Meat counter at Fresh Market

It is very rare to find only one customer at the Fresh Market meat counter. As a result I took the opportunity to show our favorite place to buy meat and produce. Fresh Market is a short ten minute drive form downtown Greenville. Click here to see their location.

What does one do on a rainy overcast Saturday in Greenville South Carolina. Will in our case we had bagels at Coffee Underground, worked on the DailyPhotoMap, then we dropped by Barnes and Noble. In addition this evening we are going out to eat at a bed and breakfast (La Bastide) a few miles outside of town.

Hopefully the sun will shine tomorrow and I can take some photos.

Red buds and parking lot

Rocks for a rock garden

These rocks were recently moved into the River Place construction site. It is my understanding they are being used to build a rock garden next the Reedy River. Click here to see the rocks being used.

BMW Zentrum

A few other city photo blogs have posted photos of cars today. So in that sprite I am posting a photo I took at the BMW Zentrum. Because Greenville is the headquarters for BMW North America they built an automotive museum. In addition they have a very large manufacturing plant in Greenville where they build the Z4 Roadster and X5 SUV.
In fact I drive a BMW Roadster when I am not walking to work. My car is shown in the photo on the left.

My wife and I are discussing our next car purchase. At present we have it narrowed down to a Mercedes Benz or a Hybrid.

However Eric, at the Paris Daily Photo site , posted a photo of a Smart Car today. This lead me to do some research and I have found a concept Mercedes-Benz bionic (some call it the Mercedes smart car). Do you think I can talk my wife into a Mercedes Smart Car? Could you talk you spouse into a Mercedes Smart Car?

Pirate flag

It is not often I find a business which flys a pirate flag. But sure enough City Collision Repair flys a pirate flag as shown in this photo.

This photo has not be photo shopped. They really do fly the pirate flag.

Interestingly I could not find a Yellow Page listing for them however in another photo their phone number is shown as 271-9297. Also, click here for a Google map showing roughly their location so you can drive by and see the flag.

Downtown Baseball 2006

It was rainy today so we rode the trolley which runs between the Hyatt and the new baseball stadium. It is a temporary service until the stadium opens. At that time the trolley will be used to shuttle between parking garages and the stadium.

As the sign says "Downtown Baseball 2006 Be There!".

I am attempting to take panning shots of passing vehicles. However, I am not having much luck with it yet. In this photo the shutter speed was fast enough that there was no blur of the background even though I was moving the camera as the trolley passed by me. I will have to try a slower shutter speed.

Eminent domain

This photo shows construction of a staircase giving public access to the Reedy River. The land on which the staircase is built was part of three different law suites over eminent domain. Each of the cases returned verdicts in favor of the landowners who lost their land. The total of the three law suites was $5.4 million. Shorts weather

The cold weather returns tomorrow however today it was great. The lady next the river was one of several people who were wearing their shorts today.

Notice the construction in the background. This construction is part of three different law suites over eminent domain. I will post more about that tomorrow.

Reasonably priced homes

These photos show some very reasonably priced homes downtown. Notice the BB&T building the background. The price range, for housing downtown, varies from reasonable to outrages.

These photos were posted to show the range of prices for housing. As time progresses other photos will be posted showing homes and condos in the higher price ranges. In my opinion Greenville is doing a good job of attracting housing projects at all price levels.

Daffodils

Daffodil blooms cover the hillside at the Governor's School for the Arts. I enjoyed the flowers and the sunshine today when I went for a walk today.

It has been cold these last few days however the flowers are blooming and the cherry trees are starting to bloom.

The Poinsett Bride

As a Valentines day photo I have chosen to highlight The Poinsett Bride. This is a shop at 101 West Court Street in downtown Greenville. In fact they are a shop on the first level of the condo complex in which we live. So often we see brides selecting dresses as we leave the condo for a stroll downtown.

I found Royal Cleaners method of storing and retrieving dry cleaned clothes to be interesting. They were nice enough to let me take this photo.

Royal Cleaners has been in business since 1926. They are located at 114 Falls which is very convenient for those of who live downtown in Greenville.

Menopause The Musical

This trailer was parked at the Peace Center, Greenville's performing arts center. The yellow comment at the back of the trailer says "The Aging Out Loud Tour www.mtmoutloud.org".

School children and the arts

It appears the Greenville Public School system has a cozy relationship with Greenville's performing arts center. Often as I walk past the Peace Center at noon there are several buses in front. I can only assume the children are on a field trip which involves exposure to the arts. I think this is an outstanding indicator that Greenville is a good place to raise a family.

Condos at The Park

A bandstand in McPherson park is in the foreground of the photo above. While the condo complex called The Park downtown can seen in the background.

SCOG's Log Cabin

The Senior Citizens Of Greenville (SCOG) Country Store, at 102 E Park Ave, is in McPherson Park where I took a walk Sunday. Click here to see a Google map showing he location. For more information visit the Senior Action website.

In addition to the Country Store the park has a senior citizens center, lighted tennis courts, bandstand/shelter, playground, miniature golf and shuffleboard court. The park also has a new condo development next to it. More on the condos tomorrow.

The photo on the left shows a sign advertising the SCOG log cabin craft store. You can also see the store along with the condos mentioned in the back ground.
