ELECTRIC RAT- Music blog

2012-06-14T17:36:00.002-07:00

For this blissful Thursday, I would like to share an enigmatic track of Bat for Lashes' second album 'Two Suns'. It is obvious to myself why I love this- having grown up on 'shoe gaze' goth music. This song contains many layers in a bittersweet harmony- sadness, joy, and fear are all palpable. Truly hypnotic.

The whole album is a treat for the ears. Enjoy.

Long hiatus...

2012-06-11T20:59:00.000-07:00

Its so good to see my old blogger friends still on the radar as it were. I hope to regularly post entries, but I always feel absurdly depressed when I consider updating. I will try forcing myself to at least update every week with mp3s and soundcloud songs by some underground artists and DJs.

In non-music related news, I will be moving to Sacramento next month! Very excited for the move, and the chance to find a half-decent job. Los Angeles has been cruel to me, job wise. I have a few interviews lined up in the new city.

Have this Ke$ha remix, friends. :)

OH MAN....

2012-02-25T22:20:00.000-08:00

sorry for the delay in postings. I have been quasi-distracted by the new semester and other life problems. I begin my 'comeback' with a humble request:

Please comment and help me earn $ome street cred on blogger again, bros. For every comment, I click and comment. :)

alright then. Lets hope this works.

IM BACK.

LE CASTLE VANIA- AT ESCAPE WONDERLAND!!

2011-10-16T11:39:00.000-07:00

Le Castle Vania is an electronic dance music project created by Atlanta-based DJ Dylan Eiland. Eiland began DJing at warehouse parties and raves in Atlanta at age 16 after playing in some traditional rock bands and unsuccessfully attempting to master the drums. Eiland uses a simple setup, including a laptop computer, a mixer, and two turntables. He writes his songs on his laptop, often while traveling on airplanes, and prefers to play a larger number of his original work compared to his remixes.

stuffing the mushrooms

2011-10-13T19:12:00.000-07:00

alright mother lovers, in lieu of flogging electro music to death in this blog...I am going to show you something a smidgen different; how to make your own stuffed mushrooms.

These mouth watering appetizers are sure to please your friends or family at any shindig you throw, or even just satisfy a craving of your own. The ingredients are simple enough- you should have all of the things needed for preparation. Just buy some decent white mushrooms for this one.

Ingredients:

12 whole fresh mushrooms
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel. Carefully break off stems. Chop stems extremely fine, discarding tough end of stems.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and chopped mushroom stems to the skillet. Fry until any moisture has disappeared, taking care not to burn garlic. Set aside to cool.
When garlic and mushroom mixture is no longer hot, stir in cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, black pepper, onion powder and cayenne pepper. Mixture should be very thick. Using a little spoon, fill each mushroom cap with a generous amount of stuffing. Arrange the mushroom caps on prepared cookie sheet.
Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the mushrooms are piping hot and liquid starts to form under caps.

These go best with a squirt of lemon juice if you have any. Bon appetit!

Today i would like to introduce you to a fairly unknown bass and drum duo; Brookes Brothers. They will be playing at Escape From Wonderland this year!! Hailing from London all the way from the United Kingdom, they enjoy making a higher caliber of drum and bass, not just focused on rhythm but soul as well. Just listen to tracks like 'Snowman' and you will see why they have such a collective of fans.

Paypal donations are still needed if you would like to help me purchase a ticket to the event! My paypal is lycheemilk@gmail.com.

I myself would like to go, but I haven't the funds necessary. If you would like to donate a few bucks towards my ticket to paradise and dance music, my paypal is lycheemilk@gmail.com.

In return, here is some free music!! All this week I will be featuring free downloadable tracks from the event's line up. Here is AN21, an electronic dance artist. He is known for inspirational remixes, with such a fresh take on pop songs. I love his rendition of La Roux and Ellie Goulding. I hope you do too!

Marina and the Diamonds

2011-09-28T12:23:00.000-07:00

Marina and the Diamonds is a one girl band. A singer/ song writer hailing from Wales, she exemplifies beauty and femininity. This is her first ever hit, and very trippy music video. You can tell her talents as a vocalist from her choir- perfected vocal range. Every fluctuation is intended and sounds perfect. Its no exaggeration that I have turned a few of my close friends on to Marina, and they became even more enamored with her than I.

Blitzen Trapper, an underground hit.

2011-09-25T18:38:00.000-07:00

Portland, Oregon based musical ensemble Blitzen Trapper is part country, part electro, part indie and 100% awesome. I personally love this music video as it entails a fable of one man's rage and how he commits murder in coldest of blood. You won't regret watching the video for "Black River Killer". For all its Old Time language and Blitzen Trapper's south western accent, this is an excellent song with great acoustics and rhythm.

Thanks for your continued support guys. If any of you are feeling generous, please pimp my blogspot in your next blog entry! <3 I could use some followers that support and comment, ya dig?

Wavves is a trendy new indie garage band that reeks of amateur awesome. A refreshing jam band indeed.
Warpaint is a local favorite! These girls are fighters, and a true part of the art-rock revival. The band consists of Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, vocals), and Stella Mozgawa (drums). They hail from my town, Los Angeles.

SOULWAX MIXES ARE IN!!!

2011-08-26T16:10:00.000-07:00

Soulwax, headed by David and Stephen Dewaele, are an alternative rock/electronic band from Ghent, Belgium. Next to the Dewaele brothers, Soulwax consists of bassist Stefaan Van Leuven and drummer Steve Slingeneyer. They were first noticed after the release of their album Much Against Everyone's Advice. But after that the Dewaele's started focusing on their other projects such as The Flying Dewaele Brothers and 2manydjs, but also hosting a show on Belgian television, 'Alter8'. Since the release of their Nite Versions album they have been touring around the globe, almost non-stop.
Here's some free downloads of the band, featuring my favorite guys- Crookers. Enjoy!

Here's a band everyone should at least be aware of- Sweden's 'The Knife' made a new side project band a couple years ago by the moniker of Fever Ray. Very entrancing, I love Karin Dreijer Andersson's enigmatic voice. Her Swedish accent is profound and gives depth to each word sung. The whole album tells a tale of paranoia and fear in the bustling dark city. But it can't all be so glum... after all, 'We Share Our Mother's Health', right? ;)

Dubstep tunes for the day, BAR 9 collective!

2011-08-21T13:04:00.000-07:00

Today I'd like to share an excellent dubstep collective, such as Bar 9. Hailing from the United Kingdom, a group of aspiring music artists mix and match the illest of beats. Truly, a force to be reckoned with. My favorite tune from them has to be 'Strung Out'. Aptly named, it owes the violin clip from a song on 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. Very ill.

Emily Haines from Metric is a total babe

2011-08-19T12:22:00.000-07:00

Metric is a female- fronted indie new wave band from Canada(eh?). I am in love with Emily Haines' voice and lyrics. I would label her voice as 'melodic cerebral' and enigmatic. Her lyrics are about feminist issues and the trivialities of being female. Plus the remixes by Masterkraft and The Twelves ain't bad either. Enjoy a more rare acoustic version of Help I'm Alive. :)

It's hard to be so full of upbeat techno when your life seems sorta.... Insignificant. Amirite? Regardless of my inner struggles, have some ear sex thanks to APC. I just love the violin vignettes serenading in and out the entirety. By far, the second best Perfect Circle song, right after 'Weak and Powerless'. <3
