Logo Design

2009-10-27T09:58:00.000-07:00

Design is a slippery subject. Much of good design is a matter of taste, and tastes, like fashions, change. But leaving out the question of fashion in design, some tastes are better than others. You would expect someone who has studied design and has created what others consider good design to have better taste in design than the ordinary person. But some ordinary people have better design taste thanothers. How do they achieve this better design sense? By observation, simple observation. We are surroundedby examples of good design; all we have to do is take the time to look closely at what we take for granted. Many commercial artists maintain files of designs that they like; you can do something similar. Take few minutes to thumb through magazines. Cut out examples of logos that appeal to you and study thembefore you begin to create your own logo.

What is Logo

2009-10-25T18:14:00.000-07:00

What Is A Logo?

To understand what is a logo, you first must understand the main purpose of logos. The design process must aim to make the logo immediately recognizable, inspiring trust, admiration, loyalty and an implied superiority. The logo is one aspect of a company’s commercial brand or economic entity, and its shapes, colors, fonts, and images usually are strikingly different from other logo in the same market niche. Logos are used for identification.
Paul Rand, one of the world’s greatest designers states that “a logo is a flag, a signature, an escutcheon, a street sign. A logo does not sell directly, it identifies. A logo is rarely a description of a business. A logo derives meaning from the quality of the thing it symbolizes, not the other way around. A logo is less important than the product it signifies; what it represents is more important than what it looks like. The subject matter of a logo can be almost anything.”

Logo Concepts

2009-10-22T17:27:00.000-07:00

When designing a custom logo it is important for the graphic designer to understand the nature of the business and the designing needs. The Designer also know that a theme adds to the effect of the logo. They should also realize color scheme has to be perfect for the target audience. The logo of a company is the mascot of a company and often they themselves have a cartoon/animated mascot which remains in the minds of the viewer and helps them connect with the company.Since logo is the flag-bearer of business, it must reflect the true nature of business in a creative and interesting way.

Appearance of Log Design on different mediums

2009-10-22T10:52:00.000-07:00

Increasingly these days, business logo design has also to take account of how the desired image will come across by a computer monitor. Something that work well on paper may not suit the internet, which is fast becoming one of the most important way to communicate business ideals and promote a company or its products. Some fonts or images do not look good on monitor and colors can vary largely depending on the type of monitor used. Using bright contrast colors might look good in print but will often not work at all online.

Size and complexity of the Logo

2009-10-22T10:15:00.000-07:00

Size and complexity is also dictated by the media you intend to use. A logo that looks good on a letterhead or business card may not work when it’s enlarged to a poster, sign-written on your van or on a bus side panel. One of the most important elements of designing a logo then is that it can translate to other media and still come across well. Compiling a literature hierarchy or planning out all the potential uses of the device is equally important in order to see how logo examples will work across a variety of media, substrates and environments.

Complexity of the Logo Design

Good logo designer always consider many practical aesthetic components. For example how often will the logo are used on paper, package or sign? That will impact upon the complexity of the design from a re-production point of view and determine whether it needs to be full color or it can be in a simple one color, which will be much cheaper to print.

Effective Logo Designs

An effective logo design

2009-10-22T07:24:00.000-07:00

An effective logo design allows clients to join with the brand promptly by giving them something to recall. The logo is the fragrance of your brand and promptly communicates all the brand equities and personality that makes you different from your competitors. It’s not easy coming up with a successful logo for a company, in fact it’s one of the biggest challenges in graphic design. That simple graphic device has to encapsulate all a customer might need to know about an organisation.

A logo is a graphical element (ideogram, symbol, emblem, icon, sign) that, together with its logotype (a uniquely set and arranged typeface) form a trademark or commercial brand. Typically, a logo's design is for immediate recognition. The logo is one aspect of a company's commercial brand, or economic or academic entity, and its shapes, colors, fonts, and images usually are different from others in a similar market. Logos are also used to identify organizations and other non-commercial entities.
