Having a great interest in any dry erase products that become available on the market, I thought I would share my findings on Crayola’s new Dry Erase Crayons and their use for gaming. You get eight colors. Black, Blue, Red, Green, Brown, Purple, Yellow, Orange. They are the size of jumbo crayons, and have the familiar paper wrapping on each stick. The set comes with a bag/mitt for storage and erasing. The texture of the crayon is a bit softer than traditional crayons, and has a very nice feel when marking. There is a good balance of smoothness and resistance that I find more comforting than a marker. The marks are fairly resistant to accidental erasing, which is a boon, but require a little more effort to remove from your dry erase surface. This turns out to work in your favor as well. The map from your last game can easily be saved for the next, or drawing your maps out in advance becomes super easy as stacking does not erase your work. The map from your last game can easily be saved for the next, or drawing your maps out in advance becomes super easy as stacking does not erase your work.

The marks never dry out, so leaving them on the board is no problem. They are just as easy to erase after a week than they are after an hour.

I have not experienced any ghosting or staining.

No drying and no caps means you get to use every last bit of the crayon. No waste.

Marking over a mark does not erase the older mark like markers tend to do.
This means that you can fill in areas with solid color and the colors can even be mixed some for highlighting and shading if you really want to get into details.

You can quickly make thin and think lines as needed, and the crayon may be broken into pieces for extra thick lines and filling in large areas quickly.

I have to say that these things are AMAZING for gaming if you use a dry erase board, and answers almost all of the annoying problems of drawing with a dry erase marker.

I haven’t used my markers once in the last month since acquiring a set of these.

Want to take your time and draw out a masterpiece for that final climatic encounter? No problem! And you don’t have to waste valuable game time to do it. Just draw out the scene in vivid detail ahead of time and then stack the tiles together using small pieces of non slip drawer liner material available for cheap at any grocery store. The rubbery material will provide space between boards to protect your work of art, and since it is non slip, it keeps the stack from sliding around and erasing your masterpiece.

This same technique can also be used to create fog of war effects since only the boards that the players are exposed to need be placed on the table.

Did you know that you can use your Battlegraph Boards to create a scrolling battle map that keeps the action centered on the table? You can, and it will help keep the map from taking over the table during the game. This is how you do it. Start with as many boards you would like to track your battles. I use 9, giving me a 3×3 configuration. Map put your dungeon or encounter scene. (You can do this ahead of time, but we will cover that next month.) As the adventure moves to the edge of the map, you pull boards from the explored portion and move them forward. Erase the old details and keep mapping! As you continue, you will have to slide the entire map to stay centered on the table. You can do this with Battlegraph Boards because they are locked together when you slide, yet still separate easily when you lift them. You never have to run out of map again!

I would like to thank everyone for the constant stream of emails asking that these be made available again. It was your encouragement that kept this old GM’s dream alive. The gaming community has some of the greatest people in it, and it has been my pleasure meeting you.

We, the Scribes of Longtooth, are very glad that you are giving us a chance to prove our worthiness. This is an exciting time for us! With the addition of this publication, we were granted a stay of xecution, and may yet live to see another xmas. Master Longtooth is a tough ogre to work for, but we have faith that you will be back and keep us from an unfavorable, but savory end in the cauldron. Since you are new around here, let me give a brief tour of the studio.
This room here is where the scribes are hard at work divining the content for the next issue. If you haven’t noticed, the scribes all have but a single eye. The other was taken and sent to the next world so that we may have a clearer view of the future. Yes, that’s how we do it. How else did you think it was done, blind hags? Ha, get it, BLIND HAGS? Sorry, it’s a running joke around here.
Through that door is the master’s lair. Master Longtooth is in a particularly grumpy mood today so we will skip that portion of the tour. That door leads to the kitchen, where Mrs. Longtooth keeps the pot hot and a steady flow of food to the master. We will skip that portion of the tour as well, lest you end up staying for dinner. That would be bad.

Enough about us, what you are here to learn is what new scribery we have prepared for you. We, the One Eyed Scribes, are nervously happy to bring you Xpedition Xtras!

Xpedition Xtras has xactly the right content for your next adventure path. With an assortment of perfectly flavored and balanced xtras just begging to be included into your game, you will want to use them all. Each issue is available just when you need it offering new and xciting beasts, encounters, spells, gear, NPCs, handouts, traits and more, that will fit seamlessly into the game you are about to play. No time wasted searching your archives for content that fits and no headaches from adjusting content to match the flavor of your campaign. It has all been done for you! We scribes value your time as a game master, and we want your game to be memorable and xciting.

There you have it! It’s not a bad gig. The food sucks, and the conditions are not xactly up to regulatory standards, but we enjoy reaching into the future to bring you knowledge of fantastic creatures and powerful shinies that you are likely to find on your path.
You really should be moving on now. Come again soon, we will try and sneak out a few FREE morsels of clairvoyant goodness so you can get a early heads up on your next path. Remember, every copy that gets written, is another few minutes that we don’t fear the cauldron. So save a scribe, and tell your friends!
