It was every businessperson’s nightmare.

Arriving at Harv’s Metro Car Wash in midtown Wednesday afternoon were two dark-suited IRS agents demanding payment of delinquent taxes. “They were deadly serious, very aggressive, very condescending,” says Harv’s owner, Aaron Zeff.

The really odd part of this: The letter that was hand-delivered to Zeff’s on-site manager showed the amount of money owed to the feds was … 4 cents.

Inexplicably, penalties and taxes accruing on the debt – stemming from the 2006 tax year – were listed as $202.31, leaving Harv’s with an obligation of $202.35.

And people wander why this country is in so much debt. How much did it cost to deliver that?

AUSTIN, Tex. — After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday approved a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Fathers’ commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.

The vote was 10 to 5 along party lines, with all the Republicans on the board voting for it.

The board, whose members are elected, has influence beyond Texas because the state is one of the largest buyers of textbooks. In the digital age, however, that influence has diminished as technological advances have made it possible for publishers to tailor books to individual states.

Texas “conservatives” decided to rewrite history because they thought it was too liberal. Completely ignoring the fact that what is considered conservative and liberal are relative and always changing and what they consider liberal often isn’t.

“We are adding balance,” said Dr. Don McLeroy, the leader of the conservative faction on the board, after the vote. “History has already been skewed. Academia is skewed too far to the left.”

Or your just a pseudo-conservative that considers anything that is not conservative enough to be liberal and communist.

There are seven members of the conservative bloc on the board, but they are often joined by one of the other three Republicans on crucial votes. There were no historians, sociologists or economists consulted at the meetings, though some members of the conservative bloc held themselves out as experts on certain topics.

How surprising. Idiots who think they know something. No, thats wrong. I apologize to all the idiots out there.

“I reject the notion by the left of a constitutional separation of church and state,” said David Bradley, a conservative from Beaumont who works in real estate. “I have $1,000 for the charity of your choice if you can find it in the Constitution.”

That statement alone shows that he is too stupid to even take care of him self and that he needs to placed in the care and custody of some one else.
“Separation of church and state” is the phrase we use to describe the separation of religion and government. It is clear to any one who has done at least 5 minutes of research on the subject that government and religion were intended to be separate. Or as the Treaty of Tripoli says “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;”

So what did they add and take away? The took out Thomas Jefferson, they added the violent philosophy of the Black Panthers, the internment of Germans, Italians and Japanese as part of the Great Society legislation (in reality they had nothing to do with each other), defense of McCarthyism, replacing the word “capitalism” with “free-enterprise system” and more bull shit.

This will not only effect Texas, this will effect the whole country. Texas has the biggest school system in the country as result text book manufacturers use the Texas guidelines as the guidelines for the writing of all textbooks they make. As a result what happens in Texas effects every school in the country.

Humans didn’t evolve from apes, we are apes! Domain: Eukaryota, kingdom: Animilia, phylum: Chordata, class: Mammalia, order: Primates, family: Hominidae, genus: Homo and species: sapiens.

But thats not what he meant. This is basically a “if we evolved from monkeys why are there still monkeys” argument. Evolution is not a ladder! It is a tree! A branching tree. Populations for one reason or another split, the two new populations evolve, adapting to different conditions. Eventually the two populations are so genetically different that they if a female from one populations and a mail from the other find each other and mate they could not produce fertile offspring. The two populations have speciated; evolved into separate species. As they continue to evolve they will eventually not be able to produce offspring together at all and eventually not even able to mate.

Could it be that the majority of people in history who made big impacts where liberal? Maybe its the liberal mindset that lends it self to change while the conservative mind set lends it self to staying the same or going backwards? And maybe those who are less religious are more likely to be more liberal than conservative.
Note: I’m not saying either is any better than the other. That depends on the subject.
