be this “careless” when creating a layout…

…and back to a tight looking layout – this time created for Glue Arts, with amazing papers from DCWV. Oh, and this is my oldest niece *loves*.

A layout with papers and materials from Pink Paislee and Elle’s Studio – made for a guest-DTgig for Mission to create.

Just like this one. Also think it was one of the first times when I realized how nice doilies are for scrapbooking (yes, I’m slow, sue me :p).

So sad Sassafras is no longer! Or well, not as a scrapbook-company anyways. Not quite sure if they meant to stay in the scrapbook-world still or not? Ahwell. Love their fun designs. Sigh.

This one I created for Maya Road, for the productswap with Lily Bee. Happiness! One – because I managed to use the zipper-thingie, which I find difficult to use, two – lovely color&patternpalette and I’ve been wanting to try Lily Bee-products for a while, and three – when I created that layout I hadn’t done layouts in a good long while (sorta got stuck doing cards and altered stuff), and it totally felt good doing layouts again!

After not being happy with how a layout turned out, I used the leftoverscraps to create this one and immediately liked it. Still do!

And this one – my favorite layout from the layouts I made for Prima back at CHA-S. Love the picture, love the papers, love the embellishments (especially that star vine!!! swoon!)!

Right!

Be back at next unintentional scrappingbreak with top ten cards and altered and stuff I guess!! In the meanwhile…..am trying to be a good busybee doing lots and lots of CHA-W projects *smirk*

More altered stuff…

2 posts in a row? Yeah, I’m feeling pretty inspired atm…and because I had some gifts that needed to be done :p And because I’m still trying to clean up stuff…

Nevertheless…here’s a gift based on Wenches fab tutorial on how to make books…

Materials used: papers from Pink Paislee, leaves & bling from Prima, wooden spool from Maya Road and stamps from Craft Origine (the words repertoire and carnet de notes plus the quill is from this stamp set).

As for the book-cover itself? Corrugated cardstock is simply perfect for this purpose :)

Here’s another gift using the food stamp from Craft Origine..it’s simple & once again I’m in love with the glimmermist-color “Patina” (which looks just the same as “Jazz Blue” imo) from tattered angels! So pretty against the white..

Another gift-wrap created with mostly old, old stuff! The front flower (Prima) and the tag (3ndypapir) are new, but the paper-flowers (Prima), heart doily & ribbon are old stuff I’m happy to finally get to put to use :)

Especially the ribbon…it’s sort of ugly, but it fit so well here, yay!

Right.

Still have a few more necessities to create, like a matchbox for myself for Christmas, a gift card for my daughter and some more tags for minor gifts…wrap up a few more minibooks for CHA… I’m starting to feel like I never get around to do layouts, but…need to get my priorities straight and get the smaller stuff done first!

so…there’s a Lawn Fawn partnership going on over at Glue Arts, which brings us to todays tags – pieced together with 3ndypapir-papers…for a step-by-step thingie on the tags (and chances to win both stamp & adhesive-sets) – feel free to drop by here.

Ignore the darker splotches….sort of regret them the moment I added them to the tag, then reeeally regret it when washing away the glimmermist off the embossed snowflakes as it made it smudgy…ahwell. What can I say..I am imperfect ;p

Another gift-project..put together with Prima-stuff..trying to use some of the older stuff while impatiently waiting for the new stuff…*grin* *wink*

I really like this colorcombo – copper, red, gold and uhm, bright turquoise (?).

Speaking of Prima..reminds me..don’t forget the December BAP (or PPP)…here’s a layout based on the BAP…sort of liked it when I made it, but as an afterthought I think the banners should be either placed more together, or had more flags layered in between the existing ones… ahwell!

I really like the way the pennants were decorated though, with chipboard & wooden snowflakes (which I purchased at PACS in France a year ago..and hadn’t used until now! They’re pretty similar to the wooden snowflakes that Maya Road has btw if you happen to wonder how to get these). They’re covered with distress crackle paint..love the frosty, crackle effect!

Once again – 3ndypapir & Maya Road stuff :)

Right. I *think* we’re actually done with all this years presents…just 2 or 3 more minor things to fix, yay us!

The little one’s been toiling away creating lots and lots of amazing, creative gifts ever since November…at first doing mostly drawings, paintings and glass jars (like here) – but lately making things as shown at Art Attack..it’s darn amusing to watch her..and her eagerness is pretty adorable – she’s doing it all pretty much on her own, thinking of everybody in our family…cute…

We’ve also miraculously got a Christmas-tree like, 10 days earlier than usual. Got a message from a friend the other day saying she & her hubby was helping their son’s school band selling X-mas trees…so I was like, sure, why not..need a tree sooner or later, why not buy it off a friend :) Besides, this way I could be a real bully & totally picky making them really work for the money *wink wink*
Right. Got a few more Christmas-related projects (I discovered I need matchboxes…apparently I’ve misplaced the one I had and well, need matches for Christmas!) to work on in between working on CHA-W projects….(funfun!)

Right now there’s a Simple Stories exchange thingie with Maya Road, which means we get to play with their products combined with Maya Road stuff. Here’s what I created for it – an itty bitty gift (this one was fun to make! Both the gift itself and the embellished wrapping). Another favorite, or perhaps I should say a must, is the Raisen’s from Glue Arts. I use it on seriously pretty much everything, burning through my stack atm :/ It’s like pop up glue dots, invisible and of perfect thickness to give a subtle dimension…and so far it’s been pretty darn sticky aswell :)

I suck at figuring out nifty titles, so – this one just expresses my feeling right now ;)

If you head over to Glue Arts, you’ll find a step-by-step on how to create these quick & practical giftboxes(although, it’s not really like, rocket science ;p), and a chance to enter into a drawing of one of the new Glue Pro Glider stuff plus some additional adhesive. I wouldn’t miss that chance if I were you =)

I gotta admit..it does look pretty doesn’t? *cough* *cough*

There’s also a new BAP and PPP up over at the Prima-blog, here’s my contribution to the PPP one.

For the leaf-vine I played some with glittery stickles and distress crackle paint (the clear one) – look how pretty it turned out! :)

Let’see… I haven’t shared my Prima-layouts, so here they are.

Honestly, when I create stuff I’m not too happy about, I usually try to create something else to “make up” for it…but experience have shown that oftentimes I get more comments on the stuff I’m not too wild about myself…I dunno..maybe can people see that it wasn’t top notch, and feel sorry for me and comments on it to make me feel better..? Or, most likely (I hope :p) – taste differs. It’s just the way it is. Nevertheless. Above layout is “just ok”. Didn’t really feel it though. But! It feels nice having scrapped the photos (from an open day at the firestation, a yearly tradition around here..think the kid’s been there three times in a row now).

So I created this one with the leftovers….much better imo, and it made me feel better having done a layout I was more happy about... my gorgeous sister & her boyfriend..

I especially love this little detail: Crackle accents upon the letters. Turned out really cool. And again, love the Hambly overlays – love that one sheet goes a long way – I’ve used this one forever in cards and as accents to layouts. Perfect little details :)

Love the felt-leaves – so pretty! Adds such a nice touch to any project…here I just used one leaf…but it looks pretty when you use two upon each others too..

Looks yummy... 'tis the season to bake! Oh and I was wondering if you are going to do a december daily type thing?

Uuh, this reminds me that I haven’t turned my February daily-blogthingie into a mini as I intended to do yet…so err, nope. Actually, I’ve tried to do that a few years and fallen short every time apart from last year, which can be found here. Not going to set myself up for another failure this year though when I know I have a lot on my plate before Christmas..am even working this Christmas, yay me.. I do admire those who’s disciplined enough to do one – I know how much it can take. I guess I’ll just try to snap at least one photo every day & turn it into a mini sometime next year. Hmm. Yeah. Will definitely try to snap a photo every day so I have something I can do later when I have a little more time… You gave me something to think about :)

Lefsebaking & a gift for grandma

Last week, at my days off work, I decided to bake lefse. It’s a traditional Norwegian, hm, I’m not quite sure what to call it actually – not really cake, nor cookie….some kinda…tortillawraps..only..it’s mostly used on the sweet side, rather than for dinner which’s what people think of when thinking of tortillawraps…? (can you say that by the way – think of when thinking of…? :p)

Nevertheless…I’m easily affected I guess, I was talking to & taking photographs of some nice ladies with 55+ years of experience making lefse (for Christmas)….so I was like..hey…that’s easy, I can do that too!

Well..it tasted nice…need to practice the execution though! (but hey, it’s only my 2nd time in my life I’ve baked this, so :) ).

Nevertheless…..managing to bake this (with my oldest kid nevertheless) made me pretty proud – and with the pride came the thoughts of “darn, wish my grandma lived closer so she could get some taste of this too”.

Very well! I knew I had at least one of these plastic bags left, found it & created a giftwrap with Imaginisce and Glue Arts.

Check out the lefse! I used two recipes I found on the web: Askøylefsen (this one tasted the best imo, BUT was a PAIN to bake..broke all the time into smaller pieces :( ) and mormors lefse (I thought I added too much flour in this one, but turned out I needed more nevertheless as it kept sticking to the table when rolling it flat..hmm…more elastic than the askøylefse, but still, easily got holes and stuff in this one)

Then I needed a card ofc. It was whipped together quick and effortlessly thanks to the cute & inspiring materials from Imaginisce & Maya Road :)
