Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year to get creative, and this time I decided to make a Halloween Easel Card using one of Lori’s wonderful designs.

At first glance, this card looks quite simple to make—and it is! But with a few extra techniques, you can turn a simple paper project into a little spooky work of art.

I used ink to create shadows and dimension, and added foam tape in several places to give the card extra depth. These small details really make the Halloween elements pop!

What you need

• A cutting machine
• Cardstock in several colors
• Ink and an ink blending tool
• Foam tape
• Glue

Step 1
Start by cutting all the different pieces from your chosen cardstock using your cutting machine.
I used different shades of cardstock to create contrast between the pumpkin, leaves, branches and other elements.

Step 2 – Create the easel mechanism

To make the card stand upright, the sentiment acts as the stopper for the easel.
Add foam tape underneath the sentiment to give it some extra height. This allows the front of the card to rest against it and stay upright.
The foam tape also gives the sentiment a lovely dimensional effect.

Step 3 – Now it’s time to add some spooky shading!
I used white ink on the black background layer of the face. This creates more variation in the black and makes the different layers stand out instead of looking completely flat. You don’t need a lot of ink, build it up gradually until you are happy with the effect.

Step 4 – For even more dimension, use ink around the edges of the different cardstock pieces.
This is one of my favorite tricks when making paper projects. It gives the cardstock a slightly darker edge and instantly creates more depth.
For a Halloween card, darker shading works especially well because it gives the project that extra spooky and mysterious feeling, I used brown ink.

Step 5 – Next, glue the different branch pieces on top of each other.
Once the branches are assembled, attach them to the pumpkin.
Layering these pieces helps create a more detailed look and makes the pumpkin feel much more dimensional.

Step 6 – To add even more dimension, attach the flower using foam tape instead of gluing it directly onto the pumpkin.
This lifts the flower slightly from the surface and creates a beautiful layered effect.
I love using foam tape on paper projects because even the smallest details can make such a big difference!

Step 7 – Finally, attach the finished pumpkin to the card base.
Take a moment to check that all your layers are firmly attached and that the easel mechanism works properly.

And that’s it—your spooky Halloween Easel Card is finished!

I really love how a relatively simple design can be transformed with just a few extra techniques.

The inked edges create shadows, while the foam tape adds dimension, making the pumpkin and embellishments really stand out. Together, these little details turn the card into a fun and spooky Halloween decoration.

This is definitely a project I would recommend if you want to create something that looks impressive without being overly complicated.

I used Lori’s Bee Happy paper collection throughout, and I love how the yellows, greens, floral, bees and honey-inspired patterns work together .  It was such a fun way to combine different SVG files into one project while keeping everything cohesive.

First, I uploaded the project into Design Space. I cut enough pieces to make 12 boxes. The first photos show a single set of cut pieces. I numbered the flaps in the order that I would fold them into the box. Then I added strong tape to the flaps as shown below.

I wanted more of an open gift bag feel for the favors, so I decided to fold two of the flaps into the box and adhere. This keeps them out of the way. I inked all of my pieces with brown ink and then began assembly. I used foam adhesive to pop up the center of the pumpkin.

I folded all of the panels and adhered the favor box base. Then I wrapped the rose cardstock belt piece around the base. All that’s left is the pumpkin, some cute ribbon and the surprises that will be tucked inside!

I cut a few extra flowers to add as embellishments. I assembled the bouquet, inking the edges and using plenty of foam adhesive to add dimension to the layers. Then I added 4 photos that are 3×4″ or 4×3″.

This box card features two insets, two acorn covers, and a flower cluster on the front. I began by adding ink to most of the elements to give them dimension. The large flowers have two main layers plus a center, while the smaller flowers have one layer and a center. For several flowers, I swapped the paper centers for enamel dots or brads. The suggested placement for the small flowers works well, but if I could, I’d move the small orange flower out and up along the green stem. Once assembled, the acorn stem covers it.

The main body of the box card is a simple box with two acorn covers and two small, patterned paper covers. Each acorn has three layers: one for the body and two for the cap. The score lines are folded into mountain folds, with the acorns attached to the long sides of the box and the patterned papers on the short sides. For the inserts, I folded the score lines as valley folds. I flipped the card base over, added glue to the back of the tab on the purple flower insert, and lined it up with the top of the box and the score line. I repeated the process for the second insert, aligning it with the top of the box and the back of the first insert. Then I flipped the inserts back over, glued the back side of the tabs, and closed the card base over them, making sure everything was aligned. Finally, I glued the box tab and closed the card, carefully lining up all the edges.

With the acorn box, I attached the orange flower cluster to the front of the box. I also added a “Hello” sticker and a small acorn sticker from my stash of supplies.
