I’m going to boldly go out there and make a statement. Vintage will never die. It can never die – because for it to die would be to forget our past and history … and people love the feeling that remembering history gives to them. Nostalgia is one of those things that just gives people the warm fuzzies inside. The past always seems and feels less complicated and easier to understand than the future, which is part of the reason why people are attracted to it. Brides embrace this style (and I’m referring to vintage elements, NOT the way a photo is post-processed) because it’s timeless. Done properly, vintage styling is perfect for those of us that love the simplicity of bygone eras and the beauty and fashion from way back when. It’s obviously not for everyone and should only be incorporated into a wedding if the bride personally loves it. As we’ve said before, the litmus test for choosing anything wedding-related should be “Does this really fit me and my personality?”

Anna and I have not seen The Artist yet, but looking at the stills and trailer for it really makes me want to check it out now …

When we set out to do the next set in our ethereal fashion photography, we had something a little different in mind. Inspired by grecian fashion, this is the story of a goddess, once powerful, who fell tragically and regained her strength in the midst of ruins and chaos. It’s a story of vulnerability, and finding strength in that weakness again. It’s a story of beauty in the midst of ugliness.

Jeremy is our second shooter for weddings, and has a great eye for catching details and unique moments. These are some of our favorite photos that he took from last year’s weddings and shoots .. aren’t they amazing?

One of the reasons why we offer a wedding album with all of our wedding packages, is because we feel so strongly about the value of printed material. A boutique album or some large canvases are a much better place for your photos than a hard drive, y’all! You don’t look at the photos on your computer every day, right? But a photo that you walk past in your house gets to be enjoyed daily, and people who come to visit you also can see and enjoy it.

And, like the graphic above points out – technology changes. In a few years, those CDs or hard drives that you have photos sitting around on aren’t going to connect to your computer anymore .. and you’ll wish you had some printed ones to be able to show to your friends or kids. The investment now is so worth it when you can cuddle up on the couch and page through those albums together later … and an LCD screen can never compare to the feeling of turning pages :)

This past weekend, we had an amazing shoot we designed inspired by grecian fashion as part of our Ethereal series of fashion photography (see our other shoots in this series here). More to come later this week!

Oddly enough, Saturday while we were shooting it was so warm that we were wearing short sleeves outside, and then last night we had a wintry mix of sleet/snow/rain (which is all gone this morning, in true Carolina style!). How was everyone’s weekend?

Hope y’all had a great Valentine’s day … Anna and I had a great time reliving our proposal night from 2007, and then seeing The Vow afterwards – which we thoroughly enjoyed. I gave Anna this ring, and asked her if she’d marry me again. Thankfully, she said yes :)

What did you do for the day of love?

That got me to thinking about the importance of going the extra mile (happily!) for our clients, and even people that we interact with outside of business relationships. Sometimes I log into Facebook after a busy weekend, and see wedding vendors complaining about the clients they had to work with, how grouchy their bride was, and how unhappy/sore/tired etc they are. Wow. Is that the kind of attitude we should be portraying? Sure, weddings are hard work … and the work definitely doesn’t end after the wedding day is over either – but putting all of those negative feelings out on the internet for your friends (and potentially, your clients if you friend them on Facebook like we do :) is definitely not the best thing for business.

When you think you’ve reached the limit of what your clients are expecting you to do, surprise them and go even further. Give them some Chinese doughnuts with their order, with a smile. And then look for people who aren’t your clients to do the same thing for. The world would be a better place with a smile, and a little something extra for everyone that brightens their day.
