Over the last few days, I started noticing an increase in iPhone 3GS advertisements on the streets. Popping up everywhere, on bus stop routes, sides of buildings. Some have lights connected and are lit up all night.

Microfinance in Africa: Bringing Financial Services to Africa’s Poor, finds that simple Village Savings and Loan Associations – run primarily by poor women with no outside capital investment – successfully weathered the financial crisis while providing loans to many of Africa’s poorest people. The report tells of women – many living on less than $2 a day – who pooled a few pennies and made small loans to help people start small businesses.

Kodak Express in China - Kodak, one of the top film making companies in the world. Over 5000 outlets in China.

Kodak has been developing a formidable sales, marketing and distribution network. This hangs on the presence of Kodak Express photographic development shops, of which there are now more than 5,400 in China. These are not franchise operations, but branded outlets which are independently owned, explains Michael O'Connell.

The way it works is that each store owner has to invest in the real estate and in the mini lab, which can cost anywhere between US$30,000 and US$50,000. Kodak provides store layout, signage and storefront materials, worth around US$5,000 per store, and supports that commitment with training. Kodak also encourages the store owners to keep the outlets looking smart and running efficiently, as well as advising them on maintenance of the mini labs. The Kodak Express store owner agrees to use only Kodak paper and only to stock Kodak film.

The results of this strategy have been successful. Sales in 2000 were up 11 per cent on the previous year and earnings up 53 per cent. Kodak now sells more film in China than in Japan.

You asked for it, so here it is. The new chicken nugget sauce at McDonald's in China. The first one is like an Italian Parmesan, kind of a sweet spaghetti sauce flavor, very good, my favorite! The next is a chinese sweet and sour sauce, more of a sweet flavor then the regular sweet and sour you would get at your local Micky D's.
