Time Out in Hong Kong

Years ago, an issue of "Time Out" on hand is snugly perfect for receiving hip information about fairs among scenes of culture and entertainment as well as dining tips in a week, no matter you are in London for the sake of traveling or residing. It does not only have reviews in appropriate length, which is nothing more, nothing less, and it also has categorized dating-service ads, which belonged to the age before the internet immersion.

From time to time, the phenomenon of releasing different versions for varied cities, e.g. New York, Moscow, Sydney, Singapore and so many, is just similar to what "Metro" can be seen in all over the world. Nevertheless, the fact that Hong Kong has got Hong Kong version of "Metro" for ages just makes me wonder when "Time Out" Hong Kong, which should be coming soon for sure, will be finally out, hehe.

3P emerges on Portishead “Third”

Being one of the pioneers of Triphop, long-awaited record of Portishead “Third” is eventually releasing in April after being waited for more than 10 years since their second self-titled album “Portishead”. Before the official release, leaked version was spread out to the internet since few days ago so that all triphoppers were to quenched their thirst with having a zest of the album at once.

The experience of listening to the complete album, setting off from the groggy beat “Silence” to indulge in this 50-minutes journey of groaning, is totally different from listening to the clips of live version which are of poor quality before hand. Listening to this album made me realise that Portishead is still the only Portishead which is anyway irreplaceable though there have been so many imitators. Never can you forget them. So far, my favourite tracks are ”The Rip” which is as tranquil as quicks and as well as “Machine Gun” which is as tight as being strangled by crew neck.

The song is vigorous, catchy and sophiscated. That the babbling brass emphasises the Bhangra rhythm, which Timbaland is good at, as well as the repeated performance of Madonna and Justin Timberlake singing against each other is utterly inviting.

Do you accept Edison Chen’s apology?

In the end Edison Chen came back to Hong Kong to hold his press conference literally in the following days of the earth-shattering death of Lydia Sum. In his speech, he admitted most of the photos which were private and were not shown to anyone were taken by him. He apologized to his family, friends and the victims the ladies on the photos, and therefore he begged for forgiveness from the public. What is most shocking of his speech is he decided to quit the entertainment industry in Hong Kong.

His speech was a very witty and proper response definitely assisted by his think tank, but someone challenged the press conference and his stepping away of Hong Kong entertainment industry are his only choice to be done to resolve the whole mess because he is currently getting a seat to star in Hollywood movies and he can just devote himself on the showbiz in either Mainland China or Taiwan. Meanwhile, people thought it was just another well-planned tactic to prevent any legal problems in the future in view of the statement, in which he would reserve all the rights to have legal actions for his private photos published in magazines, written by his lawyers.

So after hearing different opinion, do you think his apology is whole-hearted? What do you think? Do you accept his apology? What do you think about the incident now? And comparing to the one done by Gillian Chung, which one gains your trust more?

"Today I have come back to Hong Kong to stand before you and account for myself. I have never escaped from my responsibility. During the past few weeks, I have been with my mother and my family and my loved ones to show support and care and at the same time to have them support and care for me.

I admit that most of the photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. But these photos are very private and have not been shown to people and are never intended to be shown to anyone. These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent.

There is no doubt whoever obtained these photos have them uploaded on the Internet with malicious and deliberate intent. This matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this. In this regard, I am deeply saddened. I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this. I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I am sorry. I would like to also apologize to my mother and my father for the pain and suffering I have caused them during the past few weeks. Most importantly, I would like to say sorry to all the people of Hong Kong. I give my apology sincerely to you all, unreservedly and with my heart.

I know young people in Hong Kong look up to many figures in our society. And in this regard, I have failed. I failed as a role model. However, I wish this matter will teach everyone a lesson. To all the young people in our community, let this be a lesson for you all. This is not an example to be set for you.

During my time away, I have made an important decision. I will whole-heartedly fulfill all commitments that I have to date. But after that, I decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and to search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months. I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment industry indefinitely. There is no time frame.

I have been assisting the police since the first day the photos were published and I will continue to assist them. After this press con., I have obligation to help them with their investigation and hope that this case can end soon as everyone I think has the same wish.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank the police for their hard work on this case. Thank you. I believe everyone’s priority now (and) my priority now is to stop the suffering and pain, for not letting this…we do not want to let this situation become more out of control. We need to protect all the innocents and all the young from matters like this. In this regard, I have instructed my lawyers to do everything possible within the law to protect all the innocents, victims of this case. I believe that a press statement is being issued as we speak on what my lawyers have advised me to do.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for coming here today and listening to what I have to say. I would like to also apologize once again to all the ladies and their families, my family and to everyone in Hong Kong and everyone in our society. I am deeply saddened by this. And I apologize to everyone (who) has to go through this. I would like to also thank you for giving me this opportunity to say what I have wanted to say all along in my heart.

I hope, after today, I can have your forgiveness. With regard to this case, with everything, everything that has happened, I am deeply sorry. I hope you all accept my apology and give me a chance.

Gillian Chung, the first female protagonist of the scandal of Edison’s sex photos eventually stands in front of public in press conference in where she made a brief word for the incident:

“I admit that I used to be very naive and very silly, but I’ve already grown up now. I wish to thank my company,family and friends for their support. I deeply regret the trouble caused to the general public. I will work hard in the future and will positively face my life ahead.”

On the other side, her sincerity of Emperor Entertainment Group, the company to which Gillian belongs was challenged by some people with the reason that no clarification has been made for their lie in which they insisted the photos are made up by digital editing in the beginning. And some people voiced that it was just an arrangement for soothing the companies for which Gillian has been working. Furthermore, people are deeply suspicious that Gillian is all in all still acting and fooling the public in disguise of a beautiful idol since she has completely broken her integrity by lying for so long, e.g. her advocating no sex before marriage but her sluttish performance and face in the sex photos leaked out. What a sex photo scandal!

Today I have broken my silence.

As of this evening, the police have made significant advances towards solving this malicious crime. As from the beginning I will continue to give the police my fullest cooperation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

At this time I am not able to discuss matters related to the case, but I do feel it is my obligation to accept full responsibility and take action to help both the victims and those associated with them to heal their wounds.

In this regard, I plead with everyone to please stop forwarding the images on the internet. Furthermore, to completely rid the images from your computer. This is a small step that each one of us can take to help the innocent rebuild their lives. The priority now is for all of us to pitch in and help those in need.

Despite the fact that Edison chan has made his public speech via video, his genuineness was put into debate by many people.

In view of consecutive quite controversial reaction taken by Edison Chan, quite a lot of people have voiced that he does not really feel sorry at all for the whole scandal. As we all remembered how Edison as the person who took great responsibility of this incident fled from Hong Kong on the second day of this case, it is hardly persuasive he is a responsible person. And his posting a entry titled as "Sniper" in his blog prior to any responses made publicly became a dismay to other victims and the people who have put trust in him. Some opinions stated that this act seemed to be a improper reaction for revenge.

Besides, his video of apology is not well accepted by the public because the video resembles a discreet material for refraining shouldering any legal responsibilities in light of his dressing up in formal wears as well as his choosing of speaking English, instead of a whole-hearted apology. They are likely to be suggested by lawyers in order to taking advantage of making Edison himself as an appearance of normal person instead of celebrity. And one point made by public is that he did not apologize in his speech obviously.

Guns n Roses Vases

I am always fond of the porcelain which pretends itself to be a different object, namely the coke can I have introduced before. Plus I have plastic cups and cartons made of porcelain at my home.

I have been once fascinated by these "Guns n Roses" vases when I saw the real objects in shops. But think twice, I hate guns actually. No matter how powerful a gun is, it is not as appealing as the gun at crotch.

The delicate and elegant tea-set as an art work for displaying is another issue. The creator, Yvonne Lee Schultz as series of art works on the theme of gun which is as still as death which is ghastly and gruesome. I don’t need guns, show me another one instead.

For those ordinary collectors, Prêt-à-Porter is the substitute which is a Ready to wear mass-produced product. The lovely fact is that only 10 US dollars can make a deal while the quality of glitter and limpidity is kept even in this design.
