Columbia's Chinese Students Club asked me to be a part of their Lunar Gala 2013 to benefit the Chinese Care Foundation. I don't get the chance to do much runway makeup, so I jumped at the chance to donate my services. It was strongly suggested that we use sequins on the student/models so I gave it go and was very pleased with the results!

Here are some tips when applying sequins:

Prep Time. Glue + Sequins = Mess! Set up an area with one or two synthetic liner brushes, makeup remover, cotton swabs, and if possible have model lean back or lay down. Prime eye area with a cream eye shadow (powder shadows don't hold up as well) whether neutral or colorful.

Glue and Go. Squeeze a dab of Duo Eye Lash Glue (1) onto a makeup palette (or hand mirror) and apply a light layer of glue with your liner brush, doing small sections at a time. For large sequins you can apply with tweezers or fingers. For small sequins, apply a patch of glue and sprinkle sequins over skin (this can get messy). Let dry for 60 secs then re-apply where needed. Try sequins from SparkleHaven (2).

The Edit. Makeup is all about cleaning-up and tweaking, so don't sweat it if you have sequins stick or don't stick where you want them. Remove sequins (gently and use a cotton swab and makeup remover to rid skin of glue).

Pretty it up. No matter how spectacular the makeup effect, we wanted a "pretty" look. A rosy lip color (3) and cheek warmed up the skin for a soft finish that complemented the sparkly eye.

Summer-ize your Foundation!

There is no need to put aside your everyday foundation when the thermometer climbs. A medium- to full-coverage liquid foundation can be adjusted daily for complexion changes due to weather, sun exposure and physical activity. So bring out your inner makeup artist and use the back of your hand to mix in one or several other liquid products to meet your summer skin needs.

How to Get Started

If you have a go-to foundation that you would rather not put aside during the warmer months, adding in other products can save you from having to put it temporarily out of commission. Mixing products doesn't have to be intimidating with these following steps.

Be sure to clean your hands and face. Avoid a mess by starting with small amounts of product. You always need less than you think.
Add a drop of foundation to the back of your hand and then add a drop of the other product.
Using your index finger or a makeup spatula, mix the products in a circular motion until the color is uniform.
Test a small amount of the mixture on your jawline, and repeat steps 2 and 3 until you achieve a desired consistency and color.

How to Create a Lighter Foundation

Formulate your own tinted moisturizer by adding face moisturizer to your liquid foundation. Use a daily moisturizer with SPF for extra sun protection.

Recipe: Mix 2 parts foundation to 1 part moisturizer (try The Body Shop Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30). Then test the coverage on face. If you want less coverage, add another drop of moisturizer. If you want more coverage, add a drop of foundation.

Tip: After mixing, apply on your face with a makeup wedge or foundation brush to avoid wasting product.

How to Create a Darker Foundation

You want your foundation to continually match your skin, even when it gets naturally suntanned or becomes darker from the application of sunless tanning products. To keep your foundation the shade you want, add a liquid bronzer.

Recipe: Start with 4 parts foundation to 1 part bronzer (try Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Luminous Liquid Bronzer). Test on your jawline and add more bronzer until the desired color is achieved.

Tip: Use a foundation with little or no bronzer to keep your under eye area lighter and avoid a muddy look.

How to Create a Mattifying Foundation

If your foundation is too emollient for your summer skin, add an oil-control moisturizer.

Recipe: Combine 2 parts foundation to 1 part lotion (try Bobbi Brown Oil Control Lotion SPF 15).

How to Create an Illuminating Foundation

Add illuminator to your foundation if you want your skin to look naturally radiant, but still want light coverage.

Recipe: Mix 3 parts foundation to 1 part illuminator (try Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in Shimmering Beige).

Tip: Instead of an eye shadow, use an illuminator on eyelids for a naturally lifted appearance.

I am officially obsessed with everything Adele. Her voice, her style, her soul, and especially her hair and makeup! It is great to have a glamour girl that actually has talent, isn't plastic, and eats food like the rest of us. All of you women out there who are so critical about themselves need to see what makeup, styling, and amazing lighting does to a women who just looks ordinary when out on the street. Sure she has amazing bone structure that is made for the camera and it doesn't hurt to have some cash. However, we all can add some glam to our everyday, non-grammy winning lives with a few easy steps.

This look can be very simple and done in 5 minutes.

Smooth foundation on your skin working gently from the center of your face (nose) blending outward.
Define cheekbones with a subtle contour. Work bronzer on and under your cheekbones then add pop of blush on the apples of your cheeks blending up on to cheekbone. (Go over with a smidgen of loose powder to ensure proper blending)
Use a flesh tone eyeshadow all over lid and place a neutral color into crease (matte or shimmer). Concentration of color is on the outer third of the eye.
Draw as thick of line as you dare on top lash line with a gel liner, liquid liner, or use a wet eyeshadow powder for the most subtle line. Wing line out subtly by with a flick of the wrist upperward. Fix with cotton swab if needed.
Fill in brows with hair like strokes. Accentuate the peak and elongate the tail of your eyebrows as needed.
