2012-08-28T11:58:00.002-07:00

This was a request sent to me by my daughter. "Special request to all you kids returning to school in August: If you see someone who is struggling to make friends or being bullied because he/she doesn't have many friends or because they are shy or not as pretty or not dressed in the most "In" clothes -- PLEASE step up. 2012-07-12T11:23:00.001-07:00

In view of what has happened in our own backyards this past week, I feel that this msg explains the signs that we should all look for when watching out for our loved ones especially the little children. Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning

Sue is my granddaughter and her story is all about safety. 'It was the most pain I've ever felt' Sue McLeod, a bubbly 27-year-old lunch-delivery woman from Saanich, was delighted to purchase a 1988 Volkswagen camper van in early April. By Times Colonist (Victoria)May 10, 2007 It had a canvas pop top, a comfy bed and a propane-fuelled fridge and stove. She named it Ruby Tuesday. On April

Optimistic Today

2012-04-30T14:42:00.000-07:00

Today and days forward I am thinking positive. Quilting has been sort of put on the back burner. Still making quilts for cancer patients but getting discouraged about my house not selling. Just go to MLS# 330306 and see for yourself. Where can you get this beautiful water view, the flowers are in bloom all around, watching the BC ferries sail on, a busy but quiet water actions, freighters

Yes, I Have Been Busy

2012-02-29T13:01:00.000-08:00

Today being a Leap Year Day has brought us wind, rain, bits of snow I am sure just to remind us that we have to endure this only once every 4 years and leading into March with great force [like a lion] and then a beautiful Spring & Summer to follow. I have added these 2 quilts [Quilts for Cancer Patients] This quilt was made up of fabric as a result of expermental pcs that had been hand painted

Warning! Don't Do What I Did

2012-01-30T22:45:00.000-08:00

Practising FMQ this afternoon I thought that I would try a different approach. I purchased a pkg of Frixion Eraseable Gel Marking Pens and on a practise square I drew a quilting design. I was not very good so drew a second row "trying to be perfect while learning". Well not paying any attention to what I picked up, when I went to erase the marking they were not coming out and OMG the pen that I

Stay At Home Day

2012-01-18T22:16:00.000-08:00

Yes, today was definitely a stay-at-home day. Why? Just look at who visited our area last night. After shovelling the sidewalk and driveway I was ready for a rest in front of the fire place with a good book instead I let tennis get my attention but am working at my free motion quilting. I will post as soon as ready. Have a super Thursday.

Learning to Free Motion Quilting

2012-01-12T20:01:00.000-08:00

Free Motion Quilting has been a thorn in my side. I have taken classes 4 times and each time I learn something new and it also gives me a little more confidence. Last year I started following Leah Day's 365 different designs to use in free motion quilting. This year Leah is offering classes on Free Motion Quilting [video] which started last week. If this is one of your New Year's Resolutions to

Visited German Christmas Markets

2011-12-18T20:29:00.000-08:00

It's been awhile since I last posted but I would like to share with you some photos from Germany. This is my first visit to Germany and I was very impressed with their culture, buildings, the beauty of it all. I am sorry to say that I did not come across a Quilt Shop which is what we all look for when visiting a new city/country. Others have found them, but we were restricted in our freedom as we

Sharing a Proud Grandmother's Event

2011-11-14T22:48:00.001-08:00

I would like to share a proud grandmother's event. My grandson Ethan was awarded the MVP throphy for his involvement in playing football. Charleswood Broncos 2011 Bantams MVP "Ethan Diakow" Ethan is 14 years old and is entering the next level of play. Oh so proud Grandma! I would also like to share a wish that was sent to me. As Christmas is fast approaching we get caught up in christmas gifts.

After the Storm

2011-11-12T12:06:00.001-08:00

We survived the flash storm yesterday without too much damage in my area. Just a few planters tipped over. I guess that it was just trying to get our attention to the fact that yesterday was a special day. 11th year of the 20th century, 11th month, 11th day, 11th hour, 11 minutes and 11 seconds which we will never see in our lifetime again. [speaking for myself]. Today looking outside from my

November 11, 2011

2011-11-11T14:27:00.000-08:00

This year, Veteran's Day, 11,11,11 will never be repeated in our lifetime so I have captured what it was like outside my house. "Les't We Forget". I give thanks for what these brave men and women have done for our country. Not only were our veterans remembered on land, they were also remembered at sea. I did not get a picture of all the Sail Boats that sailed past my residence, but you can see at

Back at my Blog for a bit

2011-10-21T16:40:00.001-07:00

Guess the Internet also goes on Strike! Mine must have settled as it is back. I did have a hard time trying to get it back to work. I have completed my third quilt for "Victoria's Quilts" which in turn are donated to Cancer patients. And, after finishing that quilt, I have once again taken a Free Motion Quilting Class. #4 and you would think that I would be a pro by this time, but my brain and

3RD Garage Sale Project Completed

2011-10-06T17:49:00.000-07:00

It's been quite some time since I posted anything. Remember some time ago July to be exact I posted that I had attended a Fabric Garage Sale. Well today I completed my third project. I have to give Janet credit for starting this project, I only finished it. This quilt is being donated to Victoria's Quilts [which in turn is being donated to Cancer Patients]. In order to reduce my stash I have

Second GS Project

2011-08-01T19:11:00.000-07:00

Remember I posted my great GS buys a couple of weeks ago, well I have finished project #2. I'm not too fast at completing projects. I have great intentions, I have all these projects visualized [as finished you know]and that is where it ends. Here is what my second project looks like. First - as you can see these were finished blocks [35 of them], all I had to do is try and match one more block,

Venturing Out

2011-07-16T11:32:00.000-07:00

Yesterday I decided that I would visit another Quilting Group and my car drove directly to Crofton. Every quilting group that I have visited since being a quilter myself has so much talent and it seems like every group is working on something completely different from the other group. I visited the Crofton Senior Center where several quilters meet from that area. It was bright and cheery [newely

One Project from GS

2011-07-13T01:10:00.000-07:00

When you add fabric to your already huge stash, you have to get busy and do something with it. I am so proud of myself as I have completed one project and it is going into my Christmas Gift Box. This one is for my great granddaughter. She may return it as she is so in love with Justin Bieber that this will not do as a substitute. This is from the pillow case kit that I got at the GS. It was so

OMG! Not Another Hobby - GS

2011-07-11T00:01:00.000-07:00

I didn't think that I would ever go to a Garage Sale but I was wrong. This one was a special one. I was half an hour late and missed out on some of the better deals but there was a lot for everyone there. I was approached by a person there stating that she was a quilter and could I tell her what she was missing as a quilter as she had never seen so much fabric in a one person's stash. Was this a

O! Canada 2011

2011-07-03T10:35:00.000-07:00

Once again The Loose Threads have outdone themselves. A tradition was started several years ago to share our talents by hosting a mini Quilt Show in our community on Canada Day. This year was no exception, on display was the quilt judged Best Use of Color at the 2010 Cowichan Fall Fair. There were kittens in their baskets, on shelves, and on quilts. Not to take all the applause, the sheep,
