Afternoon arrest broke the peaceful stalemate of the Occupy Raleigh Protest outside of the Old Capitol in Downtown Raleigh. A 6:30 GA is planned to take place as the Occupy Raleigh Protesters regroup and remain determined to have an input into our nation's conversation on Politics.

Occupy Raleigh, NC. Day 11

Tonight's General Assembly of Occupy Raleigh dealt with many issues but none more important than which political party should the group align themselves with. The group will remain on the street in front of the Old Capital building without any endorsement given to the Republican or Democrat Party. One Protester told me they stand with all people and No Political Label can explain their efforts or demands. Offers from individuals attending the GA were made to meet with both major political parties who were interested in discussing the current state of America.

As cities across America begin to deal with their own Occupy Protest movements. The city of Raleigh has continued to provide a police officer for security as the city, the state of NC and the Occupy Raleigh Protesters at the old Capitol continue to rest in a stalemate of mutual respect and general politeness.

The power is on the street and they need your honking horns of encouragement to keep their spirits up. Occupy Raleigh is strong and as each day passes they become a cohesive unit of American's trying to be a solution to help our nation through these tough times....

Ninth Day of Occupy Raleigh. The Protesters and Police seem to be in rhythm with each other as a quietness came over Raleigh this week since the NC State Fair is in town. The Occupy Raleigh library opened this afternoon and was an immediate success. Supporting this protest is as easy as knitting some wool socks or crude shaped mittens.

Protesters at Occupy Raleigh, NC remain committed after 24 hours of drizzling rain and now cooler temperatures. Over the hump of Wednesday the protesters are quickly approaching their first week of solid occupation of the sidewalk at the old capitol building.

The police are still present and seem to have softened their approach from earlier in the week when they would not allow the protesters to sit down or keep their donated supplies close by. There is still no official comment or commitment from the city of Raleigh or the State of North Carolina.

A call went out today for warm gloves and old coats for the protesters. If you wish to help you could donate or knit a hat, gloves or a warm apparel item and drop them by the very appreciative Occupy Raleigh protesters.

Day 4 of Occupy Raleigh at the old Capitol Building. The Protesters are experiencing their first rainy night with donations of ponchos, umbrellas and dry socks. A warm evening with a slight chilly drizzle does not seem to damper the spirits of the protesters. The police car is on site as security and safety as the city of Raleigh and the protesters dig in for a long cold winter.

A true dinning experience close to downtown Raleigh on Capital Blvd. Eating at Casalinga during your visit to Raleigh is as easy as taxi cab or short trip north from downtown.

Time honored tradition using the freshest food has been the Casalinga trademark in Raleigh for over sixteen years. Opened in 1995 by Master Chef and owner Carlo, he has recently been honored by the "prestigious Chaine des Rotisseurs, a worldwide culinary academy founded in 1248, Carlo's title of "Maitre Rotisseur," Master Chef, was conferred on May 2nd, 2006."
Rarely does a restaurant of this quality offer a lunch buffet giving you a chance to find several dishes which will be your favorite.

Casalinga is locally owned and located on Capital Blvd. in the Mini City Shopping center across the street from Lowes, Staples, Sams and Target. For the same price you would pay at one of the many chain restaurants in the area you could get a good home cooked old style Italian meal at a locally owned restaurant admired by the natives of local Raleigh. Casalinga is a "must eat here" if you are in Raleigh for a convention or business and if Raleigh is your home you will become a regular after your first visit.

While the shopping center Casalinga is located is dated and shows some wear from the decades of serving shoppers on Capital Blvd. This small strip mall offers some of the best local food choices in Raleigh. Take some time and walk around the Mini City shopping mall and accept the international aspect this small shopping center offers.

Fayetteville Street with Old Capitol Building at end.

A visit to Raleigh's downtown offers a safe walk through one of America's great state capitals. Starting at the Downtown Raleigh Marriott is the city plaza with its wide open plaza, food and art kiosk and tall stainless steel towers lit by internal color changing LED lights.

Fayetteville street is split between two directions. Memorial Auditorium to the right or left to the old state Capitol building. Unless you are going to a performance at what is also known as the Progress Energy Center, most likely you take a left down the Fayetteville street towards the Old Capitol building.

City Plaza with kiosk and LED Light Towers

Waliking to the Old Capitol on Fayetteville street you are walking in the center of Raleigh's Downtown and this offers you two blocks left of Right to explore for bars and restaurants. If something catches your eye then explore your options. You are also approaching the Silver triangle topped RBC Skyscrapper which is the mid point betwen Memorial Auditorium and the Old Capitol. These are your three most important landmarks as you make your way home on Fayatteville street after a long night of exploring our bars... Basically if a Capitol policeman ask you to dismount the Bronze horse statue on the capital grounds then you have come to the end of Fayetteville street. I quess the same could be said if you are asked to stop banging on the glass doors of Raleigh's performing arts complex.

Slim's Downtown Distillery on Wilmington st.

This scenario could easily happen considering the ease of our southern city and the busy casual night life associated with Raleigh's downtown. I suggest taking a right at the RBC Building and getting a drink at the Mecca which is where you will want to return in the morning to have breakfast. Around the corner on Wilmington Street is Slims which is a late night haunt and a local crowd which will steer you to the coolest bars downtown. There is also a good chance one of our local musicians is hanging out before or after band practice so they can inform you where the best live rocks shows are happening that evening.

TAZ Markets downtown offer late night shopping

Late night six packs and cigarettes can be bought at TAZ's market up from Slims on Wilmington street. This TAZ location is also described as around the corner from The Raleigh Times bar. Late night food is bar food or street vendor food. Catching a late meal at the Raleigh Times or Woody's sport bar is fine but other late night food options are available.

Grab a Rickshaw and tell them you will buy them a Char Grill if they get you there and back. A creator of charitable foundations, a harsh critic of injustice, Elizabeth Edwards carried her fellow human in her heart throughout her life. A woman who made a difference. A woman who loved. A mother and a good wife.

Services for Elizabeth Edwards were held in Raleigh, NC and it is asked you donate to the Wade Edwards Foundation instead of Flowers. The Wade Edwards Foundation runs the Education Labs located across from Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC.

It has hit Raleigh, NC with a ton of Bricks that a group of protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest the funeral service of Elizabeth Edwards. Our city is one minded and will stand before these protesters unlike any town in America. How dare they trample on our state as we mourn.

When North Carolina needs guidance from God we look no further than our own Billy Gram. We debate our beliefs on faith with the seminary at Duke or one of our other fine institutions of Theo learning. Some of the first Christian prayers in America were prayed in North Carolina by the members of the lost colony.

Elizabeth Edwards will remain a part of Raleigh forever. She will rest in the Oakwood Cemetery with such notables as Jim Valvano, Jessie Helms, and countless Governors and Senators who have served our state.

Elizabeth Edwards left a monument to her young son Wade who died in a tragic auto accident 1996. It is located on the St. Marys street ledge of Broughton High School and has become a favorite location for the students. It is directly across the street from the Wade Edwards learning Lab.

Elizabeth Anania Edwards will be missed and she will be remembered. Most importantly she will always have an influence over a city which has adopted her as one of our own. Raleigh Mourns our loss but we cherish our thoughts of Elizabeth Edwards. She is survived by her family and those who love her.

A sad day for Raleigh and a sad day for the Eichenberger family. At 54, Bolyan Heights resident, writer, protester, Raleigh Activist, bike mechanic and a man who carried the weight of the world on his shoulders passed away peacefully having tea Thanksgiving Day 2010. Peter Eichenberger will be missed. Instead of silence, make some noise about the issues which bother you. Don't let his words die with his human body.

Silveradio

Silveradio is the baby of former Connells drummer Peele Wimberley who wrote, performed, produced, and recorded this first release with the help of various friends and acquaintances over the course of a decade. It is an accomplishment that has been influenced by a number of bands, songwriters, and artists, and is a testament to various sounds, interests, and styles. Peele Wimberley has a long history of playing interesting pop music, mainly as a drummer but also with Johnny Quest, The Veldt, Jennyanykind, Parklife, Taylor Roberts, Kyler England, and keys with Lamps. Peele began writing in earnest during his 14 year stint with The Connells, landing one of his first compositions, Bitter Pill, on the soundtrack of the film Scream. He has continued to write and record since then, finally releasing his first album under the guise of Silveradio in August of 2009. Silveradio is influenced by a number of disparate artists from Catherine Wheel to Stevie Wonder to Led Zeppelin to Thievery Corporation. But all of these different artists do not leave a glaring mark on Silveradio's sound, but only enhances its charm and enchantment.

Los Angeles based, Peele Wimberly will not be home to help Raleigh band the Connells open our new Bud Light amphitheater. A Raleigh native and considered the best drummer to grow up in Raleigh, Peele is living the dream far away from home. Vote for his project and remind the world that Raleigh stands behind their own....

There are relics of our first parks along side new advancements in park planning. Time sits still in Chavis Park with drepression area shelters crafted with hand tools and great winter view of the Raleigh Skyline from the nicest round track inside the beltline. Lions Park offers the best in BMX racing and a large portion of Raleigh's tennis courts. Anderson Point offers the best porch swing experience on the east coast. Horse Shoes, organized football, soft and baseball, and outside basketball are only a few of the staples our Parks offer. Sometimes hidden, sometimes blatant, Raleigh's parks always have nature.

Welcome to RaleighRecreation.com. We hope you will find value in our site and you will start the habit of visiting a Raleigh Park near or distant from where you are. This is a private website and has no relation with anyone except LiveRaleigh.com.

Massive shelters with grills and grass fields for Frisbee or ball awaits the Raleigh Park patron. Careful, the countless play grounds in Raleigh may be hot on hot days and the hundreds of tennis courts may be filled as the sun sets year round.

Winter offers a chance to explore hundreds of miles of trails offering bird watching and listening to creek water running over rocks. Some Parks are massive with every aspect of a park, others come alive in warm months when the ball lights shine late into the night. A strip of asphalt and nature is considered a park as Raleigh's Greenway offers every citizen a safe area to walk at their own pace. RaleighGreenway.com

Walking will keep you alive longer than those who do not walk. One foot in front of another as your mind relaxes and your heart starts pumping. A healthy lifestyle is as easy as going to a park in Raleigh.
At any point in Raleigh, a park is near.
RaleighOpenMic.com: A spaceship landed last night, an icon returned years older than his youthful antics at a memorable concert in Chapel Hill, NC.

I heard the story of Bono climbing the scaffolding in the midst of a thunderstorm at the 1983 concert in Chapel Hill. It was a late night party attended by the original air staff of WRDU (Rock). WRDU Music Director Bob Walton, formally of WQDR (AOR Rock) where he kicked started Album Oriented Rock radio in America. Walton sat on the floor, center stage as he relived his first U2 concert.

Walton's face was animated as he built the story to climax:

" I saw that dark thunder cloud coming over the stadium and then Bono started climbing the scaffolding and as he reached the top you could feel the electricity in the air. I knew I was watching greatness, I just didn't think Bono was going to make it down alive. I refused to blink as I watched for Bono to get struck by lightening, I walked away from the show as a real fan of U2."

An old Rocker, a guy who walked backstage at any show he attended. Bob Walton said he will never relive the experience of watching Bono for the first time. After that show in Chapel Hill in 1983, U2 became a mainstay on Raleigh Rock and Roll Radio and then the nation.

On October 3, 2009 the band U2 played on the center floor of NC States football stadium to a sold out crowd of raging fans. The band MUSE opened the show and played a great show to warm the crowd for U2.

A perfect day for tailgating in Raleigh with charcoal smoke and laughter filling the air around Carter Finley Stadium.

A great show with new and old songs, a great light show focused on the performers and a spectacular ending which gave the crowd a comfortable conclusion to a beautiful night.

You shake your head but I found the U2 Show to be rather low tech and Intimate in a grand style. It was a great Rock show rather than a night of special effects and pyro.

A show of International significance, Raleigh hosted one of the great Rock shows to tour in this decade. One of the most important aspects of the concert was to become aware of the issues and causes which are supported by Bono.

Appearing on the circular screen were the photos of Iranian protesters and as the face of Freedom and Democracy appeared on stage as the volunteers from One.org masked their faces with the face of Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi won the 1990 Nobel Peace prize for nonviolent solutions in a country once known as Burma. Her arrest after winning her nation's elections resulted in her confinement for the last twenty years.

The crowd was influenced to give of their influence and ask the world to demand the release of Aung San Suu Kyi.

A cool fall wind filled the parking lot as strangers talked amongst themselves, sang the lyrics and made friends. As the night ended most tried to stay and watch the show load out hoping to see the secrets of the spaceship revealed.

ProtestFilm.com: Sell your U2 concert ticket and give the money to the Helping Hands Mission in Raleigh, NC. Give a few hours and and a few Christmas gifts so their children have something to hold as other children are holding gifts on Christmas Day. Save a neighborhood. Don't take it all.

Everyday for the last twenty-two years, tomorrow and the next day a woman has stood and will stand on a corner and relive the horrible day when Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated at the Loraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.

A bloody shirt, a rifle, the memory of a man whose message was timeless built the National Civil Rights Museum. As time has passed, our nation's Conscience has stood on the corner of Butler and Mulberry to remind us of the toll others pay for peaceful protest so we can live our lives with greed and capitalism.

The tourism of Beale street moves closer every year as it gentrifies and destroys a heritage Black neighborhood so others can live a convenient uptown life in a neighborhood where they did not grow up.

A few years ago Bono of U2 stopped on the corner of Mulberry and Butler to visit Jacqueline Smith and promised Ms. Smith if he (Bono) received any grant money from the National Civil Rights Museum then he (Bono) would spend it in that neighborhood.

Bono took the money and ran and left the neighborhood in need without a penny. Everyone knows he did something good with the money but Bono did not keep his promise with Jacqueline Smith.

I've met principled people in my life but none compare to Jacqueline Smith. She stands everyday to remind others of the sacrifice the poor have to make when the rich can afford the land where their home once set. The impression she has left on the corner of Mulberry and Butler is one of pride, determination and a love for mankind.

She is a woman with only a corner, a few protest signs, a legacy and yet she has given more to her neighborhood than Bono took after he stole 250 thousand dollars from a heritage Black neighborhood quickly disappearing into a tourist trap. The money went to Africa to fight HIV while HIV victims perished a block away.

Just say No to Bono, don't clap, don't cheer, don't go to the concert. Sell your ticket and take the money to the Helping Hands Mission and strive to save Raleigh's own heritage Black neighborhoods. Save a neighborhood. Don't take all of it.

This is not about agreeing. This is about understanding.
