The Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology is pleased to offer affordable child care services in a licensed, on-site facility, for its current students and for employees of Collier County Public Schools. The facility, the Learning Partners Early Education and Care Center, is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on all days that school is in session for students. The Center is operated by a full-time, highly qualified staff of instructional and non-instructional employees; students in LWIT's Early Childhood Education program also work in the facility, under the supervision of the trained staff.

Services Available to the Public and LWIT Students

Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology, a public, not-for-profit institution provides low cost services to the Collier community. Services are provided by LWIT students under the direct supervisor of the instructor. A small price is charged to recoup the cost of materials and support the clinical/lab portion of the curriculum. Our curriculum includes academics and practical hands-on training. We invite you to visit us and take advantage of these great amenities! Tipping is not allowed but donations to the program are accepted. Days and times for services are based on the LWIT school calendar.

During November, visits are made to the middle schools. * In December, an open house is held for interested families. * The application window closes in mid January. * Notifications are made in mid February. If more than 150 students per grade level are interested, a lottery will be held. Students not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list.

An application must be completed and submitted to the LWH Student Services Office. Students must be high school students who live in the Naples or Marco Island areas. All students will work towards a standard diploma and technical certification. For the 2007-2008 school year, only 9th and 10th grades will be available. 11th grade will open 2008-2009; and 12th grade will open 2009-2010.

We're watching our high school building move through its final stages of completion, as it will be ready for school opening in August 2008. The work is all done except for exterior paving and landscaping, minor tiling and painting inside the facility, and final touch-ups and cleaning.

So on her 80th birthday, Frances, now a vibrant widow, made a resolution to herself that it was now or never to finish high school. So following up on this self-promise, Frances enrolled in the GED program at Lorenzo Walker Institute in January 2007.

It's beginning to look a lot like a building! We've got walls, we've got floors, we've got stairs, and in the next month we'll have a roof and windows. Watching the tilt-wall construction was amazing and exciting, and students and staff alike continue to be impressed by the work being done on our high school facility.
