beautiful brocade

+ THURSDAY, APRIL 28 2011

Stumbled upon this site the other day, and to say that I am dieing for an apartment to decorate is an understatement. Because that isn't in the cards yet, I guess my parent's house will just have to do for now! I took my favorite images from Brocade Home, and created mood boards based on contrasting + complementary colors.

*If anyone visited my sister while she lived in London, do these images remind you of her super chic flat?!

retailers revamp

2011-04-27T02:33:00.001-05:00

+ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27 2011

In one of my very last marketing lectures (ever!), my professor directed our attention to an article in the Wall Street Journal, relating to how important marketing the retailer depends on the store image. Writer Elizabeth Holmes explores the retailers steps to battling the dressing room, which is known as a sales killer. In this video, Holmes explains that "by fixing up the rooms, stores can increase the odds customers will buy clothing".

This WSJ article features images of some updated dressing rooms, showcasing the company's effort to increase sales.

I just found the article + concept to be so interesting, I thought I would share!

chambray

2011-04-17T23:40:00.000-05:00

+ MONDAY, APRIL 18 2011

With the warm weather settling in, the chambray fabric seems to be climbing to the top of the list for spring trends. Although it looks like denim, it is primarily a cotton fabric, that combines colored warp with white filling yarns. Translation: it can be produced in many colors and feels ultra-lightweight, perfect for the spring weather. It is refreshing to see vivid hues + the modern approach to the classic workwear-inspired shirt. It may be my current obsession with the movie "Country Strong" that is pulling me toward this trend as well...

confessions of an etsy enthusiast

2011-03-25T11:00:00.004-05:00

+ FRIDAY, MARCH 25 2011

I have been ~~somewhat~~ completely + embarrassingly obsessed with my brand new MacBook Pro 15", I received earlier this week. Going from the MacBook 13" that was 4 years old to this new guy... it is like night and day! Anyways, I have been shopping around for cases and stumbled upon Byrd and Belle on Etsy. I have to admit.. I say "confessions of an etsy enthusiast" because I find myself spending many hours browsing through items I think I MUST have...

Back to Byrd and Belle:

"...byrd and belle specializes in macbook laptop sleeves, iphone and ipod cases in wool felt and hand-dyed leather. Simple modern design and well-constructed accessories handmade in Minneapolis, Minnesota."

13" or 15" MacBook Pro Sleeve | Grey Wool Felt + Brown Leather

13" or 15" MacBook Pro Sleeve | Grey Wool Felt + Black Leather

iPhone Case | Grey Wool Felt + Black Leather

iPod Nano Case | Gunmetal Wool Felt + Brown Leather

iPhone Case | Grey Wool Felt + Brown Leather

I am just so intrigued by these modern and simplistic cases!

While flipping through Shape's March issue, one article that caught my eye was about "the secret to a more cheerful abode is picking the right wall-brightening shades". The Director of Color Marketing of Sherwin-Williams, Jackie Jordan, shared colors for each room + the reasoning of why it transformed the room. Because I thought it was so interesting, I decided to search for some examples of what colors she suggests and share!

inspiration vacation

2011-03-18T02:48:00.001-05:00

+ FRIDAY, MARCH 18 2011

For my spring break, I sailed to Progresso + Cozumel, Mexico on the Carnival Elation with a couple of my best friends. I had such a wonderful and relaxing vacation, and am so sad it is over. We tanned on the beach while enjoying Mexico's warm sunshine, and also shopped around. Our cruise's destination became my inspiration; I felt energized as I perused the prints + patterns in Mexico, and now that I am not white as a ghost, I am loving the bright vibrant colors trend.

the who + what + wear

2011-02-28T15:36:00.000-06:00

+ MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28 2011

As Fashion Week continues, I have felt glued to Net-A-Porter. On their website, they have a weekly magazine (which I flip through entirely too much), and for the past couple of weeks the "Fashion Week Survival Kit" has been featured. Everyone always talks about the fashion being presented by all of the designers during Fashion Week, and as interesting and inspiring as that is, I think it is just as exciting to see what everyone plans to wear to the events.

Just in case you wanted to "Master Front Row Style"...

susan brown | bohemian romance

2011-02-10T08:20:00.000-06:00

+ THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 10 2011

Maybe it is because of my appreciation for my Visual Art class this semester, or maybe it is because I am just tired of this cold winter weather... either way I felt completely refreshed and inspired after I found Susan Brown Bohemian Romance site.

"In business since 1994 our mission is to provide beautiful pieces of art and home accessories, as well artistic gift items. My primary desire is to express myself creatively and authentically. I offer these creations to the world and am thrilled when they are received appreciatively."

Her online store is available here, and I think all of her prints are beautiful. They are so sweet and innocent, I think any one of these chandelier or rose prints would look lovely in a powder or bathroom, or even the "ultra-girly" girl's bedroom.

intermezzo collections

2011-02-09T15:17:00.001-06:00

+ WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 9 2011

After writing about one of my favorite spring trends yesterday, I decided to do a little more digging into what we should be expected to see this spring/ summer... Stylesight had the scoop.

"Intermezzo Collections in January 2011 focused on immediate, summer and transition deliveries for the contemporary markets. Traffic was up over the previous show, with many vendors remarking on increased ordering, though retailers were still buying very close to season. 70s Baja California fashion – faded denim, beachy kaftans, popovers and vintage tees in sun-washed tones – was the key fashion direction. Sheer fabrics, florals, billowy blouses, maxi dresses and long skirts were also high on buyers checklists. African-inspired prints and bodies continue to surface, though were not as sought after as last year. "

SHOW FACTS:
    • Venue: The Show Piers at 55th Street and the West Side Highway
    • 375+ Exhibitors
    • New Exhibitors include: The Addison Story, LNA, Issi, Saint Grace, Many Belles Down, Willow & Clay
    • Next show date: TBD

rikshaw designs

2011-02-03T07:55:00.001-06:00

+ THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 3 2011

"Rikshaw Design founder and designer Catherine Fitzsimmons has spent a life traveling the globe- she's been an au pair in Paris, did a bike tour across Cape Cod, backpacked across Europe, spent a summer at a dude ranch and camped across the western part of the US. The Virginia native has always been a spontaneous adventurer and is continually drawn to a creative, bohemian existence. An innate traveler who takes inspiration from each of her journeys, Catherine's Southern roots are equally as important to her aesthetic and are reflected in the gracious styling of the line and fine attention to detail..."

"The Rikshaw Design collection includes crib sets, pillows, and accessories, all hand block-printed on the softest Indian cotton voile. The line is easy to mix and match with coordinating prints, florals, stripes and motifs."

I just love these prints and patterns! The cotton block-printed look is so cute, and Catherine offers these tunics, so not everything is for baby! I can see any one of those tunics paired with skinny jeans or white jeans for the summer.

matchbook magazine

2011-01-27T22:12:00.001-06:00

+ FRIDAY, JANUARY 28 2011

"Launched in January 2011, Matchbook is an online lifestyle publication celebrating classics - shaken and stirred. Our monthly issues cover past and present fashion, decor, the arts, travel and culture. Brimming with intriguing interviews, stately homes, captivating memoirs and swoon-worthy fashion spreads, matchbook seeks to inspire women around the globe to design a life they adore. From lipstick to letterpress, gelato to grosgrain, and Paris to Peru, consider us your field guide to a charmed life."

I am beyond excited to share this with y'all. I thought it would be a perfect to show a "sneak peak" into the magazine with some of my favorite pictures... I really had to narrow it down! I thought it would be fun {channeling some creativity} and designed a sticky note, with one of my textile designs, and added some of my thoughts. I couldn't resist circling some items I am just dieing for! I feel like I am giving too much away, so when you have a chance, take a look!

Keep the issues coming, I LOVE everything I see!

"...His work is often referred to as art installations. Here in Tuscaloosa, it has pretty much been a consistent mix of rain, and freezing temperatures since classes started. I found a wide variety in the price range, from "cheap to steep"!

1. Tory Burch, Limited Edition Logo Rain Boots in Pink/ Navy, $150
2. Valentino, Lace-Print Rain Boots, $295
3. Burberry, Quilted Check Print Rain Boots, $450

steal the "swan" style

2011-01-21T02:27:00.001-06:00

+ FRIDAY, JANUARY 21 2011

Did everyone watch the Golden Globe Awards on the 16th? If not, you missed Natalie Portman receiving "Best Actress" for Black Swan. I was able to see the movie over my winter break, and I thought it was the most terrifyingly beautiful movie I have ever seen. Thanks to my twitter app on my blackberry, I found this Vogue article featuring the "swan style"; Meredith Melling Burke comments that "the delicate femininity of the ballerina's wardrobe has started to influence the way we want to dress now".

If you have not seen the movie, I would recommend doing so! Don't you think everything Vogue featured looks amazing?! All product information is available here.

lace | effortlessly elegant

2011-01-16T07:00:00.008-06:00

+ SUNDAY, JANUARY 16 2011

If it isn't obvious by now, I am absolutely in love with anything that "screams femininity". One of my favorite textiles has to be lace. It seems that lace always finds it's way into every season, and the way the fashion industry has transformed this once "bridal fabric" amazes me: lace can showcase your most lady-like side with an ethereal style dress, or you can mix hard and soft by pairing a lace dress with a leather jacket! As StyleCaster.com summarizes Spring 2011 trends, "...it's all about the luxe, but also keep an eye out for the whimsical and playful..."

Shopbop has some awesome lace pieces, and their styling shows just how flexible this fabric can be. I picked out 6 of my favorite to show you, and if you can see, the background of this lace inspiration board is my newest textile design! Created in Adobe Illustrator, I used the pen tool and created a "lace" design to repeat, with a detailed scalloped edge!

1. Alice + Olivia, Lace Back Halter, $275

2. Lover, Tilly Lace Top, $440

3. Nanette Lepore, Amore Mio Lace Sheath Dress, $278.60

4. LaROK LUXE, Lace Mace Dress, $398

5. Beyond Vintage, Embroidered Lace Blouse, $297

6. Joie, Portia Dress, $318
