Quantum Power

As you are probably aware, a couple of cards in series beta contained a mysterious black combo color. Many of you speculated that we would introduce new black cards somewhere down the road, but that is not quite it.
The color represents Quantum, an undefined state that is triggered when you fill your combo counter with one certain color and then play another card of that very same color. This will cause your counter to overload and you will receive a black quantum spot.

This new mechanic will have a small effect on anyone who tries to play many cards of the same color, but more specifically it will allow you to play cards that have a black combo requirement from today onward. Not only will this allow us to create cards that require longer combochains in the future, it will also open up new tactics for anyones deck, because you can get a quantum state with any color you desire. Looking at our first three quantum cards, you can put these into all kinds of decks, so we hope you will enjoy experimenting until we release more cards of this kind.

Keep in mind that for this update you won't have to replace your HUDs in world. Also feel free to head over to our forums for some discussion on the topic!

Introducing... what exactly?

Today at midnight we have activated a new gameplay feature that will introduce a brandnew tactical element to playing LOGOS. What is it? We're not telling, instead it is up to you to find out. Your efforts won't go unrewarded of course, because the first one who contacts Oni Horan with an accurate description of the new gameplay feature will win a set of these three cards (hint hint):

HUD Version 1.06 REQUIRED UPDATE!

This update is a security update. All older huds have been completely disabled and will FOREVER LOSE any card that is loaded into them. DO NOT LOAD CARDS INTO THESE OLD HUDS. WE WILL NOT REPLACE ANY CARDS YOU LOSE THIS WAY, EVER.

We have also reworked the card loading system after gathering data from the 1.05 Debug mode introduced, and completely reworked loading. I am confident this will resolve 95% of the loading issues people have been experiencing.

LOGOS Update 1.05 is Live!

The wait is finally Over! A lot of work has gone into this feature and stability release. However, we haven't forgotten about the players and their needs. We have included some of the most requested fixes and changes too. So head to the Update Satellite in BorgBeef and get your free update today!

The Release Notes:

NEW! Changed minimun deck size to 30.
NEW! Changed maximum deck size to 55.
NEW! 5 New DEMO cards have been added to the LOGOS universe. All players will get these cards in the update pack!
Upgraded the card loading encryption for greater reliability.
Fixed the Berserk Effect. It now takes effect on the target *only* if the target has health down to less than 25%.
Added some debug features for troubleshooting purposes.
Fixed a rare race condition when ejecting cards soon after loading them.
Fixed an issue where cards would generate a "duplicate" message when loading, but they aren't really duplicate.
Added HUD support for Multi-Card Eject.
Rewrote the card Transfer system (Server <--> HUD) for greater reliability and to support future features.
NEW! You are now told how many XP points you earn after a match.
Fixed a rare conditions where the Swap effect could UNDO itself if a backup was played against it.
Added new upcoming features. ;p

Neurograph Changes:

NEW! Touching the Neurograph gives you a list of LOGOS Players in the current sim. You can see their level and if they are currently in a game! If you have Viewer 2.xx, their name is clickable, and will open their profile directly.
Added new 'to White' and 'to Purple' effects to Neurograph.
Added new sound effects for Color Change and Berserk.
Fixed a visual issue with the Minimize Neurograph Display.
Added new upcoming features. ;p

Website Changes:

Reduced website single-card return delay from 30 seconds to 10 seconds.
Web Card view now shows the current count of cards in the HUD.
Added support for in the sim game tracking (see Neurograph).
NEW! Your web Control Panel now shows your In-Game Email address, and allows email forwarding to be turned on/off.

Tournament Board Changes:

Updated to support Berserk properly.
Added new upcoming features. ;p
NEW! Board can now check for updates from the menu, same as the Main HUD can.
NEW! The owner can now configure Win Notifications. This provides a notice of who won to the owner and/or people watching the match. The owner can choose between Whisper, Say, Shout,Owner Say, or No Message.

REMINDER: Older Alpha cards will no longer Load into the HUD. We will have an exchange program SOON!

As Noted: The Tournament Board has also been updated. If you own Tournament boards, Please use the NEW Tourney board updater OR IM Darien Caldwell for a Tournament Board Exchange. The old Tournament Board will NOT function properly with the new HUD Update.

Of epic banalities

A game like LOGOS is really only half the fun without a detailed backstory that puts all the cards you can collect into a context. Even though it might not be immediately evident, most of the motives actually fit into a pretty vast universe that was thought out well before deciding on the pictures.

We feel that with the release of our second series it is time to finally introduce a glimpse of that world to our players, so with pleasure we introduce the first entries in our hopefully evergrowing LOGOS glossary.

Every entry will cover a collection of thematically related cards, or even seperate ones. While this information is naturally entirely optional, we still hope to provide some additional value for those who appreciate it. We will keep you informed about updates in the future.

Series Alpha Upgrade coming Soon

As part of the Series Beta release, the encryption on the new cards was upgraded similar to how the HUD communcation was in version 1.04; It makes communication more reliable, reducing the chance of card loss and HUD jams.

I had hoped to phase things in slowly and gracefully, however, my strategy hit a snag. As many may have noticed, when loading Series Beta cards, you get a "Duplicate card Detected, Ditching" message consistently. While harmless, this is a side-effect of the HUD trying to accomodate both the old and new card encryption.

So I have to up the time table. HUD Version 1.05 is in the works, and when it comes out, the old encryption will no longer be supported. This means any old cards which use the old encryption will no longer load.

But fret not, with a little effort on each player's part, nothing will be lost. Today's Card Return Server upgrade replaces all of the old Series Alpha cards with *NEW* versions that use the *NEW* encryption. While waiting for HUD version 1.05 to come out, you can cycle your cards at your leisure, and get updated cards.

After HUD 1.05 releases, if you still have any old-encryption cards, we will be making a card exchange system available at the Update Satellite.

So in short:

Series Alpha cards loaded in your HUD are safe.
Series Alpha cards in your inventory should be loaded and ejected at some point before HUD 1.05 releases.
If some cards end up not getting cycled, we will handle those with an exchange system after HUD 1.05 releases.

Our eagle-eyed players have detected several mistakes across several cards. Here is a list of the cards updated today:

If you have any of these cards, cycle them through your hud to update them (load, and then unload from your HUD. If already loaded, Unload, then Load again).

The statistics on the website are correct in all cases, and those statistics are used during play. However the graphics on the card were not matching the actual statistics used. The website graphics will be updated over the next couple days.

Again I want to apologize to everyone for these oversights and should any more be found, please bring them to our attention. Thanks.

LOGOS expansion: Beta cards released!

The long awaited first major expansion for LOGOS is here!

Series Beta has been in development ever since LOGOS launched 6 months ago. It introduces over 100 new cards, along with a couple of surprises that will be revealed at a later point.

You will find a new effect and many cards to complement your personal tactics and playing styles. You should think of series Beta as an enhancement to the cards that are available in our alpha packs, not a replacement. To further reflect this we have decided to limit access to this card series to players that have gained at least level 5.
Anyone below that will not be able to purchase these cards from our stores, even though the cards remain usable in theory.

Special license badges will be distributed to all players who qualify from now, I will do my best to deliver those to everyone who is already past the according levels as soon as I can.

We hope that our community will enjoy trying out this expansion and we are very eager to see how it will change the game. Of course you can expect us to keep a very close eye on how things work out, in case some tweaking needs to be applied.

LOGOS Official Forums are Live!

Today we are proud to announce several new services for LOGOS players.

First and foremost, we now have official forums, for all registered players to use to discuss, debate, promote, and support LOGOS and LOGOS related things! But before you can see the forums, you have to learn how to log in.

Forums

This will sound more complex than it is, because I want to go over all the details available. Basically to log into the forums, you log into your account here at Logos-Cards.com, and from your control panel, click "forums". It's that easy.

However, if you go to the forums directly at http://forum.logos-cards.com, and are not logged into the site, you'll see the OpenID login screen (this page will change later):

If you already know your LOGOS OpenID, enter it in the second blank. If not, click the link to go to your OpenID management page. login using your Logos website name/password if needed, and you'll see what your LOGOS OpenID is and a list of your last logins using it:

There is also a link at the bottom which will log you directly into the forums.

Your Inbound Email

You may notice your OpenID id has an email address as part of it. This is a valid address! All registered players now have a permanent, incoming email address for their avatar! These emails will be delivered to you in-world.

There are some limitations:

You can't send messages with it, only receive
Any attachments in the email will be lost.
HTML formatting is stripped off, you will only receive the plain text of the message.

You can determine your email address from the OpenID page above, or simply use your avatar name in this format: avatar.name[at]slconductor.appspotmail.com (replace [at] with @. Stupid spammers)

Any emails sent there will come directly to you!

Manifesting the LOGOS Pt.2

Having finished 66 cards today, which is about 2/3rds of the way, I figure it is time for another teaser. Today we will look at the new effect.

As some of you have probably realized, our effect list has one effect that has not made an apearance in the game just yet: The Berserk effect.
It works as follows: If the player that played this card is in critical condition, or in other words, has less then 25.000 HP, the Attack and Defense of the target will be doubled.
Essentially you will realize that this turns Mary into quite an efficient card, given the right circumstances. Naturally you can expect quite a few of these new cards in the new series, which hopefully will add another layer to our game and provide you with various new situations to try out!
Better save up some Neutralize cards...

LOGOS Cards: DEMO Edition

Today LOGOS is proud to announce the release of a DEMO Version of the most popular Collectible Card Game in Second Life!

With this DEMO Copy, players can experience all the fun and excitement of LOGOS, before they buy. The DEMO HUD can play against other DEMO HUDs, or against full featured HUDS. However when battling a full copy of the game, no score is kept for either party. It is a demo after all!

Registered Players can obtain a free DEMO copy to give to friends, aquaintances, and interested parties, so they can try the game before they buy.

This is a limited functionality DEMO Version of the game. It has many features of the full game, except:

You can not load or eject cards.
You can not use the web-based card management features
You can not participate on the official forums
No score is kept for your matches, and you don't show up in the player list.

To obtain a free DEMO copy to share, visit either of our Main Locations, or one of the many Community Arenas.

Orthodox Tournament Results

Today's Tournament at Orthodox was a huge success! The whole sim was jumping all day (and so were some spectators) as some of the fiercest competitors faced off for a Battle Royal of LOGOS proportions!

We saw a lot of really good games (and one very, very long one, haha!) and fun was had by all. But in the end, only one could stand victorious.

The final match came down to Jazimina Calamity, the Cunning Cat, versus Tuney Pink, the Timid Rabbit. But when the smoke cleared, only one was standing:

Congratulations Tuney Pink!

Tuney walks away with L$1000 and the tile of Ultimate LOGOS Badass!

Orthodox Tournament Kickoff!

Saturday, Sept 25th LOGOS Cards in conjunction with Orthodox 1700 plan to kick things off right with a Tournament to test your skill with the LOGOS against other players for Fun and L$1000 in cash! We hope everyone can be there to join in the fun.

Some specifics:

Registration is open to all and ends at 1:30 PM Saturday
Maximum registration will be 14 players, so get in early
Any registered player not at the battleground by 1:45 PM may be replaced by another available player. So be prompt!
Tournament will follow the official logos rules found here: Official Events
Type is RRDE (Round Robin Double Elimination) as listed in the official rules.
The prize money for this week's tournament is coming from Orthodox (L$250) and LOGOS Cards (L$750)

So be sure to come out for the competition, or for the fun, spectators are encouraged! See you in the sim of Shepherd (29,158,109) at the Orthodox HQ!

Manifesting the LOGOS Pt.1

As those among you who have been nagging on a daily basis should be aware, the production of our second card series is currently heavily under way.
Because we want to make sure every card is unique and fun, both creatively and gameplaywise, it takes a lot of time to put all the right ingredients together. Especially since this series will have a total of 100 cards when it is released to the public! At that point the game will have ~200 cards and hopefully offer enough versatility for dozens of different decks.

Today 55 cards finished, the release is starting to shift to the horizon, which is why from today on we will be teasing you from time to time with new cards to look forward to.

Naturally we wouldn't want to spoil you with the biggest cards already, so let us start with a simple one, Recursion. Most of you should have experienced the Mimmick effect at this point and if you have, surely you will see the potential in this unique card. Not only does it copy an effect, on top of that it blocks that same effect for your enemy, essentially stealing it. More to follow...

A few Updates

Just a couple items today:

We have added a new Arena to our Official Arena List. Check out Mission's Basement!

As well, we have made a couple more card adjustments:

The Nubian Warlord was found to have an incorrect speed. Speed was changed from 82 to 65.
The Bostrom Hacker DEMO card has had a balance adjustment (It's second adjustment since release). The following two changes were made:

The Combo requirement was changed from G - X - G to X - X - G

A Self-Effect was added, which clears the Combo of the player playing the card.

Please Cycle your cards to pick up these changes. Site graphics will be updated in the next few days.

Service Provider Downtime Notification

Our Back-End Service Provider has given notice of downtime maintenance they will be conducting on Sept. 13th, 2010 (Monday) from 4 PM to 5 PM SL Time.

During this downtime, Updates to your score, and changes to your currently loaded deck will not be saved. Gameplay is highly discouraged. The HUD will notifiy you of the downtime while it's ongoing. And another notice will be sent when it's complete. If you have any questions, please contact Oni Horan or Darien Caldwell in SL.

Update 1.04, Oops

The first update put out today, 1.03, has been blacklisted from returning cards via the website, as it has a serious bug that can corrupt decks. Please Upgrade to the new version 1.04 as soon as possible. Update available at LOGOS Update Satellite.

The wait is finally Over! A lot of work has gone into this stability release. However, we haven't forgotten about the players and their needs. We have included some of the most requested fixes and changes too. So head to the Update Satellite in BorgBeef and get your free update today!

The Release Notes:

v1.03 HUD Changes:
- (Hopefully) fixed an issue with error-after-TP problems with HTTP-URL acquisition.
- Fixed an issue where a game ends by players moving too far apart, yet the HUDs still believe a match is in progress. (this could lead to instant losses and endless lockdowns)
- Fixed a False Lockdown condition at startup, cards could be played before the HUD had fully initialized. Thanks goes to Felaeris Kojishi for precisely identifying the condition responsible!
- Made another Attempt to correct the race condition that causes nearby HUD detect to constantly 'chirp' when many players are in close proximity. I must have been sleepy on my last attempt, the code made no sense! :0) Please give me feedback on this latest attempt.
- Corrected several methods of hud lockup. Some will report messages in chat and ask that you send me the message. Please do so, this will allow me to judge the effectiveness of the fix.
- Updated the HUD encryption to better handle laggy sim conditions.
- Rewrote the card dealing code to use less resources, be 'more random'.
- Fixed an issue where the Low health Crisis alarm would sometimes only play once, even if one's health dipped below 25000 more than once.
- Adjusted the Minimize feature on the huds to better handle Viewer 2 Interface design.
- Made the temporary password for first-time users more 'obvious'.
- Adjusted the Resign and Backup Buttons around the Attack/Defense button, so they don't overhang anymore. <3
- Added many scripty bits to support ucoming new changes and features.

Balance Changes:
- After watching a lot of gameplay, and receving a lot of feedback from players, and having many lively debates, we have decided to institute a new conditional EVENT. In the case where a player gets pushed down to only two card slots, *if* and *when* a lockdown occurs, They will be granted 'Celestial Intervention', and receive a free cargo slot. This can only occur *once* per game.
- Fixed bugs with Moon Lillith, CyberBoots, and Nubian Warlord cards.

Website Changes:
- Updated to new Encryption scheme
- Fixed some spelling errors

Neurograph Changes:
- Added a touch menu. The Camera Effect can be Enabled or Disabled.

Tournament Board Changes:
- Removed false 'Sync Error' message.
- Added 'Board Channels' to separate play-by-play chat for multiple Tournament boards in close proximity. Each board should be set to a different channel. The spectator can set their headphones to the channel of the board they wish to listen to.
- Upgraded encryption to work with 1.03 HUDs and above.

As Noted: The Tournament Board has also been updated. If you own Tournament boards, Please IM Darien Caldwell for a Tournament Board Exchange. The old Tournament Board will NOT function with the new HUD Update.

A few Items of Interest...

Balance. It's an important concept. The various things I'm going to be talking about today have a thread of balance running through them all. So here goes:

The team at LOGOS is always eager to assist our players in organizing and promoting special events such as Tournaments, League play-offs, and other events of interest to the LOGOS community.
However, we must also balance this with an eye to ensuring the quality and integrity of such events that we put our name on. With this in mind, the LOGOS Team in conjunction with our Arena owners, have created a set of rules and guidelines to govern events that the LOGOS Team Sanctions or Sponsors. You can read these new rules here. The permanent link will be http://www.logos-cards.com/community/official-events We hope by having these rules and continuing to promote events under their umbrella, we can all continue to have fun and and benefit from the wide array of experiences the LOGOS community can provide! :)

Speaking of balance, in the upcoming Update to LOGOS (yes it's coming!), we will be adding a new component to better balance a situation I think we all have experienced. Yes, I'm talking about the dreaded Slot decimated Lockdown! Starting in version 1.03, if at any time during the game, someone experiences a Lockdown while they are down to 2 slots, they will 'mange to engineer a spare card slot before depleting reserves'. This free slot will only be given ONCE per game. We believe after studying many games, receiving much feedback, and discussing at length, this will provide the best balance. But we would love to hear your thoughts before it goes live.

3 Cards have been found to have errors recently. The cards are Moon Lillith, CyberBoots, and Nubian Warlord. In fact the links may not even show the correct graphics yet. (but soon!) The stats in text are correct. Anyone with these cards loaded should eject and reload them. Anyone with these cards unloaded, should load then Eject them. This will ensure you end up with the updated card.

As hinted at above, update 1.03 is just around the bend. But I won't spoil the surprise yet.

Weekly Roundup for Aug 16th

There is lots of things going on in the LOGOS Universe!

On the Events/News front:

LOGOS got a nod from Pathfinder Lester during his Keynote Address at the Second Life Community Convention. You can watch the recorded feed taken at SLCC here. (for the impatient, the mention of LOGOS starts at about 11min 30sec but I recommend watching the whole thing!)
Kotaku, the Gamer's Guide, sent a reporter into the dark recesses of LOGOS Space, and what he found there may surprise you. Read his tale of unlikely things in unlikely places as posted on their site.
If you missed it, Critical Hit hosted the Very First LOGOS Tournament in Second Life, Check out some pictures and see who won here.

On the Game front:

The Tournament Board was Released! The story here.
Next development phase will be another pass over the HUDs to fix some outstanding issues. But, I still like to plug holes in the website now and then. In fact, I work on it daily, though most changes aren't visible to you. But some are. And to speak to that, several new features were added to the site today:

Card List Output: On your Card View screen, you can now output a copy-pastable list of your loaded cards, perfect for sticking in notecards, chat, or anywhere else. Just look for the "List Cards" button.

Error Refresh: Some of the errors on the website can result in the site showing the "You have no cards" page. But now, There is a handy "Refresh Card View" button there, so you can gracrefully recover from such a problem, without having to log out and log back in. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. :) Of course if you *really* don't have any cards, it won't do much. ;p

I lengthened the Rank Page, to show more of the New Players' ranks. We're up to 239 players now! (as of this writing)

And dare I say, we have more "Fancy Fluff" in the works. But the "Fancy Fluff" wouldn't matter without you, the players. Thanks everyone for making LOGOS great.

Straight from the battlefield

Today, for the first time ever, all your card flinging, deck building, website studying and evil scheming was tested in a public tournament of epic proportions.

Vickor Gearbox and his team from Critical Hit worked really hard to organize a chaotic collection of eager participants into a cohesive event and we were really overjoyed to see so many gamers come together and spend their time trying to compete for the ultimate victory. Big thanks on behalf of the LOGOS community to Critical Hit!

24 players registered and were spread across three classes. 3 hours and dozens of battles later only three of our combatants stood victorious:

Your prayers have been heard: Today we finally released the official LOGOS cards spectator board. Equiped with state of the art aerodynamic optimizations the spectator board will be the best friend for everyone who needs their games to be shown to companions and strangers.
Remember: To humiliate your opponents with maximal efficiency it is always best to have a crowd watching!
