God has blessed our group with a vigorous, engaged membership that continues to grow and grow. Amen! The number of clubs that we are running, the educational co-op, and the many services and events that our members enjoy continue to increase. Thank you all so much for the contributions you make to our support group successful.

We have long wanted to upgrade our website so that we can streamline these services. It has finally happened! In the upcoming weeks, we will be transitioning away from our old familiar website to a new website hosted by Homeschool Life. Here are some of the benefits and new features you will enjoy:

There will be a public page (for visitors) and a secured, members-only page for those who are members of LWHE.
You will set up your own family account when you log on, enter your family info, and pay your membership fee.
Payment for LWHE Membership and for LWE co-op (among other things) can be done on the new website through Paypal, Debit or Credit.
Registration for co-op classes will be done online.
There is a forum available for teachers to use with the students in their class(es).
There will be a general forum for homeschooling or other topics, which will replace the Yahoo Group, AND a weekly news summary of upcoming events.
You will be able to print out your own membership card.
There will be a secured, online directory of families, replacing the pdf that is emailed out.
There is a photo gallery which can only be viewed from the private/members-only page.
All LWHE info and all sign-ups for trips, events, co-op will be centralized and can be done from the comfort of your home.

Certainly, there will be kinks to work out and we ask for your grace and for your prayers as we make this transition.

Auditions for LWHE's Annual Talent Show

It's that time of year again - time to show everyone that LWHE has TALENT!

Last year's show was a smashing success. I was so happy to see the amazing talents of our homeschooled students.

Please reply to Angie at taylorseven@verizon.net if you would like to participate. ALL acts MUST be prescreened for both time and content. This will take place at Easton on March 19th. Once you sign up, you will receive an e-mail with the exact time of your child's screening. (We try to accommodate everyone, so please let us know of any scheduling conflicts you may have.)

Stream Sampling: we will be putting on boots and jumping into the stream to explore the insects and other things (ew) living in our streams. We will determine how clean our streams are by sampling. Hands on trip of learning which should be a lot of fun. Of course we will have to hike to get to the streams off of the Rancocas Creek.

2012 Strider's Track & Field

Mark your calendars, it's time for Striders Track & Field!!

My name is Mike Ricci, one of the Mt. Laurel Strider Coaches. This spring the Striders will be entering our 23rd year here in Mt. Laurel. The Striders are a Youth Track, Road Racing and Cross-country team. The club is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 years of age.

We are a private organization which allows us to have certain luxuries that Rec-council or Township clubs do not have. One being we accept children from all-over; you do not have to be a Mt. Laurel Resident to join our team. The Striders belong to AAU, USATF and the SJTFA, the last pertaining to the upcoming track season.

Our track season begins March 21st, weather permitting, and our first meeting is a meet and greet, and ends in June with a Championship meet. There are 12 other South Jersey teams we compete with, they are local teams.

Our Practices are on Monday's and Wednesday's, 6 P.M., and our meets are on Saturday mornings, ending at noon. Our practices are held at the Lenape High School Track and usually last about an hour, maybe a few minutes longer.

The Striders run all year, at the conclusion of the track season, the children enjoy road racing. We are currently in our winter season program which will end in March.

We keep the team small by design, so that we are able to give the children the attention and support they need to become better athletes. At the meets we compete in all track events, 100, 200, 400, 1500, 3,000, High Jump, Long Jump and softball throw. The Lenape school district does not permit us to use the High Jump equipment, so we learn at the meets.

We are primarily a long distance team, but all NEW children that come on the team are trained in the shorter distances until we feel they are ready for the longer distances.

Our first meeting is a " Meet and Greet", which I feel is important, since we are a private team, there are NO CHARGES to be on this team, a local business man supports the team, pays for track fees, insurance fees, all AAU, USATF and meet fees. Teams that your child will compete against pay upwards of 200 dollars to be on those teams. The only thing that is requested is a commitment to the team. There are no "bake-sales", no "promotions ", you are not asked in any way to raise money for the team.

Saying all of that, if a parent seems to be a bit too aggressive with his child, "meaning he or she has to win at any cost", we will ask you to leave. I feel that every child will develop on his or her own time; we stress improvement, not necessarily winning.

Once we add your name to our address book, we will receive all e-mails including the winter racing program, (which is currently in session), that way you still have a feel for the team, and you will receive the spring track schedule.

Last two things, all of our coaches are "back-ground" checked as far as the law permits, and that includes parents who join the team. You would be surprised what a name and address will tell you about someone, and last, your e-mail address will never be shared with anyone, unless you authorize it.

Hello all,
Just a remind that our next classes at Cedar Run will be held on Thursday, February 9th. Here are the topics:

Ages 6+: (1-3 p.m.) The Chill of Snow & Ice: Brrr…it’s cold outside! Learn about the formation of snow, who lives under the ice, and even try to make your own snowshoes on this chilly winter adventure. We will be outside for most of this class--remember to dress for the weather!

Ages 3-5: (1-2:30 p.m.) Oh, Those Crazy Squirrels!: Squirrels, squirrels, and more squirrels. Learn about these misunderstood critters and how they aren’t as bad as we make them out to be! An adult MUST remain with the child during the class. If you have children in both groups, you are welcome to explore the refuge, use our play room, etc. will you are waiting for the older class to finish.

Hi everyone!

IOWA Standardized Testing is being offered to homeschoolers this spring!

**This is open to any local homeschoolers who wish to participate. Please feel free to share this notice on other non-Living Water sites.**

WHERE: Easton Bible Church, 2407 Fostertown Road, Hainesport, NJ
WHEN: May 15th-May 17th (Tuesday through Thursday) from 9:00am - 12:00pm
COST: Last year the tests cost was around $40. There will also be a building fee cost which will be divided between the number of families that will be participating. We anticipate that amount to be no more than $10 per family (not per student), though it could be significantly less. It all depends on how many families sign up. The actual cost per student/family will depend on how many students sign up for testing and will be determined at a later date.

HOW TO SIGN UP:

STEP #1: Read the IOWA Testing FAQ. This will answer any questions you may have regarding the test itself. It will also help you in determining what grade level to have your child tested in.

STEP #2: Use this link to sign your child up for testing: www.lwhe.org/machform/view.php?id=10 . Carefully complete ALL the information requested. Testing is available for Grades Kindergarten through High School. Deadline to sign-up is BY MARCH 25TH.(Please note that orders WILL NOT be received after March 25th. Once we have received all the orders, we will inform you of the total fee amount. You will be contacted about who to mail your payment to at that time.)

STEP #3: To help prepare your child for testing, please read Preparing Child for IOWA Testing.

STEP #4: Be on the lookout for future emails regarding IOWA Testing.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! In order to provide testing, we need proctors! The only requirement to administer the IOWA tests is for someone to have a bachelor's degree. If you are willing to serve in this manner, please indicate so when you sign-up online.

Lastly, please note that parents and children who are not taking the test will not be able to stay in the building while testing is taking place. You will need to drop your child(ren) off and return at the designated time to pick them up.

Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford is excited to announce that registration for our third season of UPWARD Flag Football and Cheerleading is now open!

FLAG FOOTBALL for boys and girls in grades K-8th.
CHEERLEADING for girls in grades K-5th.

Boys and girls learn basic skills and Christ-like character, and every child plays every week! The season runs from mid-March through the end of June. There is an end-of-season banquet on June 22nd. There is one practice per week and games are held on Saturday mornings or early afternoons.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (District 28-Essex) has filed a bill, A1375, that would require any parent intending to homeschool a child in New Jersey to file a notice with the local public school superintendent by August 15 containing the child's name, age and residence.

Her bill would result in the filing of 44,000 pieces of needless paperwork every year one for every homeschooled child in the state. Under her bill, parents could lose the right to homeschool their child merely because they miss the deadline. If the parents tried to homeschool anyway, they could be taken to court or investigated by DYFS.

New Jersey already has a sensible legal framework for homeschooling that has worked for over 40 years. It requires parents to provide an education equivalent to what public schools provide. No changes are needed.

If you live in Assemblywoman Tucker's district, please call her at (973) 926-4320 and ask her to withdraw A1375. Your courteous message can be as simple as:

"Please withdraw A1375. New Jersey has a sensible legal framework for homeschooling right now. No changes are necessary."

Background
A task force composed of HSLDA, Education Network of Christian Homeschoolers, Catholic Homeschoolers of New Jersey, New Jersey Homeschool Association, and National Black Home Educators, and others, opposes A1375.

I was recently asked: "What's wrong with adding a requirement that homeschoolers file a simple notice each year?" I responded: "Would this improve any child's education?" The candid answer I received was "No."

Both nationally and looking at New Jersey by itself, homeschoolers score at least 30 percentile points higher on standardized tests than others. Homeschool students receive an outstanding education and are courted by many colleges.

8th Grade Graduation Plans are Taking Shape!

If you have an 8th grader and want to celebrate the end of their middle school years (and the beginning of those high school years!) then jump in on the LWHE 8th Grade Graduation. There are already over 30 grads!!

This promises to be a heart-warming evening. There will be the traditional rose/diploma exchange, a powerpoint presentation featuring photos of your grad, wonderful music and refreshments afterward, too!
