"Like China, we will block all such websites" is what Justice Suresh Kait said while asking counsel for Facebook and Google India to develop a mechanism to remove "offensive" content from their websites.

Now, what does it mean? Mr. Kapil Sibal has been claiming that the demand for removing and pre-screening is for the 'pornographic depictions of gods and goddesses'. But is it? According to this , the 'unacceptable' things for Sibal are the Facebook Pages, Images, Blogs and comments that are bad for the image of Sonia Gandhi. His initial request was to remove these kind of content. When this demand of Sibal got its space in the media, he changed the subject to 'depictions of gods and goddesses', just to make it appealing for the public.

Government knows that there is huge number of Indian population which uses the Internet, posts views and reads views. For govt, the days are over when purchasing the mouth of media houses for self appreciation and news filtering, ensured that people get to know only the good-side of govt. Through the Internet people are getting to know all sort of things. On the open platform they are saying, reading all available information about the members of govt, movements against govt are burning throught web. Information is no more hidden these days. Plus, These web-based companies don't listen to the govt, they make it free for every one to speak their mind - openly. The govt knows that her neighbor has been doing censorship of content since years, which has helped him to hold the thoughts of people.

Govt has got a way, the Internet censorship, which will help her reduce the display of views against her. No more negative thoughts about the government.

DeaDBeeF is one of the best applications that I have discovered for linux. It is lightweight yet powerful, it has very neat and simple UI, just like how an ideal audio player should be.

Changed home page of Google India

Just now Google has changed the look of Google India home page ( http://google.co.in )

(the new home page (above) vs the old home page )

The colors of logo are now brighter , size of search box has been increased, buttons of "google search" and "i am feeling lucky" have been modified. The side menu is now by-default active, and menu items in side menu are now having icons along them.

Over all its looking great ;)

Meet new smarter flickr search

Today flickr rolled out its new search interface, which is much better then the older one.By default the new interface is having 'view' setting as 'small' which has reduced page length than the older one as the information about photo is now shown only on pressing 'More Information' 'i' button on the image or by switching to 'Detail' view.

Changing the view to small,medium,detail or slideshow is now more easy as the 'view' menu is now shown on the top of results as in a typical image search engine. A side panel has been added to the page which shows information and links about groups, photographers and tag clusters. Advanced search criteria are now shown before search results.

In its official blog flickr also told that it will bring more advanced features into the page.

What to do If your contacts receive spams from your Gmail ID?

Recently one of my friend told me that his gmail ID was sending spam to all his contacts.After doing some research I reached to the conclusion that he was a victim of spoofing i.e.. those spams were faking the address to hide the real origin of the mail.

Here are the steps to follow if your contacts start pinching you for sending them spams :

Check whether the copy of mails received by your contacts is there in your sent item folder or not,if not then your gmail "account" might has not been used for sending mails and you may be a victim of spoofing.

Check the Recent Activity report (which is given at the bottom ,third last line, of the gmail window ) click details and point out unfamiliar IPs.

This all might be a case of phishing you may have typed your password and email id on a phishing web site OR,

might have given access to your contact list to some website by telling your password and ID

Scan your computer for malware by Lavasoft Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php OR- Spybot Search and Destroy: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html (as suggested by google) because the bot might be in your own PC.

Change your password. Choose a strong password which is hard to be guessed ,use a password strength checker like this .

You may also report your problem to gmail's help forum .

Has Twitter stopped notification via SMS in India?

(Notice in the encircled area "India" has been removed from the names of country where the service is available)

Are you also having problem in receiving twitter updates via SMS in India Or getting reply as "This service is not enabled yet" when you try to verify your phone on twitter or send tweets via SMS in India? May be this page is the answer for why.

A week after sending verification code to 5566511 when i clicked twitter.com/devices it showed me the same old message "Verify your number" , and in the right hand side i saw "India" had been removed from the names of country where the service is available (see picture).

I guess no official announcement about this has been made yet.

On Thursday opera 9.5(Codename: Kestrel) became available for download .It has Integrated theme previews, an improved address bar search tool,fraud prevention from Haute Secure, antiphishing protection from Netcraft and much more.It also includes support for Extended Validation Secure Sockets Layer (EV SSL).

This release has eurotechno look .The new QuickFind address bar feature searches the web history while you type in it,say, you forget the web address of the web site you want to visit ...now you just type some words about the website in the address bar and new QuickFind address finds you the web address. This release better synchronizes with its mobile cousin, and a Speed Dial feature for visually bookmarking nine of your favorite sites.

Though in my test this release is slower than previous 9.27 release I still give 5/5 stars to Opera 9.5.

Twitter gets another problem

About 7 hours ago from Twitter status we get following information.

We just lost a database about 5 minutes ago and this has severely impacted the site.

We’re working on recovering from this now.

It means you will not be able to see your past tweets .....bad news..
About a few days ago ,in twitter, one more database crash took place.In the month of may @jack reported that twitters main database db006 crashes.
Let's see how much time will twitter take to recover from this database lose.

Google's new favicon

Google updates its favicon ..favicon is the icon displayed at browser's URL bar, next to the site's name in lists of bookmarks, and next to the page's title in a tabbed document interface.
The first time when I saw the new favicon at my browser's link bar(as i have added google news to it), I thought something is wrong with my browser's cache,but after some time I realized that Google's favicon has been really changed ........ Google's new favicon is like this 'g', it is hosted at http://66.102.9.104/favicon.ico it is 16x16 pixels image.
The small g when rotated by right angle becomes similar to ∞ (infinity) remember googol (10¹⁰⁰) .

Few days ago I planned to switch to Leopard from my XP ........ but I thought what if i could give my XP a leopard look ...... ...here my search started I spent about 3-4 hours searching for themes and other stuff to transform my PC's desktop.

How To Install :
Well if you have StyleXP #trial# just add the visual style to it. OR grab a copy of "Ux Theme Mulipatcher" ,and install it. Now, you may double click your Visual Style theme to install it onto your system.
