Hello, good evening! I am very close to finish an important work to Loronix and also a key effort to bring some relief to the financial problems I'm facing this year. I would love to make the announcement now, but I need some final and necessary adjustments. It is only a matter of days, days of hard work by the way. Meanwhile, I would leave you in with a great record of one of the most important Brazilian instrumentalist, Astor Silva, the legendary trombonist and arranger recording with a fake name of Lord Astor. Let's see.

This is Lord Astor e Sua Conjunto - E Danca (1961), for Imperial, the legendary Odeon door sales subsidiary. We know Imperial uses to reissue Odeon albums with another presentation, but so far I could not identify which original Astor Silva release this album belongs. This cover was also used on another Imperial release, Mike Falcao e Seu Conjunto - No Embalo do Samba (1966), which is Walter Wanderley recording with this fake name. Anyway, better stay with the outstanding Astor Silva playing leading a Conjunto -- credited by mistake as an orchestra -- of unknown musicians. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! And thanks Moos for writing. Loronix was on hiatus for almost two weeks and things were really strange down here. My health has been stable; it was only a matter of accumulated work. I've been working as freelance since January and two websites I was making for my customers reached the final development stage in the last days, all together. Weird time of very hard work. I will keep the community informed as soon as the result of these engagements gets on-line. Who knows someone needs a website and hires me, helping also Loronix. Let's see.

This is Pernambuco e Seu Conjunto - Em Ritmo de Danca (1957), for Polydor, with the well know pistonist Pernambuco delivering piano playing backed by a Conjunto, surprisingly credited by Polydor. This is not the first Pernambuco album at Loronix and you should not take by mistake the percussionist Pernambuco do Pandeiro, also active during the 1950's. Pernambuco was also in charge of arrangements and some organ playing. The conjunto brings important musicians, such like the bassist Luis Marinho and the legendary Brazilian guitarrist Bandeirante. Hello, good evening! I had today my great nephew Pedro with me throughout the whole preparation process of this album. We made everything together, including the vinyl washing, transfer, cover scanning, processing and the Google searches to gather information about. Pedro was amazed with the fact this album was from 1956, which is something hard to believe for such a young person. He got really amazed with the results, the 10-inch format and even collaborated with the research, bringing us relevant music facts from 1956, as follows:

15/mar - First run of My Fair Lady musical, New York, US.
28/mar - Birth of Zizi Possi (Brazilian singer).
15/jun - John Lennon is introduced to Paul McCartney.
05/nov - Passing of Art Tatum (American pianist).
14/Nov - Birth of Almir Satter (Brazilian singer, composer and instrumentalist).

...and he could also gather Ribamar birth in 09-dec-1919 and his passing, 06-set-1987. Thanks Pedro. Let's see.

This is Ribamar - Dancando com Ribamar e Seu Conjunto (1956), for Columbia, featuring the first LP recorded by Ribamar and his third album available at Loronix, which is a very small amount. Ribamar was a very important musician and composer. He made a very famous duo with the Tito Madi, being also a frequent composition partner of Dolores Duran. Dancando com Ribamar e Seu Conjunto features Ribamar playing his first instrument, the accordion. Such like many other accordion players, Ribamar adopted the piano as soon the bossa nova was birth. The repertoire features a blending of Brazilian and international tunes; including two compositions written by Trio Surdina members, Chiquinho do Acordeon, Fafa Lemos and the legendary Garoto. Musicians were not credited by Columbia. Tracks include.

Hello, good evening! I spent a lot of energy trying to make a nice transfer of this beautiful and important album. Unfortunately, the outcome was a little behind the others. Violao solo albums are always difficult to transfer. Sometimes the silence is part of the music and any imperfection becomes easily audible. However, this is an above the average violao only album, recorded by one of the most influent Brazilian violao players, Dilermando Reis. Let's see.

This is Dilermando Reis - Sua Majestade o Violao (1957), for Continental, his 12-inch LP, featuring fascinating Dilermando Reis renditions of classical tunes on side A and Brazilian popular music on side B. I cannot decide which side I like most, but track 05 - Noturno Nº 2 Opus 10 (Frederic Chopin) really made my mind today and it is my choice on our preview feature, available just before the download links. Here we go with the third volume of this long series of eleven albums called "Na Onda" recorded by this unique Brazilian musician, the trombonist, conductor, arranger and composer Ed Maciel, requested by many Loronix's friends. Na Onda is a rather curious series. The value proposition is based on popular music and popular albums. However, these albums are really hard to find. It is not a matter of commercial failure since the series would never reach eleven albums. Let's see.

This is Ed Maciel e Sua Orquestra - Na Onda Volume 3 (1967), for London, the third out of eleven albums recorded by Ed Maciel and his orchestra, mainly music for dance, very similar to the albums released by Maestro Erlon Chaves’ Banda Veneno Internacional on those nice years. Henrique Simonetti - Panorama Musical (1956)

Hello, good evening! I got amazed when I found this album for an unbelievable price last weekend. It was filed on those generic shelves of "everything for R$ 1", which is something strange. This is an important album, it is the first album recorded by one of the most influential record companies in Brazil, RGE. Let's see.

This is Henrique Simonetti - Panorama Musical (1956), for RGE, the first album released by RGE, featuring Maestro Simonetti arrangements for six Brazilian tunes. Just in case you missed, Maestro Simonetti is an Italian musician that came to Brazil in 1941 and became an influential artist until his departure back to his homeland in the mid 1960's. RGE kindly delivers personnel listing with some surprises, including Maestros Waldomiro Lemke and Silvio Tancredi on bass and piano and a surprising participation of Zito Righi at clarinet, credited as Leonardo Righi, which is his real name. Hello, good evening! If you read my texts since Loronix beginning, you should agree with me that I don't often say that an album is very rare and very hard to find. However, there are exceptions. I never had the chance to see this album before. I made also a careful research on the Internet to find info about this one, especially a cover picture, because my original is rather damaged. The cover is breaking; almost turn dust in my hands. I got pleased when I found a recent photo of Celso Murilo. Let's see.

This is Celso Murilo, Orgao e Ritmo - Ritmos na Passarela (1961), for the tiny and legendary Pawal label. It is nice to know that he is alive and making music. This link shows Celso Murilo in the city of Caxambu, southeast of Minas Gerais state. I love that region. Getting back to business -- I'm having concentration problems today -- this is the second Celso Murilo career LP, they were all released in the same year and for the same label. It is likely that we have the same musicians who participated in the third album, Mr. Ritmo, in this session. Celso Murilo is just Joao Gilberto favorite organist. Period. You cannot miss this one to agree with Joao Gilberto. Ritmos na Passarela is delicious to here and very well played by not credited musicians. Tracks include:

Toots Thielemans - The Brasil Project Vol. 2 (1993)

This is another solid listen provided by one of the most fantastic friends I have the change to meet with Loronix. Let me stand up first before saying this name, Caetano Rodrigues. Just follow this link and be amazed with loads and loads of rare and impossible to find music provided by Caetano.

It is important and an act of respect that all music provided by Caetano Rodrigues be available to the community, and that's the reason why this album is being reposted in the first page. I'm also missing Caetano's valuable advice; I learned a lot with Caetano. Anyway, this is also an album that everybody cries for a rebirth. That's what I had to say. I will keep my 2007 words below with some modifications.

Here we go on Caetano's international release of the day, actually it is quite a mistake of mine to tag a Toots Thielemans album recorded with Brazilian artists as international. Toots Thielemans has a great identification with the music from Brazil, being here several times of his life, recorded a wonderful album with Elis Regina, performed with several other renowned Brazilian artists, such as Rosinha de Valenca, Sivuca, among others.

Hello, good evening! Perhaps, good morning! I do not know. I am writing this text without any aid of the Internet, which according to the service provider will only be back in 36 hours due a broken fiber optic cable somewhere close to my place. When living in Copacabana, these things do not happen, or when it happens, were immediately corrected. It is quite different to write about such important musician and album with no Internet to help me. This is Moacir Santos - Opus 3 NO. 1 (1968), for Discovery (USA), kindly provided in FLAC by my new friend MCR (which is only a temporary nickname before I get his accordance of a name). Thanks MRC, Opus 3 NO. 1 is a missing piece at Moacir Santos discography available at Loronix and if I'm not wrong, it was recorded in 1968, and issued on in 1978, ten years before the studio sessions. This is Moacir Santos playing his own creations and singing, backed by renowned musicians, which includes an amazing participation of the legendary Chaim Lewak at the piano, as available on personnel listing, also provided by MCR. O Quarteto - Antologia da Bossa Nova | 20 Anos Depois (1977)

Do you like vocal groups? I do. It is nice to hear and understand arrangements made for voices and this group excels on this kind of thing. O Quarteto recorded only three albums, two are available here at Loronix, while the third, released in 1969, is totally unknown to my ears. This is a reposting with several improvements, including the FLAC files and high quality front and back cover scans. I will keep my original writing with a few and cosmetic adaptations.

This is O Quarteto - Antologia da Bossa Nova 20 Anos Depois (1977), for Philips. You probably remember the first O Quarteto LP released at Loronix, but if you don't, O Quarteto is a vocal group that released only two self-titled albums in the late 60's, in spite of the active participation they had on several Festivais da Cancao. Antologia da Bossa Nova 20 Anos Depois was released with an interval of 9 years between the second LP. I do not have available info of the reasons they do not made albums, since they are a great vocal group that is always backed up by renowned musicians, as you can check bellow at personnel listing. Help Needed: Loronix Dedicated Server - Year 2!

Loronix dedicated server contract is about to expire and once again I would like to engage the community to another year. This is a very important and critical milestone to Loronix. A little bit of history in case you have missed this story.

About a year ago, Loronix was surprised by an attack, leaving entire archive off-line. It was a very difficult time, solved through the mobilization of our community to purchase a dedicated server that enabled Loronix to be most stable of all music blogs.

This aid came through a raising funds campaign, guaranteeing this server for a period of one year. This server transformed Loronix significantly and today I the website cannot survive alone.

A year has gone and now it is necessary to renew our contract. And as I said, your help will be essential. Our objective is a little bit easier; we need to achieve a US$ 686.38 goal for a whole new year. My PayPal US$ 21,62 current balance is already included.

Our deadline is on July 27 and contributions will be collected using this widget below, which will be always available in our side bar until we reach our goal.

Hello, good evening! I would like to send my apologies to Loronix's friends that sent contributions in the last weeks. For reasons that I really don't know, several new contributions and contributors came out of the blue recently. This is really fine! Thank you.

It was very difficult to choose something among several alternatives available. The last posts were mostly by singers and I was looking for an instrumental release. I decided to take this one, for several reasons. It is the first album recorded by one of the most acclaimed artists we made available at Loronix. It is also a classic album that can be taken under an instrumental perspective since it has the participation of the legendaries Copa 5 and Os Bossa Três, lead by J.T. Meirelles and Luiz Carlos Vinhas, respectively. And it is a Jorge Ben album never released before at Loronix. Let's see.

This is Jorge Ben - Samba Esquema Novo (1963), for Philips, with well-known Jorge Ben compositions in a short and solid session featuring best of bread Samba Jazz combos from the early 60's. Jorge Ben had also Maestro Carlos Monteiro de Souza and Lindolpho Gaya in charge of arrangements. Anyway, I feel stupid writing about an album that everybody loves and that everybody wrote wonderful things about. That's why I will let with Jorge Ben and his Samba Esquema Novo. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! It has been a long time since we spoke for the last time, then it's time to talk a little about several things that are happening around our community. To begin, I would like to apologize AdHoc for skipping his new collaboration due small technical problems from my side. I would like to share an album that has been requested by many friends since the beginning of Loronix, which is perhaps the first album recorded in Brazil following this concept of summarizing the main songs of an artist career with the help of special guests, a very common practice today. Everybody says this one has something special and I totally agree. The repertoire is great and the guests that Erasmo Carlos joined in this session are much more than regular special guests. This is Erasmo Carlos - Convida (1980), for Polydor, Bringing twelve Erasmo Carlos compositions, most of them written in partnership with Roberto Carlos. Together, the duo forms one of the most successful composer partnerships of Brazilian popular music. Roberto Carlos opens the show and is followed by renowned artists, with some others that were in evidence only on that period; such like As Freneticas and A Cor do Som. Hello, good evening! It is good to be back to Loronix after a long and unplanned break. The villain was that recurrent upload speed problem I now have on my new place. As I was really busy, I decided that a break would be appropriate to accelerate certain things here. Now it is time to resume Loronix. Fellows, I'm back and I'm back with some solid records in a row. Although unplugged, kept the habit of transferring old records, even as a kind of occupational therapy. Let's see.

This is Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Sax Sensacional Nr. 5 (1964), for Copacabana, which is the last album recorded by Moacyr Silva on his successful "Sax Sensacional" series of five albums, and the fourth of the series at Loronix. I really enjoyed this fifth volume, which unfortunately did not bring credits for the Conjunto members that certainly brings Chaim Lewak at the piano, delivering great duels with Moacyr Silva tenor sax. PS.: A few years ago I decided to get rid of TV sets, but I decided to install a TV at home this week. I am positively impressed with the musical programming, which now shows Marisa Gata Mansa and Carlos Lyra singing Bossa Nova together. Good.

Walter Wanderley e Portinho - Orgao, Sax e Sexy (1964)

Hello, good evening! As told, Walter Wanderley is among us and bringing Maestro Portinho, delivering a blend of organ and sax, really unusual. In case you missed something about these giants, Walter Wanderley was a legend, acknowledged as one of the best Brazilian organists. He also made a solid career in the United State, releasing several records. Walter Wanderley passed away in 1986, United States, almost forgotten to the masses. It is sad that nobody remembers who Walter Wanderley was. Make a test, ask about Walter Wanderley for your friends with less than 30. Only a few will be able to say.

Maestro Portinho, is also a well-know musician to Loronix community and one of my favorite maestros. According with Zarville - Loronix Official Orchestra Music Advisor - Portinho is the Brazilian Maestro who is the best on mixing Samba and orchestral arrangements. Portinho is also an instrumentalist, play sax and clarinet. He also recorded some Choro albums. If there is something in common between these two musicians, I believe it is their constant work in studios, they were very active. Let's see.

This is Walter Wanderley e Portinho - Orgao, Sax e Sexy (1964), for Philips, released just after Entre Nos, the first Walter Wanderley album recorded for Philips, which is one that I like very much. Hello, good evening! It has been a month or two since I felt in love again with this masterpiece. Maybe I heard this record more than a thousand times and it is amazing how it gets better and better after each spin. It is one of the most impressive records I ever heard in my whole life. I bringing it back to the first page just to please friends who never get tired of crying for an upgrade. If you miss this one, stop reading and get yourself ready for a really lovely album. I'm keeping my original writings, including a new transfer, hi-quality cover scans and some other minor improvements.

One of the most difficult things I face when introducing Bossa Nova to new friends is to explain why Joao Gilberto is considered a genius. I know how hard it is to understand Joao Gilberto as a whole. Luiz Harding has providing us with some "basics", which is the second and third Joao Gilberto albums released in 1960 and 1961, recently made available at Loronix.

This MASTERPIECE was recorded ten years after these two releases (if you agree the albums recorded with Stan Getz for Verve are not Joao Gilberto solo LPs) and it seems that a century has passed; Joao Gilberto is at his peak, taking to studio only his violao and a reduced percussion set. Joao Gilberto renditions of these ten songs are such like heaven on earth; take this album as something very special that will be with you for the rest of your life. I love this album and I'm now with a blend of two contradictory feelings, the happiness of showing to my friends at Loronix and the disappointment of knowing that it is out of print again.

Jacob do Bandolim - Os Saraus de Jacob (1971)

Hello, good evening! Today was the best day I had since Loronix Headquarters made the move to Jacarepaguá in March 2009. The reason for such a perfect day was simple; my internet link was down all day long, which enabled me to leave the house for some interesting musical missions around the neighborhood.

The first mission was a visit to the famous Retiro dos Artistas house and try to talk to its most famous guest at the moment, Mrs. Rosana Toledo. My idea was to take some of her albums with me and giver her as a gift. I read that she no longer have them. I could not talk with Rosana Toledo, but I could schedule something for a new opportunity. Perhaps I can take some pictures and gather a message to our community?

My second mission had this album in mind. I knew Jacob do Bandolim lived in Jacarepaguá and his place was a meeting point with plenty of music everytime. I walked the streets, I asked questions, I ran some risk by going to places that did not know, but unfortunately could not find the place.

Anyway, I hope this album can bring this information. It was recorded in the house of Jacob Bandolim and released a few years after his early death by Herminio Bello de Carvalho. Let's see.

This is Jacob do Bandolim - Os Saraus de Jacob (1971), for RCA Camdem, featuring Jacob do Bandolim performing at his own place with Conjunto Epoca de Ouro with Paulo Tapajos as special guest on three tracks. Side A brings a recording taken in 16/Aug/1968, and side B two months later with Paulo Tapajos in 06/Nov/1968. Liner notes written by Herminio Bello de Carvalho bring detailed information about both sessions and the whole spirit of how these Saraus happened at Jacob do Bandolim's place. Tracks include:

Avena de Castro e Primo - Som Ambiente Vol. 2 (1975)

Hello, good evening! Maybe I am wrong as usual, but I think this record will surprise many friends. I never heard about the existence of a second volume of the anthological Som Ambiente, recorded by Marcos Valle and Azymuth in 1972. And this is what both volumes have in common since the concept is totally different. Instead of not credited artists, this surprising duo has loud and clear credits, including lots of information available at the back cover (some of them very hard to believe) and the participation of Durval Ferreira on two tracks, which is also the producer director. Let's see.

This is Avena de Castro & Joao Peixoto Primo - Avena e Primo | Som Ambiente Vol 2 (1975), featuring for the first time at Loronix the sitar player Avena de Castro and the well-known pianist and organist Primo. Avena's sitar sounds like an electric guitar, different from the sound of sitar made popular by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar in the 1960's, which was my expectation before taking Som Ambiente Vol 2 for a first spin. A few Google searches were enough to tell me that Avena de Castro started as a classical musician and later embraced popular music. He is also considered the first and only sitar player in Brazilian popular music. Tracks include:

Ary Barroso - Encontro com Ary (1955)

Hello, good day! This is unique and really cool. Ary Barroso recorded this album in 1955 with the purpose of creating a legacy for future generations to listen to his work and learn about his music. I think Ary Barroso would be really pleased to see his message reaching so many people over the Internet 55 years before this album was released. Let's see.

This is Ary Barroso - Encontro com Ary (1955), for Copacabana, featuring Ary Barroso playing piano, chatting and singing his own compositions. I'm making available Ary's message using a hi-res scan from my copy, which is not the first 1955 Copacabana's issue, but a 1964 reissue. It is nice to see that Copacanana kept the same artwork for front and back covers. It is also mandatory to check Daniella Thompson's Ary Barroso Discography for additional details on this nice album, including an English translation of Ary Barroso's message. Tracks include:

Rogerio Duprat - The Brazilian Suite (1970)

Hello, good evening! I'm an avid reader of everything posted by the huge community of Brazilian music enthusiasts I know at the internet, which includes, several discussion lists, forums and many personal blogs, such like Loronix. Tropicalia is a frequent subject, especially when discussed by people outside Brazil. Tropicalia was a very important movement, but left no more than 50 albums (according with some reviewers, no more than 20).

This is the reason why I would like to say THANK YOU to AdHoc. He just sent us a Tropicalia album recorded by one of the most important artists of the movement and a very rare record, known by only a few friends. Let's see.

This is Rogerio Duprat - The Brazilian Suite (1970), for KPM Music Library, with Maestro Rogerio Duprat delivering Tropicalia arrangements with lots of electric guitars, percussion and orchestra. KPM Music Library was a British label that went famous by its "1000 Series". KPM was later bought by EMI and many of the LPS from the 1000 Series have been reissued on CD, which is not the case of Rogerio Duprat - The Brazilian Suite, unpublished since this first issue, kindly presented by AdHoc to Loronix community. Ze Maria - Ze Maria e Seu Piano de Prata (1958)

Hello, good evening! I'm a parrot that believes in logic, although I have some mannerisms. Perhaps this is the reason why I like technology, which is a field where things work as they should always be. But this time something does not seems logical. I'm having a very strange problem with my upload speed. And this problem is specific, it happens only between my computer and Loronix server. When I make uploads to any other server, it works. I need someone to perform some tests with me, which is only to perform some uploads and report back the transfer speed. I took a day to upload this album at the glorious speed of 3Kbps. I'm glad it is now over and I can update Loronix. Let's see.

This is Ze Maria - Ze Maria e Seu Piano de Prata (1958), for Continental, featuring the legendary organ player that introduced Jorge Ben on recordings, among some other relevant accomplishments, such like recording a very old album leading a conjunto featuring well-known Brazilian musicians, such like Dom Um Romao, Neco and Luiz Marino. I believe this album brings this personnel listing, but I found it on a very bad condition with the back cover missing. Anyway, featuring or not Dom Um Romao and Neco, Ze Maria delivers an above the average album in the style and in the time it was recorded with lots of percussion and addictive cuts, such like the sample track. This album is really a treat and the information available is almost inexistent. Tracks include:
