Another repeat customer, I worked with scott to create a nice look to his new thesis themed debt settlement site. Here is the result:

Worked with Tom over at http://canadianfinanceblog.com/ to create a new blog identity package including logo, favicon and other various graphics. He just launched over this past weekend, and is now using the Headway Wordpress Theme (check my review here) along with the logos we created for him. I think it turned out really well! Thanks Tom!

Another repeat customer, this logo was done for a site that gives “how to tutorials” for computer users everywhere. Turned out pretty well, one of my recent favorites!

This logo was for another repeat customer, and done for a site talking about juice scams where companies will claim that their juices have all sorts of health effects that are pretty dubious. Check it out!

I’ve talked a lot about Thesis on this site, mainly because I think it’s one of the best wordpress themes available. I have 3 sites that I use Thesis on, and it allows me to make each one custom without a lot of hassle.

Within the past couple of days Thesis has launched an update, version 1.6, that makes Thesis even easier to use than before. The update gives even more control over the fonts, background colors, and most especially the navigation menus.  You can now have drop down navigation menus without any extra plugins or hassle. How cool is that?

Thesis Theme 1.6 Updates And Enhancements

So what were some of the things found in the 1.6 update?

• New  design and color options: change fonts and colors pretty much anywhere in the theme. That means background colors, nav menus – pretty much anywhere!   Before you had to do this through the custom.css file.  Now you can do it right through the options menu.
• Automatic dropdown nav menu: You can now add drop down navigation menus to your Thesis themed site, something that is completely new since the last update.   (check out the video below for setting these up).
• Custom file editor in your WordPress dashboard: Now you can edit your custom.css file directly in the wordpress dashboard without the need for extra plugins.  It’s extremely handy,  I’ve already used it several times!
• New options menu in the WordPress dashboard: Thesis now gets it’s own options/menu placement in wordpress so it’s always easy to find!
  
• Other miscellaneous fixes: fixes for post images and thumbnails, IE specific styles and a few other bugs.

Created a new site header and favicon for a new fan site for the Palm Pixi. Turned out pretty well i think!

I’ve been using the Thesis Wordpress Theme for quite some time now, and I’ve continually been impressed with how easy upgrades are with it, the plethora of options available using the thesis backend, and how I’ve been able to customize the theme for my own uses. Still, there are times where Thesis can be a bit daunting for those who don’t know a whole lot of CSS or PHP. Making changes that aren’t standard changes can be confusing for someone without the basic skills. The forums help for this type of thing, but it’s still enough to keep a user with limited skills from attempting too many changes.

Today I was reading a review of a new theme that could be the next big thing for Wordpress themes. It’s called the Headway Wordpress Theme. Many are comparing the theme to thesis in that in it’s basic form it does look similar to Thesis. But when you look under the hood, it has even more features than Thesis has when it comes to customizing the options.

Here’s a few of the options that Headway has that impressed me.

• Rearrange your site layout with drag and drop.
• The theme’s design panel allows you to change site dimensions, update and change colors or fonts, and more.
• The configuration panel allows you to customize just about everything you could ever want to modify. Easily rearrange your site navigation with drag and drop, add content to the header (including header graphics) or footer of your website for analytic scripts, add a favicon, etc.
• Good Search Engine Optimization. Your site will be optimized in order to show

So far it seems like this theme will really be a force to reckon with – it has almost everything that Thesis does, but more. Rumors are that may be changing though as Thesis will be coming out with version 2.0 in September which should have a ton of new features.
