When it comes to bidding wars, there’s not much that weary Toronto home buyers haven’t seen. Or is there?

If you’ve been in the fray of multiple offers and taking a beat down, or just observing the Toronto bidding war circus from the sidelines, you’ll enjoy the story of the bidding war that drove up the asking price of what is now the most expensive parking space in Boston. And least for today!

$300,000 price sets record – for parking (The Boston Globe)

The is the clearly-not-original front door of the Osterhout Log Cabin. A nearby plaque advises it’s the oldest building in Scarborough, built in 1795 by Augustus Jones. Jones was commissioned by John Graves Simcoe, First Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, to survey Scarborough. William Osterhout later received the first Crown Grant of the land from King George III in 1805.

However, a Google search (william + osterhout + scarborough) finds a number of articles that claim Jones wasn’t the builder, that Osterhout received his Grant much earlier and that there is no record he ever lived on the Scarborough property. So what’s up with the name?

The Cabin is situated in Toronto’s Guildwood Park and thus owned by the City, so it’s not going on the market any time soon (read: never).

But what if it could be sold? I’d LOVE to write the marketing material for this gem. No concerns that this is a fixer-upper (no granite countertops, let alone indoor plumbing!), as it’s all about location, location, location for this one. Situated high on the Scarborough Bluffs, overlooking Lake Ontario, does it get any better? No, actually, it doesn’t.
