We know the polar bear are facing extinction, but what about the Inuit? (Some may still refer to them as Eskimos.) the Guardian travel pages features an article on a vacation where you can go and live with the Inuit on Baffin Island, Canada. I can never decide whether people/lifestyle tourism goes a step too far, but it's on offer for anyone who's interested in learning how to build their very own igloo.

stickers to save trees

These Come From Trees has come up with a way of reducing paper consumption - sticking a "these come from trees" sticker close-by. Paper towel usage was reduced by around 15% when these stickers were put on the dispenser. Each sticker therefore saves one tree. Wow. Go on, buy a pack of stickers, spread the message, feel the green glow.

Feeling like spreading the green message? TreeHugger t-shirts at cafepress are all full of inspring green messages - I particularly like "do the right thing. we won't tell anyone". I didn't check if they were on organic cotton though.

LibraryThing asks you to put your books in, and it will give you suggestions. Just like amazon, eh? Apart from a bit better, or more reliable, from my brief testing of it. It will also tell you what not to read. Just like Trinny and Susannah.

Threadless T-Shirts lets you design your own t-shirt or pick someone else's design. And, for the less artistic, you can either submit your own slogan, or steal someone else's. Even better, they are printed on everyone's favourite t shirt, American Apparel.

Chockylit compares Martha Stewart's cupcakes to Amy Sedaris's over at Cupcake Bakeshop. Two different people I can't imagine, but personality doesn't come into cupcakes, I guess. For the record, Amy wins, with Martha's cupcakes being described both as "bland" and tasting "like meat". Great sales pitch there.

ban the bulb!

The Guardian gives us great reasons why we need to ban non-eco light bulbs. They've done it in Australia, why not the UK? Already changed your bulbs? Click on one billion bulbs where you can record how many lightbulbs you've changed as part of the challenge to have one billion bulbs replaced world-wide. So far, 30,346 energy efficient bulbs have been installed. I can't even think of how many more that is to a billion. Get changing folks!

Andy Warhol Coming to Edinburgh

Bank of Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland have recently announced the biggest ever sponsorship of modern art in Scotland. The Bank of Scotland is sponsoring Total Art, which, amongst other things, will bring an Andy Warhol exhibition - "Andy Warhol - a celebration of life - and death" in August 07 until October 07. A Joseph Beuys exhibition is also scheduled for November 08. For more information, go to the National Galleries of Scotland site.
