Easy Fingerboard tricks

Basic skill skateboarding

1. Start on a smooth surface with traction.
2. Place one finger at the head of the board and another finger on the kick-tail. Apply pressure on the board with your finger and skate as you would on foot.
3. Practice to control steering the board in different directions by applying pressure on various spots on the board with your finger.

Pop Shuvit

Place forefinger on nose and middle finger on tail. push down on the tail while pushing tail out and forefinger pushing up spinning board 180. Stay commitment and land trick. Try clearing other obstacles and gaps for more changes.

Wal The Dog

With one finger on tail and one on nose, pivot board 180 and switch finger placement. Repeat as many times as desired. Practice until you achieve a smooth and fast move to build on variation later.

The ollie

Slap down tail using middle finger while curling forefinger slightly until board is level and at desired hight. Center forefinger and middle finger over trucks and land. Sticky finger work well also.

Vert

Find a nice and smooth vertical surface (cupboards, sie of desk) and move vingeroar up and down. Try and pull rock in rolds or fake airs. Get some seriuous ari time without braking your neck.

Why Sliding Gloves

When you start longboarding, you might not think of sliding gloves right away, but when you are ready for tricks, sliding, downhiling and freeriding, you want to protect your hands.
You probably want gloves that are comfortable with some stretch and that are lightweight. While lightweight sliding gloves are comfortable, make sure that the gloves are durable enough for the style of riding you do. If you are an aggressive downhill rider, you might want to look for gloves that are thicker, heavier and made from leather. If you are a freeride person or not an aggressive downhill rider, you are fine with lightweight gloves.

Pucks

Every pair of slide gloves must have palm pucks. Many will have removable palm pucks that attach to the gloves with Velcro. Your palm pucks protect your hands, and they will take the most abuse. The palm pucks you use must be of the highest quality. Pucks that are made of a durable plastic. This gives you a high level of protection. If you do not slide or you feel you do not need the pucks, you can take them off and only wear the gloves. This still gives you protection.

Fingers

Sliding gloves fingers are a little bit different than regular gloves. They should protect your fingers while sliding. Some gloves even have finger pucks. They come in two different styles: lobster and four fingers. Finger pucks have less grip if you need to grab your board through turns. Other sliding gloves are made of leather or Kevlar. Kevlar is a heat-resistant and strong synthetic fiber. Leather and kevlar gloves have increased durability and gives you more protection, but will also be warmer in the summer.

There are also sliding gloves without fingers. These gives you less protection. Fingerless gloves only cover the palm, but will keep your hands cool in warm weather. It all depends on the style of riding which one you prefer and need.

How To Use Sliding Gloves

When sliding, keep your palm pucks towards the heel of your palm, and keep your fingers up. This will allow you to apply pressure toward the bottom of the puck, and it will prevent you from jamming your fingers.

Of course, nobody expects to crash, but it’s a risk we take with longboarding. Wear slide gloves when sliding or going downhill to protect your hands and always wear a helmet! Check out our new sliding gloves with colorful designs!

At some point you need to replace your griptape as it is getting old and beat up. A great alternative is Skateboard and longboard deck spray-on clear grip tape from Monster Paint It is the easiest way to apply to your favorite longboard or skateboard. It comes in an aerosol can and it is clear griptape. The only color for spray on the market. You don’t have to do anything more than just spray it on.

This aerosol can has a clear griptape finish and you can do about 5 or 6 40″ longboards with 2 coats. You can even add graphics to the top of your board to make it even more interesting and show off and then spray on a coat, wait 5 minutes and spray another coat. Or just leave blank. It is up to you.

It provides a strong grip that longboarders and skateboarders need without obscuring your top artwork. It looks best with bamboo boards but of course, you can spray any board you want.

A few questions you might want to ask yourself:

• What type of surfaces do I want to skate on (e.g. smooth, rough)
• What type of skating do I want to do (e.g. sliding, cruising)

If you can answer these 2 questions, you are half way

Wheel size

The first decision you need to make when choosing longboard wheels is the size you want. Do you have a small longboard or a longer version? Most longboard wheels are between 64mm-80mm in diameter. 70mm is the most common size. Larger wheels accelerate slower with a higher top speed and a longboard will easily roll over cracks, debris and rough roads. Smaller wheels accelerate faster but have a slower top speed, but will fit on more setups.

If you like to skate on different kinds of terrain and like rough ground or rocky asphalt, choose bigger wheels. This will give you a more comfortable ride. These longboard wheels will go easily and absorb more over rocks, pebbles, dirt and bumpy roads. 70mm to 76mm wheels would be perfect for those conditions. If you like smoother surfaces, like asphalt and sidewalks, 65mm to 70mm wheels would be better. The most popular size on a 36” or 40” longboard are the 70mm wheels. If you have a small longboard, mini cruisers for example, 65mm works best.

Durometer

All longboard wheels have a durometer. This means the hardness or softness used to measure the wheel urethane. Which one do you need to choose? Are you going to be sliding or cruising? If you like to slide you would need a harder wheel such as the 83a or 85a durometer wheels. If you are going to cruise around the streets you would need smooth gel soft cruising wheels, such as wheels with a durometer of 78a.

Wheel Shape

The shape of the longboard wheel is just as important as the size and durometer. Do you want square lipped wheels or round lipped wheels?

Square lipped wheels have more grip. They are preferred for downhill skating as it allows more grips to fast corners. Square lipped wheels are also a good option for cruising and carving. They allow you to carve deeper and make tighter corners with ease.

Round lipped wheels are for sliding and freeriding. This will allow wheels to break traction more easily and offer smoother transitions into slides. They are also great options for cruisers because they are usually lighter and allow you to power slide more easily when you want to.

So, if you want to cruise on smooth asphalt you can best choose 70mm wheels with a durometer of 78a. If you want to slide on rough terrain you can best choose large wheels with a 80a – 85a durometer. Most people will go with a happy medium, which is 78a and 80a since this is for nearly all types of longboarding for slide, grip and speed.

Fighting Slip

Skateboards arose from surfing in the 1960s. Surfers used different methods to keep their feet from slipping on their boards. Wax and spray adhesive was a common choice, and it remains popular in surfing to this day. Both of these products prevents surfers’ feet from slipping on their boards, but they have their drawbacks for skateboarding.

First, wax and adhesives are messy. Wax melts in high temperatures, which is a problem for skateboarders on concrete. Making a deck sticky with an adhesive means tracking dirt and grime from the road onto the riding surface, which eventually leads back to slipping.

Second, wax and adhesives both wear away over time. This means constantly having to reapply the product to the board. You also have to eventually, clean everything off as you cannot keep re-applying it.

The Revolution

It wasn’t a huge problem back then, but after the year 1972 it did become a problem with the introduction of the first urethane wheels. In 1974 the precision bearings where introduced, and in 1975 the purpose-built skateboard trucks. Suddenly riders were able to achieve and sustain much faster speeds. Turns became sharper and quicker, new tricks suddenly became possible, and the need for grip increased exponentially.

The Griptape Solution

There is no record of who the first person was who thought of applying sandpaper to a skateboard deck. If you scan over the pictures of people riding boards before the mid 1970s and those in museums today, you’ll see that the occasional board had griptape. Usually, it would be applied in an offhand way, just strips of sandpaper stuck to the deck, likely with adhesive spray.

It was also around this time that plastic skateboards made their appearance. These surfaces often had a rough texture or a waffle pattern applied to supply grip. From here a fully textured surface idea of griptape was a logical leap. Soon, manufacturers sprang up to fill the new niche.

The Evolution of Backing

The grit in sandpaper is usually silicon carbide, and the same is true for skateboard grip tape. The early forms of grip tape had the grit applied to a paper backing, which was a problem when the paper got wet.

The solution came in the form of plastic backing, which made the griptape waterproof. Modern griptape is still made the same way. The plastic backing does not deteriorate, so the grip on a modern skateboard will long outlast the deck itself.

Griptape art

People have been experimenting and cutting griptape into strips and shapes and fitting them onto their boards. Applying griptape makes the perfect opportunity to express yourself and to make your board stand out. Skaters took griptape art to extremes.

Then came the colored grip tape (80s). Fluorescent colors were a popular item. Skaters would mix and match the colors into creative patterns. Most skate shops sold those brightly colored griptapes from rolls by the foot. Die-cut griptape also hit the market in the 80s, with shapes precut into each sheet roll.

Moving Toward Today

Even though the colored grip tape was a hit in the 80s, simple black grip tape still was the popular choice as it looks classy and also shows less dirt.

Griptape today is essentially the same product that it was in the early days, and longboarders and skateboarders keep expressing themselves in different ways. Different colors and now different designs, from pineapple griptape to camouflage griptape are increasingly becoming popular again. Writing, drawing or stenciling on griptape is another method that became popular. In the modern era, skateboarders can be comfortable doing whatever they desire when they apply their griptape.

Griptape varies, so be wary when choosing. Too fine of a grit may allow slipping, while too rough of a grit will tear up your shoes faster. You can also choose to spray it on yourself. Check out the Monster Paint Clear Spray On Griptape.
