Gunny Enduro Mountain Bike Race Results

The Gunny Enduro was a great event! Some of Grand Junctions best Athletes came out to put their Mountain Bike Skills to the test. In addition to testing their skills and fitness, we raised money for The Mesa Land Trust. Race your bike, put money towards the purchase of public lands for Grand Junction, sounds like a good day on the bike!

A Mountain Bike Enduro event rewards both riding skills and fitness. Nearly any bike can be used, it is an event that really fits well with the Grand Valley, and the terrain we have here.

Birgit Morris

The trail selected for the event was the Gunny Loop. It has a little bit of everything. Mike Jones with the BLM, and Brent Steinberg worked hard to select a trail that would test the athletes.

Birgit Morris turned in the fastest women’s time of the day at 23:45. Did we mention that she is 12! Way to rock the podium.

Development-Big Results in the Big Leagues

Many of you know the Mullervy Twins. They spent the first half of the 2011 season racing for Livetrainrace.com Cycling Team, until they signed for Exergy Pro Cycling in the summer of 2011. This past weekend started Speedweek, a series of 7 big-time, big-money criteriums all around the South. Saturday was a furious Athen’s Twighlight, one of the biggest races in the country. However, it was race 2 that saw some big moves. Kevin, Ginger #1 made a move in the last few laps with upcoming 2012 Olympian Bobby Lea, and another rider. They made it to the finish with Kevin sprinting in for a strong 2nd!

From all of us at LTR, we want to congratulate Kevin. Kevin is usually the hard worker covering moves, setting up the leadout train, and sacrificing himself for the team. Looks like he was smart, well positioned and made the right move and played the tactics well! For loads of pictures and the writeup, go here.

What is a Team Physician?

Have a bodily injury that prevents you from enjoying the sport you love? Needs some training advice, or want to try a different type of training variable? These are just a few things a team Physician can help with. Look at all the ProTour teams, they all have team physicians. You may have heard of Eric Heiden or Max Testa who work partially with the BMC team. Just like in the big leagues, the Livetrainrace.com Cycling Team also has a team physician.

We have team partners such as Complete Nutrition who helps out with supplements and gives great promotions, information and discounts to local athletes who attend our events. Sanitary Supply and US Cleaning Professionals help us out at events with supplying everything to trash cans and materials to make sure we leave venues cleaner and better than when we arrived. A partner who also makes a big impact is Richard Price, MD. As our team physician, he goes above and beyond to make sure athletes are riding to their fullest potential and enjoying the activity they love.

I worked with Rich last year to help take my training and results to the next level. We did a few programs and personal studies where I sued his knowledge and guidance to achieve results. Some things, such as training with supplemental oxygen and altitude sleep high/train low experiments are something the average person might not do, but with resources like Rich, his vast knowledge can help in any case.

The past year and a half I have had a knee pain that has been sharp at times and dull at others. After not being able to train, let alone barely ride without extreme pain, I went to the advice of our LTR team physician. Rich Price understands what it means to live an active lifestyle, and he helped move the what could have been timely process along very rapidly. In just a few days of taking my own action, I had an MRI, consultation with Price. We looked at the issue, gave some options and talked about a solution. As a sports medicine doctor, Rich was able to quickly connect me to orthopaedic knee surgeons who specialize and can help with my issue. I already have a plan of action, a date, and am thoroughly looking forward to recovering and getting back on the bike pain free.

I have been thoroughly impressed how far Rich has gone to make sure my problem is quickly taken care of and acted upon in the best manner to make sure I am back to what I love doing as soon as possible. And if you don’t know what that is, let me give you a hint: Riding bikes and ripping others’ legs off! (and maybe destroying Strava segments!)

Monument Madness Hill Climb

We kicked off 2012 cycling season with a great time trial race up Little Park Road, in Grand Junction. Time Trial is known as the “Race of Truth”. It pits the athlete against the clock. There is no pack to gain a draft from, it is just the racer pushing themselves to go harder and faster. Ascending 2100′ in 7 miles with grades exceeding 15% would certainly test each athlete.
