Surprisingly it is not a politician. It is Clinton Kelly, the co-host of TLC's "What Not To Wear". This show is dedicated solely to making people feel badly about themselves if they do not spend thousands of dollars to entirely replace their wardrobe on an annual (at least) basis. So, check out what Clinton had to say about choosing clothes on an episode last night:

Note: No, I was not watching this show. My wife was, and I overheard this statement and made her rewind it so I could record it. It is one of the funniest things I've ever heard.
Lloyd's Llunch Counter

I am excited to be flying into the Toronto Island airport for the first time. But even more exciting - I'm flying to Toronto for the final gala of Sirius XM's Canada's Next Top Comic contest!

After competing as one of 17 comics on the Halifax "audition", I was named as one of five semi-finalists to move on to the online voting round. Thanks to great support from my friends and family (and local media, including Information Morning Saint John on CBC Radio, The Kings County Record, CJCW Radio, Here Magazine and the Telegraph Journal, I received enough votes to move on as one of the eleven finalists at Tuesday night's show at Yuk Yuk's in downtown Toronto. I'll be competing against some of the top up-and-coming comics in Canada for a chance to win $10,000!

I've been told that the show is sold out, so those of you in Toronto won't have to worry about trying to come up with an excuse to not come! But if you are broken up about not being able to make it to the show, I have some good news! You can listen to the show live, if you have XM Satellite Radio! Just tune into Laugh Attack, the Canadian-focused comedy channel on XM Channel 160 Tuesday night (November 15, 2011) at 6PM EST (that's 7PM for my friends in the Maritimes - 7:30 in Newfoundland - see I even do the math for you. This is so easy!)

"But, Lloyd, I don't have XM!"

Why not? You really should.

Well, the next good news is, you can sign up for a free, online trial at https://my.xmradio.ca/OnlinePlus.aspx and you can listen to XM for two weeks on your computer or your phone! So, go ahead and sign up for a trial, and tune in Tuesday night for the show.

On the off-chance that you still need convincing, check out these videos from my fellow finalists for a preview of what to expect tomorrow night:

(note - there are words on these videos that your boss might not like you to listen to at work, or your wife might not want you to listen to in front of the kids.)

Apparently your computer has been sending them viruses or something. Their goal is to get you to let them have remote access to your PC so they can either steal your private info, or leave a malicious file or something. Don't let them do this. Nobody is ever going to call you because your computer is infected.

I recently had some fun with them. It went something like this.

Me: "Hello"
Him: "Yes, sir, this is Harold from Computer Server Maintenance Services. We have been contracted by Microsoft to help their clients with bad files. Your computer has been sending us bad files, so we want to help you get rid of the virus."
Me: "Bad files, eh? Sounds bad."
Him: "Yes, sir. Very bad."
Me: "How bad?"
Him: "Very bad."
Me: "Like, really bad?"
Him: "Yes, sir. Now, if you could turn on your PC, I can help you get rid of the bad files."
Me: "Like super bad?"
Him: "Yes, sir. Super bad." (he said "super bad" with a flourish, like an narrator in a superhero cartoon announcing the evil villain.)
Me: "I'm so glad you called. What do I need to do?"
Him: "Is your PC on, and are you in front of it?"
Me: "Yes, and yes! Please hurry!"
Him: "Ok, press the following keys" (I forget what keys he wanted me to press)
Me: (not anywhere near my computer) "OK. Done."
Him: "What do you see?"
Me: "A picture of a kitty cat. Is that what you wanted to show me? That's not such a bad file."
Him: "Pardon?"
Me: "A picture of a kitty cat. And the caption says 'You're purrrrfect.' What's so bad about that?"
Him: "no, sir, you must have pressed the wrong keys. Try this." (and he repeated the instructions.)
Me: "OK, now I see it. That's the recipe for fettuccine alfredo I've been looking for! Thanks!"
Him: "No, sir. You must have done it wrong again." (and repeats the instructions)
Me: "HEY! That's pornography! What kind of operation is Microsoft running over there?"
Him: "No, sir. This is not about pornography. This is about bad files."
Me: "What kind of files are worse than pornography? This is disgusting! Why did you want me to see your dirty pictures?"
Him: "No, sir. Those are not my dirty pictures. I do not have dirty pictures. I don't know how those got on your computer, but that is not why I am calling."
Me: "Are you accusing me of looking at pornographic images?"
Him: "Please, sir. Just follow these instructions." (and he repeats the instructions)
Me: "Hey, where did the porn go? Do you know howI get it back?"
Him: "No, sir. You will have to find it yourself. Can you tell me what you see now?"
Me: "A double rainbow! All the way! Woah! OH MY GOD! ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE SKY! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!"
Him: "Is this some kind of joke?"
Me: (sobbing a little) "You don't believe in rainbows? It's so beautiful. "
Him: *Click*

Best telemarketing call I've ever gotten. Harold, if you're out there, call back sometime. I miss you.
Stuff he didn't like but thought I would. Great!
I got home that night to find:
Two Tootsie Rolls, one with a bite out of it.
One pre-chewed piece of bubblegum.
One orange-flavoured hard candy, that had clearly been in someone's mouth already.
One lollipop stick with no lollipop on it.
We are all very excited about this, especially Eric. Not only was Eric singled out as a Difference Maker, but he also gets the honour of being the youngest Medal Bearer in the whole cross-country relay! Eric's leg of the relay was sponsored by Invacare Canada, a home healthcare company who hand-picked Eric as the Difference Maker for one of their three sponsored legs of the relay across the country. Eric was selected by Invacare after learning about how hard he works and the impact he has had on the way those around him look at people with disabilities and at accessibility issues.

As many of you know, my sister Carol has lived with Multiple Sclerosis for much of her life. Chronic fatigue, weakness and many other symptoms of MS have made day-to-day living a challenge for Carol over the years.

The recent talk of Liberation Treatment and the early successes doctors have had with alleviating MS symptoms has brought hope to MS patients everywhere. With her third grandchild due in a few months, Carol is excited at the prospect of increased mobility and decreased fatigue that this treatment can bring.

However, the Liberation Treatment is not available in Canada. It is available in the US, but is expensive. Carol has recently been able to arrange an appointment on short notice for the Liberation Treatment in Rhode Island on August 1. The total cost for Carol and her husband John to travel to Rhode Island and for Carol to undergo the treatment is upwards of $10,000.

We want to help Carol reach her goal as quickly as possible, so have decided to have a raffle to help raise money for her treatment.

Tickets are available now, and will cost $50 each. There will be one prize of a $500 (Canadian) Future Shop gift card for the winner! We will only be selling a limited number of tickets, so the odds of winning are great (even better if you buy more than one ticket!). Tickets will only be available for a few days due to the short notice for Carol's appointment.

You can buy tickets directly from Jodi and Lloyd, or online at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=CXJU3KHJB7L78. The draw will be held at our house at 232 St George St, Sussex, NB on Thusday, July 28 at 8:00 PM. All ticket holders are welcome to come for the draw and to wish Carol well! (Note: you do not have to be in attendance to win.)

Donations to help Carol with the costs of the Liberation Treatment are also accepted and can be given to any of Carol’s family, or online at https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=GV7W9RA34NKT8.

Between raffle tickets and donations, we hope to raise $7,500 despite the short time frame. The province of New Brunswick has a program in place to match funds raised, up to $2,500 for approved applicants, which would bring the total to $10,000 and cover the treatment entirely. We hope we can count on your support. So we need lots of help. Please feel free to pass this message on to anyone you feel would be interested in hearing about Carol’s upcoming Liberation Treatment, and our fundraising efforts to help her. If you would like to help out by selling tickets to your family, friends and co-workers, please feel free to get in touch via e-mail (lloydravn at hotmail.com) or on call Lloyd at 506-292-4956.

Thanks for your help,

Jodi and Lloyd Ravn

Releases Part Three in the Popular 'Ravn Boys' Trilogy

January 14, 2011, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada - World famous film studio, Ravnfilms Inc has released the much anticipated third part in their blockbuster trilogy series, 'The Ravn Boys' this morning at 5:12 AM, Atlantic Standard Time.

The new movie, titled 'The Ravn Boys, Part 3: Nicholas Patrick', has received critical acclaim in a number of early reviews, notably a 5-Star review in the column, "Morning Rounds," in which well-known film critic, Dr. Leyanaar, called the film "absolutely lovely."

Ravnfilms' Executive Producer, Jodi Ravn, said that the production team knew they would have to pull out all the stops in order to satisfy fans of the first two episodes in the three-part series. "The movie-going public was used to our work being top quality on 'Part 1: Eric Larsen' (released February 2005) and 'Part 2: Alexander Liam' (released December 2007), so we worked hard to make this release another guaranteed hit," said Ravn from her temporary office in the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Ravnfilms' Director of Marketing, Lloyd Ravn, recapped many of the new movie's key selling points to assembled media representatives shortly after the screening. "We are particularly proud of how cute this release is, in keeping with the other titles in this series," beamed Ravn, with the excitement level of a new father.

The film will be on limited release at the Saint John Regional Hospital until January 15, when it will be shown in Sussex, NB, before being eventually released worldwide.

In an unusual glitch from typically well-polished Ravnfilms, the film's running time listed on the promotional materials was shown in Pounds, Ounces and Inches, rather than hours and minutes (listed as 9 lbs, 5.7 oz and 22.5"), however a newly updated promo piece corrected the film's length to "many, many years."

September 19, 2010, Sussex, NB – Comedy fans in the Maritimes who like their laughs on the edge will be happy to hear that Darren Frost, a popular nationally-touring headliner known for his over-the-top material will be visiting the Maritimes in October. Frost’s “Lost in the East” tour will be hitting Moncton (October 17), Fredericton (October 18), Saint John (October 19) and Charlottetown (October 20).

The Toronto Star said that Frost’s material “has the quality of a satanic revival meeting”, and it is that kind of performance that has earned him a strong following of fans across the country including here on the East Coast. The eccentric entertainer, whose latest DVD, Dead Inside will be available in October, has been performing stand-up comedy since 1992 and has toured coast to coast, both delighting and offending audience members in every corner of the country, including numerous comedy festivals and appearances at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Nasty Show.

Frost’s resume includes roles in feature films such as the blockbuster Hairspray, Assault on Precinct 13 and Fever Pitch, as well as television appearances on Much Music’s Video on Trial and his own Comedy Now special on CTV and The Comedy Network. He is a regular on XM Satellite Radio’s Laugh Attack channel, where he hosts the weekly show Anything Goes with Darren Frost and has been heard on CBC Radio’s The Debaters. Frost is recognizable from his seemingly endless roles in television commercials, including a stint as the original Listerine bottle action hero.

Joining Frost on his Fall 2010 East Coast micro-tour will be his co-host on Anything Goes, and another favourite on the comedy circuit in Canada, Dave Martin. Toronto’s NOW Magazine promises that when it comes to Martin’s “alt sense of humour, you won’t be disappointed” and Eye Magazine called his material “too bold or dirty for mainstream television.” Nonetheless, Martin has appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, having advanced to the final stage of the Toronto auditions, and has filmed his own Comedy Now special, in addition to appearances on the Comedy Network’s The Jon Dore Television Show.

The organizer of the “Lost in the East Comedy Tour”, New Brunswick-based comic Lloyd Ravn, who will also appear onstage with Frost and Martin, said “Maritime comedy fans don’t get enough opportunities to take in professional comedy, and fans of the kind of unorthodox material Darren and Dave bring to the stage have even fewer chances to get their comedy fix,” so he expects all three shows to sell out quickly. “If you love what Darren calls ‘Happy Clappy Fun Boy’ comedy, this might not be the show for you, but if you can leave your ability to be offended behind and just enjoy an adults-only comedy show, then you don’t want to miss this rare chance to see two of Canada’s best at work,” said Ravn.
