Indiana Tourism Media Marketplace: Jessica Nunemaker On-Site

little Indiana ventured on over to Indianapolis for an Indiana Tourism Media Marketplace at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

It’s a large event of more than 25 travel-related professionals devoted to helping people like me find things to do in their towns, cities, and counties! It’s a great chance to reconnect with some folks that I only ever talk to via email!

While I obviously by-pass the city part of things, there’s still plenty there to keep a small town writer like me busy.

Not only did I get to break out one of my favorite pairs of shoes, but there’s quite a bit of great free stuff involved. There were: chocolates from Java Bean Cafe in Vevay, Indiana, chocolates from all over other parts of Indiana, a cutting board from Coppes Common in Nappanee, Indiana, and even a Vera Bradley bag!

These various products represent these locations. It’s how they are known! It’s a very tangible way to lure in travel writers.

I took a moment from chowing down on my lunch (also free) to shoot a short little video to tell you more about it–and why events like these are so important to attend, no matter what industry you are in! I managed to shoot this in one take! The producer would be proud (or maybe just surprised).

While I wasn’t sure what I thought, from the little Indiana Facebook Fan Page point of view, I really enjoy this new look. Yes, it took a little getting used to but the opportunity for fan engagement is fantastic.

Facebook offers you a free platform for promoting your latest activity. It’s easy, it’s quick–and it can help you reach a different audience.

Facebook Events for Small Business

Facebook Events are a sometimes under-utilized part of the Facebook Fan Page.

While you most likely won’t receive a huge response, you can look at it as one more way to reach your target audience.

Facebook can certainly get in the face of some of your more vocal and online savvy fans.

Using Facebook Events

The best part of Facebook Events lies in the fact that it is not complicated. At all.

When you are using Facebook as your brand, click on the Home Page. Look under “Favorites” where you will see a tab (on the left-hand side) labeled “Events.”

Click “Events” and it will bring up a new screen. It asks if you want to create a new event.

Creating Facebook Events

Type in your snazzy, eye-catching Event name.

Fill in the date, the time, and your location.

Add the details and choose whether or not non-admins, people other than you, can write on the wall for your Facebook Event. Click yes–but make sure to check up on your page. Folks may have questions and will expect a response!

Ready to Roll

Facebook also lets you add in photos. Do it!

Everyone likes to see what they are getting into. Upload photos that relate to your event–and start generating excitement!

If only one person responds to your Facebook Event invite, look at it as one new person you didn’t reach before! This approach will work the best when you are on other social networks and can cross-promote your event.
