NEW TSUBASA OAV (OAD)!!!

Readers of my xxxHolic site will know about the recent announcement of 2 xxxHolic DVDs that will be attached to upcoming volumes of the manga in Japan.

Well the recent manga release of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles has revealed that 2 Tsubasa DVDs will also be released as well!

The teams on both DVDs being the same, does make one assume that they may be linked, similar to how the movies were and the release schedule also makes one believe so with xxxHolic #14 coming out in January and then Tsubasa coming out the following month.

Should be very interesting as more official news is revealed.

Something Different, Death Race

As much as I love Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, it's good to have a great every now and then.

With the lack of any real big news lately (any more OAVs, movies or anime seasons?) I thought I'd mention this post about the Death Race DVD. While the odds of me seeing this movie is 50/50 (not really my thing) the fact that Universal is having a competition with the prize being a chance to appear on the Death Race DVD is pretty cool and well worth checking out!

It's a clean, well written blog with a nice minimalistic layout that loads fast so don't worry about checking it out just because it's an "online competition".

It also has some cool news about the upcoming Harry Potter movie and the cast's ages as well as my personal must see movie this year, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Michelle Yeoh just kicks arse in so many ways.

Love this blog. This guy seems to have almost the exact same taste as me!

Tsubasa Season 2 Region 1 DVD Preorder!

Was wondering about the US, Region 1 English/Japanese DVD release of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Season 2 so did a search and found that it's on it's way with the first volume due for release on the 19th of August! 1 and a half months away!

The numbering will continue from the first season, so the first second season DVD will be "#7" which makes sense. It will also come with a hard collectors box to hold the season in, and I have to say the box looks nice! While I loved the CLAMP artwork on the Japanese Region 2 release, this one just looks better overall.

Tsubasa Updates

Some Tsubasa news!

First of all, the release of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #18 has been moved forward from the 12th of August to the 22nd of July! Almost a whole month early!

Also, according to several sources, there's going to be a BIG announcement regarding Tsubasa attached to the next volume of the Japanese manga due for release in a week or so. Everyone seems to think it has something to do with Mokona's "anime script" she had been working on. My bet is on another Tsubasa OAV possibly crossing over with xxxHolic!

July 17th can't come fast enough!!!

New Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Wallpaper

Just uploaded a new Tokyo Revelations wallpaper featuring Production I.G.'s artwork of the characters from the next arc after Tokyo... which could possibly be animated in the future.

Word is Mokona is working on "an anime script". Could it be another Tsubasa OAV???

Tokyo Revelations 3 Guide / Summary Online!

My apologies for taking so long in writing the guide / summary for the third part of the OAV, Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations: The Princess' Dream. Work has just been crazy and I just haven't had the time to write the summary, take screencaps from the DVD and put it all together.

As a little bonus I've created several avatars featuring that fan fave character that guest starred in the episode and they can be downloaded here.

Also, if you want to add a little something to your Tokyo Revelations viewing experience, check out the new season of xxxHolic Kei which features several parts of Tokyo Revelations from Yuko and Watanuki's perspectives.

If you want to know where Yuko got those jars of water and what happens to the egg that Sakura had to retrieve, xxxHolic Kei is highly recommended.

Tokyo Revelations 3 Impressions

Wow... just... wow! I just got home and threw in my new Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations 3 DVD and man did that rock or what! Not only was that one of the best episodes of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle but one of the best anime movies or episodes I've ever seen!!!

The animation quality was simply stunning, easily surpassing that of the previous two volumes and even the Tsubasa Movie. I was simply in awe at where the story was going, what was happening to the characters and wanting MORE!!! Production I.G. better keep going with these OAVs! If this is the final one I'll be very disappointed!!!

I'd mentioned before that Sakura's Japanese voice actress always seems to act better when working with Production I.G. and I'm proved right again. Not only was Sakura not annoying in this episode I actually found myself rooting for her! Those who were bitching about Sakura doing nothing but sleep and be cute (that includes me!) will be thrilled with what happens in this episode! Sakura puts her racing skills to the test, takes down some massive huge arse mutants and is that blood and bodily mutilation happening? I won't say any more but those who have given up on the anime definitely need to check this OAV out!

Speaking of the anime it's really funny how while I was watching the OAV the anime began to make more and more sense in a similar way to how the Harry Potter books work. At the beginning of the series the storylines and characters border on childish but then halfway through bam blood and violence and revelations left and right!

Those who have watched both seasons of the Tsubasa anime before watching Tokyo Revelations definitely will feel more impact from the scenes shown here.

The highlight of Tokyo Revelations 3 though is something I never expected, the sudden appearance of a character from a very famous CLAMP anime series that was such a thrill to see (I literally said out loud "Oh my God!") and so well presented it was as if the character stepped right out of their own series. I can't wait to see what this character has to do with the storyline.

Something else that stood out was the inclusion of a new song which made me wonder if there's going to be another Tsubasa soundtrack release in the future. Time will tell I guess.

Read As usual this site is spoiler free so please refrain from discussing plot points that occur after the Tokyo Revelations arc. Cheers!

Tokyo Revelation 3 Trailer WARNING!!!

A LOT of sites are reporting that the trailer for the 3rd Tokyo Revelations OAV is now online at the official site but none of these sites are telling people THAT THE TRAILER SPOILS A LOT OF THE STORY!!! If you don't want to be spoiled DO NOT WATCH it. Something pretty major happens in it that really ruined it for me and I don't want you to be disappointed either.

Even if you think you know what's going to happen, don't watch it.

But if you have read the Japanese manga and know what happens you can view the trailer here.

Tsubasa / xxxHolic Movie Trailer

A bit of a late news bite, but Funimation has released a trailer for the Tsubasa and xxxHolic movies that are due out on DVD next month.

As previously mentioned, the two movies that were screened together in Japan though released separately will be released together in a 2 disk double pack for the American/Canadian Region 1 release.

Amazon.com is taking preorders here, currently offering a US$8.99 (30%) discount! Pretty good!

In other news, Amazon.com has also started taking preorders for the 18th volume of the English Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle manga which is due for release in August this year. Preorder now for a 20% discount!

Cover image and shopping link has been added to the Tsubasa Manga Shopping Guide.

Those who can't wait for Tsubasa #16 should be aware that the street release date has moved back a few days from the end of this month to the 5th of February. Only a few days.

Tokyo Revelation 2 Summary and Images

Just finished my summary for the second Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations OAV, The Boy's Right Eye complete with screencaps taken directly from the DVD!

It was Hellova confusing to write, let me tell you! I didn't fully understand the whole Syaoran revelations completely until my third watch through! Talk about confusing! Of course it all makes so much sense now. Talk about a game changer!

I also completely understand now why NHK didn't want this arc adapted for the anime series! There's so much blood and disturbing behaviour in this episode alone that it just couldn't be done any other way.

I also created several new Tsubasa icons from Sakura's "important person" sequence. Enjoy!

Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations 2 Impressions

While Tsubasa #22 which comes with the 2nd Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations DVD isn't due out for another two days, the store near my work put them on the shelves today so I grabbed myself a copy and watched it as soon as I got home!

Let me just say, "Holy CRAP!". That was the craziest half hour of Tsubasa I've ever seen! Some great animation, a super fast script and a voice cast that didn't disappoint! Sakura even impressed me by not only not annoying me but actually impressing me when she was screaming out during the Syaoran battle. It's just a shame it took the actress two seasons of the anime and a movie to express some emotion.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; all the Tsubasa actors seem to do so much better when directed by Production I.G. It was evident in the movie and even moreso now.

xxxHolic fans will love the inclusions of Larg the black Mokona, Yuko who's never looked so beautiful and Watanuki who doesn't speak but who's voice actor lends his talents to the role of Subaru.

The 17th of March can't come soon enough!!!

I hope to God, Production I.G. does another Tsubasa OAV after Tokyo Revelations!!! This OAV has surpassed my expectations in every way!!!

Just got back to Japan a few days ago so a big HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my visitors and readers!!!

This year has a LOT in store for Tsubasa fans with the Tsubasa and xxxHolic movie coming out on DVD next month as well as the Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations OAVs the second of which comes out in just a few days!

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #16 comes out on the 29th of this month and the final Tsubasa English DVD of the first season came out just a few days ago.

The second season will be coming to DVD in Regions 1 and 4 later this year!!!

Tsubasa Christmas Presents For You!

I have been so busy these past few days decorating my tree, buying and wrapping presents, getting ready for my and friends' big Christmas parties but I've managed to put some time aside this morning to make a whole new batch of fresh Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Icons and Avatars just for you! I love it when people use these but PLEASE save them to your computer and upload them somewhere else. Copying the file location of the avatars costs me money. Please stop doing this. It's illegal and just plain bad netiquette.

GREAT NEWS! Amazon.com has just added the Tsubasa movie DVD up for preorder! What's really cool is that the Tsubasa Movie is being packed with the xxxHolic movie (unlike the Japanese release which sold them both separately!).

Something else that's cool (though could change) is that the DVD is listed as being "All Regions" which means that it should play on any DVD player no matter which country you live in!

The two movie DVD is due for release on the 19th of February 2008.

Faye's Coat Item at Gaia Online

GaiaOnline has released another exclusive item to celebrate the release (next month) of the 6th and final Tsubasa DVD (for the first season anyway). It's a rather cool rendition of Faye's coat which is nice but am I the only one that wants some better items instead of jackets and coats? What about Faye's staff? Kurogane's sword? Sakura's feathers or wings? Maybe Syaoran's staff from the first manga? Or what about a cool CLAMP magic circle to stand on?

Tokyo Revelations Episode Summary Online

Have been on a HUGE Tokyo Revelations high today so decided to update the Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations page which included taking screencaps and writing the episode guide / summary for the first episode, The Magician's Message!

As a special present for you I took the time to piece together all of the shots of the Dragons of Heaven and Earth from the closing credits and edit them together into one large panorama! Hope you like it! Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations Image Goodness!

Tokyo Revelations Impression

Well last weekend my Tsubasa #21 manga arrived in the mail and with it the first Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Tokyo Revelation DVD! What did I think of the first episode? In short I LOVED IT!!!

The animation was beyond what I had expected for a direct to DVD release. In fact it rivalled if not exceeded the animation of the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle theatrical movie that was released a few years back! Simply breathtaking in almost every way from the fluid action scenes to the beautiful backgrounds (those skies!). Everything was really very well done.

The voice acting was also spot on which confirms what I've long suspected that Production I.G. must have very good voice directors. These are the same voices that were used in the tv series but for some reason I couldn't stand several of them (especially Sakura) but here (and also in the movie which was also made by Production I.G.) all the mains have so much more range and emotion with some standouts being Syaoran and Faye both of which never really "wowed" me in the series but shone as exceptional here.

The script was also spot on though it was written by Okawa (a member of CLAMP) so I wouldn't have expected anything less. Having just read Tsubasa #15 which starts the Tokyo arc I was constantly surprised with how closely the script stuck with the manga. The direction also was heavily influenced by the manga with lots of shots looking like they were lifted right from the page. Kurogane grabbing Faye, Faye collapsing, the rounded stone and Kurogane and Kamui's fight are several examples of such influence.

God, I loved this so much. What else is there to talk about?

The music! I've always loved the composer from the anime series and she returns here with about a 95% new instrumental score (something I wasn't expecting). Again she really shines though unlike the series which used her tracks and just threw them behind scenes, here it looks like she composed the music for the action on screen as all the music fits flawlessly!

The opening credits are INSPIRED. I never would have expected the magical circles to be used in such a way but they work very well go with Yui's Syncronicity perfectly!

The ending credits have got to be one of the best ending credits I've seen. Period. Not only is the song so much more mature than what we've come to know from Tsubasa's ending themes but the on screen animation is PERFECT! The panning shots of the gang (where's Mokona though?) look like they were drawn by CLAMP themselves (they even use the clothes they're wearing on the box that came with it!) and the Dragons of Heaven and Earth all standing together is so powerful I almost forgot who the main characters of the show really were!

Overall I give this 10 out of 10!

This was so much more than I expected. I can't wait until January when the next DVD comes out!

Manga and DVD Preorders and a Theatrical Movie Release!

Have just updated the Tsubasa Manga Shopping Guide to include the cover image and preorder link for Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #17 which is due for release on the 13th of May next year.

Also updated the DVD Shopping Guide to include all the preorder links for Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations and the remaining two DVDs in the first season, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #5 and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #6.

In movie news, the Tsubasa and xxxHolic movies will be shown on the big screen at an anime festival in New York between the 7th and 9th of December. More info HERE.
