Newcomers to Nicola Conte should think of the following concepts - high style, serious talent and retro chic...
People who remember Conte's "Jet Sounds" will understand why he could count on Thievery Corporation as fans. They subsequently signed him to their ESL imprint in the US.
However, this record is different, it moves on from the chilled electronic bossa tinged music of "Bossa Per Due" and "Arabesque" into a territory defined as jazz.
This is pure jazz, no samples and electronic trickery, just Nicola at the centre of the band calling the shots, deciding on a 1950's and 1960's direction. As a result it has found its rightful home with the most famous jazz record label of all time, Blue Note.
Inspired by 60's Blue Note, this album takes you on a musical journey through Hard Bop, Modal and Latin Jazz.

This album isn't for the "easy listner". The songs can last up to 7 minutes or longer, and it is very slow paced. However this album just makes me feels so good (even if it is depressing). This is the perfect relaxation album. His lyrics and music flow like wine.

Oh so much fun.

I guess that the common among us would call this "Lounge Music", yawn. Oh dear, it is so tedious to be surrounded by the unhip.

Is the music of Mademoiselle Maki Nomiya good or bad?

"It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious." - Oscar Wilde. Ms Nomiya happens to be one of the charming ones, and oh! how charming she can be!

A friend of mine asked me if this album was recorded at a party. It sounds like it. Yet few of us are ever invited to parties this good.

Lots of lounge piano, flute, groovy acoustic guitar, mellow electric guitar, sexy saxophones and Sergio Mendez styled percussion.

The Cosmic Lounge presents Nu-Jazz Music: 'Day 2001' by Atjazz. (My morning exercise routine. Happy New Year!) "Martin Iveson moved from the North-East of England to the Midlands city of Derby in 1991 to take a position as in-house musician for the then fledgling video games company that went on to produce the Tomb Raider series of games. Not content with sound tracking one of the world's biggest computer games, Martin's passion for music saw him set up his own studio and record label, from which he could give a free rein to his personal music aspirations. Martin became Atjazz and Mantis Recordings' first release was his Story EP. The positive reactions to Story inspired his debut album That Something, which was released in 1998, and established the Atjazz name, going on to be licensed in Italy by Irma Records and Japan by Sony. Mantis Recordings moved onwards building a solid catalogue of releases from mainly local artists, and the Atjazz albums Labfunk and Labresults followed. While tracks on his debut album hinted at a particular Atjazz sound, it was these following albums that cemented his reputation as a world class producer with a distinctive yet diverse method to his sound, and making him an in demand producer, remixer and DJ. For Mantis he played a big role in the sound of Brooks debut album You, Me & Us, produced the album That Day for Magic Number, and works closely with Mantis' jerkbeat master Clyde. His vast studio knowledge isn't limited to just dirty disco, techno soul and hip hop beats either; he's turned his hand to twiddling the knobs for everyone from acoustic soloists to post hardcore indie rockers. His brand new album Full Circle sees Atjazz working with many superb artists. Peter Wraight, who played a big part of the sound of Labfunk brings his skill and knowledge once again, while singers Ernesto, Clara Hill, Sarah-Jane Morris, Dawne B, Amalia, and Mr J all deliver stunning performances, plus there's some mighty word wielding from Cee Rock and Hernandez. Superproducer Charles Webster is also joining forces with Atjazz, on a project called Version. They already have several remixes in the bag and a EP's coming soon for both Miso and Mantis. While for Jazzanova's prolific Sonar Kollektiv label, Atjazz has produced songs for the new Clara Hill album, and released the massive track For Real on their sub label Innervisions. Solid EP but nothing spectacular
Quality beats are for sure used here but to some it may be either hit or miss.

It starts out with a dragged out beat that is either addicting to some and annoying to others. I personally think it works nicely.

66th Street is a laid back uptempo vibe. Solid song. Slug rides with the beat nicely

My personal favorite of this short album is "They all get mad you". Fast uptempo drama-heavy beat. Like the concept as well.

Beautiful is a very boring beat (rare from ANT) and will probably get skipped often by listeners.

Ha, This one is about alocohol too is a nice vibing song that is calm but comes along nicely with the background bouncing sounds. May get boring after awhile, but it still nicely done.

I would give this EP 3.5 but I will round up and give them a 4 since the music is quality and lyrics are on point. it is just this one may be the least one played in the Season EP series.

a beat junkie's delight...
I had the opportuniy to buy this album and I kicked myself for not doing so when it was first released. It was pretty hard to come by here in the states. After hearing there debut and remix work for the likes of Courtney Pine, Beanfield and others I knew I would not be disappointed. I spotted this on Amazon for a really good price and even though it's more than three years after it's initial release... it is classic. Roba's vocals have more range, while Dark and Nwachukwuback's
layered beats and arrangements never cease to amaze. Standouts include the synth looping 'Deeper' , the pounding hip-hop ballad "It's Not Enough", the raw beats and standup bass of "Mangled", the rock infused "Just an Avenue". 'The Man' has an eerie looped soundtrack bit that's reminiscent of the happy munchkin scene from the Wizard of OZ. In the song's misogynist context though it sounds pretty menacing. My favorite, the broken beat poetry of 'The Quest' seeks advances in Hip Hop and questions its existence in contemporary times. More than Trip hop, more than Hip- Hop. This time out Attica play with genres as much as they play with the beats they flipped on their debut.

Truly very cool music this dude is talented, he takes from the 70's sound a bit actually although that's not a bad thing at least I think. Now the order he put the songs in flows well although he put the better tacks at the start & end, so he put all of the less outstanding songs in the middle which did not sit well to much ( although not that much). First disc I have picked up by Fantastic Plastic Machine and i'm getting all of his other one's

Near-classic bogged down by chaffing b-sides
Call it the allure of the compact disc; a tantalizing eighty minutes to stuff your creations within for eager ears. Precisely the trap found on Windows, the latest album by supremely talented bloke Lemongrass, aka Roland Voss. His heady blend of ethereal, Asian atmosphere and dusty beats has compilers stumbling over themselves to grab his tunes for Budda Bar/French Hotel/Are We Chilled Yet? compilations. Here's why: Sunrise of Fujijama's effortlessly flowing percussion has three tracks of percussion coolly wrapped together, all while mellow keyboards dance about. Then there's undeniably dreamy Planet Tears, hazy lullaby and sullen violin cradling Eastern-accented poetry (also heard on Tarentella vs Redanka's club smash Karma but used here first). Gipsy Moon pairs well, slipping flutes into the mix. Including deftly drummed up horizontal fare Imagine, Passengers, and crackling-vinyl vocal Journey to a Star and This Way would normally guarantee a lil' album destined for near-classic status.But, sadly, the chaff's rather bad. Winnetou Melody and Plain strike off-kilter with instant "I know I don't like that" squiggles on top. And frankly, Librabelle proves he can program drum and bass, but, like Wei Fung Chi is stitched together just to show off. A prime example of requiring addition by subtraction, Windows can still enthrall the listener willing to sift through the b-sides.

Downtempo with an upbeat feel
In the realm of acid jazz/jazz fusion/downtempo/lounge this CD ranks up there with the best of them. If you're looking for earth-shattering-intergalactic-experimental-electronica you will surely fall asleep on this one. However, if your prefer more refined and structured electronica, you'll enjoy the hip jazzy feel they have infused into each track.

Almost any track you can easily imagine being played in your local Starbucks or your favorite lounge. Some are danceable (After, Just You & I, Where Are We?). Some go well with your morning Caramel Macchiato (I Guess She..., Before, Ocean Air). A few are excellent backdrops for an evening houseparty with pita chips, hummus and Mojitos (Dabudei, Streets of Istanbul, Slowhand Hussein). Others are great as a night cap (Homebase, Colores, Spacewater). Regardless the event or time of day there is a song from this CD that would suit perfectly.

I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 merely because I enjoy this CD second to their other CD, Gran Riserva which I highly rate a 5.

Why did they break up????
First off let's get the bad part out of the way. Save yourself 3 or 4 dollars and just get the album with the standard 11 tracks. The 2 remixes aren't worth the money. Now the good part. I LOVE THIS CD!!! I'm not a fan of electronica but the lead singers voice is addictive and intoxicating. The beats are great on the slower tunes as well as on the uptempo songs. Not a lot of lyrics to learn but that being said the lyrics are great. Very clear, legible, and you won't have to read the inserts to know what is being sang. By the time I found out about this group they had already disbanded. What a shame. Tied for the best musical purchase of 2007 for me. Must own for audiophiles.

Hooked from the start, the future of electronica!
This CD has it all. Good, bad, and romantic moods happen with this disc. The track Quarteralist just gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Try listening to that track on an empty freeway at about 2am and you will see exactly what I am talking about. I purchased all of the other titles. Messages from the Hub is also very good, and his new one Domestic Science is really good also, but more on the jazzy side with more vocals, etc.

Truby Trio "DJ-Kicks" Album Review

Just Relax While I play you some Nice... Broken Beats
DJ Kicks... one of my favorite DJ series. Carl Craig, Thievery Corporation, Kruder/Dorfmeister, DJ Cam, Smith & Mighty, Daddy G, Terranova, Stereo MC's and at least a dozen others have all graced the series with their unique mixes. This one, done up in 2001, was put together by Truby Trio. That's Rainer Truby, Christian Prommer and Roland Appel - the last two being members of Fauna Flash but all three working togehter or individually or even with other groups on the German label "Compost".

This is easily one of my favorite DJ Kicks releases. It starts out sweetly with Conjure's "Medley" before Truby Trio's own "High Jazz" kicks in. I dig their cut - it's got a sensational broken beat to it and a class that was neatly remixed a few years later. That's followed up seamlessly with Block 16's "Find an Oasis"; a track that's loaded with Braziliance, soul & electronica. A moody track follows up, "Edony", by Africanism before another neat broken beat by Matthaus. Slow Supreme's "Granada" is a track that would be popular on a few mixes and is soooooo... I dunno, "Europish". :) I never said that was a bad thing, and it has an awesome electronic feel to it. One of the other highlights to me was Afronaught's "Transcend Me". This cut JAM's, you listen to it once and think it's cool but then it sticks in your mind and you have to hear it again. Other great songs on this were Korova's "Some People", remixed by Waiwan, Modaji's "one and the Same" done up by Jazztronik, and.... heck... the whole thing's pretty sweet. Tim Hutton's "Colours" would sort of be the track of the summer in 2002, you've got another Truby Trio track remixed by Zero db, a kicken beat by Voom:Voom (who is Prommer, Appel and Peter Kruder) and a sick percussion and sax track to close the set by... Fauna Flash. Funny though - I don't know if it's really possible to find a good album with broken beats that doesn't include anyone from Bugz in the Attic (Afronaught, Modaji, etc.)

I definitely recommend this one. I love it. The music's tight and it's great electronica and broken beats from all over. Since this, Truby Trio's gone on to make loads of remixes, release a feature album in 2002, a remix album a few years later and Rainer's also done lots of work too. K7's a label known for underground beats and grooves but I'm pretty sure that over the years, their secret's out now. If you like this, be sure to keep your eye out on a DJ Kicks' "Best Of" sort of deal that just came out this month title: "DJ Kicks - The Exclusives". You also have to get your hands on the Trust the DJ series' as this mix is eerily similar to Gilles Peterson's "GP01", and you'll probably like Phil Asher's "PA01" and "PA02" along with the sets done by Patrick Forge, Michael Reinboth (also of Compost) and Dr. Bob Jones.

The Cosmic Lounge presents Nu-Jazz Music: 'Bad Luck' by Rainer Trüby Trio. "Formerly of A Forest Mighty Black, DJ Rainer Trüby built his reputation as a connoisseur of music past and present at the Root Down club night in Freiburg, Germany. Once a month he spins an eclectic blend of traditional bossa nova, modern organic breakbeat, and future-leaning jazz to a packed crowd of beat-hungry clubbers and martini-sipping soul sophisticates. Trüby garnered a solid following for his impeccable skills behind the decks and the respect of pioneers such as Gilles Peterson, LTJ Bukem, and Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister), the last of whom went so far as to dedicate a track to the budding German jock. "But hold on a sec, doesn't a trio require three musicians?" you holler. That's where Christian Prommer and Roland Appel come in. Best known for their jazz-driven drum and bass as Fauna Flash and their slinky mid-tempo beats as Voom:Voom (with Peter Kruder), the two teamed up with Trüby in the late '90s to create the Trio. Released on Compost, "A Go Go" and "Carajillo" became huge hits on the modern jazz and leftfield breaks scenes, raising the Trio's profile to astronomical heights. Following a slew of successful remixes for the likes of Peace Orchestra, Mr. Gone, Bobby Matos, and Frederic Galliano, !K7 Records asked the three to select and mix a DJ-KiCKS comp, putting them in the same league as Nightmares On Wax, Stereo MCs, DJ Cam, and Carl Craig. Nicola Conte and Bernard Herrmann in a Discotheque!
Way cool! Stefano Torossi has provided me one of my favorite albums of the year (although it was released in the mid-80s and reissued by Easy Tempo recently).

It's got a distinct Bernard Herrmann-taxi Driver sheen to it. Lots of reverb on the strings and dynamite, driving, 70s type percussion.

The sound and song fall somewhere between post-mink stole and pre-Fern Bar; imagine if the ever-sturdy skill of Italian pop songcrafting had descended on Issac Hayes' Shaft-era horn clusters, Barry White's strings, Artie Kane's late 60s film scoring techniques ("The Love Machine"), then all of it ladled with that snazzy, way-Uptown, 'oh babe let's dress up like we're in a decadent Helmut Newton photo -will you slip on those 7 inch stilettos?' vibe that Neely Plumb produced for the remix versions on the 1977 TAXI DRIVER soundtrack (including the groovy flugelhorns). Throw in a few guitar licks from Archie Bell and the Drells' "Tighten Up". Gosh, you can just visualize some mid-70s era rock star's mistress leaping long-legged out of a limo, dashing by Tiffany's for some last minute jewels, catching her wistful relfection in the store window, then dipping some nose candy in the leather backseat before she heads off to that new place called Studio 54, and basking in all the lush, melancholy neon draped along both sides of the streets along the way ("Aren't the bums so tragique? I wonder if Liz will drag along that little eyesore, Truman?") It's such an exciting life, and it can be yours if you buy this disc!!!

It's all done skillfully: Herbie Hancock-swift electric keyboards, throbbing electric bass, outrageously lush strings that swoop down from heaven and spin circles around driving percussion, and horn arrangements that spit sunbeams. The title cut alone will make you long for another romantic laision - no matter how disastrous the last one may have been!

All Easy Tempo fans of Piccioni and Umilani: this is a must-get. It's more mid-70s than, say, Camille 2000, but it's got the scintillating quality of Nicola Conte's JET SOUNDS which apes and reimagines the late 60s and its leopard-print Mrs. Robinson aesthethic. Put them both on repeat play and you'll never need Prozac again.

Anybody know what happened to his gifted Italian guy? I sure would love to hear more.

Heroes of Nature....
Smoke City's second release does take and interesting turn indeed. While there is less of a trip hop influence than that of the band first cd, the Brazilian flavour is still there. Even though there is something of a change in the bands sound, I believe it is for the better. I truely did enjoy "Flying Away", and I still do, I love the songs on that cd, but you can really sense the growth within the band both as human beings and as musicians. I my view, this effort is far more focused than their debut, the songs are far more consistant sounding than that of their first cd. The bonus tracks on this cd are definitely worth the extra money, so you get 16 track in total. Overall this is a very strong follow up to Flying Away and a very solid sophmore effort.

Intelligent but underwhelming experimental electronica
A worthy introduction into electronic glitch workaholic Scott Heren's (yet another) pet project would only be so if given the proper expectations. The brief disc covers a few areas of electronic expertise Heren excels in- from chill-out, latin tinged downbeat, spazzy break-beats, to fuzzed out anti-music all served on a pretty accessible plate, though hardly any of the six tracks establish themselves past the point of being fun little experiments. This leaves the impression of an intelligent, idea-laden sampler, in other words your typical e.p. stalling, albeit of a decent caliber.

Fresh air in a genre going stale..
When you think of Austria you're probably not thinking of hip-hop, and even if you somehow were you wouldn't be thinking "top league" hip-hop. Think again. This album happens to easily be amongst the top hip hop albums not only of this year but of the past 5 years as well. An explosive barrage of ultra dark beats and scratches and electronic soundscapes mixed with excellent lyrics coming rather from the...left is what is on offer here. But, what differentiates this LP from the 100s of its musical style out there is that everything about it is intelligent and that it has a "mission" evident by the lyrics and driven home by the music. This is the 3rd offering from this band and up to now they were little known outside of Central Europe, but with the "Encounters" they could be destined for much bigger things. Even though i do wish them that i think this album is too intelligent to propel them into the mainstream and it's cool that way too. If you're looking for an album that's almost gothic without being gothic and bombastic without being silly, dark without treading old surface, and one that sticks to your mind upon the first listening then this is it. And hey, you can brag to your friends about a great group that few (yet) know..

this may not be the corner that you were looking for if you just got off the nu dub players buss. im not sure why though he calls these love songs, maybee if you'r house hold apliances just got done listening to frank zappa's joes garage & need a night cap. but if you are looking for a great jazz electric explosion, & i dont mean that cheezy electric jazz you hear on the radio, using electric synth to create a horn sound or piano. this is yet another burnt friedman mixed with pole like digital sound's, mixing it in a dub fasion, utalizing echo's, flanger & bleps, so technicall this is dub & will be featured in my strick9 dub listmania. but dosent come off in the way that cant cool & just landed did. more of the secret rythm stuff, but that has more dub/reggae elements than this does. the only thing that thought was weird is that burnt places verry strange monologue stories here & their along with the music. 1 story about a boy working at his fathers friends store & breaking his arm cause he forgot his keys & climbed the roof. & body language is a verry raspy man telling a store, little music. but if you as big a fan of burnt as i am non of this will phase you from wanting this gem. just dont come looking for the nu dub players traditional electric reggae music. for some reason amazon sellers want lots of money for a used copy of this, like its really old or burnt is some superstar. burnt also has another flanger album with atomheart due out in sep 12 2005. enjoy.

hang on, before i can convey to you the essence of "play love songs" i need to put this heating on. when musicians play for sheer enjoyment only, they put every effort into their performance & the end result is usually brilliant. So it is with this longplayer. soft, intricate rythms. romantic synths, a seductive piano, a long guitar & beautifle voices all mingle superbly, compelling you to dream of blue sunny skies & the moon with myriads of stars. this is more than music alone. it's the rythmic poetry of amor. light years ahead of the lazy appropriation & quantized rythmic tedium that dominates computer bases music in general. this is unlike anything else, wonderfully well done, warm & jazzy & full of tricks & twists,...demanding repeated listening. may this quote by andy worhol give you an idea about friedman's increasingly opaque working methods: "the acquisition of my tape recorder really finished whatever emotional life i might have had, but i was glad to see it go..... nothing was ever a problem just meant a good tape."

Audio Lotion "Adelante" Album Review

Very Nice CD
I stumbled into this one in the music store, hearing it overhead in of all places, the dance/dj section. This isn't dance/dj at all really - except for maybe the last few tracks. Audio Lotion is a group based out of Switzerland focusing on Latin vocals, styles and rythms. They're on the same label that brings Yonderboi and De-Phazz into the picture as well as the "Batucada" compilations. I really am enjoying this album. After hearing Azud de Voce on the overhead at the store, I was very intrigued to figure out who this was - and when the next few songs came across, I had to get it. As for the sound - I honestly think it is a bit "contemporary". Good, easy going instrumentation, light and delicate vocals through and through. From the second track, Azul De Voce, you get a feel for the album and the style. To me, the album and tracks remind me of a mature story in the big city... if that makes sense.The strength of this cd is definitely in the middle IMO. As Velas (the Candles) is a romantic, downtempo track that flows perfectly into el Insecto, a lazy, sleepy summer time track. Then it's onto a nice, upbeat track in "another bossa" before kicking off into a "quaint" track, tao delicado". I recommend this cd. Good sound-quality, and tt's one that would easily fly under the radar. However it is kind of like "one of those cd's that was playing when i was in Borders Book Store" too...

Insane sophomore album
This album has no regrets and it feels like it. There's no standard commercial formula, no overblown hype. Abstract Rude, an MC I've never even heard of, invents a whole new style that coexists with Daedelus' strange music, and Busdriver brings his signature delivery to a new level. This album is hip-hop, it's not electronica or none of those fringe genres that music snobs classify music into to make themselves feel smarter. This is pure, true hip-hop. With offbeat, funky beats, and cutting-edge lyrical flow, this remains one of the more underrated albums of 2003 (as well as Diverse's overground debut). If you truly love hip-hop, ditch your dumb Outkast and Talib Kweli records. This is the future of music, the rest are just trying to bring back the past.

DJ Vadim "Your Revolution" Album Review

This revolution is supposed to make you think!!
Taking an idea (and if information be correct, assistance) from Gil Scott-Heron and his The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, Ms. Jones, on the track titled Your Revolution, turns the spotlight on ubiquitous images and mindsets within hip-hop culture; bringing to task the male dominated art form that appears to have not only gone the way of hyper-consumption, but has also delved deeper within the halls of misogyny. The controversial spoken word piece by an obviously gifted artist does no less than two things: makes you think, then makes you think real hard.Ms. Jones artfully weaves lyrics of many "popular" songs that glorify treadmill materialism and disrespect for women into a manifesto assaulting emergent thinking. Putting these problematic aspects of hip-hop on notice, she successfully brings to mind not only the songs to which she alludes, but also images that accompany them in their videos. Additionally, to show that not all is lost, Ms. Jones goes on to highlight some of the more positive artists and lyrics within the genre, thereby showing that not all of what is heard on the re-one-o-peats of the country is representative of hip-hop's continuum. All in all, Sarah Jones does a masterful job of taking an art form that many contend has begun to fall into potential disrepair (at least from what is heard on the airwaves) and, along with many other great minds, illustrated once more that life and living are not "all about the Benjamins" or "Bling-Bling" thus allowing hip-hop to rise like the proverbial phoenix from the ashes on its path to a rebirth of cool. In this vein, Sarah Jones' work should be applauded not criticized. Oh! I know you didn't think I would let the haters off the hook! To them I simply say, think real hard before you speak; then pause and think yet again.

Unimpressive Mixing, Decent Track Selection
It could've been so good if only it all came together. The first four tracks are each interesting, character pronouncing, string based and/or ambient wonders. 'Heart Noir' has drums that sound like they're being played out of a cave, and feature pretty much the only scratching you'll hear on the disc, while the first track is nothing more than building atmospheric soundscapes, which is cool. But the mix from 'Heart Noir' to the string tribute to Bjork's 'Come To Me' is jarringly amateur. Actually, most of the mixing is pretty standard here. There are basically only a few instances here and there of competent and adequate mixing, let alone anything artistic, but the most horrific fault of this compilation is in its track selection. It goes from well-chosen, interesting, eclectic downtempo to mind numbing minimal house, from rich, sampled drum loops to oily slick, synthetic symbol taps that would put a crack addict in a coma. After track 12, this reviewer found it hard to not just abandon the groove and stare off into space to think about how long it's been since his last girlfriend and how bad off financially he is [he did just get laid off earlier that day]. Aside from the cello of Still Phil's 'Bey Un Bey,' the mix ends on a selection of somewhat cheesy biscuits with no discernable character among 'em. The combination of the toe-stub mix from 3 to 4 and the sleepy house later on makes it really hard to totally submerge oneself in this art gone wrong of a cash cow instalment in the Fabric series. Nice packaging, though...

Audio Enchantment
I'm usually not very interested in completely instrumental soundtracks. However, after seeing MIRRORMASK I was so captivated weeks later that I still found myself hearing some of the tunes from the movie in my head. So I purchased the soundtrack. I haven't regretted. Like many of the visual elements in the film are to the eye, the music is stunning and full of aural power. My favorite piece on the album is track #19, "Monkeybirds". I like putting the soundtrack into the cd player or the computer as I write. It works as excellent stimulating mood music to get the creative juices flowing. The music is a bit quirky, but not so much so that a casual listener still won't enjoy it.

Tal "An Evening with Charlie" Album Review

mmmmm, tal.
A pretty soft blend of potentially jarring elements. Though ostensibly hiphop, these aren't hardcore beats, though glitchy in the sense that it incorporates sample chopping and static noises, it isn't a mashup in dynamics or style. With the exception of "Erotic Pinball" (which lives up to the name) this is good as very chill (re: "easy listening") and pretty strange hiphop. It's reminiscent of Funkstorung or Autechre in production style, but much more mellow, more funky and more melodic and musical than noise or texture based. The distinction between sounds manipulated via computer, sampler or turntable is blurred beyond recognition most of the time, making interesting listening for those into the technical aspects of hiphop & electronica. I highly recommend prefuse 73 and kid koala in addition to this record, and conversly recommend it to fans of both those artists.

Warm and sweet
This album is quite simply very beautiful. It can give you a soft feeling of comfort and warmth as you listen to it and is very good for relaxation or sleep. Although "Harmony" may seem a bit boring or meandering perhaps at times, it's hard to see it as much of a detriment. Most of "Harmony" is almost like a sound collage, some of which can sound very beautiful. The last track, "...And Then" is personally my favotite, relaxing, warm, comforting and beautiful. The rain sounds it starts out with and the gorgeous female vocals (only track with any vocals by the way) really make a perfect way to end the album. The cd says on it "Tiny Miracles in the Daily Life" and this album really conveys all that very well.

Risky but it works
And yes, I mean risky, not risque. I must be new to this type of music, which is why I feel it is risky. Whether or not you like each song that is heard on this album probably depends on whether or not you like the song after the first minute. Basically, each song stays the same after the first minute of hearing it. So you won't hear major developments when listening to songs that may last upwards of six minutes.

Fortunately, there is development throughout every song. That means that you'll hear some variety as you keep listening to each song. This is also good because if you like it after the first minute, you get another five minutes to only hear it get better. That positive point brings me to another somewhat bad point. The album is 54 minutes, which is decent length. But consider that this kind of music deserves a few more tracks. Does it make you feel desiring for more? Yes, but does the album feel complete? Definitely.

In fact, it may be that desire that makes Hint a risky band that's worth listening to. It's the style of music. Not only is it not normal for the generation, it's wihout words. It's the kind of music you might find in a video game. A video game sporting these kind of tempos and beats with polenty of variety in-between. But the fact that there are bands out there making this music makes this a very unique and special album. Yes, there are plenty other Ninja Tune artists doing this music, but Hint does it very well, and would likely serve you as a great introduction into this world of music, as it did for me.

Wonderfull
It is a very special album in my collection. I would say it does fit better with my classical rock collection then it fits my electronica collection. I would call it a hippy type music album. Lots of instruments, nice and insightful and not annoying vocals, some very strange melodies :) If you appreciate high quality music you will really appreciate it. Try to listen to those song samples that a provided by the www.Amazon.com before you buy, if you like those you will like the album.

Stay Clear
I own a massive collection spanning nearly everything on Compost Records and many many others along the 'broken beat' and 'nu-jazz' genres. Jazzanova, Tosca, Peace Orchestra, 4 Hero, Seiji, Minus 7, Cinematic Orchestra and Bonobo being some of my favourites- I could go on and on. Suffice to say the original Peace Orchestra album was superbly heavy and orginal with a lot of emotional feel. This on the other hand, is rubbish. The tracks are uninspired, repetitive and I know each and every artist here could've pushed themselves a whole lot more. It is rare for me to return a CD, but with this one I did instantly. My advice is stay clear, there really is so much more out there more worthy not only of your money, but your precious time!

Nightmares on Wax "Mind Elevation" Album Review

Easy on the Ears
I can't compare this album to previous Nightmares on Wax efforts, but it is clearly evident that fans of old were not too thrilled with this one. This was a complete random buy for me that turned out. It is not an amazing album but I like most tracks with the exception of "Environment" which is lame. A couple of noteable mentions are the opener, "Mind Eye" and "Thinking of Omara" (both without vocals). An always popular album to play in the background while entertaining guests at my place.

While Trademark of Jose Padilla, This Is Fresh!
The Sueno De Ibiza soundtrack is an album that I do not want to give a microscopic analysis of. It is something that I would listen to on a Sunday afternoon, driving on a long highway alone. It's trademark of Jose Padilla, a great chillout album that doesn't work like a sleeping pill (unlike most downbeat compilations). The blend of the acoustics (guitar and drums), bossa/jazz breaks, and innocence-lost vocals in some of his tracks is what makes Padilla's tracks a delicious experience. Padilla is an excellent DJ, mixer, and music programmer. He is legendary when it comes to compilations; the man behind a fleet of Cafe Del Mar compilations. This is a must have if you're already obsessed about Cafe Del Mar.
