an excerpt from Sweetgrass Productions’ VALHALLA

From backflips through old growth trees to huge airs over raging summer creeks, the action begs the question: “How’d the hell they do that?!” For the full feature length film, head here: georiot.co/1ZKv

Starring Cody Barnhill, Sierra Quitiquit, Alex Monot, Pep Fujas, Zack Giffin, Eric Hjorleifson, Molly Baker, and Kazushi Yamauchi

Beyond action sports– with Valhalla’s totally unique style and structure, we’ve recognized an opportunity to put a daring new spin on the ski film, exploding the boundaries of the genre, opening the eyes and melting the hearts of any story-loving soul. With hard-hitting ski and snowboard action complimenting a more narrative-driven approach than our past films, or perhaps any other ski movie before it, we follow one man’s escape into the Northern woods, and his wild journey towards satisfaction, understanding, and love in some of the deepest snows on earth.

Weaving story and character with award-winning, face-melting backcountry ski and snowboard cinematography; Valhalla is a vivid explosion of color, character, snow, and nostalgic soul.

Raised on the steeps of California’s Eastern Sierra range, E-Jack grew up riding the massive parks of Mammoth and exploring the surrounding backcountry as a hyperactive grom. Driven by his older brother John, Eric rode twice as hard and developed a deep bag of tricks and explosive style. This dedication quickly earned him professional status and a yearly spot on the Standard Films roster. In 2011, Eric joined a new crew and produced a mind-bending blower pow-filled part for People Films’ Good Look that earned him Men’s Video Part of The Year honours from TransWorld Snowboarding as well as a spot on SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s Top Ten Riders Of The Year list. In this wayward wanderer’s most recent adventure, Eric embarked on the mission of lifetime, road tripping and riding from Alaska all the way down to the tip of South America with his brother and it was all documented in the award-winning web series, Brothers on the Run.

It is a heroic test of physical and emotional endurance all for his mission to raise funds and awareness for the children of Mongolia.

A character-driven film, Strong to the Finish juxtaposes Brian’s idealistic family life, both at home and as they join him on the expedition, against the harsh reality of life on the streets in Mongolia.

Synopsis
This is a visual story about splashing some colour into your lives, by opening your eyes, breaking away from the mould and following your dreams. As wave sliders, we are inspired by waves to travel the globe in search of perfect waves but the deeper you look and the further you go, you realise that its not about finding that perfect slide…its about the people you meet and what you find along the way and how these experiences change you deep within.

The Road From Karakol from Outdoor Research on...

The Road From Karakol from Outdoor Research on Vimeo.

outdoorresearch.com
ducttapethenbeer.com

In summer 2011, Outdoor Research athlete Kyle Dempster took off on his bike across Kyrgyzstan with a couple mostly-accurate maps, a trailer full of climbing gear, and a vocabulary of 10 Kyrgyz words. He spent two months pedaling and pushing the bike more than 1200 km on roads of variable states of neglect, wading through wild rivers, dealing with corrupt military checkpoint staff, and soloing a handful of unclimbed alpine rock and mixed routes. He recorded the journey, his camera his only partner, friend, and sometimes the only receiving end of his conversations for days at a time.

In 2013, Kyle’s self-shot footage of his journey in Kyrgyzstan made it to the desk of filmmakers Fitz Cahall and Austin Siadak, who were asked to look at the footage and see if there might be enough to chop together a 4-minute climbing film. They saw a lot more potential in it, and turned it into the 25-minute “The Road From Karakol,” which debuted at the 5Point Film Festival and took home the Best In Fest award.
