What Others are Saying about George Jardine’s Workshops:

I have nothing but praises for George Jardine and his Lightroom workshop. Having just purchased the Lightroom software, I was totally in the dark at the beginning of the class. George was so easy to follow and his presentation was excellent. I learned so much and look forward to taking another one of his modules. ~ Emelyn Morris-Sayre

I love George Jardine, not only is great photographer, but an awesome teacher as well! At his last Lightroom workshop, I learned so much that helped my work flow process, and the information he shared with us gave a boost to my Stock Photography business! His workshops are fun and entertaining, and shares his stash of yummy treats! George is FANTASTIC! ~ Teri Virbickis

“Last fall I took George’s Lightroom workshops covering the modules of Lightroom 4. I could not believe there was so much to learn in the library module on how to catalogue photos, key wording, etc. I will have to go back and review the DVD’s that were given and the one’s that I also bought so that I could further gain from his great instruction. I have been using Lightroom since it was initially introduced but found that there were many things I did not use that were there for me the whole time. I am now able to use the develop module to further enhance my photos to get the results that I want to get. Truthfully, I wasn’t getting the results that I wanted, and when I made the changes that were taught in class it made such a big difference! There are certain things I do now, after this class, in the Develop module that I never did prior to taking the class. Conversely there are things that I was doing that I would never do now! I highly recommend taking all modules that George teaches.” ~Nona Radin

Join us for an evening of night photography training from award winning photographer, Mike Berenson (http://www.coloradocaptures.com). Back by popular demand, Mike will be returning on Monday, May 20th for a training session that focuses on the post-processing side of night photography. And as a real treat, this training session is free to LTPC members and guests.

Mike will show the key steps he uses in bringing his straight-out-of-the-camera captures to life in post-processing. Watch and learn as Mike demonstrates several of the key steps he uses in working with his images using his favorite post-processing tools. Take away lots of helpful new resources for getting more information later on. Then, take advantage of your chance to ask your own questions in the Q&A session at the end.

We have 3 months of presentations, exhibitions, competitions and workshops under our belt! Whew! It’s been a crazy and fun first quarter!

I heard good news from the Visions of Light, our Lone Tree Photography Club members won big! Congratulations go to:

Rich Spellman for “Lanyon Quoit #2″ won 1st place Architecture and Best of Show AND “Desert Ram” (my fav!) won 1st Place Wildlife

Eric Wulfsbery for “Escher’s Stairway” won 1st Place Abstract

Brad McDowell for “Virga” 1st Place Landscape

Charles Lehman for 2 Honorable Mentions

Lloyd Davis for “Bison Burger” Honorable Mention

More exciting news came from those who have been accepted into the Lone Tree Photographic Art Show and Sale. There were 606 entries, with only about 90 being accepted. I’ve heard from at least 8 members of the Club that they are among the ones selected! It’s going to be a great show, I hope everyone will get out to see it and enjoy the Reception on April 20 from 3-5 p.m.

Don’t forget to purchase your ticket for the Weldon Lee Event on May 18th from 3-6 at the Lone Tree ARTS Center. $30. Weldon is a renown wildlife photographer who is judging the Photographic Art Show this year. Follow this link to read more about it.

With all the activities surrounding the Club of late, I’ve been getting some lectures from my business partners. Basically, they know me and know I tend to take on more than I should. The best lecture of late has been how I need to keep my ducks in a row. I need to count my ducks and I must not take on responsibility of anymore ducks!

I’m going to ask the members to help me with a duck or<del> two, </del>three.

First duck I need someone to care for is the Library Show Duck. The Lone Tree Library invites us to show our photos for the month of June. This Duck Herder would need to organize a crew to hang the images for a couple hours on Sunday and another crew to remove them from the walls at the end of the month. We can post a request for help on the website and possibly provide some able duck hunting for this head duck. If you can help, please contact me. If I cannot get help, I will be forced to cancel the Library show. Sorry, that’s how it is. THANK YOU ELANE COMEAUX for sending me an email already! Elane has volunteered to organize the show! Yeah!

Second Duck is we need a Head Duck to organize the Lone Tree Photography Club table at the Weldon Lee Photo Seminar. This Duck only needs to recruit a couple friendly ducks to be nice to people and pass out brochures during the session on May 18. So ducky!

Third Duck needed is a cool dude duck who isn’t afraid to ask people to give him stuff to present as door prizes. We need about 6 really cool photography related door prizes to impress the attendees and the City of Lone Tree Fathers that we can put on a fun day of photography at the Art Center. Are you up to the challenge? Be a hero and volunteer!

Please note that none of these positions require a year long commitment. They take some time, a little planning and actually will result in fun and recognition. Let me hear from you soon!

About the Instructor:

Jason P. Odell became interested in photography when he received his first camera, a Kodak Ektralite 10, in elementary school. He routinely experimented in his mother’s home darkroom and was occasionally allowed to borrow her Nikkormat EL SLR. Jason continued his passion for photography throughout high school, where he was a photographer and editor of the school yearbook.

Jason studied biology at UCLA and later earned his doctorate from the University of California, Riverside. While studying, his field biology work took him to the island of Trinidad, West Indies, where he developed a passion for photographing birds and other wildlife. Jason’s doctoral adviser was also an avid nature photographer, so trips to the field always involved packing cameras and lenses.Jason taught at the university level for eight years and has a passion for education.

In 2004, Jason established Luminescence of Nature Photography, dedicated to outdoor photography and photographic education. In addition to writing, he conducts field photography workshops and software training classes for photographers around the world.

Jason is the former co-host of the biweekly photography podcast, The Image Doctors, which aired on iTunes from 2005-2011.

Jason is the author of numerous digital books on photography, including:

For our LTPC meeting on April 15th, Doug & Laura Bennett will be back with us. They will be providing an Image Analysis and Critique Session now that photography shows season is upon us.

Whether you have participated in shows before or are considering doing so someday, you won’t want to miss what promises to be an enlightening evening. Doug & Laura will offer their analysis and suggestions that hopefully will help you select your most competitive entries, what improvements you could consider and suggestions on presentation (matting and framing).

Doug & Laura are convinced print competitions are loaded with learning opportunities particularly when critique is provided. In fact, Doug has been competing aggressively in PPA District competitions lately learning more and more on the keys to successful competition prints and he promises to be sharing all he has learned.

So even if you believe you are not quite ready to enter into a show, please come on out to this review session as they will strive to help you further down that path to better imagery and confidence to enter.

- Submit your images in JPEG format resized to 1000 pixels on the longest side (width or height) saved at quality level 8 to 10. Name your files in this format: your name-mage title.jpeg

GAME PLAN FOR THE REVIEW/CRITIQUE SESSION:

Depending on the number of images submitted, Doug & Laura will decide how many images can be reviewed in the time available. If they cannot do all three images each person submits, they will select images that best demonstrate the instructional objectives.

Dabbling with photography back in the ‘70s, Doug didn’t really begin to pursue photography until 2003 when he bought a disposable film camera to photograph his tulips. With a rekindling of his passion for photography, he began a pursuit to learn how to capture images of the landscape that is all around us.

His love for landscape photography can be traced back to his childhood and family sightseeing vacations touring the western U.S. and Canada by car. These early experiences were further fueled by his father’s “Arizona Highways” magazines, which always left him in awe with its beautiful scenic images, particularly those of Josef Muench.

Registration is $30 for 1/2 day seminar

May 18th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
10075 Commons Street
Lone Tree, CO

Weldon’s own words, “Wildlife photography is more than capturing an image. It is the opportunity to preserve, on film, the drama of a fleeting moment in the life of a particular species. When I am fortunate enough to capture one of those moments, I begin to realize that I am touching something greater than life itself. Many wildlife species are being threatened with extinction. If they are to survive, then we, as humans must learn to coexist with them. Photography and writing provide me with the platform I need to foster an appreciation for the uniqueness of my wild brothers and sisters which, hopefully will lead to their survival.”

Weldon Lee will be discussing his experiences in locating and tracking wild animals, what equipment he uses, plus how to create award winning images of wildlife.

Weldon Lee Biography

Weldon Lee travels around the globe to the world’s most exotic locations photo-graphing wildlife and capturing the essence of their personalities on film. He has a special way of communicating with animals and his images depict that relationship. His commitment to wildlife brings a fresh perspective to photography.

Weldon’s dramatic portrayals of wildlife in their natural surroundings provide viewers an intimate glimpse into their daily lives and is but one reason his images are popular among collectors. His work has been exhibited in the Denver Museum of Natural History and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. A University of Northern Iowa photography professor ranks Weldon among the top five wildlife photographers in North America.

Weldon’s early work focused on wildlife in the Rocky Mountains. His first book, Watchable Birds of the Rocky Mountains, initially published in 1992, contains over 50 photographs depicting a cross-section of the avian species found throughout the Rocky Mountains. Erwin and Peggy Bauer, friends and lifelong wildlife photographers, had this to say about his second book, published in 1996, “No region of North America offers so many opportunities for wildlife photographers as the Rocky Mountains. No one has ever described its wildlife and captured their natural beauty so thoroughly as Weldon Lee in A Guide to Photographing Rocky Mountain Wildlife.”

Weldon’s images have appeared in numerous magazines including Mature Outlook, National Wildlife, Backpacker, National Parks Magazine, Bird Watcher’s Digest, Outdoor Photographer, Petersen’s PHOTOgraphic, and Nature Photographer. In addition, his photos illustrate text and natural history books by Macmillan, Westcliffe, Falcon Press, and Roberts Rinehart to name just a few. Weldon’s work has been featured on all the major television networks including ABC, CBS, and NBC.

In January, 1995, Weldon was elected Chair of the Education Committee of the North American Nature Photography (NANPA) and served three years in that capacity. In addition to being a charter NANPA member, he is also a member of Rock Mountain Outdoor Writers & Photographers and in 2007 received that organization’s Selected Works Award for Excellence in Photography. The American Bald Eagle Foundation honored Weldon as the 2010 Photographer of the Year.

Weldon is actively involved in wildlife preservation and is in the process of launching an environmental organization whose focus is for the protection of wildlife around the world.

“Wildlife photography, to me, is so much more than capturing an image,” explains Weldon. “It’s about connecting with my wild brothers and sisters, looking into their eyes, touching their spirit, and listening to what they have to say. It’s about moments like these.

“Unless we act now, many wildlife species face extinction during this century,” proclaims Weldon. “Hopefully, others will feel the passion I have for our wild brothers and sisters and it will motivate them to become involved in wildlife preservation. Maybe, just maybe, my photography and writing will be the tipping point necessary to make that happen.”

Henry David Thoreau wrote, “In wildness is the preservation of the world.” Let us cherish and protect those wild places and the creatures that inhabit them.”

TOGETHER, WE can save our wild brothers and sisters.

The time to act is NOW!

Thought about getting into selling stock images, but don’t have a clue how?
Wondering what it takes to sell your images with stock agencies?

This presentation will give you a high level overview of what stock photography is and isn’t, trends in the industry, how getting involved in stock agencies can be a profitable way to sell your images and create a home-based photography business.

ABOUT TAKING STOCK IMAGES PHOTOGRAPHY
Taking Stock Images Photography will assist you in learning the in’s and out’s of selling your images on stock photography agencies. Not long ago, I made the leap into selling my images on stock photography agencies for profit. As I dove into this venture, I have learned, and continue to learn, that there is A LOT TO KNOW about selling images on stock agencies!

The Taking Stock Images plan is simple, I “hold your hand” and share with group members, the things I have learned along the way to building my portfolios and stock photography business. I continue to grow my portfolio, as I learn more and more about how to be successful in this business.

ABOUT TERI VIRBICKIS
Teri has over 25 years experience as a Marketing/Graphic Design professional who has worked her entire career helping large corporations and individuals create impact with their marketing campaigns. She is very passionate about helping people and companies learn how to generate buzz about their products and services, especially these days when budgets and economic resources are always under fire. When people ask her what she does, she will smile and add a little chuckle, then tell them she is an Impactologist! Naturally people ask “what the heck is an Impactologist”? Teri then will tell you, it’s simple, she practices IMPACTOLOGY: The Art of Creating Impact!

Her entire career, she has always been on the buying end of the stock photography world, until about 3 years ago. She has a vast knowledge and many years of experience, in the purchasing of images, for a wide range of usages in marketing campaigns, collateral and various other graphic design applications. She have come to know, that the purchase and usage of photographic images is not only big business, but also a very misunderstood business by most people. It wasn’t until she began to sell her own images, and learned the struggles photographers have when embarking on making a living with their photography. THERE IS SOOOOO MUCH TO KNOW, about the licensing/purchasing of photographic images. This is one of the reason why Taking Stock Images Photography was created, to assist photographers in learning about the in’s and out’s of the business of selling your images.

Photographing flowers close-up can be quite the challenge if not a mystery to some photographers. I will attempt to help de-mystify macro photography by covering proper equipment, exposure, depth-of-field, camera angles and backgrounds. You will be able to experiment with several different lighting set-ups including natural window light, studio flash and more.

8a-9a
A brief overview and demonstration of macro and close-up photography

9a-Noon
In the morning session I will have several lighting set-ups for you to photograph at. I’ll have different backgrounds for your pleasure as well. Macro photography can be quite rewarding once you get past the technical challenges and can just be in the creative state.

Noon-1p
Lunch on your own (we usually go to the same place and chat during lunch!) or if you prefer, pack a lunch.

1p-5p
The afternoon session you will work on your images with your computers with the tips and techniques that I use to create my style of fine art imagery. Some of the topics and techniques I plan to cover include:

Image pre-visualization
Composition
Adjustment layering and masking in Photoshop CS6
NIK Software
Topaz Labs
Texture overlays & Graphique Authority templates
Lots more as time permits

This workshop is limited to 20 attendees and is ONLY $99 for ALL day! You will also receive a certificate for a FREE 16×20 print from Nichols Photo Lab in Salt Lake City, UT. Nichols is one of my generous sponsors. I will also have plenty of Graphic Authority products on hand for sale. Another of my sponsors, Dury’s Photographic Supply will have some specials for us as well.

Workshop to be held at the Lone Tree Civic Center.

About Jeff Johnson

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Fine Art photography has been the very passion of my life. I’ve been fortunate to make a living doing what I genuinely love. From creating timeless portraits of children & families, to capturing the spirit & emotion of a wedding, this has truly been a rewarding
career. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.??? Spending time in the “creative process” of capturing a fine art image, whether it is with Mother Nature or Mankind can be a very spiritual experience. I’ve realized that my deepest desire is in the challenge of creating a
visual impression of a mere moment in time. More than just an image of pleasing composition, but one that inspires, one that will spark an emotion and stimulate the viewer’s senses.

Each of my images has it’s own story infused with my emotions and memories. Yet my hope is that each image will evoke an emotion, trigger a memory or inspire you in some way that creates or defines your own stories of my imagery. I trust that as you enjoy each
image they become a part of your soul as they have mine.??????

“Images From The Soul” is more than a conceptual description of my fine art photographic collections. Each image is an expression of what I was feeling or experiencing at that moment, deep within my soul. Please enjoy my imagery at Soul Images Gallery and JJ Portrait Art.
