Playing with DMesh

So I downloaded DMesh.

It basically converts your images to triangles.

BUT, it also lets you put your own vertices on the image.
Well, i didn't know what that meant either, so I played around with it for a while.

when you allow DMesh to create it's own attempt, it looks kinda crappy:

I tried working with the image to make it look decent, but it was just too much.

THEN i found out you can erase the computers best guess and just start putting dots on your own.

You can only export PNG, PDF (?), and OBJ, which is a 3D model file extension.

I exported as a PDF and then converted it into an Adobe illustrator file. THEN I brought it into Adobe Animate (formerly known as Flash), because I know the tools better in there.

In Animate, I could move vertices around, change the color of rogue triangles, and clean it up a bit more. Then I can export it as whatever I want.

Pardon the crappy pic; my good camera is my phone.

So I bought this thing a while ago, to see if it would work with any of my smartphones.

NOPE!

So I put it away for a while, not thinking about it.

Eventually I got a new smartphone; the LG G4. On a whim, i plugged it in. It worked!

EUREKA~!

So, as far as I can tell, the Micro USB port is also a SlimPort, which can use this HDMI adapter to send the screen to the monitor.

The great thing about this little adapter is that you can also plug in a micro usb charger to it so it can both mirror your G4 and charge at the same time.

SO... next week Google is going to release their new Nexus phones.

What is Amazon to do with their stocks of their "now obsolete" Nexus 6 handsets?

The prices for new Nexus 6 phones have dropped from $550 dollars to $350, and their 64GB models have gone down to $400. Pretty good deal, if you don't mind "old technology".

The Amazon phones are UNLOCKED, so if your cell phone company uses SIMS, you should be good (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) Just MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE AMERICAN model (XT1103), which I believe is not an issue if you buy from the "American" Amazon site!

I'm an Animator that can't draw; is that so bad?

So yes. I have done a few animations. The hardest part of animating, for me is...

MAKING UP STUFF!

Yes, I am an animator, but my main issue has always been that I assumed in order to be a good animator, I had to be a fantastic artist.

Well... over the years, I have realized that I can't create content out of my head to save my life!

Some of the best work I've done is when someone else has created the drawings, and all I have to do is trace them, rig them, and animate them.

As an example, the cartoon I created, "The Medium Doesn't Matter", was first a comic strip.

After that, it just took me two weeks-- on and off, not all the way through-- to make the cartoon. I mean, i was working AND going to Grad school, and was STILL able to churn out a one and a half minute cartoon.

So... I REALLY think if I found someone out there that had a comic strip, that I could easily animate it--depending on it's style. I mean, I'm not looking to go crazy here! I wanna have fun, and be creative, and ANIMATE, dammit!

So, if you know any comic strip people whom you think would make a good comic strip, please leave a comment!

Candy Cane Flavored Soda: Is it as BAD as you think?

Hey, at least it's Pure Cane Sugar....

I am not much of a soda drinker. If I'm going to get bloated with empty calories, I'd rather get a buzz while I'm at it. However, while buying sodas for the family, I spotted this eyecatcher; Candy Cane flavored soda.

"Dear god, technology has gone too far", I thought.

Of course, being one that is intrigued by abominations that should never see the light of day, I bought it.

I showed the wife the package and she promptly began making puking noises; something that she does not do lightly. It seems she believes you should not drink your food.

However this is ok?

I put the 12 pack in the fridge, figuring that I was going to be the only one drinking it. I did, however, wet a paper towel, wrap a soda can with it, and put it in the freezer for around 15 minutes; I was curious. Curious like how you wonder how a stun gun feels like.

Tickly? Pinchy?

Eventually I decided to just stop the suspense and put some ice in a cup. It isn't the way I like to drink my sodas (when I drink them), but I may as well not complain of the color of the baton I am going to be beaten with.

Please, officer. Can you just shoot me instead?

What does it matter? Whether I like it or not, I will be finishing the case all on my lonesome, anyway.

Anyhoo, I poured myself a nice glass of candy cane soda and gave it a taste.

How to explain it...

When my wife saw that I wasn't screaming of disgust, she insisted on having a taste--before I could describe what I was experiencing with my mouth.

I shrugged my shoulders and gave her the cup. She took a conservative swig and promptly grimaced and would have spit out the red soda if she didn't know that she'd have to clean it up.

She said that it tasted TOO MUCH like candy canes, and it was just plain weird to drink candy canes!

Yes. That is totally the weirdest thing a soda has ever tasted like...

So, what does it taste like?

Well, the closest approximation I could come up with is if you were chewing spearmint gum--like, a LOT of spearmint gum--then promptly drank a Big Red soda. I would say that the mint taste is not as strong as, say, sucking on an Altoid, but just smacks lightly of mint.

Yum?

Would I recommend it? Sure. Why the hell not. What do I know what you'd like. It isn't a BAD taste, and if you can keep yourself of thinking of the sensation of swallowing a mouthful of drool after chewing up a bunch of candy canes and holding it in your mouth for 5 minutes, then I think you'll be fine.

Dammit, computer....

So, here at my job, I have a Mac, and I play my ~~Buckethead~~ music through iTunes, much to the chagrin of my office mate.

I'll make you a Buckethead fan yet, Roommate!

However, lately, whenever I try to mute my music whenever someone walks into my office to ask me a question, my F8/Pause button does not work anymore! I wondered what was going on, and did some research.

I remembered that I had just updated my Google Play App on my Chrome Browser. I upgraded because it allows you to upload music to your Google Play account through your browser. Which is great, because I change my iTunes app a lot, and Play keeps EVERY DIFFERENT VERSION of a song I have... but that is another story.

What I FOUND, though, is that the Google Play app takes advantage of those very same media keys, so you can, for example, play and pause music playing on your browser through Google Play.

Nice, EXCEPT for one thing; it makes the shortcuts GLOBAL. Which means those shortcuts only work for Google Play. Therefore, it takes away the media keys functionality for iTunes, or any other music application you may be using the media keys for!

However, there is a rather easy way to fix and/or tweak that.

Hit the Settings menu (the stack of three hot dogs), then Extensions.

No, not that hot dog menu... but put a pin on that.

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and find the Keyboard Shortcut link.

Once you click on the keyboard shortcut, you'll get a floating window, showing all the keyboard shortcuts you can assign to the extensions and apps in your Chrome browser.

I, personally, have shortcuts for Window Resizer that are really handy. Now, if you look at the Google Play Music section, you can see that it has commandeered your media buttons. Which is okay, except for the fact that it is GOLBAL.

"You sunnovabitch...."

All you need to do is click the drop-down menu and choose "In Chrome", instead!

What that will do is still allow Google Play Music to use the keyboard shortcuts, but only when the Chrome Browser is selected. However, if Google Play Music is your MAIN source of music, and you want to be able to play and pause your Google Play Playlist from any application you are running, change the shortcuts to Global.

Nah. I'm good....

Used after effects to import all the 4K images I exported from Flash and to sync the audio, then exported it using the 2160P YouTube setting in Adobe Encoder.

I got the comic strip from iguanamouth.tumblr.com. I used the images to create the animated characters by tracing them in Flash. I, of course, had to take some creative liberties, especially with mouth shapes and the walking cycle.

Then Taylor, from tylersvathings.tumblr.com, recorded the audio with his voice, as well as Jay, from http://pyrope.tk.

I got the audio, put it in the Flash timeline, and created the following animation.

Why? Just to see if I still can. It is MUCH easier when somebody else does the audio for me. Heck, it's a lot easier if someone else does the DRAWING for me; I'm pretty ok when it comes to staying on spec.

Who is this Stinky Wizzleteats, Stimpys favorite musician? Well, it is actually kinda weird, because it is based on a real person. Supposedly John K. used quotes from this actors music and quotes from his movie roles to create the song.

I remember the first time I saw Ice-Ice Baby; It was during the second part of my Army Boot camp. A couple of months into Desert Shield, but not quite Desert Storm.

I was at a "club". It was for the basic training noobs, and they just served sodas. They had a high tech "Video Jukebox", and they were playing this.

That was the most hopeless I had ever felt.

Having it makes you cool; not knowing what it can do is not important right now....

I have two ~~loves~~ interests in my life... at the moment. (Love is too strong of a word for it.)

One, is belts. Why is that? I always wanted to find the perfect belt, which is difficult for me. I use ONE belt hole, and my pants are showing off my crack, but if I go to the NEXT belt hole, well, I feel like I'm being squeezed to death by a python.

Why must you belittle my pain?

The second love of my life is Multi Tools. Ever since MacGyver and his Swiss Army knives (it broke my heart when I found out he went back and forth between Victorinox and Wenger), I have always loved the pocket gadget. Nowadays, if I don't have a miniature lighter, a compass, and at least five ways to open a beer bottle, I feel unprepared.

I cannot take my keys out at the city park anymore, though...

That is why I am excited to try out this new belt buckle! I mean, sure, it has a few sharp edges, and it may scrape up against my ~~beer gut~~ abs, but I think I can handle it.

And while I'm buying this belt, I can go through their wonderful selection of decals and AR-15 Parts, 'cause EVERYBODY needs spare parts for their AR-15!

GADZOOKS! I hope I didn't end up in some Government List...

Anyhoo, if can't carry tools on your belt because you don't have a belt, you can have an existential moment by buying this belt.

I never had an issue eating the paper cupcake wrappers; Hey, take the good with the bad! But supposedly this is some kind of issue, since they have now created edible Cupcake cups.

Kids nowadays. What's next; seedless watermelons?

Anyway, it seems that you don't even have to purchase specialized baking hardware, either. They just stand on any flat pan. So, is that where we're going? We are going to allow ANYBODY to make cupcakes, without having to deal with trying to accurately scoop batter in crappy, grungy cupcake pans?
