HMS
Birkenhead, also referred to as HM Troopship Birkenhead or Steam Frigate
Birkenhead was one of the first iron-hulled ships built for the Royal Navy.
She was designed as a steam frigate, but was converted to a troopship before
being commissioned.

Liverpool Actor Clive Swift died on 1 February 2019.










Clive Swift was born on February 9, 1936 in Liverpool, as
Clive Walter Swift. His acting career included Excalibur (1981), Frenzy (1972).
He was married to Margaret Drabble. 



Clive was best known for his role as Richard Bucket, the

St. Augustine&#39;s College, Westgate-on-Sea; and University College London.

Prior to the Second World War Britain imported about 55
million tons of food a year from other countries. At the outbreak of war the
German government did what they could to disrupt this trade. Germans battleships

It was a lovely hot and sunny day in May when I took a trip to
8 Hayman&#39;s Green, in West Derby, Liverpool to visit the home of the Casbah
Coffee Club. A large detached Victorian villa, built circa1860 in red brick,
with stone dressings it is two storeys with an attic and more importantly a
basement. This basement is unique because it housed a coffee and music club

In the late 19th century, working-class neighbourhoods and communities were often represented as ‘rough’, substandard, and marginal. Housing conditions were poor and the need for council housing was great. Many people demanded it vociferously, agreeing with the 1945 Labour government that their role in winning the war entitled them to state help with housing.

William Gawin Herdman (also known as W. G. Herdman;
