Robert De Niro and Mark Ruffalo To Attend "Drain the Swamp" Event

On February 24th, Robert De Niro, Mark Ruffalo, Stacey Abrams, and Jim Acosta will join speakers such as Rep. Jason Crow and NYT bestselling author Ruth Ben-Ghiat at the “Drain the Swamp” event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Organized by DEFIANCE.org, the Portland Frog Brigade, and COURIER, the event will take place at the same time as the State of the Union Address. The organizers promise a night that will be “bold” and “unfiltered” in a venue that is usually known for polite translation of political messaging.

The evening will feature live counter addresses and truthful explanations from opposition figures, current & former elected officials, celebrities, and other leaders, clarifying how Trump’s historic abuses of power have put American democracy at risk. They will also offer ways to unite to preserve Americans’ constitutional rights. The promise of the evening is, “We will laugh. We will defy. We will be impossible to ignore.”

Some may recognize Rep. Jason Crow as the man who publicly warned U.S. troops to refuse “illegal orders”. Author Ruth Ben-Ghiat is a leading scholar on authoritarian movements. They will be joined by Joanne Carducci and Lisandra Vazquez, new media celebrities who are shining the light on U.S. politics.

Guests will also include outspoken journalists Mehdi Hasan, Brian Karem, Charlie Sykes, Wajahat Ali; legal experts such as Joyce Vance, Glenn Kirschner, and Norm Eisen; as well as political figures Ron Wyden, Steve Bullock, Seth Moulton, Dan Goldman, and Joe Walsh. Stars Attend MPTF 19th Annual Evening Before Benefit

Television’s biggest night took place in Century City, CA on September 13th, when Emmy Awards nominees and presenters, along with some of the most powerful entertainment industry influencers, joined together for MPTF's 19th annual “Evening Before” benefit.

Co-Chaired by Uzo Aduba, Colin Farrell, Kathryn Hahn & Ethan Sandler, and Adam Scott & Naomi Scott, the annual event raised over $2 million.

MPTF has stepped up during a very challenging past few years to support the entertainment community, and I’m proud to be a part of a fundraiser that will help to sustain that vital support,” said co-chair Adam Scott.

Funds raised will help MPTF continue to provide essential support and services to working and retired entertainment industry members in need. Crew members and their families who survive in a job-by-job economy can struggle with basic needs like rent, utilities, medical bills, and groceries even in the best of times, which is where MPTF’s emergency financial services and dedicated social services team are vital to provide a lifeline to those who need it. The past five years have been especially challenging from the pandemic to the work stoppage to wildfire relief, production issues, and personal crises, and MPTF is here to help with a safety net of services.

Tony and Obie award-winning playwright V, formerly Eve Ensler, has created THIS IS CRAZY!, a bold, funny, and moving new play to benefit The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Featuring an extraordinary cast including Jane Fonda, Marisa Tomei, Mark Ruffalo, Sanaa Lathan, Rosanna Arquette, Lois Smith, Rachel Hilson, Olivia Oguma, Colette McDermott, Derrick Delgado, Luke Ferrari, Doireann Mac Mahon, Clarence Maclin, and Mohammad Saleem, the production, directed by V, brings together the acclaimed artists for a series of monologues, each offering a raw, personal perspective on mental illness and the emotional and social complexity of the human experience.

To kick off National Mental Illness Awareness Week, the one-night-only performance will take place in New York City’s Symphony Space on October 6, 2025, with a second show planned for Los Angeles in 2026. One hundred percent of the proceeds from these performances will benefit NAMI.

City of Hope Orange County, part of one of the largest and most advanced cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, announced today that Diana Ross will perform at its 2025 Promises of Hope gala.

The annual gala is a celebration of the philanthropic support that powers innovation in cancer research and treatment. The Oct. 11 gala will be held on City of Hope Orange County’s academic cancer campus in Irvine, set against the backdrop of Orange County’s only specialty cancer hospital.

Opening later this year, the specialty cancer hospital will deliver breakthrough acute care, trailblazing research, advanced surgical oncology, immediate care for outpatients, and rehabilitative, integrative and spiritual care resources that only a nationally recognized cancer research and treatment organization can provide.

The evening will bring together more than 500 distinguished business and community leaders, grateful patients and their families and City of Hope supporters to recognize the seismic shift in cancer care now underway in Orange County. The gala will culminate in a performance by former Supremes front-woman Diana Ross, whose legacy of empowerment and artistic excellence echoes the spirit of the evening.

The gala is co-chaired by philanthropist and longtime City of Hope supporter Stephanie Argyros; Robert Stone, Chief Executive Officer, Helen and Morgan Chu Chief Executive Officer Distinguished Chair; and Annette Walker, president of City of Hope Orange County, Ronald and Sandi Simon Presidential Chair.

That gift helped speed up groundbreaking treatments directly to a community with growing needs.

Acclaimed actor Josh Hutcherson is joining forces with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, a global leader in science-led nutrition and long-time champion of animal welfare, for Hill’s eighth consecutive year of sponsoring NBCUniversal Local’s Clear The Shelters campaign. The urgency has never been clearer: U.S. animal shelters are in crisis. According to Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s 2025 State of Shelter Pet Adoption Report, while nearly two-thirds of Americans would consider adopting their next pet from a shelter and over half are aware of fostering programs, 5.8 million cats and dogs entered shelters last year according to Shelter Animals Count. 2025 Country Music Hall of Fame electee Kenny Chesney is set to make his fourth Farm Aid appearance at this year’s annual music and food festival at Huntington Bank Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Wynonna Judd and Steve Earle have also joined the all-star lineup, the organization revealed today.

Nicholas Hoult, actor and longtime supporter of Save the Children, has surprised children at a play project in London as he becomes the charity’s newest celebrity ambassador, just a day after attending a fan event for his latest film, Superman.

Visiting Rich Mix in East London, Hoult – who stars as Lex Luthor in the film –joined an after-school club to surprise children aged 7 to 11 from the local area as they took part in a film and multimedia workshop on what it means to be a superhero. In addition to participating in the workshop, which saw the children script, film and act out their very own sketches of villains and superheroes, Hoult also took part in a Q&A session with the students.

The children had a chance to enjoy a sneak peek of the new Superman film moments before Hoult arrived. They immediately asked for ’Lex’s’ autograph before urging him to facetime his co-star ‘Superman’. After discussing all aspects of the film’s production and the wonders of CGI, the budding film-makers asked Hoult about his childhood and what had inspired him to become an actor.

Speaking about his visit, Hoult said: “It’s been a real privilege to meet the children here at Rich Mix on my first day as an official ambassador for Save the Children. Seeing the joy that they got from taking part in the workshop reminded me how much I loved being involved in film from a young age. Taking place July 16, 2025, at Gotham Hall in New York City, the black-tie affair will be hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson, featuring performances by Muni Long and entertainment by DJ D-Nice. At just 12 years old, Mila received a grant through the Black Girl Joy Challenge, a collaboration between the Pete & Thomas Foundation and Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium, and used the funding to launch her own non-profit organization, MH Boxes, in January 2024.

MH Boxes provides mental health care packages filled with journals, self-care essentials, affirmations, and wellness tools specifically designed for Black girls. Mila’s own journey with mental health as a biracial Black girl inspired her to create this supportive community-led initiative that addresses the critical gap in mental health resources for Black girls, who are often underrepresented in mental health conversations.

“Mila exemplifies why we invest in Black girls’ dreams,” said Brown. “When we provide resources and believe in their visions, we witness the creation of solutions that address real community needs with innovation and heart, led by the very people who understand those needs most deeply.”

Now 13, she continues to expand MH Boxes’ reach, working to ensure that mental health support is diverse, inclusive, and accessible to all Black girls. Her work demonstrates how the #BlackGirlJoyChallenge can and has inspired real solutions and empowered young voices to drive meaningful change in their communities.

Joely Richardson Visits Community Allotment Project

Actress and Save the Children Ambassador Joely Richardson recently visited a community allotment project, funded by the charity, which is improving children’s mental wellbeing and development.

The project, which is supported by Save the Children’s long-standing partner Bvlgari, is run by a local community group in Margate. Through growing food, joining in play-based activities and spending time in nature, these vital sessions are supporting children’s early learning and even encouraging wildlife in the local area.

As a keen gardener Joely is passionate about connecting with the natural world. The actress, whose upcoming roles include Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale and the second series of The Gentleman, was extremely heartened to see the positive impact the project is having on the children and families who attend.

“Getting your hands muddy and being in the fresh air is so important” Joely said. “This incredible growing group in Margate is feeding children’s curiosity, supporting their mental wellbeing and improving their early learning – all whilst being in the great outdoors.”

“It’s clear to see that the children here enjoy the feeling of exploring their surroundings and the reward from nurturing new seedlings and seeing them grow. Their parents have noticed such a difference in the children and have also hugely benefited from the opportunity to grow plants and food. It’s an extraordinary project where everyone can learn and be nourished.”

Margate is one of the most socially deprived areas in the South-East of England. According to the latest child poverty statistics which were released on 2nd June, there are 9,862 children living in poverty in the council district of Thanet, which is 34.5% of children in the area. This represents the third highest level of child poverty in the South-East region and is above the national average of 31%.

Child poverty in the UK has reached a devastating new high of 4.5million, with 1 in 3 children living in poverty. This is a record no one should ever want, and no child should have to pay the price.

One of the parents Joely met was Matt with his daughter Daisy. Matt credits the stay and play group at the allotment as one of the catalysts for why he now enjoys a large community of dad friends who care for their kids in the local area.

He said: “Projects like this, that get children outside of the house, are really important in these sorts of communities. They help provide a great start in any child’s life. People from all different communities come to this group and it’s really important for those who don’t have outdoor space for their children. It has increased Daisy’s interest in outdoor education, and we have also noticed a change in her eating habits. A couple of weeks ago they made little salad baskets and when we got home Daisy wanted salad in her sandwiches. That was a big milestone.”

Hannah, who has been leading the allotment project since it began, added: “We’ve been running the project for three years thanks to Save the Children funding. Children come and eat fresh produce straight from the allotment and parents can decompress in the fresh air. We have a lot of social housing round here, small flats and shared occupancy, which means children don’t often have outside space they can enjoy. This has a huge impact on their wellbeing, their mental health and their understanding of the world around them. We support parents who are on the fringe of society, or who are lonely or struggling in life, and provide them with a safe environment where they feel they can be listened to.”

In the UK, Save the Children’s long-standing partnership with Bvlgari is supporting families living in poverty. The partnership helps to drive long-lasting positive changes for children in Margate and Manchester and is funded by sales of an exclusive Bvlgari jewellery collection, which includes a ring, pendant, bracelet and 3 necklaces.

Jennifer Garner, Becs Gentry Go the Extra Mile to Address Global Childhood Hunger

Actress and Save the Children Trustee Jennifer Garner has gone the extra mile for kids – 67 to be exact – in support of Save the Children’s efforts to bring life-saving malnutrition treatment to children who urgently need it now.

Through the #67Strong4Kids campaign, she ran a mile per day for 67 straight days – a fundraising challenge to raise awareness for the $67 it costs to provide a full, six-week course of therapeutic food that can save the life of a severely malnourished child – and elite runner Becs Gentry has joined her along the way.

The challenge, initiated by Garner on her birthday in April, culminated in a running event sponsored by Brooks Running in Santa Monica on June 22, where hundreds of people joined Garner and Gentry – in-person and virtually – for their final mile, while running against one of the top threats to child survival around the world.

Globally, one in five deaths among children under age five is associated with severe acute malnutrition, which can cause permanent damage to kids’ physical and cognitive development and make them more susceptible to illness. Garner is encouraging others to continue the #67Strong4Kids campaign to help ensure all children have a chance to survive and thrive.

“With climate disruptions, conflict, and inequality, more children than ever are suffering from the effects of severe malnutrition, a condition that is preventable and treatable. Our 67 runs may be behind us, but the race for kids’ futures is ongoing,” said Garner. “Together, we can help. For only $67, a child can receive a six-week course of RUTF (ready to use therapeutic food), and along with it, a chance at a healthier future. As of June 22, the #67Strong4Kids campaign has raised $500,000 to support severely malnourished kids around the world.

Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025 Raises Over £15 Million

Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025, broadcast live and exclusively on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player last week from Old Trafford, Manchester, has raised £15,280,163 for UNICEF's vital work helping children grow up safe, healthy and able to play.

This year, with thanks to the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, every donation made up to £5 million was doubled. Thanks to the generous UK public, this year’s fundraising amount sees the current total reach over £121million raised since 2006 – when UNICEF UK Ambassador Robbie Williams founded the concept.

The hotly anticipated match took place at the sold-out Old Trafford football stadium in Manchester to an audience of over 70,000 people. The match ended 5-4 to World XI FC, stealing the win back and keeping the overall lead with 8-6 wins since the inaugural 2006 match.

Kicking off the game, Sam Thompson officially completed his ‘Match Ball Mission’, which saw the ball travel over 270 miles by foot and by bike from Stamford Bridge last week and arrive safely at Old Trafford ready for the match today. During the show, the final total raised from Sam’s challenge was announced, at £2,075,564.46.

During half time, actor and Soccer Aid supporter Daniel Mays addressed the stadium crowd and viewers at home with a special speech, galvanising donations to UNICEF. Followed by an emotional and show stopping performance by Dermot Kennedy singing his hit song ‘Better Days’, supported with backing vocals from Hallé Children’s Choir.

It was another enthralling contest between England and the Soccer Aid World XI FC, as Lioness Jill Scott captained once again, leading the way for Team England, whilst Nemanja Vidic skippered for the Soccer Aid World XI FC for the first time.

This year, Tyson Fury made his Soccer Aid for UNICEF debut as England co-manager alongside Wayne Rooney and UNICEF UK Ambassador Robbie Williams, with Tom Hiddleston, Harry Redknapp, Vicky McClure and David James making up the supporting coaching team. They were up against the Soccer Aid World XI FC management team with Peter Schmeichel, UNICEF UK Ambassador Martin Compston, Emmet J. Scanlan, Robbie Keane and Daniel Bachmann. A Hollywood icon was also present cheering on both teams in Soccer Aid supporter Julia Roberts.

Team England started strong, as Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney scored the fastest ever goal in Soccer Aid history in the fourth minute. Not all was lost for World XI as Angry Ginge jumped to rescue goalkeeper Joe Hart with an unbelievable save in the 19th minute. Just before the half time whistle blew, Lioness Toni Duggan, in her Soccer Aid debut, snuck in an exceptional second goal for the England squad – ending the first half on 2-0 to England.

Going into the second half, former England striker Jermaine Defoe scored again for Team England, seamlessly flicked the ball into the left corner of the net, bringing the score to 3-0. Former professional footballer Carlos Tevez wowed the crowds by scoring an unbelievable two goals in rapid succession for World XI. As the 64th minute hit Defoe knocked the ball in for the second time for England – making him now the top scorer in Soccer Aid history.

Much to Paddy McGuinness’s dismay Carlos Teves scored another two times bringing the game to an even to 4-4. As the teams were neck and neck, Big Zuu secured his first ever Soccer Aid goal by sneaking the ball into the net bringing the game to a final score of 5-4 to World XI.

As the only official FA sanctioned mixed gender match, Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025 saw more female players take part than ever before, and an all-female line up once again for the game’s match officials. Rebecca Welch returned as referee, with Natalie Aspinall and Emily Carney as assistants and Jane Simms returning as the 4th official. For the first time, the match was graced with Lioness royalty as Mary Earps took on the role of pundit.

Making up the star-studded squads this year, celebrity debuts were made by the likes of Bella Ramsey, James Nelson-Joyce, Richard Gadd, Gorka Márquez, and many more, as well as football legends in Joe Hart, Steph Houghton, Aaron Lennon, Leonardo Bonucci, Rivaldo and others. Whilst Soccer Aid celebrity returners such as Louis Tomlinson, Paddy McGuinness, Sir Mo Farah, UNICEF UK Ambassador Alex Brooker, Tony Bellew and Gladiator’s Diamond and ex-professionals including Jill Scott, Gary Neville, Jack Wilshere, Jermain Defoe and Edwin Van Der Sar, took to the pitch once more.

Tonight’s show was once again presented by UNICEF UK Ambassador, Dermot O’Leary and UNICEF UK High Profile Supporter, Alex Scott, with commentary from Sam Matterface and Jason Manford. Tonight’s pundits were Soccer Aid legend Lee Mack alongside Big Zuu. The ‘Appreciation Station’ also returned to the stadium this year with famous faces including Olympian Keely Hodgkinson who all picked up the phones to give thanks to generous viewers making donations throughout the night.

Throughout the show, short fundraising appeal films presented by UNICEF UK President, Olivia Colman, UNICEF UK Ambassador Sanjeev Bhaskar and supporters Daniel Mays, Coleen Rooney, Oti Mabuse and Sam Thompson highlighted where the vital money raised by Soccer Aid for UNICEF goes. Coleen Rooney’s film focused on her trip to Poland last month, where she saw how UNICEF is helping Ukrainian refugee children with disabilities who have fled their homes due to the war, providing safe spaces to call home, supporting their mental wellbeing and ensuring they can continue to learn, play and just be children.

The money raised from this year’s game could help UNICEF provide life-changing support for a child, providing clean water and nutrition, vital vaccinations, the opportunity to learn and keeping them safe in times of crisis such as in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine – so every child can get the best start in life.

The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation doubled every donation made to this year’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF campaign up to £5 million, which will go directly to the Child Nutrition Fund, in a bid to accelerate the fight against child wasting – the most life-threatening form of malnutrition, robbing children of their childhoods.

North Shore Animal League America, the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, hosted their annual “Celebration of Rescue” Gala on Thursday, June 12 at the spectacular TriBeCa Rooftop under the stars, overlooking the shimmering lights of Lower Manhattan and the Hudson River.

This year’s event drew attendees from all sectors of New York’s animal-loving community and beyond, many of whom have adopted from North Shore Animal League America.

Animal lover/adopter and ABC News Chief Meteorologist/Chief Climate Correspondent Ginger Zee served as the evening’s Host and North Shore Animal League America foster-parent, spokesperson, and Board Member Beth Stern was, once again, the event’s Chairperson.

A rooftop cocktail hour during the evening’s golden hour was followed by the night’s program, which highlighted stories of the dedicated people behind-the-scenes rescuing animals and the heartwarming tales of recovery and adoptions facilitated by Animal League America. SVP of Operations Joanne Yohannan proudly shared her passion for Animal League America’s no-kill mission and the organization’s more than 80 years of leadership in animal welfare.

Actor/Voice Artist Hank Azaria blew the roof off the joint. Hank Azaria & The EZ Street Band delivered an amazing setlist of Bruce Springsteen tunes that had everyone up on their feet dancing and singing along to the best of The Boss.

Teri Ahearn, principal of Shell Bank Middle School in Brooklyn received the Crystal Collar Educators’ Award for her work with the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum. This year’s Crystal Collar Corporate Award was presented to Swiffer in recognition of their commitment to Animal League America’s ongoing mission of saving the lives of animals in need.

Josh Duhamel Gives Back to the Los Angeles Fire Department

Award-winning actor and Hollywood director Josh Duhamel recently partnered with Bobcat Company for a surprise visit to Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Station 88 to deliver a powerful gift: a brand-new Bobcat UV34XL utility vehicle.

The donation was part of Bobcat’s “Work Worth Doing” campaign—a nationwide initiative celebrating the work of everyday people who are making a difference. Duhamel, a Bobcat ambassador, personally handed over the keys to the UTV in recognition of the LAFD’s first, full-time, paid wildland hand crew, who help mitigate and control wildfires and will use the UTV on the frontlines of future fires.

“I think this is some of the most honorable work that you can do. It takes a special kind of person to sign up as a firefighter, especially in a place like Los Angeles where wildfires run rampant,” said Duhamel. “We believe, myself and Bobcat, that the firefighters deserve the best tools out there, and that’s why we wanted to donate this machine. I think that anytime you can support those who are protecting others is definitely work worth doing.”

Bobcat is also supporting the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation by donating a portion of proceeds from the sale of its limited-edition hat Duhamel is seen wearing during his recent visit to the LAFD.

“We are grateful for Bobcat and Josh’s commitment to advancing our efforts with the generous donation of a Bobcat UTV,” said Adam VanGerpen, Captain and Public Information Officer, Los Angeles City Fire Department. “This will enhance our hand crew’s efficiency in mitigating and fighting wildfires, enabling us to achieve so much more in our mission to keep the community safe.”

Bobcat kicked off its “Work Worth Doing” initiative in May by teaming up with entrepreneur and Magnolia co-founder Chip Gaines to surprise a deserving neighbor and a United States veteran, Jason Shields, with a Bobcat T595 compact track loader. Shields is the founder of Hoof Haven Sanctuary, a non-profit that rescues endangered or injured horses, rehabilitates them and provides them with a forever home.

The “Work Worth Doing” initiative continues throughout 2025 with other Bobcat ambassadors, including country musician Justin Moore and professional BMX rider Ryan Nyquist, visiting and rewarding people making a difference in their communities.

Since 1998, the American Institute for Stuttering (AIS), a non-profit organization offering expert speech therapy and community support for people of all ages who stutter, has helped thousands of individuals speak freely and live fearlessly. .

The evening honored Shawn Fagan, Chief Legal Officer of Citadel, responsible for Citadel’s global legal, compliance, transaction management, and regulatory affairs functions and former NBA forward and stuttering advocate,
Michael Anthony Kidd-Gilchrist. The evening, themed “Just Listen” featured moments of inspiration and speeches from beneficiaries of the organization.

Sam Thompson Completes Epic Match Ball Mission for UNICEF

TV, radio and podcast host Sam Thompson has crossed his ‘Match Ball Mission’ finish line at Old Trafford raising £1,516,433.22 and counting for UNICEF as he completed the ultimate test of endurance, successfully transporting the Soccer Aid for UNICEF match ball more than 260 miles from last year’s stadium, Stamford Bridge in London, to the home of this year’s match, Old Trafford in Manchester.

Sam, who has been raising vital funds to support UNICEF’s work for children around the world, has pushed himself to the absolute limit, taking on five back-to-back endurance days, running and peddling over 260 miles, with each day more intense than the last and ending at football stadiums across the country.

An exhausted Sam’s final morning began in the rain at 5am and as he travelled on foot and bike through Huyton, Warrington, Sale, Stretford and the Coronation Street cobbles before delivering the match ball to Old Trafford at 11.15am where he was met at the finish line by his sister Louise Thompson, brother-in-law Ryan Libbey, and nephew, Leo.

Sam said: “My legs have completely gone but I feel good. I’m so grateful for everyone being here, I didn’t think anyone would turn up. To everyone who has donated, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it a million times, you are so heroic. The money will help so many children, I’m so grateful.”

Supporters have shown out in force across the country to cheer Sam on, along with a host of famous faces, family and friends showing their support including Orlando Bloom, Olivia Colman, Robbie Williams, Joel Dommett, Alex Brooker, Pete Wicks, Dame Sarah Storey, Ben Shepherd, Chris Hughes, Josh ‘JP’ Patterson, Tony Bellew, JLS, Greg Rutherford, Will Best, and his sister and brother-in-law Louise Thompson and Ryan Libbey. Sam also received a boost from Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, this morning who sent him a message on Hits Radio praising his ‘fantastic effort’.

The money raised from Sam’s challenge will support UNICEF’s work for children around the world to grow up safe, healthy and able to play and this year every donation will be tripled, thanks to Children’s Investment Fund foundation matching donations up to £5 million and an anonymous donor matching up to £500,000.

Supporters have been following Sam’s journey live on ITV’s This Morning and Hits Radio each day as he shared his determination and battles on the road to get to the finish line ahead of this year’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF match kick-off on Sunday 15th June.

The mammoth mission has also been captured for a one-off special documentary on ITV1: Sam Thompson’s Match Ball Mission, airing in the lead up to Soccer Aid for UNICEF, produced by Initial TV (a Banijay UK company).

In 1987, Simon co-founded the Children's Health Fund with pediatrician Dr. Irwin Redlener, and launched a mobile medical clinic to bring healthcare to homeless children in New York City. Today, Children’s Health Fund has a fleet of 50 medical, dental and mental health clinics on wheels. Working in partnership with local hospitals or community health centers, Children’s Health Fund has provided health care to hundreds of thousands of poor and indigent children in urban and rural locations across America. With its mobile clinics, Children’s Health Fund has also responded to the need for urgent medical care for communities devastated by Hurricanes Andrew, Katrina and Sandy. A voice for the country’s most vulnerable children, Children’s Health Fund has been a powerful advocate for expanding the safety net for children in poverty, and is currently collaborating with government and schools to ensure that all children are healthy and ready to learn so at-risk kids have a chance for success at school and in life.

Simon has also raised millions of dollars for charitable causes such as amfAR, The Nature Conservancy, The Fund for Imprisoned Children in South Africa, Autism Speaks and The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation. He also sits on the honorary board of Little Kids Rock, which supports free musical education in public schools.

He was awarded the the 2014 Service to America Leadership Award from the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) for his long-time commitment to providing healthcare to underserved children across the country.

The first Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was organized in England in 1824, primarily to prevent the abuse of carriage horses in the days before automobiles. Horses were driven through freezing cold winters and stiflingly hot summers, often with little food, water or rest. The carriage drivers were interested only in making as much money as possible, and would beat the horses if they refused to or were unable to pull the carriages.

The SPCA helped to pass laws that regulated the carriage-horse business. With this success, the Society expanded to include dogs and other animals in its fight against cruelty.

The first American SPCA (ASPCA) was started in 1866 in New York City. There are now SPCAs all over the U.S., and indeed, all over the world.
