As you know I am a BIG proponent of making a mess and  letting it flow. 

This weekend I decided I want to get more comfy with figures. Because of my weird spatial dyslexia, when I draw "realistically" everything is backward. I really have to SLOW DOWN and SEE the lines. 

This activity actually takes quite a bit of effort on my part and it can be exhausting, but it's also fun to challenge myself to stay out of the CRITIC. 

You know, "Geez, that sucks!" "A third grader draws better than that!" Etc...ad nauseum. 

I pulled out a figure drawing book I found in my grandmother's closet after she passed. It's been here a long time, but I've never sat down with the conscious intention to use it. I did yesterday. 

It was a blast as it was like having an aspect of her guiding spirit right here in the room with me. BTW...I worked on the floor of my home office! 

I invited the gremlins to sit in the corner...what helped? 

I told them I was doing figure drawing...

Wanted to update you with a painting I created in the studio on Monday. 

When we say "I don't have time."

I think it's really important to look at the deeper meaning of that phrase.

What is hiding in the shadows? 

This paining birthed in about 1.5 hours.

Yes...I have a studio and my stuff is out on a table.

Yes...I work for myself...

but I'm here to tell you that when I first started painting in 1999...

I painted on my hands and knees on a tarp and was working two jobs. 

There was something very HOLY about that!

I spent the weekend rearranging my home office. 

A friend came by to help me visualize a way to make it feel more cozy.

It's amazing how the simple things like light and furniture placement can make all the difference. 

Sunday I painted in the studio. I've felt the simmering for awhile.

This began as a blank page with a series of loops.

Completely unplanned. 

NO EXPECTATION...NO IDEAS

One of the most powerful things about Everyday Bliss

has been to learn to awaken to the beauty around me.

This simple act has brought me so much peace, gratitude and joy...

How do I do this?  

I carry my iPhone with me at all times.

Sure, it's not a PRO camera,

but it allows me to SEE my world every time I walk out the door.

Clients continually tell me they have no time to create...

Hmmm...perhaps it's as simple as a change of definition.

How do you BLISS?

So...since turning 50 + 2 this weekend, I've taken to pondering...

what exactly does it mean to "act your age?

This is a confusing time to be a woman over a certain age...

You've all heard...

40 is the new 30...

50 is the new 40..

but what does all that REALLY mean...

and who exactly determines these things?

Am I supposed to follow these instructions?

or do I get to make my own? 

And now that I'm past that mid-life marker 

I ask you...

what's 52 supposed to act like?

in the end...

I guess it all boils down to one thing gals...

we get to ACT the age we feel inside and in the end make our own rules!

When energy needs to surface, I take to the page.

I can feel the tension and imagine it looks like a pot ready to boil over.

That's what happened in the studio yesterday after a wonderful morning with client.

Step 1: Pace and clean the studio :)

Step 2: Get out Portfolio Oil Pastels (YUMMY!)

Step 3: Get out large newsprint pad

Step 4: Take a big deep breath, feel inside, pick up the first color that speaks to me

Step 5: Let 'er rip!

I have come to luv my self-care Wednesdays. 

Yesterday I had an amazing acupuncture session with my medicine woman Nancy. She reminded me that in many traditions the period for grief is symbolically one year. 

I arrived home after spending the afternoon with Annie Two Moons, to find postal treasures from my nephew awesome nephew John and my friend Kathy. 

John made a holiday donation in my name to this organization and Kathy sent me a Spirit Horse by

this artist.
