Today 3 of Marianos photos feature the Little Barrel from the 70s along with one from the Revolution. Who is in the photos, can anyone help with the names?

The Revolution as it was in the 70s, its still going strong today with exactly the same logo, but these days looking much brighter - its painted bright orange!

"I worked at both Moby Dicks and The Pink Panther during different seasons from 1974 to 76, it’s been a really nice trip for me down memory lane to see so many of the old workers I once called my friends some of which as the season came to an end we would then travel down to Grand Canaria and hang out at the Guantanamo campground at a beach called La Playa de Touro"

Just look at the the price of the meal in the above photo 95pts!!

After all the bars and cafes in Lloret that used to do Sunday lunch or a typical cooked breakfast, just now its very hard to find a place where you can get such a meal.... In fact just now you cant, everywhere is shut.
The White Horse and Bravehearts have sadly closed down and even El Torito which hasn't closed for years are having a long winter break. There wont be many bars left soon!

Two photos from Karen today, in the first one from 1978is Karen, Paula and Tommy. For those of you who don't know about Tommy...he is now a man of leisure, after retiring last year. He had been having some problems with his back, and wasn't able to work for a few months but he is now much better and able to get out and about more.

The next photo...Grace and Roman pictured outside the Montevideo where a lot of the workers lived.

Karen says she can remember that Louisa the owner used to sleep behind her door and watch for everybody as they came in! She must have lost soooo much sleep!

Latest News on (Para) Alan

I've recieved this message today but I've omitted the persons name who is trying ... or should I say doing their very, very best to sort this out....

"There have been no developments or no good news anyway. To be honest its all been a massive cock up on part of the judge and because of the holidays. Wednesday consulate told _____ the judge is back but because the temporary judge declined the petition they would have to submit a new one. Friday _____ called them and the consulate said it had been done do he went to blanes and they said there had been some error on the application. They would try to sort it out and would be in contact. Its just been so frustrating and _____ is getting to his limit bless him. Then today the tanatori has called to say they cant hold the body any longer and so are asking the judge for permission to bury him. She says she can't believe the errors that have been made by the judges. Also now sadly there is no chance of cremation anyway as the body is too old. So now ____ is in the process of talking to the tanatori to find out what the next steps are. _____ is gutted as he has tried so hard and he really didn't want alan buried but sadly there is nothing more he can do. Will be in touch this afternoon to let you know what is happening. Think really its just time to lay alan to rest however that may be. Was wondering if you had any pictures of alan from before he became ill or when he looked a bit healthier as ____ would like some for the wake."

We go back to somewhere around about the mid 70s with a couple of pics from Eddie today.
The bottom one shows Eddie in the centre of the picture and the top one was taken outside the White Horse...
Sadly the White Horse has now closed just before Christmas after Haken & Cathrine who have run the bar for the last 6-7 yrs or so have decided to move further down the coast of Spain to try their luck with another bar.

Does anyone recognise Roy?

Just recently I have exchanged several emails with Ross, who you may remember was asking for information from anyone who could remember his uncle Roy Jennings who lived and worked in Lloret in the mid to late 70's through to the mid 80's. He has sent these photos hoping that they may jog someones memory and maybe give the family a little bit of an insight to Roys life over here in Lloret. Any information is welcome.

Ross has sent in this email wanting any info about his uncle Roy Jennings who worked in Lloret in the 80s. He has come across a photo of him on the site, which you can see by scrolling back to 17th December.
If anyone out there can give any information about Roy please leave a comment under this post....it would be nice to fill in a few gaps for Ross's family at this time of year.

I have just stumbled across your 'Lloret De Mar Old Stuff' site by accident tonight whilst trying to research the area in the 80's.
My uncle used to live and work in Lloret in the mid to late 70's through to the mid 80's.
Sadly he died in Lloret in 1986 and I'm trying to find people that may of known him well and may have information about his life and death.?

Weirdly by a unbelievable coincidence he is in a photo that was posted earlier this month by a Brian!!!!
I have commented to ask about him on the photos comments.

I've never used blogging style sites but I was wondering if you could do a general announcement to call to anybody that uses your site for information on my uncle.?

Sorry if this is asking too much but I really want to find more about him and his life.
My grandparents were too hurt and didn't handle losing him very well so they played ignorant as their way of dealing with it, leaving us knowing very little.
Even my father his brother doesn't seem too informed about his Spanish life and it being so many years later his memory isn't helping!

Para Alan update

I've been asked to put out a brief statement about what we know so far about Alan's death. As most of us know he had been unwell for quite a long time now, but just recently had not been coming out of his home. People have been nipping up there to make sure he was ok on a daily basis.
On the 27th there was no reply at the door the police were called and they found him in his bed. He had been dead for 24hours or less. The case has now been passed over to the British Consulate, and it's up to them to find any relatives. He did have sisters but no body knows of their whereabouts. It is hoped that they can be traced as we all hope he can have a proper service with his ashes scattered out at sea.

Sorry to be breaking more bad news... but we have just heard the terrible news that Alan (para) has died today at his home in Lloret after a long illness. I'll give more details later when I hear any thing.

I've had an email from Pat Murphy asking if l could pass on some information about Peter Piper, so here's a copy of his message....

Hi Jackie,
Pat Murphy here, hope you and yours are well, I didn't make the re-union this year but hopefully 2012 fingers crossed. Could you do me a favour could you let anyone or everyone who knew him that Graham Heywood aka THE PUFF aka Peter Piper who sang with Jeff Fartuncle in the Duke of York amongst other things is alive and well and appearing alongside Shane Ritchie in Aladdin at the Cliffs Pavillion in Southend on Sea. He said he's lost touch with a lot of people but sends everyone his regards and wishes them well and hopefully I can talk him into going to the next re-union. He has been on the website but doesn't quite know how to use it. Anyone going on a cruise this year look out for Peter Piper.

Bargain Book?

Can anyone remember the Bargain Book?

Many thanks to David Buckland (ex Thompson rep) who has been in touch and sent in theses copies of pages from a book which was given out to tourist in the 70s, heres what David says -

"Here for your dear followers is a bit of Lloret history “The Bargain Book”

It was sold by reps for pocket money for several years in the early 70s

It was very popular and encouraged visitors to visit the special bars listed in either Calella or Lloret

It was the brain child of a super guy called Barry Clifford who also ran the popular

Night excursion called “Discotour” which I guided often, we used to lose a few

guests at each disco we stopped at!!! Eventually returning (what was left of us?) to Lloret for a quick dash to the Moby Dick Disco"

Brian recently got in touch after just finding the 'Old Stuff' he worked in Lloret for just one season in 1980 at Topo 't' Tops, a few words from Brian -

"I'm the one in green next to cyril !!.l've got some more somewhere with Malc Coombes on ,just need to find them out . l then went on to work in Kassiopi in Corfu for 7 summers. now have had a bar in Nerja for almost 9 years, Cyril pops in when he´s down this way"

Thanks to Mariano for these photos - the top 2 both from 1973 in the Western Saloon (Yates as we know it now!) and Mariano says that it was taken just a few hours after it was closed down by the police, then about 3-4 weeks later the Londoner was also closed down.

Ray has recently been in contact with me asking about the Captains Arms where he worked for Tony Batey in the early 60s. He sent an email which I've forwarded to Oscar one of Tony's son's, so after more than 40yrs l'm sure they'll be in contact with each other shortly. Tony has a few photos of Ray and the Captains Arms for the site so l'll be posting them on here as soon as l get them.
Is there anyone else out there who remembers Ray? If so he would love to hear from you.
