When Dr. Mark Paschen remodeled his orthodontic area at Dental Associates in Baraboo, he had one big beautiful wall that was as fresh and clean as a new canvas. Creative man that he is, he decided that his patients’ smiles should adorn the wall. In a canvas gallery, of course.

As it turns out, many of Dr. Paschen’s orthodontic patients are also my senior portrait clients, so it was a perfect fit!

Using my interactive software, I shot the empty wall and designed different wall galleries that would take advantage of the space, make the kids look as GREAT as possible, and showcase their beautiful smiles.

This is a perfect example of how my software can help you decorate your home or office. Images can be changed at the click of a mouse. Sizes, ditto. And all of the layouts were printed out so that Dr. Paschen could ponder the possibilities.

Seven layouts later, we arrived at a 12-canvas display that is truly an eye-catching wall of art.

Most orthodontic patients make the trip up and down these stairs over a course of months or even years. Now the Gallery of Smiles is the first thing they see as they make their way to Dr. Paschen’s offices.

The only drawback? I wasn’t able to fit all of the seniors I had hoped to on the wall. The canvas dimensions, image colors and general layout determined which images would work.

Juniors — who knows? Next year YOU may appear on the Gallery of Smiles!

While they look pretty with their ponytails and pointed toes, these athletes have spent countless hours working on routines and performances that, in the end, look elegant and effortless.

I shot seniors Tori, Hayley, Alyssa, Haley and Angie. They were “wrapped and ready” the minute we got into the camera room, and they had great ideas.

My friend Jody, did too. So after we got the shot we were after, we asked them to do something spectacular. (You know, for our entertainment!)

We wanted to see something cool. Like splits. (That was a no.) A flip. (No room.) Or any sort of handspring-fly-through-the-air trick. (Not so safe without mats, equipment, etc.)

So each of them did a separate jump. One word describes them all: spectacular. Keep in mind that they were at least four feet off the ground…I ran out of space above their heads with the backdrop, which is near the ceiling. They can fly!

Did I mention that these girls laugh a lot? (They really do.)

I had the opportunity to shoot seven teams at the last BHS Invitational last Saturday. Sports shots are available HERE.

This year, Christine Kortbein, owner of Cornerstone Gallery, took the evening one step further by having live models in the window of her store.

Modeling painted fur jackets and coats designed and created by Lon Michels, Layne Kortbein and Mary Jo Contino took many passersby by surprise. “Oh look! They’re REAL!” people squealed.

For the most part, the models posed like mannequins at Macy’s. But now and then they would wave and smile at customers on the street, which brought giggles and waves that rippled from the front door throughout the store.

Inside, the store was packed to the gills with glittering jewelry, artwork and one-of-a-kind gifts (and more fabulous women wearing Lon Michels painted fur pieces). Wine walkers made their way to the back of the store and were rewarded with a “pour” and some tasty appetizers.

After that, his studio shots were, simply put, “awesome.”

Blue skies, sunshine, and more smiles than I could count. And, I had to park waaaaay down the road. I can honestly say that I was happy that I had to park so far away. What a turnout!

He sat patiently through the “mom shots”— you know. The ones that will end up on mom and dad’s desks.

But when we went in the studio, he put on his game face (along with his uniforms) and turned athlete.

Don’t think he didn’t have to be patient for these, too! Mood, lighting and intensity all came together to turn these ordinary images into exciting portraits.

The Boys Varsity lineup for Verona – post-race.

But first I just had to post these sweet brother images.

I photographed them last spring at the ball field. This time we had the Wisconsin River with all of its Ducks, boats and jet skis, and their young dog Allie to distract them. And still, these boys were good as gold. Thanks Yenti and Rick for bringing your boys to Lake Delton!
