Eben Pagan’s Guru Mastermind  Course

I have to be honest here, I have never taken Eben’s course before and have just singed up for his full blown 1 year program to put it to the test. And yes, I will be reporting on it through this blog throughout the year.

Although I haven’t taken Eben’s course before, I can tell you that Eben has been responsible for much of the income I make every week simply as a result of what I learned from his free videos in his previous launch which I wrote about in a previous post called  Eben Pagan’s Guru Mastermind Videos.

How so?

If you’ve been taking my free marketing course you know that one of my primary techniques is to create product specific bonuses for the affiliate products I market. Those product specific bonuses I talk about are essentially mini info products in their own right.

If the mini info product bonus you create is done right then it can often turn into a sellable product on it’s own. Here’s how I’ve been doing it …

You create a bonus mini eBook for a product you’re marketing as described in my course. The eBook, which can be as little as  15 pages,  is targeted to helping people get more out of the product you’re marketing. Some of the people arriving at your site already have the product, but since your bonus eBook looks so good they wish they had bought the product from you.

Next thing you know people are asking if they can simply buy it from you. So you slap a small $29 price tag on it and then expand it a little to maybe 30 pages. Now all of a sudden you’re not only selling the original affiliate product, but for existing owners you’re now selling them a mini product like an add-on.

If it picks up steam you continue to expand the mini info product and up the price until you have a full fledged info product ready for clickbank.

The beauty of this model is that you don’t have to go crazy developing an info product until you’ve first tested the waters with a simple 15 page mini bonus. Only after you begin making affiliate sales and people ask to buy the guide do you then put the effort into turning it into a full on info product … and your affiliate sales you get from giving it away as a bonus in the beginning will actually fund your efforts to create the full on product.

That’s how you bootstrap yourself into an info product of your own and start making crazy big money.

I have followed the exact model I just described many times now. I have recently repeated this model just in the past 3 months with a new product which now makes about $350/day via paypal sales. I expect it to triple or more once I move the product to clickbank, which I’m in the process of doing now.

Not being a big PPC guy I consider myself a newbie with Adwords compared to some of my colleagues so when I cover my costs and make a bit of money I’m usually pretty happy. I think of it as free list building.

Well I’ve decided to dive in and really learn Adwords for this new campaign I started a few weeks ago. Then a few days ago I came across the free Adwords Digger from the Kahuna guys. I’m a Traffic Kahuna member and consider it to be one of the best marketing expenses anyone can make so I knew their free Adwords Digger tool would be pretty high quality so I grabbed a copy.

Here’s the low down … if you use Adwords or are even considering it then you should grab this tool. In fact even if you don’t ever plan to use Adwords this tool could make you think twice after you watch the video on their site. It’s currently free and I think it may stay that way forever but who knows.

It’s a very simply tool that takes your keywords and the returns all the top websites with Adwords placements that will trigger based on your keywords, then it does an Alexa search and grabs the Alexa ranking for the site so you can see which sites have traffic and where to do Adwords placements.

The great thing about it is that it’s fast, free and can save you a bunch of money by helping you figure out where to get the most bang for your adwords buck.

It all began innocently back in May of 2007 when I decided to take the leap and move my blog from blogger.com my own hosted wordpress blog. Unfortunately the tools available to help with this migration simply didn’t work. After searching for solutions I discovered many people had the same problems and it was a generally known thing that migrating from blogger to wordpress just plain sucked. (note to self … just use wordpress from the start)

So anyway, the exporting and importing functionality wasn’t working for the post comments I just said to hell with it and I hired someone to manually cut and past the blog post comments over to the new blog for me. Of course I instructed my outsourcer to ensure that the urls that were entered for the user were also correctly copied over so the commenter would continue to get the backlink credit they deserved.

Well the job got done and the new blog was born and all was well in the world. I was happy. Things moved along nicely for a number of months.

Then about 8 weeks ago I decided to make a few changes to my blog and add support for gravitars, those little pictures you see beside people’s comments (get yours at www.gravitar.com). Cool I now had gravitars and I was on my way to building a better blog and community … until a buddy pointed out that my picture was showing up on a dozen or so different commenter’s names!

It turns out that way back when the outsourcer moved the comments over, although they moved the correct website urls, they didn’t think the emails mattered because they weren’t used for anything so they put my email as a default for all the email fields for the comments.

If you don’t know about gravitars the important thing here is that the gravitar pulls an image that you specified when you created your gravitar at gravitar.com based on your email address. This is how when you leave your email on other sites comments your image then shows up in the comments.

Well adding the gravitar feature immediately pulled my image for a whole pile of comments with different user names! I freaked out because it looked like I just populated my own comments and made up different names. What a great way to kill your credibility!

Anyway, it wasn’t clear to me at first what was going on until I noticed all the comments in question were posted before my big migration many months before. So after another couple hours of painstaking manual work to fix the problem all was resolved but I was embarrassed as hell.

The issues was brief, it got resolved, and maybe a handful of people might have caught it … or maybe not, but in the end my panic far exceeded the reality of the situation.

The moral of the story is that everyone makes mistakes and sometime they can look bad and sometimes they are really bad, but almost all the time it seems much worse than it really is.

So when you screw up just roll with it and move on. It’s probably not as bad as you think it is.

BTW, my squidoo lens, Learn Affiliate Marketing | How I Made $7,219 Online in My First 59 Days, was already ranking in the top 3 at the time for Learn Affiliate Marketing so I was actually trying to rank my blog.

Anyway, at the time of that blog post my google search showed 3,400,000 results for the keyword. But doing a single keyword search in google will not always reveal the true number of pages for a keyword. It’s important to check the keywords you’re considering multiple times throughout the week and at different times throughout the day. The numbers at different times can be vastly different and might falsely lead you to believe a particular keyword is more difficult to rank for than it really is.

Do a google search for the keyword learn affiliate marketing right now and then check what you see with what this video shows and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Obama along with many other celebrities have been reporting their twitter accounts were hacked sometime yesterday and today. Is it just a coincidence that for the past two days twitter has been warning us of a phishing scam going on through direct messaging via twitter?

Here’s the deal, in case you haven’t already got the memo …

There’s been a phishing scam floating around twitter where people are getting direct messages (DM) via twitter telling them something interesting with a link in it. When you click the link it takes you to a site that looks just like the login page for twitter.

Now the idea is that the perpetrators are hoping that the user makes the false assumption that they’ve timed out on twitter and need to log back in. What they may not notice is the url in the browser address bar is NOT twitter.com, but some other url.

The user unknowingly proceeds to login in to the fake account and in doing so has given the crooks their login information.

This is a classic phishing scam and has been happening on twitter for a couple days. Twitter has been warning us about it but it seems some people are not listening. Not only has there been a warning right on the twitter screen, but it’s been on their blog front and center.

Now, back to the Obama hack. Is it a hack implying the twitter system has a hole in it or was this simply a case of carelessness on the part of the person maintaining the Obama twitter account?

No one will likely know for sure, but coincidence of the twitter phishing scam and all these celebrities accounts being “hacked” certainly sounds phishy to me!

I say we call them what they are, phishing victims, and get on with it.

How to NOT Be a Phishing Victim

The reason phishing works so well is because the website doing the phishing looks exactly like the real website. If you’re not accustom to looking at the url in your browser before logging into a site then you’re likely to become a victim someday.

One of the best ways to never have to worry about this again is to use a password manager that not only encrypts your passwords but also handles logging into websites for you.

For instance, the most widely used password manager is probably Roboform. Roboform thwarts phishing by only logging into websites after it’s verified the url is the correct one for the login you are trying to use.

Here’s another major plus to using a password manager … you’re more likely to use different passwords for different sites. This is huge. Thinks about it … how many different passwords do you have?

Most people use one of maybe 5 or 6 passwords and simply repeat them because they’re to much hassle to remember. Problem is, if you get compromised you’d better start changing your accounts all over the web because hackers and phishers know that once they have your username and password it’s probably good at dozens of sites around the web. What a pain in the a**.

Since Roboform manages all this password crap for you you’re free to use different passwords without having to remember them all and in the end you’ll be much safer for it.

Not only is Roboform a faster way to surf, but a much safer way to surf as well.

As long as people continue not taking security seriously they will continue to be victims.
