What a good way to start the week!

Was down in Melbourne Friday/Saturday for a meeting on Saturday. Headed down Friday morning so I could catch up with a friend for lunch and do some Melbourne wanderings before the scheduled dinner Friday night and meeting all day Saturday…

The flight there was lovely and uneventful (though I was on the wrong side of the plane to see Mt Hotham and the other things the pilot kept mentioning!)

Then it was off to the Oaks on Market to see if they’d let me check in. Which they did :) I was sharing a 2 bedroom apartment with another person.

I got to catch up with a friend for lunch at the City Library cafe… she got to he me moan about my stressed brain, rather patiently ;)

Spent some time after that wandering, tried on some things, but they weren’t right… wound up back at the hotel, showered, put on my Maiocchi dress, and hung out in the R2 bar with my netbook and internet stick :p

Before long, it was time to head to the Welcome dinner, held at Alexi’s in the hotel

I had the Barramundi which was yum! Then myself and my roommate asked and got fruit salads, while the others ate deliciously awesome looking sweets.

The Saturday was LONG… 8:30 til after five.

Sitting on the plane, seeing if the Sydney flight would leave first. It did :(

The pilot warned us to expect a bumpy flight, and it was rather bumpy except for the maybe 10 mins cruising! Lots of bumping through the clouds up and down.

Was pleased to be on the ground after that flight!!

(but not so to have to get up the next day for a full day at Uni. This may kill me yet.)

Hurrah for Spring! Now to get planting on my other veges.

Caught up with my sister and nephew, and my parents at The Kitchen cafe on Darby Street Cooks Hill when we were up. After Jennie lugging the stroller upstairs (my dad had told them that we needed a place for the stroller when he booked, but they didn’t note it down, otherwise a downstairs table would have been organised and appreciated), we got to choosing our foods.

The Semolina Porridge that Liam and I ended up sharing. Wasn’t a good choice on my behalf, was hoping for more fruit. But Liam scoffed down more than me, so it wasn’t wasted!

I may have filled up on soy lattes….

I’ve walked past Sprocket Roasters on Hunter St Newcastle before, but haven’t headed in to try their home-roated coffee before… but it was a such as gorgeous day on Saturday that my parents and I said “Why not? Let’s have another coffee before the train comes!” (while the trains still run, hey?

Cat on the Street behind Darby St

A week or so ago I received a sample of the new Gluten Free base from Muesli4Me mixed with a couple of my new awesome in my breakfast fruits – cranberries and figs, as I’d asked them if they were going to put out a GF base given the amount of people that have to have gluten free… such a market for them.

The Gluten Free base contains puffed millet, puffed rice, rice bran, sunflower seeds and roast buckwheat “for a delicious nutty flavor”. I should have had it with yoghurt (which I didn’t… ) which would have prevented the eeep it’s going to go soggy! issue. It tasted nice, just had to adjust the liquids accordingly with the puffs.

I also got to try their Go Crunchy base, which they list as “sweet and crunchy made from oats, almonds, pepitas, coconut, milk, sugar and vegetable oil” which it certainly tasted like! It’s a complete cereal in itself, though I’m sure the addition of your fave dried fruit would give you an added bonus… It would probably a sometimes breakfast food for me… delicious, but the sweetness induced guilt ;)

Off to Newcastle for a quick weekend trip. Hoping my innards are good to me, as I’ve not had a good couple of days in my guts and then my head… Just over so much right now… Maybe the coastal air and warmth will do me good.

After an initial delivery mishap where the contents of the Goji Berry Antioxidant Mix were out of their container and my macadamialicious was swimming in it, I’ve now tried two mixes from mixmymuesli… yes another custom muesli company!

The Goji Berry Antioxidant Mix is a yummy sweet-tangy start to the day, with goji berries, cranberries and sultanas giving a sugar buzz…

I probably wouldn’t get macadamias again, they’re great for the mouthful they’re in, but for the rest of it, you have the rely on the other things… I think the slivered almonds might provide better nut value ratios!

The other morning I mixed the two together and got a better ratio of fruit to base for me than what’s in the Goji mix – too much dried fruit in the morning! meep!
