Kat Parker independently rescues, fosters, and places cats. She is responsible to pay for everything out of her own pocket. This year she is dealing with more medical expenses for her foster kitties than ever before, and also her own cat Miss Sammy is 19 and not doing well at all.

Queen Sheba needs some heavy duty surgery---pelvis is broken on both sides, smashed on one side, and her hip is completed dislocated from the socket.

Probably on Tuesday, Kat will take foster Queen Sheba the Calico to the vet's for serious surgery. Queen Sheba has been suffering for some time. Kat has about $1,000 for Queen Sheba but the surgery will be about $3,000. It happened again. It shouldn't be a surprise, but it is.

A few weeks ago, 40 endangered African elephants – including young calves and newborns – were massacred in two different national parks in Cameroon. When found, their bodies were close together, indicating that the poachers were armed with incredibly powerful weapons and killed them in one fell swoop.

Please give what you can today. We don't know when the last elephants will perish at the hands of these ruthless poachers, but we do know it will happen soon if we don't step in as soon as we can and whenever we can.

Just recently, a group of 86 elephants in Chad were slaughtered over the course of two days. Among the victims were 30 pregnant females. Their calves were shot or left to die alone without the care of their mothers.

Monsanto, the chemical giant that gave us poisons like Agent Orange and DDT, has a super-profitable racket. Step 1: Develop pesticides and genetically modified (GM) seeds designed to resist them, patent the seeds, prohibit farmers from replanting their seeds year to year, then send undercover agents out to investigate and sue farmers who don't comply. Last year, Monsanto and biotech giants spent a whopping $45m to kill a ballot initiative that would have labelled GMO products just in California, despite 82 percent of Americans wanting to know if they are buying GM. And just this month, the company helped ram through the "Monsanto Protection Act," that blocks courts from stopping the sale of a product even if they've been wrongly approved by the government.

Monsanto's power in the US gives them a launch pad to dominate across the world. But brave farmers and activists from the EU, to Brazil, to India and Canada are resisting and starting to win.

Monsanto is driving an industrial farming takeover -- trampling small farmers and small businesses as vast 'monoculture' farms of single crops leech the land of nutrients, diminish genetic diversity, and create dependency on fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals. The irony is, it's not clear that the decimation of natural, sustainable farming has brought any boom in crop yields. Just more profit for the corporations. Our governments should step in, but Monsanto's lobbying obstructs them.

Monsanto's near monopoly is breath-taking, with patent rights over 96% of the GM seeds planted in the US. And despite concerns about health and safety, the same patents allow Monsanto to prevent any farmer or scientist from testing their seeds! Still, a few countries have banned or restricted Monsanto products.

They claim their products cost less, but often farmers are lured into multi-year contracts, then seed prices rise, and they have buy new seed each season and use more herbicides to keep out 'superweeds'. In India, the situation is so dire that one cotton area has been called 'the suicide belt', as tens of thousands of the poorest farmers have taken their lives to escape crippling debt.

But farmers and scientists are also fighting back -- and winning. One group in India has helped win three patent battles against the corporations, and in Brazil five million farmers sued Monsanto for unfair collection of royalties, and won a $2 billion payout! Scientists are campaigning for sustainable agriculture models, and just last week 1.5 million of us joined the fight against conventional patents in the EU.

Only a massive, global, united force can stand up to Monsanto and the corporate capture of our governments. Let's expose this dominance of our democracies, help farmers speak out, challenge unjust laws and patents, and go head to head with the corporate lobbies. Pledge $4 to support action now:

Donkey was rescued by Lost But Loved Animal Rescue in 2012 when just weeks old. Had to be bottle fed. He did not have a good start. Halter was embedded in his head :-(

He is recovering from the leg surgery. Laura wrote on Facebook photo/thread, "Incision is a bit oozy today. They are keeping him over the weekend now so they can be sure it doesn't get infected. they are all still hopeful he will make full recovery even tho radial damage not improving quickly"

Laura wrote, "He was laying down taking a nap and stood up. Not sure how he did it. He may have put too much weight leaning forward when he got up and broke it that way, but really have no idea."

Homer AKA Donkey was rescued around Christmas of 2012. Found with a halter growing in his head and emaciated he's come a long way. April 13th, 2013 he broke his leg, his growth plate was broken completely through on his right front leg. Luckily he is young and was given a good prognosis if surgery happened quickly. After being seen by TN Equine Associates he was referred to UT Knoxville's emergency clinic. After being trailered there the night of the 13th he is now awaiting surgery. He will need two pins and several screws put in his broken bones. The surgery alone costs $4500, plus $650 for an emergency call and initial x-rays with the Nashville Vet. He will need x-rays every 3 months for the next year to ensure the plate isn't interfering and it is healing properly, each of these trips will cost $500-$600. These plates will be over his growth plate and because he is only 8 months old they may have to be removed, this will be yet another $1500-$2000. This lil' trooper has come a long way and we are refusing to give up on this tough little donkey. We MUST raise the money to pay for his surgery and continued vet care. We have set our goals at $8500. As you can see this will not totally cover what he needs to be seen by proper vet staff, have pain management and continued care/x-rays so he can heal properly. All we are asking is a portion to get us started, get him into surgery ASAP and get him on the road to being healthy again. We need your help! Every day we fight for animals that have been neglected, abused, starved, mistreated and have never known love. We will not let lil' Homer suffer in our care. Although we simply DO NOT Have the funding for this we are trusting that we can raise the money. Around $4000 is needed when we pick him up April 20th to be able to bring him back home to continue his recovery. Please HELP HOMER!

If you've read the news lately, you know that elephants – including mothers and their vulnerable calves – are in constant danger of being poached.

Last year, an estimated 25,000 elephants were killed for their tusks. At that rate, the species won't last more than two decades.

It's not too late to protect Africa's remaining elephants, but we need to act fast. Your support could not come at a more critical – or dangerous – time.

On the black market, ivory brings in over $1,000 per pound – a quick profit if the goods can be traded in volume. And organized crime syndicates are perfectly willing to do a volume business.

They have figured out that by using AK-47s, grenade launchers, night-vision goggles, GPS and low-flying helicopters, elephants are easy to pick off. And as long as they can get their gruesome stash of tusks through customs, they can net an enormous profit.

African Wildlife Foundation has programs in place that work to stop poachers – but we need your help to expand them quickly.

In the field, we're training scouts to patrol conservation parks. In airports, we're using sniffer dogs that can detect the smell of ivory being smuggled through customs. And in the halls of government, we're working to develop policies that discourage poaching and protect crucial animal habitats.

Selmer of Advanced Animal Care Center in a live and free educational library seminar for pet owners who want to know the truth about veterinary care and nutritional holistic treatment options. On Thursday, April 25 at 7pm pet owners can 'Ask the Vet' about pet nutrition and other questions they may have about their pet's health.

Dr. Selmer will be speaking about holistic and preventative veterinary medicine, as well as answer any questions from the audience. Pet owners that are seeking information about alternative options of veterinary care or just want to know more about veterinary treatment today, what may or may not work best for their pet are encouraged to attend this event. Often times, pet owners leave their vet's office and are not sure if it's the right course of treatment or feel that their questions went unanswered but may not have another way to get their questions answered. This 'Ask the Vet' event will help those pet owners that want to learn how to treat, take care of and help their pets live a longer, healthier life. Dr. Selmer will answer questions and give attendees information that most veterinarians will not want pet owners to know. This is a free library event! Dear Friends,

Being a guard dog in Spain is a terrible destiny, it means being kept tied to a chain all the time, with no shelter from the cold in winter and the heat in summer, in rain or snow. Noche and Black spent all their lives like that although they are collie mixes and adorable, no guard dog material at all. A wonderful rescuer from Madrid we all know, Cristina Muñoz, tried to convince the "owner" to give them to her already five years ago but he said no. She then went to visit them every day with treats, trying to give them some affection in their loneliness. Then the man suddenly moved and she never saw the doggies again. Until recently, when she found them in the local killing station. She cried bitterly to see them so much older and in such a terrible place, Black with an eye gone and very infected (they don't treat the hurt or sick animals at the killing station and they only have the cement floor to lie down, no matter how cold it gets), Noche so fragile and sad; they are now 10 years old and of course, the man had not wanted them anymore.

Now time is running out for them, sometime next week they will be put down without having lived one single day of happiness, and I am asking for your help to change their tragic destinies. Could you give one of them a home where to live happily the twilight years? Either of them would make a perfectly sweet family dog! And if you can't, can you may be send a donation, no matter how small, towards their expenses outside the killing station while we keep looking for their forever homes? We can't get them out of the station without help.

LOST DOG - Family distraught. Have you seen Cody - lost in Seaford yesterday, Hempstead Animal Shelter has been alerted, please share.

Cody is a 7 year old, neutered Boston Terrier. He is mostly black with a white chest and one white paw. Very Friendly, non-aggressive. He was last seen on Mansfield Drive in Seaford NY around 9am on April 8th. He is wearing a blue collar with multi-color bones on it. It has a tag with numbers and he is microchipped.

Ocean City, NJ

Ocean City, NJ hosts a shore season kick-off event called the Doo Dah Parade. Tri-State's portion of the parade, called BoardWaddle, is by far their biggest brigade. The BoardWaddle is a walk-a-thon for homeless basset hounds. Waddlers collect pledges from everyone they know (friends, relatives, doctors, well... everyone!) to help the homeless hounds of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and lower New York. The resort town of Ocean City, NJ, is the perfect backdrop for this event as the hounds stroll through the streets and up the boardwalk along the Atlantic Ocean!

After the Waddle, all are welcome to join us for our picnic on the practice field behind the Civic Center on 6th street. The picnic features an Arts & Crafts show, food vendors, rescue groups and area shelters, as well as Tri-State's merchandise tent. Awards are presented to the top 20 pledgegetters, and basset hounds compete in games such as best trick, best costume, best float, and the basset look-alike contest. Shockingly, Nikon not only facilitate and promote the shooting of wild animals with cameras - they also do it with guns. The hypocrisy of this global company is one they have seemingly fought hard to keep from UK consumers.

Many wildlife photographers use Nikon cameras, but few know that Nikon sponsor trophy hunting in the United States and also produce a riflescope specifically designed for killing large wild animals in Africa, such as lions, despite their numbers plummeting.

Join us in telling Nikon to dump their support for hunting and tell them you will not touch their products until they do. Sign the petition.

Foie-gras

Our campaign to get Amazon to stop selling foie-gras has been going strong the last couple of months! We've gotten thousands of signatures to them already, and we plan to keep going.

You can read up on the campaign - and don't forget to sign the petition (help us get to 10,000!) and send your complaint to Amazon as well! We've made it super easy for you.

What's in a label?

The recent horse meat scandal has had everybody talking - and it doesn't seem to have quieted down any, and Viva! broke the news about possible dog meat contamination and mystery meat in takeaways in the UK. If you eat meat, you could have already a cat or a dog burger!

That's why our new campaign - What's in a label? - asks the question, does it really matter what meat it is if it's labelled correctly? All animals are sentient, and all suffer the same abuse and death at the hands of the meat industry. It's time people started thinking about the food they eat and about the animals that die to make it.

The leaflets we've produced have flown out the door faster than we can stuff them in envelopes - order your action pack before they disappear!

Blood Pressure and Diet Research Project

Long term vegan Health and Nutiriton Consultant - and Viva! supporter - Gina Shaw is currently doing a research project on blood pressure and diet.

Rocky was a difficult case Akita-SOS helped -- quickly reaching the limit we could afford. Sadly Rocky has an outstanding balance at the vet's office for surgery completed (removal of a huge tumor) and now needs another vet visit.

Not sure if anyone can help but we are faced with over $1,000 needed here so even $5 will assist. PLEASE help Akita-SOS to help Rocky!! Thanks.

Rocky has a past balance and has to go back to the vet tonight due to drippy pee which is getting worse and worse since the operation.

UPDATE!! Yang's second round of bloodwork was done today. They think they have ruled out most toxins and are now checking for feline diseases. If that checks out negative then he will be off to see a neurologist. Donations have slowed for this baby and he will need several thousands dollars to help him, so please friends, do what you can. We have only collected about $600 so far and used most of it for testing. he will need an MRI and many more tests.

Ok all I hate asking, but last month I had to put out 300.00 in donations to get a dog from NM to TX. And donations for rescue transport are not what people think of when they open their check books.

Many of you have heard of Artemis (Pictured below) well rescue has been found and now I have secured Transport, but it is a paid transport so I need a little bit of funds for her and Apollo her buddy

I need to get them both into boarding for Tomorrow night at 17.00 each than Artemis leaves for Dallas and will than need another 75.00 for her transport to Colorado. If Apollo doesn't get his remaining three legs filled I'll need to keep him in boarding to keep him safe until his relay legs filled or until temp foster steps up. OR gas funds to offer to get his legs filled I have an offer from Lafayette LA all the way to Atlanta GA.

Artemis is a female lab approximately 1 year old. She is full grown and about 27 inches tall from head to ground. She's black with white markings. Very friendly but also very active. Likes to have things to chew on--preferably hard items such as bones, raw hides, etc. She does play with other toys as well on occasion like tug toys and squeaky toys. She loves to play with people and other animals. She was originally potty trained and took to it fairly easily but is now placed outside to keep her away from the boy who hurt her. So not sure if she would need to be retrained. She does respond to training well but you have to work with her often for her to continue with it due to her hyper and easily distracted nature. You can see on the photos the damage that the boy (a young child with autism but no history of aggression until now) did to her and why we are so anxious to find them homes so it will not occur again. Despite what he did, he was never bit. She is not a naturally aggressive dog, just a very playful one who wants lots of love and attention. She would make an awesome family pet for older children (she might accidentally knock smaller ones over due to rambunctiousness). She would also be good for an individual or a couple who have the time to spend playing with her, taking her on walks, etc. She is a very outdoorsy dog but enjoys spending time in the house with the family as well. She will chew on things though other than just toys, especially hard wooden furniture, relentlessly at times. She does currently have flea problems. She needs veterinary care. She seems okay, but she may have hidden face, head, and neck injuries. X-rays are probably needed. We think the damage was done with a pipe the boy found outside, but we don't know for sure.
