Singer, songwriter and guitarist David Walton will be back at the Lazy Beagle for another live performance this Friday night, Feb. 17, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Walton, also known as a singer and lead guitarist for the homegrown 4-piece rock and ballads band, the Raddyos, is the author of the recent topical folk-rock hit, “What the Frack.”

Each winter, Catskill Art Society invites everyone to the CAS Arts Center for a fundraising event featuring a sampling of food and beverages from a different location around the world. This year, we’re setting sail for Jamaica! The Reggae Riot Party with dinner and dancing happens Saturday, February 18,  6:30-9:30 p.m. at CAS, 48 Main Street, Livingston Manor, NY.

Livingston Manor, NY —  On February 11, 2012, Fifty Fly Tyers will informally gather and shed their cabin fever in a fly tying frenzy at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum (CFFCM)  at 9 a.m. Now in its 7^th year, Fly Fest continues to grow and brings out the best in fly tying. 

Fly Fest is a great day to spend with friends and share in the day.  As always  a wide array of talent and tyers will be on hand to help you learn new patterns. Sponsored by  local Roscoe retailer Catskill Flies and Classic Trout.com, and supported by SparseGreyMatter.com.  Visitors  are encouraged to bring their tying gear and join in the fun.

The Best of Contest is now in its 16^th year and now involves more than 2000 ballots from all over Wayne, Pike, Sullivan and Orange Counties.

A special “Best Of …” supplement to the newspaper will feature the Trout Parade’s win and all the other category winners and will be on newsstands in late January.

The Trout Parade, now a Livingston Manor tradition, was launched in 2004 and features zany costumes, colorful puppets, raucous music and many supporting events — all with trout-related themes.

The Catskill Art Society produces the Trout Parade in partnership with the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce, and with support from businesses and individuals from around the community. Proceeds from the event benefit a variety of cultural programs for children in Livingston Manor as well as Catskill Art Society.

The Board of CAS has appointed Ann Manby as the incoming Executive Director, effective January 21. Ms. Manby, a resident of Roscoe, has served as a Director on the CAS Board since March 2009. Since joining the Board, she has been actively involved on numerous committees to raise awareness for CAS through marketing and community partnerships, event planning, the building acquisition and most recently to help develop and launch CAS’s 40^th Anniversary Capital Campaign. Ms. Manby was also instrumental in arranging for CAS to produce the community’s annual Trout Parade in partnership with the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce.  “While I am sorry to see Kathryn go, I am delighted to assume this role during the organization’s 40^th Anniversary year and look forward to working with the Board and members of the community to plan and ensure CAS’s future,” said Manby. Ms. Manby’s background includes more than 15 years of marketing and public relations experience and several senior management and entrepreneurial roles, most recently as the owner of many small businesses. Since relocating to Sullivan County in June 2008, she has worked remotely to provide marketing and public relations services to small businesses, many locally based, and in March 2011 launched Sugar Blossom Flowers, a year-round provider of fresh flowers that also offers a Summer Flower Share program featuring locally grown flowers from multiple growers.

CAS will reopen Saturday, January 21 with a new exhibit, Middle Ground, featuring the work of artists Kathe Blackbird Frantz and Matthew Zappala. Please join us for an Artist Talk at 1pm and an Opening Reception from 2-4pm that day. The exhibition will run through February 26.

LIVINGSTON MANOR – On October 8, 2011, in a ceremony held at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, Doug Swisher and Carl Richards (posthumously), Cathy & Barry Beck, Roderick Haig-Brown (posthumously) and John Alden Knight (posthumously) were inducted into the International Fly Fishing Hall of Fame.
This honor is bestowed on those who have made a significant contribution to fly fishing and to the history of the sport for all.
Doug Swisher (Hamilton, MT), Cathy and Barry Beck (Benton, PA) were present to personally accept the award in addition to Alecia Richards and Celia Haig-Brown (accepting for deceased husband and father respectively). There were no family survivors to accept the award on behalf of John Alden Knight. Previous Hall of Fame recipients Joan Wulff, Mary Dette, Al Caucci and Art Lee were present for the ceremony.
The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is home to the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame; the Harold Demarest Bamboo Rodmakers Gallery; the Poul Jorgensen Golden Hook Award; the Catskill Rodmakers Gathering; and the Hardy/Greys Brothers Cup.

Celebrating 40 Years at CAS

The Catskill Art Society is pleased to announce the 2011 CAS Gallery Grab Benefit, Saturday, Oct. 22, 6 to 9 p.m., The Gallery Grab is an annual fundraising gala in which 25 lucky guests will be able to leave with a work by a local artist and everyone else will take home a special gift.  But there’s more…

This year’s Gallery Grab is a momentous event because it celebrate CAS’s 40th anniversary (1971 – 2011) and it welcomes a new and more stable future in the community – CAS is now in contract for the purchase of their fabulous space.  After only four years in residence at 48 Main Street in Livingston Manor, CAS has seized a wonderful opportunity to secure its future for the next 40 years and beyond.  CAS invites everyone to join in the launch of its 40th Anniversary Fund Drive at the Gallery Grab, asking participants, members and the community to contribute an additional $40, $400, or $4,000 to their regular gift.
