A marginal movie can become a really good movie if you enjoy the topic.

This was the case when I watched He’s Just Not That Into You.  I thoroughly enjoyed the movie because the topic is compelling:  Do women realize when a guy is just not into them?  The movie is more than that as well…it’s about relationships between men and women. (more…)

Occasionally, I listen to the radio online instead of playing songs from my iTunes. This was the first site that was returned when I searched for “online radio” so I gave it a shot.

This site completely stereotyped me…and I loved it!

Here’s how it works: You put in the name of an artist that you like and it will create a radio station for you.

It was as if I was playing my songs from iTunes but with a much greater selection. I put the name “Dave Matthews” into Pandora because I had just seen that many people were accessing my page on the Dave Matthews Cruise (because he has a new cruise scheduled–you should go by the way, it might just be the best trip you’ll ever take!). All of the sudden I was listening to Dave, Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, and a bunch of other artists I love.

I think I’ll be opening Pandora’s Box everyday. It’s a great, personalized online music site. Check out Pandora when you get a chance.

“Tom Watson Wins the British Open at Turnberry!!!” Will this be the headline we read five hours from now? Can Tom Watson, 2 months short of his 60th birthday, win the British Open today?

We found ourselves similarly situated last year at about this time.  Greg Norman led the British Open by 2.  After the first day, people thought, as Tom Watson said about himself the other day, “Give the old man one day in the sun.”  Then, after day 2, people acknowledged that an old man can play two quality days of golf with the big boys.  Then, after day 3, people took his lead seriously.

What happened?  Greg Norman went on to shoot a 77.  Age, and pressure, finally caught up with him.

So, is there a significant difference between Tom Watson this year and Greg Norman last year?

Yes, there are two:  Age and Pressure.

Tom Watson is 59, just two months away from his 60th birthday.  Last year, the pundits spoke of the impossibility of leading a major at age 53 with Greg Norman.  The oldest winner of a major is 49.  Tom Watson exceeds that by 10 years.  If he wins, this would shatter all age records.

The age difference between the Greg Norman of last year and the Tom Watson of this year pales in comparison to the difference in pressure.   All Golf aficionados (and that is what you are if you get up early to watch the British Open) know the pains of Greg Norman’s golfing career.  Beating himself and being beaten by others was commonplace in the career of Greg Norman.   Who can forget the unforgettable Masters decline?

Tom Watson does not have the pressure of unforgettable defeats.  He has memories of success.  Inducted into the golf Hall of Fame many years ago, this is a possible bonus on an already brilliant career.  And the British Open is the site of Tom Watson’s greatest successes.  As he has said, this is a spiritual experience for him.

So, will the heading in a few hours read Tom Watson Wins the British Open at Turnberry?  Even with the success in the first 3 days this week, and the vast success he has had in the British Open, winning a golf major is not simple.  His putting woes of the past may reappear, his age may get to him, or his very close competitors may mount a charge.

I don’t know that he will win…but I sure hope that he does.

After last years doldrums, with the boys hurtin’ after their movie bombed at Cannes, they are back on top as last season ended with Martin Scorsese offering Vince a lead part in his new movie.

This is good.  We watch the show to live vicariously and who wants to vicariously live through pain.

The Queens Boys are up to their old tricks in the Season 6 Premiere.  Eric, the little Irish munchkin, is finding delights around every turn and his old gal Sloan is jealous and wants him back. (more…)

My first reaction was utter disbelief–he’s too young to be dead!  We received no clues, no warnings, no serious ill-health reports.  For a moment, I thought they must have the report wrong.  How could Michael Jackson be dead?

Like much of America, I tune into Meet the Press on Sunday mornings.

This morning Joe Biden was the guest on Meet the Press with relatively new host David Gregory.

They talked about a myriad of topics but I had trouble listening…because Joe Biden kept commanding me to “Look!”.

I wrote about this previously in a post entitled A Battle of “Looks”: McCain Vs. Obama.

Joe Biden must have said “look” at least 100 times in the show this morning.  Joe Biden has been in government for decades now and has risen to the role of Vice-President.

Doesn’t someone at this level have advisers?  Certainly, the Vice-President has a multitude of advisers who were watching him on Meet the Press this morning. (more…)
